2009-12-26 Thread kamome
How is this not a bug if evolution fails to handle your mail correctly. Not
being able to delete mail from a folder (expunge) renders evolution almost
useless. I'm seeing this same problem:
I cannot delete a folder because there are mails in that folder that cannot be
deleted, I get the original error message when trying to delete those mails (or
emty trash).
There may be a workaround given in this thread:

Doing as described in the thread that I linked to earlier, it seems I was able
to fix this issue:
# evolution --force-shutdown
# cp -a ~/.evolution /media/evo.sav
# cd ~/.evolution/mail/local
# find . -name *.cmeta -exec rm -f {} \;
# find . -name *.ibex.index.data -exec rm -f {} \;
# find . -name *.ibex.index -exec rm -f {} \;
Manually deleted the offending folder.
# evolution --component=mail --offline
(got one warning about the evolution not being able to open the deleted folder)
More mails appeared in trash that I was not able to select, delete, empty
Clicked through all folders to recreate the metadata.
Closed evolution.
# evolution --component=mail --online
Checked for new mails - everything seems to work fine.

[Bug 500528] [NEW] Wobbly windows and 2 desktops always set after enabling extra effects again

2009-12-26 Thread juzzlin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

What happened:

I run into this after my compiz crashed. After enabling extra effects
again using gnome-appearance-properties it seems that previous settings
are not fully obeyed. Number of virtual desktops are reduced to two and
at least wobbly windows is enabled regardless of the previous settings.
Other settings that I have made seemed to be correct.

What was expected:

Effects enabled again with the previous settings and nothing more.

[Bug 36832] Re: User switching is untransparent

2009-12-26 Thread Jani Uusitalo
If I'm reading the initial report correctly, it has the underlying
presumption that there are only two desktop users. In a system with user
Z in addition to users X and Y, I wouldn't expect to returned to user
Y's (locked) desktop on X's log-out, but to a gdm login so that *either*
of the other users Y and Z can log in from there.

In fact I agree on the point of the report that user switching is
untransparent, but do so because of the opposite reason: in a three-user
system, when all three are logged in, being presented with the locked
screen of another user when logging one out is what makes the switch
untransparent. What I'd expect to see is the gdm login. That is because
usually there's no way for the system to know which of the remaining
users is about to return to his/her desktop.

2009-12-26 Thread Joachim Durchholz
I got to fix the problem with a similar process as kamome described, but
(a) the process was a pain in the posterior because massive amounts of
deleted mails reappeared in their original folders which then had to be
hand-deleted, and (b) the problem reappeared just a day or two later.

At that point, I gave up and returned to Thunderbird.

[Bug 500533] [NEW] gnome-screenshot exits with BadWindow (X Windows Error)

2009-12-26 Thread skrisman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-utils

gnome-screenshot exits cleanly with a return code of 01. It prints a
message before it ends however:

The program 'gnome-screenshot' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)'.
  (Details: serial 4799 error_code 3 request_code 15 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

To reproduce this bug:
1. $ gnome-screenshot --interactive
2. Click the Grab the current window radio button option
3. Click the Take Screenshot Button.

What should happen:
A window should pop up asking you where you want to save the file.

What happens instead:

[Bug 23810] Re: Size of preference dialog too big

2009-12-26 Thread dasy2k1
This bug is present in 9.10 UNR evolution Evolution 2.28.1

the window cannot be dragged bigger than the screen size and there is no
way of scrolling.

really all that needs fixing in this version is a vertical scroll bar to
be added to the mail preferences window to allow getting to all the
settings on a small screen.

for example i cant set the deletion options at the moment, and i need to
as evolution is currently duplicating everything in my deleted items (i
think evolution is mooving the mail to there, then my email server is
also putting it there)

[Bug 257190] Re: Setting status to 'Hidden' changes status to 'Busy' instead

2009-12-26 Thread deuxcroix
Confirmed in fresh install of Karmic Koala with Empathy 2.28.1.
Status appears as Hidden in status drop-down list, but the account will be
seen as Busy in the contacts list. I added myself in my list for testing
purposes, and I appear to be Busy instead of offline.
Steps to reproduce the bug are described upwards, they are the same, I am just
adding another confirmation. It should be a class-C bug, but with A priority,
because is one of the most used features an average user wants to work fine. I
haven't figured yet if this is a system-wide bug with other implications at
other software levels, or it is strictly about Empathy.
Hope it will be reopened if it's closed, otherwise users will switch to other
IM clients such Pidgin a.o., and Empathy might lose the popularity it won with
its embed in 9.10.

[Bug 500551] [NEW] Fails to respond to Volume +/- keys within 100 msec HIG requirement

2009-12-26 Thread Paul Sladen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

Volume key are included on many (particularly) laptop devices. When the
user presses, the system should respond by raising or lowing the volume
until an upper, or lower bound is reached. The connection between the
action and result should be near instantaneous and the GNOME HIG sets a
requirement of not more than 100 milliseconds delay.

Frequently, especially under load, this target is missed (delays as high
as 2-3 seconds!); as though g-s-d is waiting for a (rate-limited)
notification to have been displayed before processing the next volume
key-press in the queue---volume key presses frequently come in busts of
5-10 keypresses at a time.

