[Bug 410723] Re: not expunge evolution mail inbox or junk mail folders

2009-12-22 Thread Alexey Nedilko
Here is also a workaround in Evolution FAQ:
http://www.go-evolution.org/FAQ#Why_do_I_get_an_error_.22Summary_and_folder_mismatch.2C_even_after_a_sync.22.3F

Why do I get an error Summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync?

If you get an error pop up like: Error while Expunging folder. Error
storing `~/.evolution/mail/local/Inbox (mbox)': Summary and folder
mismatch, even after a sync.. Try the following operations:

* Stop evolution completely with the command evolution --force-shutdown
* Remove the corresponding files with the file ending .ev-summary and
.ibex.index, in this example you should remove the file
~/.evolution/mail/local/Inbox.ev-summary and
~/.evolution/mail/local/Inbox.ibex.index.
* Restart evolution, it will be slow to come up because it recreates the
indexes.

For your interest, this is filed as
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=550414.

As a side effect of removing the summary, you will lose locally stored
mail labels.

[Bug 486154] Re: System beep broken in Karmic despite heroic efforts to fix it

2009-12-22 Thread Grondr
Oy.

I know this is probably going to be an unpopular discovery, but I am no
longer sure this is necessarily a metacity bug. The problem is, then,
whose bug -is- it?

I just spent a couple hours hacking around in the metacity source code
doing things like commenting out XkbSelectEvents and
XkbChangeEnabledControls calls in core/bell.c's meta_bell_init, and
finally going so far as to #undef HAVE_XKB in that file and display.c.
I could pretty easily cause backspace on an empty line to emit -nothing-
(on either the motherboard speaker or line-out), but I couldn't get the
functionality I wanted (namely, the old functionality of X bell on
motherboard speaker). [Obviously you have to killall metacity restart
it and/or log out in to see changes, etc.]

Finally it occurred to me to just rename /usr/bin/metacity to a random
name, log out, and then log in again. I got an endless spinny cursor
because something was trying but failing to start the metacity process,
but could still start a terminal window and still got silence on empty-
line backspace. [The beep command works as always, but that's a
completely different mechanism, etc.] I also tried this from a cold-
boot, just in case; same behavior.

So while it looks like metacity can correctly snarf up X events so you
can get -some- sort of bell, something other than metacity is grabbing
and/or killing them, since even if metacity isn't running, there's no
bell of any sort on an empty line (and presumably xkbbell would also be
silent; i didn't test it). Yet this works without X and in an xterm
started via xinit (see my giant table), so what's stealing these events?
Some other part of gnome?

Aargh. But at this point, I don't think I can file a bug against
metacity for this, except to cause the metacity developers to maybe
point their fingers at the real culprit...

P.S. It -is- disturbing that meta_bell_set_audible is a complete no-op
(no lines of code), and the comment in bell.h that meta_bell_shutdown is
never called also gives me pause---I wonder if -that- is why I was
getting different results based on whether xkbbell had -ever- run, since
boot (see my giant table again), which smelled of something failing to
clean up its state. But the fact that this seems broken even if
metacity had never run makes me think it's not metacity's fault (and I
suspect the xkbbell stuff is its own state-restoration issue.)

[Bug 499418] [NEW] evolution meeting invitation has duplicate keyboard shortcuts

2009-12-22 Thread James
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Steps to reproduce:

1) Go to calendar view (Control+3)
2) Right-click and select New Meeting
3) Observe that to the right of the Attendee box are 3 buttons: Add, Remove
and Edit.
4) Further observe that the shortcut for Add is Alt+A (the A of Add
being underlined).
5) Finally, observe that the shortcut for Show Attachment Bar is *also*
Alt+A
(A of Attachment is underlined).

This is a bug since in Jaunty you could bring up the meeting window, hit
Alt+A and start typing a persons email address into the Attendee box. In
Karmic, you end up highlighting the attachment bar.

Version info for my Karmic system:

 dpkg -l|grep evolution|awk '{printf(%-30.30s %s\n,$2,$3); }'

Note: this is a regression in behaviour since the version of evolution

Thank you for reporting this bug. I suspect that the problem you're

[Bug 438494] Re: Brasero reports blank CD's free space incorrectly.

2009-12-22 Thread PlaidRadish
I realize this is already confirmed. I can concur with all of the
reports above. It is happening on the latest kernel update AND it is
reporting the amount of free space that WILL BE left on the CD after the
burn.

But... I don't think that's very helpful. If Brasero reported both the
total free space, AND how much free space would be left over, that would
save us all a bit of quick head math, but the way it is right now is not
helpful... how do we request to have this changed?

[Bug 485923] Re: Probable memory leak in gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-volume-control-applet

2009-12-22 Thread Alistair Buxton
After compiling a debug version of gnome-volume-control-applet and
running in valgrind, I have identified the cause of the leak in that
program. But I am not sure if it is related to the gsd bug.

Basically what is happening is that every time an application creates a
pulseaudio sink, gvca adds it into a hash table. But when the
application frees the audio sink, gvca does not remove it from the hash
table. Normally this would not leak anything like 300mb in a day, but
another unrelated bug in either pulseaudio or wine is causing wine
applications to open and close the audio sink several times per second.
This causes the hash table to grow at a very high rate. I suspect gsd is
using a similar amount of memory because it is mirroring the gvc
settings.

@w1zard: Are you using wine? If so which version? And are you using
spotify?

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 497175] Re: This program do not read every pdf files. I can send an exemple. Give me an adress.

2009-12-22 Thread Dennis Sheil
The code that caused this problem has been found. It was poppler commit
512b2c654fd80c83b82e7adc828a478a18de17ab on July 26, 2009. You have
poppler 0.12.0 as a dependency, and this commit was made prior to that
release.

I posted a patch against the latest poppler source on freedesktop. Now
that the cause is known, any version of poppler after the bad commit
should be easy to patch. If my patch is committed to poppler,
eventually there will be another poppler patch, where what the
512b...17ab was trying to do will be put in - correctly. Until then,
people can revert to the old way if they want.
