[Bug 214370] Re: Logout/Shutdown Sound Not Working

2009-12-20 Thread Andrew
Everyone, unless you have a comment relevent to the fixing of the
problem as described below, please stop commenting so that the bug
report remains clear. If you are simply saying it affects you, please
use the 'This bug affects 18 people. Does this bug affect you?' link at
the top.

Redirecting focus to the actual bug filed here:

There is a file called 'libcanberra-logout-sound.sh' in
/usr/share/gnome/shutdown that is meant to be run on shutdown. The
reason the file is not played is that the piece of code that is meant to
be in gnome-session to run all files in the /usr/share/gnome/shutdown
directory is not there (it was forgot).

Upstream is a patch someone made to fix it and the nautilus developers
suggested some changes to the patch. This bug needs someone to modify
the patch as required.

Subject: [Bug 498539] Re: package gnome-screensaver 2.28.0-0ubuntu3 failed to
install/upgrade: subprocess dpkg-deb --control returned error exit status 2

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error caused by a corrupted
archive. Please execute the following commands, as it will clear your
package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue. If so please set the bug's status to Invalid. Thanks in advance!

[Bug 214370] Re: Logout/Shutdown Sound Not Working

2009-12-20 Thread David Clayton
This works on my Ubuntu 9.04 system (tested with multiple user
accounts).

Edit the following file:

/etc/gdm/PostSession/Default

And add this in before the exit 0:

/usr/share/gnome/shutdown/libcanberra-logout-sound.sh

Now your logout of a Gnome session should play whatever logout sound you
have specified (do I get a lollipop for this?).

[Bug 189110] Re: nautilus erroneous error message opening Samba share - can't display Samba drive

2009-12-20 Thread steelsteel
I hope i have found the correct bug:

Nautilus 2.28.1 still have the problem, that only a single click is
needed to open a smb-bookmark in the sidebar.

The default-user doesnt know and gets with a doubleclick the error.
(cant mountpoint already registered apperas, while in background the
smb folder is already opened. confusing the unexperienced users, this
is!)

Further on it is not possible to change the bookmark icons in this
sidebar.

My Christmas Wish: Please fix until 10.04 :)!

2009-12-20 Thread Mariuccio
[SOLVED]

Looking better to my log file, I noticed I got the error always related to
Bitstream font.
I removed Vera*.ttf file from my /usr/share/fonts/windows directory and I ran
the commands suggested by Eduard

sudo dpkg-reconfigure libcairo2 libpango1.0-common
sudo fc-cache -fs
sudo update-pangox-aliases

Restart GDM and now it works!! (at least for me)

[Bug 498745] [NEW] XML code is recognized as HTML, ?xml version=1.0 encoding=utf-8? not highlighted.

2009-12-20 Thread Kamil

and it is recognized as HTML, '?xml version=1.0 encoding=utf-8
standalone=no?' is not highlighted, just like '?xml-stylesheet
type=...?' when I add this too. This is a bug because, the code is
not HTML, but XHTML, so of course XML too. This is annoying, because of
not highlighting '?xml version=1.0 encoding=utf-8
standalone=no?' and '?xml-stylesheet type=...?'.

[Bug 444881] Re: [Karmic] Battery monitor applet doesn't show battery remaining time

2009-12-20 Thread smanaz
Quite same problem on my HP Pavillion DV3550ev.
The problem comes with ubuntu 9.10 and not with 9.04.
If i disconnect the power cable from the computer the battery icon works good,
but if i restart the computer or i switch on without the power cable the icon
give to me:the battery is fully charged, but if i clic on the battery it
gives to me perhaps 23% and no idication regarding the discharge time.
Is the same for the video backlight that witout the power cable during reboot
starts the computer with 100% of luminosity but if i connect the power cable
and then disconnect it works good chainging the backlights from 100% to 60%.
So it seems that the gnome power manager doesn't start alone during a reboot
(with battery) but only if you disconnect the power cable.
Best regards.

[Bug 496253] Re: login keyring does not get unlocked at login

2009-12-20 Thread Cris
The problem seems to be related to downgrading gdm to gdm-2.20.

Steps to reproduce:

1. downgrade to gdm-2.20 (e.g.: apt-get install gdm-2.20)
2. remove residual gdm's configuration files (e.g.: dpkg --purge gdm)
3. reinstall gdm-2.20 (e.g.: apt-get --reinstall install gdm-2.20)

Restart and login: the login.keyring does not get anymore unlocked
automatically.

The following steps seem to solve the problem:
1. reinstall gdm (e.g.: apt-get install gdm)
2. downgrade to gdm-2.20 (e.g.: apt-get install gdm-2.20)
3. do not purge the gdm configuration!

[Bug 150373] Re: creating a 7zip gives error

2009-12-20 Thread Allen Bratton
I'm getting the same error in Jaunty that the original poster described
(System error: E_NOTIMPL). I'm using an ext3 filesystem (if that
matters) and I just ran a check, this does not occur for me with p7zip
installed, only when p7zip-full is installed. It only happens when I am
editing a text file that is zipped, save the file in the word processor
and then update the archive when prompted. Hope this helped somehow,
but it seems the error is a little different for everyone based on the
posts here.

