[Bug 497250] Re: large distribution lists mess up html formatted e-mails

2009-12-17 Thread Dave Walker
marionspd:

I am so sorry but I still cannot reproduce the problem. Here are the
steps I am taking so maybe you can see where I am going wrong:

1 - Open Evolution
2a - Click FILE from the toolbar at the top -
2b - Click IMPORT from the pulldown
2c - FORWARD from the wizard
2d - IMPORT SINGLE FILE from the list of options
2e - Browse to the good email saved on your desk
2f - SELECT THE FILE
2g - Click SELECT to close the file browse window
2h - Click FORWARD from the wizard
2i - Click SELECT A FOLDER then choose DRAFTS from the list of options
2j - Click FORWARD from the wizard
2k - Click IMPORT to close the wizard dialog
3 - Go to the drafts folder, the good email should be there.
4 - Right click on the imported Good Email and choose EDIT AS A NEW MESSAGE
5 - Click TO - Select a distribution list called TEST with the following
addresses. When creating the list I unchecked the box that says Hide
Addresses. Click ADD to the TO FIELD then CLOSE to return to the email.

dogatemycompu...@gmail.com,
dogatemycompu...@yahoo.com,
dogatemycompu...@aim.com
cc Andrew McKnight alliancek...@southslope.net,
Eli Wynes elimwy...@hotmail.com

6 - Select HTML from the pulldown in the toolbar causing the email to be
reformatted. The spreadsheet should appear in the email.
7 - The email should now be addressed to a contact list called TEST. The CC
field should contain 2 contacts (Andrew McKnight alliancek...@southslope.net,
Eli Wynes elimwy...@hotmail.com). The Subject field should be Tournament
Commitments ACT Test Dates. The email should be formatted HTML from the
pulldown in the toolbar. The email should look good and be completely legible
including the spreadsheet.
7 - Click SEND
8 - Check gmail/yahoo mail and the email appears to be formatted properly.

What in this process can we do differently that will reproduce the bug?

[Bug 440465] Re: removing pulseaudio breaks sound control

2009-12-17 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Not sure about what entity you are speaking about there but upstream and
ubuntu would probably happy to review any constructive changeset, and no
undoing the work done in the recent cycles to go back to an old, buggy
and unmaintained codebase is not a solution we would be wanting to use
there, calling things crap doesn't help to make your point either

closing the bug again since that's not a bug but a design decision, you
are welcome to work fixing the issue though and submitting changes to
allow flexibility as long as they don't lead to breaking the current
user experience or going back to unmaintained codebases

2009-12-17 Thread Sebastien Bacher
you should also not use the number of comments as a metric there, 36
comments is a pretty low count compared to some other bugs and that just
shows that the current audio stack has still issues, which is something
we know about, not that going back to old technologies rather than
fixing what we have now and going forward is the way to solve those

[Bug 393854] Re: Update PAM policy to allow password-less logins set up via users-admin

2009-12-17 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
The rationale behind this feature vs. the standard nullok_secure way is
that *you actually have a password*. This means users can be admins,
type their password to use sudo, PolicyKit or lock their screen, but
they are not asked to type it on login. They can additionally connect
over local SSH for example.

There are many use cases for this - if you consider how people are used
to configure their Windows home computers for example: as long as you're
not the only user on the box (- GDM autoconnect), you are forced to
type your password. So if you want to avoid that without losing all
security, and that you want to be an admin (quite common), you need this
feature.

users-admin has never allowed people to use an empty password because of
security considerations. I've already closed several feature requests
like that. Are you suggesting we should make it easy to use empty
passwords (Use no password' button)? I'd find it quite bad, but OTOH
we need an easy way for people to skip this step if they don't want to
type a password.

The current situation can be counter-productive: friends of mine are
using silly passwords such as because they don't care. If we
weren't forcing them to type passwords on login, I would happily force
users to choose a strong password in users-admin, which would improve
security.

So all in all, I see more use cases for this method than for the
traditional nullok_secure option. Dropping the latter wouldn't hurt IMHO
if we can provide a better approach.

[Bug 490781] Re: Alt-F2 run application - doesn't run unique option by default

2009-12-17 Thread Leandro

Invalid According to you, Sebastian, the bug is that the gcalctool
application appears as
an option one when one types calculator in the input field.

Come on, obviously it must appear, obviously it will be the only option, and it
is obvious that
it must be launched when one presses enter.

Now, pressing enter in this situation returns Could not open location
'file:///home/user/calculator'
Now that's good usability

I was really hopping this was getting to the 100 paper cuts.

subtitle, it's perfectly fine.

So, if I open
with subtitle : Fine
without subtitle : Fine
with subtitle - without subtitle : *** Error ***
with subtitle - with subtitle : Fine
without subtitle - with subtitle : Fine
without subtitle - without subtitle : Fine
without subtitle - with subtitle - without subtitle : *** Error ***

It means once I open the one with the subtitle then I can't open the one
without the subtitle unless I close the totem then open it again.

I think it's a different bug, isn't it?

[Bug 493961] Re: some apps in System Administration do not work with sudo

2009-12-17 Thread latimerio
The System - Administration menu is in many aspects not usable!!

