[Bug 369498] Re: 32bits gtk and glib modules not found in ia32-libs

2009-12-08 Thread Paul Collins
Something extra that I think is related to this that I'm running into from
Eclipse of all places.

/usr/lib/gio/modules/libgiogconf.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64

Got that one several times and this is running the 32-bit version of eclipse on
an AMD64 with all packages up to date
Here's the ia32-libs package

r...@kakashi:/usr/lib32/gio/modules# dpkg -s ia32-libs

And here's something interesting that I found while digging

r...@kakashi:/usr/lib32/gio/modules# for i in *
 do
 echo $i
ldd $i | grep not found
 done
libgiogconf.so
libgioremote-volume-monitor.so
libgvfscommon.so.0 = not found
libgvfsdbus.so
libgvfscommon.so.0 = not found

This would at least explain why I'm getting the errors, but I have no
idea where to go looking for a 32-bit version of libgcfscommon.so.0 now.
The only library I'm seeing of that is the 64-bit version. Hopefully I'm
just missing something obvious.

[Bug 433590] Re: Totem no longer plays rmvb or rm files

2009-12-08 Thread Martin Mai
Thanks vito. Seems like this bug is caused by primarily by gst-plugins-
ugly and for totem by totem-pl-parser. I linked the gstreamer issue
here, too. Ubuntu 10.04 currently ships gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly
0.10.13-2, but the issue has been fixed for a later version. When Ubuntu
10.04 ships the new version, this bug should be fixed. It might qualify
for backporting.

[Bug 459639] [NEW] [Karmic] X server starts randomly in failsafe when starting from cold boot

2009-12-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have a laptop that was upgraded to Karmic from Jaunty. When it comes
up from cold boot is ends up with failsafe X more often than not.
Failsafes/normal boots are about 60%/40%. If I restart KDM it always
starts properly. I havent found any indikation from the logs about the
reasons of initial failsafe. It feels like the normal session is not
even tried or if it is it fails before even logging something.

[Bug 459639] Re: [Karmic] X server starts randomly in failsafe when starting from cold boot

2009-12-08 Thread Klaus Steinberger
I found the reason for this behavior. It is a bug in teh upstart script
/etc/init/gdm.conf

Inside the script there is a test which dm should be started. If not gdm
it exits, but it exits with EXIT_STATUS=1, which then triggers the start
of the failsafe session.

I append a patch for gdm.conf which solves the problem. Also kdm.conf
has the very same bug and should be patched too.

Sincerly,
Klaus

[Bug 493788] Re: gnome-panel segfaults on Lucid

2009-12-08 Thread Martin Pitt
Unfortunately we do not have apport retracers for lucid yet, so the
stack trace is useless. I'm afraid I need some further information from
you.

Please try to obtain a backtrace manually following the instructions at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and upload the backtrace
(as an attachment) to the bug report.

Alternatively, let's find a way for me to reproduce the crash. Does it
also happen in a guest session or with a fresh user? If so: do you have
any desktop files in /usr/local/share/applications/? If not: Do you have
any desktop files in ~/.local/share/applications ?

If so (in either case), please attach the .desktop files.

I suspect that one of them has a missing field, or something, which
causes a NULL pointer.

[Bug 491872] Re: [armel] Atomic intrinsics are not implemented correctly

2009-12-08 Thread Dave Martin
Unfortunately, the __sync_synchronize() bug appears still to be present in the
updated GCC.
A call to this intrinsic still disappears in the compiler's output.

The __sync_lock_test_and_set() bug may still be present; however it is
also possible that the __sync_synchronize() bug is masking the fix.

[Bug 303997] Re: problem with big uids in Users and Groups tool

2009-12-08 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
Are people actually watching liboobs development?! ;-)

I've tried using before, but I was getting strange results because when
converting the constant value to signed int, something was going wrong and I
was getting -GMAX_INT32. I've tried again with your solution, and that does not
work either. Though, this one does, despite being pretty ugly:
((guint32) (1 (8 * sizeof (uid_t) - 1)) - 1))

So I guess I'm going to use that one. What was the 1L supposed to fix?

Though, note that recent gcc versions detect pow() using constant (esp.
integers), and replace them with their actual result, so no runtime
overhead is happening ATM, and floating point are not even used.

[Bug 416251] Re: Nautilus does not show Desktop thumbnails

2009-12-08 Thread mac_v
I'v been using the Lucid kernel (2.6.32-6) for nearly a week and I
havent noticed this problem. The problem seems to have reduced a lot
[maybe once in the whole week i might have had the problem , i didnt
expect the new kernel to fix this problem hence i didnt make a note]

Previously i would have to restart nautilus almost 2-3 times a day and
would need to restart system every 2days. [with kernel 32-6 , system has
been running the whole week and i havent restarted my system the whole
week nor did it require a restart]

Could someone else try it with the Lucid kernel too , maybe it might
help ?

experiencing it could send the bug the to the people writing the
software. You can learn more about how to do this for various upstreams
at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME . Thanks in advance!

[Bug 441396] Re: Totem hangs while loading a video with .srt (or .txt in MicroDVD format) sub from nautilus

2009-12-08 Thread Juan Francisco Cantero Hurtado
Voting isn't necessary, this bug has 10 duplicates (with 23 subscribers)
and 49 direct subscribers. I think that is a lot for a little bug. The
manpower issue is a endemic problem to the packaging in Linux.

Sebastien, the problem is not only with divx movies also affects other
formats. The legality or illegality must decide a judge. In Spain a lot
of people use subtitles for tv shows and the autoload of subtitles of
totem is a very useful feature.

If you need numbers of users of divx/xvid/h264 codecs in ubuntu:
Installations of totem: 1162459 ( http://popcon.ubuntu.com/main/by_vote )
Installations of gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg: 907482 (
http://popcon.ubuntu.com/universe/by_inst )

I think that the users expect more of a package supported by canonical.

.srt subtitles for Elephants dream:

Thanks for your work :)

2009-12-08 Thread Ted Rytel
It is reproducible only in the sense that I'm stuck with it. If I delete
the account, exit evolution (and kill the remaining processes alarm
data), then open evolution and re-enter the account using the wizard, it
still does not appear in the tree.

At some point, I'll try opening another account, maybe gmail, and see
how that goes.

Thanks,
Ted Rytel

[Bug 491483] Re: Since failsafe-x was enabled in karmic it starts if gdm is disabled and kdm is used. (low graphics mode error)

2009-12-08 Thread dm
Surprise, with the new GDM package I have a usable notebook again. It
seems, the patch does what it should. Thank you for all the help. But I
think, such a bug should be found before so many users get an unusable
system.

Thanks
DM

[Bug 493973] Re: evolution can't send messages using smtp.gmail.com with default gmail settings

2009-12-08 Thread C de-Avillez
Although we cannot do it -- at least with the current implementation for
every single provider, GMail is ubiquitous enough to be considered for
that (see, e.g., Thunderbird).

Marking Confirmed, WishList. Will move to Triaged when we have an
upstream bug filed.

[Bug 493822] Re: If a delete a file in a rar, zip, ... and move the mouse to the exit button (X) I drag the same file to the GUI. This only happen when i do the oeration fast.

2009-12-08 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!