[Bug 498795] [NEW] f-spot should include an option to completely remove icon from the tag

2009-12-20 Thread marco.pallotta
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

In f-spot you can remove the icon from a tag but then, if you tag a photo with
that tag, the icon (representing the pthoto) is automatically added.
I think f-spot should include an option to completely remove icon from the tag
(or all icons from all the tags). Moreover it should be useful if you have many
tags as with the icons the tag list becomes too long while with only the tag
labels the output is more compact.

Tested with f-spot 0.4.3.1 and Hardy x86

[Bug 498800] [NEW] f-spot should include an option to export tag icons

2009-12-20 Thread marco.pallotta
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

When you install a new system and then you want to import all your
photos managed with f-spot (and tagged with it with tags stored in the
photos) you can simply import your photos (file - import) with f-spot
and all of them have their previous tags, but what about the tag icons?
They are lost.

I think f-spot should include an option to export tag icons. Maybe the
best thing is to add an export feature that allows you to copy your
photos into a target directory (for example an usb medium) and the icons
into a file so that f-spot can import them.

My tests are with f-spot 0.4.3.1 and Ubuntu Hardy.

[Bug 498687] Re: f-spot stops during import over 62000 pictures

[Bug 454301] Re: warning given about disk health due to smart not being enabled

2009-12-20 Thread Tapani Tarvainen
Ticking off Spin down hard disks when possible someone suggested didn't help.
:-(
I settled on ticking Don't warn me if the disk is failing on, scary though it
sounds.
(Incidentally, I find it annoying that Palimpsest opens window that doesn't
fit in the screen and has to be dragged around to be able to even see
everything.
It'd be nice if programs - especially of this kind, that pop up
semi-automatically,
would keep their windows small enough to fit even small machines or
size them automatically depending on screen size.)

I do have same Problem since installing Lucid over Karmic.
But gvfs-mount smb://machine/share is working here as expected. Also,
Places/connect to server works OK.

All other machines on the network have no problems accessing the

[Bug 214370] Re: Logout/Shutdown Sound Not Working

2009-12-20 Thread Andrew
Woohoo! Thanks David!!

Although this is a workaround, there is no problem with it, it does the
desired behavior (i.e. plays the shutdown/logout sound on logout and
shutdown) and conforms with all the necessary configuration (i.e. if in
Preferences Sound you have sounds disabled, it will not play).

I shall create a debdiff with a patch, in the mean time, will people try
it out and comment if the workaround doesn't work for them (make sure in
Sound Preferences, you have the Ubuntu theme selected and the alert
volume is loud enough).

Exactly, I'm suggesting to clean install. However, I'm not pretty sure of the

[Bug 498839] [NEW] No keyboard indicator applet shown after install with Greek kb

2009-12-20 Thread Thanos Lefteris
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Steps to reproduce:

1) During installation from the Ubuntu 9.10 desktop live cd, select Greek as a
language for installation
2) Select the Greek keyboard layout in appropriate installation step
2) Finish installation and reboot into the newly installed system

What I expected to happen:

 - See a keyboard indicator applet so that I can see what layout is
active and also change language with the mouse.

What actually happened:

 - No keyboard indicator applet shown in the panel. The user has to
figure out how to do it her self. There are two keyboard layouts
configured in the system automatically (Greek and English), but no
intuitive way to switch between them.

[Bug 426185] Re: Gnome-panel fails to load various applets

2009-12-20 Thread Bob Huber
I have a fresh install of Karmic that I have been using since it came
out. I keep losing the weather applet (or parts of it) after reboot or
occasionally during a session. Panel applets in the notification area
(network speaker) occasionally double up (2 of them with 1
functional).A reboot will usually fix everything except the weather
applet.I have looked over all the posts and tried everything I can think
of including removing and replacing the gnome-panel and the applet-
addons via the SPM. Very annoying along with the other problems that I
have tackled and repaired. DELL Insipron 531, 3 gig ram , AMD 64 X2
Nvidia Vidio running the 64 bit version of Karmic.I am a new user to
Linux and love the flexibility the Ubuntu desktop but am very
frustrated with the instability of the system.

[Bug 498839] Re: No keyboard indicator applet shown after install with Greek kb

2009-12-20 Thread Thanos Lefteris
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gnome-panel

  Steps to reproduce:

  1) During installation from the Ubuntu 9.10 desktop live cd, select Greek as
a language for installation
  2) Select the Greek keyboard layout in appropriate installation step
  2) Finish installation and reboot into the newly installed system

  What I expected to happen:

   - See a keyboard indicator applet so that I can see what layout is
active and also change language with the mouse.

  What actually happened:

   - No keyboard indicator applet shown in the panel. The user has to
- figure out how to do it her self. There are two keyboard layouts
- configured in the system automatically (Greek and English), but no
- intuitive way to switch between them.
+ figure out how to do it herself. No Greek layout has also been added,
+ but I have reported it as a separate bug

[Bug 492810] Re: Nautilus uses 100% cpu after downloading torrent

2009-12-20 Thread Azraele
I don't wanna be rude but it seems that nobody gives a shxt!! It's obvious that
free software isn't well developed as the other ones but at least one should
have good support to fix the unbelievable number of bugs that it has attached..
Plus it seems to be a pretty serious bug since with the nautilus not working,
it's pretty hard to use the OS..

I'm quite disappointed.