E. g. even after changing the Language Support command to gksudo
/usr/bin/gnome-language-selector in alacarte, I can not install any language
by using the menu.
This is because after selecting a language for installation a get asked for the
root password.
In contrast to that there is no problem if I run gksudo
/usr/bin/gnome-language-selector from a terminal.

Guys, any updates about when this problem is getting solved? If the

Re: [Bug 477438] Re: gdm login fonts are unreadable, display rectangles not chars

2009-12-17 Thread Eduard Drenth
I assume you refer to trying these commands blindly:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure libcairo2 libpango1.0-common
sudo fc-cache -fs
sudo update-pangox-aliases

If you first do Ctrl-Alt-F1 you will get an asci console, which you can
probably read. Try the commands from there, you should be prompted for a
password. You may have missed this prompt during your 'blind' attempt.

Success,

Eduard

[Bug 460030] [NEW] Palimpsest displays out-of-range SMART values

2009-12-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: gnome-disk-utility

Palimpsest (2.28.0 on amd64) says that the Read error rate of my main
disk is OK and has value 230874873 (raw 0xf9dec20d). The
normalized value is 119, the worst value is 100 and the threshold
value is 6.

Obviously there is something strange in these values. Maybe SMART is
reporting them in the wrong way, anyway Palimpsest should do some
sanity-check before reporting them.

[Bug 490781] Re: Alt-F2 run application - doesn't run unique option by default

2009-12-17 Thread Leandro

I will tell that to my grandma then.

Just for curiosity, you actually think the present behavior should be
kept as is?

(I'm sorry, but it actually irritates me that kind of technical answer, which I
already knew,
for such an obvious usability issue. If this is not a bug, at least it should
put in wishlist.
Otherwise, if you really don't see any problem in the way it is, then our
concept of
usability, paper cuts or polish is very different).

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: amd64
Date: Sun Oct 25 23:29:49 2009
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10
ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/evolution

WORKAROUND:

asac's patch bypasses the consequence (infinite loop, with high CPU usage

[Bug 470157] Re: Text does not display in Evince or other pdf viewers

2009-12-17 Thread Per Ångström
I can confirm this on Lucid Lynx Alpha 1+. This happens to me with the
financial statements from my savings company, and it has been quite
annoying not to able to read them without booting into Windows. This bug
led me to discover xpdf, which apparently is able to cope with missing
fonts, whereas evince silently fails (only if I start evince from the
command line can I see all the error messages).

This is quite a serious bug; currently the importance is Low, which is
way too low. How can I trust that evince is not silently ignoring some
text in my documents? At the very least, evince should warn the user
that the some text in the document is not being displayed, but I don't
think it's unreasonable to use some other font instead (like xpdf
apparently does).

The same goes for okular and gimp (the similarity of the console error
output indicates that they share the same pdf reading component).

[Bug 497518] Re: gnome-power-manager does not see my battery in 9.10 Karmic Koala

2009-12-17 Thread Geoff
Thanks - I've uploaded the apport data. I mentioned /proc/acpi mainly to
show that something on my system recognized the battery - I suspected
that something in the architecture had changed about how gnome-power-
manager sees batteries and perhaps other things.

I'm not sure if this should be a separate issue or whether it might be
from the same root cause, but another symptom I see is that I can no
longer suspend the laptop using the suspend button (technically, it's
Fn +F4 to suspend), but I am able to suspend by using the menu
choice from the indicator-applet-session. It seems plausible that this
is essentially some configuration issue, but I'm not familiar enough
with what's going on to know what to tinker with to try to change.

The problems started after I rebooted for the first time after upgrading
to 9.10 last week.

Re: [Bug 410407] Re: Flash does not work correctly [READ DESCRIPTION]

2009-12-17 Thread Scott Armitage
Configurations in general should be left along by updates; for all the
installer knows, the user may need GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=1 for something else,
and if the installer breaks it, it could be very difficult for the user to
track down. Furthermore, there could be many different workarounds/hacks all
used in various combinations; it would be very difficult to create a script
to properly handle all of these situations without introducing more bugs.
Instead, the user should be responsible for reversing any manual

Please, when this bug is fixed, also provide a way to revert the user

For example, when fixing the bug, a pop-up window may say: If you
disabled compiz because of the flash bug, you can now safely re-enable
it. Or, for workaround 3, the package installer may silently modify the
nspluginwrapper configuration file to remove the export
 GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=1 line.

[Bug 491360] Re: send to email doesnt open new mail

2009-12-17 Thread vytis
Quick fix:
1. go to system - settings - prefferred programs
2. chose custom in mail program list
3. you will see :
/usr/lib/thunderbird/thunderbird %s
4. change it to
/usr/lib/thunderbird/thunderbird %s
5. close

that's all..

[Bug 496364] [NEW] Workspace switcher settings not applied to correct desktop when using dual head

2009-12-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When changing the settings of the workspace switcher (number of
desktops) on one head, the settings actually take effect on the other
screen. There is no way to change the number of Virtual desktops on the
first head.

I am using Ubuntu 9.10 with the ATI proprietary driver, and compiz.

xorg-driver-fglrx version 2.8.66
compiz version 1:0.8.4