Ideally all key presses should be handled immediately; handling volume
changes within the HIG requirements is especially important, because of
it is needed to prevent hearing damage (on headphones) or embarrassment
(Ubuntu used in a quiet university lecture room, or silent library).

[Bug 500570] [NEW] Appearance Visual Effects settings lost across reboots

2009-12-26 Thread Walter_Wittel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

Just started noticing this recently. After a reboot Visual Effects are
always reset to None and have to be reset manually.

Could be related to / regression of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/+source/gnome-
session/+bug/430981 since this is a slightly newer gnome-session than
the one that should have fixed this.

I haven't tried the workaround in that bug in case anyone needs more
info to figure this out. Thanks.

[Bug 440828] Re: ignore play command after queue finished

2009-12-26 Thread Ilya Barygin
SRU justification.

This is a minor but annoying bug that already collected a couple of duplicates.
It was fixed in upstream version 0.12.6 and thus in Lucid. The patch posted
here is taken from upstream
(http://git.gnome.org/browse/rhythmbox/commit/?id=d655375d6321ce91ba51cf0a5fe217333b62ad6b).

TEST CASE:
1. Open rhythmbox.
2. Select an album, start the last track.
3. Use the search-position-bar to go near the end of the music file.
4. Wait until the playback finishes.
5. Press Play-Button (in program or notification-icon) OR double click on
another music file or another album OR select another album or music file and
press the button
6. The play button will push in, the album art will load and the song will get
the Playing icon next to it, but it won't be playing.

It's just a one-line change! And this patch was used in Debian
(version 0.12.5-2). It survives upstream until now.

[Bug 500604] [NEW] Keyboard layout resets on startup, have to change keyboard layout each boot

2009-12-26 Thread enginerd22
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

Not sure the package, perhaps kbd-chooser. Using version 8.04, 1Ghz
machine. I have 2 keyboard layouts programmed in, US standard and US
Dvorak. Keyboard shortcuts are defined as well (both Alts, and Alt-
Shift). When the machine starts up, the layout is US Standard (as it
should be, this is the default). However, the keyboard shortcuts to
switch don't work. I have to go into keyboard preferences, uncheck and
recheck the shortcuts for switching, and then I can change the layout.
I enabled the keyboard chooser on the panel, and on startup, even when
the chooser claims to be reading as Dvorak, the layout responds as
qwerty.

[Bug 439448] Re: notification area shows wrong icons. erratic behaviour

2009-12-26 Thread pltxtra
I'm having the same problem. But I only noticed it for the last few
upstarts, did never experience it frequently a month ago. I updated a
few packages a couple of days ago, after which I started to notice this
issue.

I have been running 9.10 (upgraded from 9.04) since it's public release.
(Dell Latitude D630)

Restarting gnome-panel is a working workaround for me too.

2009-12-26 Thread scrawl
A lot of people seem to have this bug, see

http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/post/2254987/

But I don't think it has to do with Rhythmbox, if you google the error
message you get some other results too. To me it seems like a rare
PyGTK/PyGObject Crash under the weirdest conditions :/

Can a PyGTK Developer please look into this?

[Bug 487844] Re: Not possible to import gst after installing package Glade

2009-12-26 Thread Jeffrey Barish
My workaround is to have two VMs with Karmic Koala, one with Glade in
which GStreamer doesn't work and one with GStreamer in which Glade is
not installed. I do my development in the first and execution in the
second. I have not found a way for the two to coexist.

[Bug 393854] Re: Update PAM policy to allow password-less logins set up via users-admin

2009-12-26 Thread lumbricus
Using Ubuntu 9.10 I just added manually the new line from the patch to
/etc/pam.d/gdm:

auth sufficient pam_succeed_if.so user ingroup nopasswdlogin

And afterwards I created the usergroup:

sudo addgroup --system nopasswdlogin

Then the option in Users and groups wasn't greyed out anymore and
everything worked as expected!

Thanks a lot for the patch, I hope it will make it into 10.4!

I am using Evolution 2.28.1 and the bug is there, please let me know
what additional information you need. This address book is a imported
address book from outlook. What I was trying to do is to create a view
that I could print with only the info I require, like removing gender,
initials, priority private, sensitivity, family name, given name, etc,
Thought that view would do it for me like outlook.

[Bug 475426] Re: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed

2009-12-26 Thread stlubuntu

I have this same issue in 64-bit Karmic, but following the error is:

Segmentation Fault

and the application then shuts down (Rhythmbox in this case) and is
therefore unusable. This does not seem to happen in VLC, nor Firefox,
nor Thunderbird.

Would someone please either post instructions on how to apply the
patch/fix to Karmic or backport the fix to Karmic.

This is more than just an annoying error message. It is clearly causing
apps to crash.

Please. Please. Since it will be fixed in lucid, would it be too much
to ask for the patch to Karmic?

Thanks.

P.S. The Good luck with that comment from the developer is clearly
not constructive.

[Bug 500672] [NEW] [lucid] setting keyboard shortcut for switching between windows of an application does not work with compiz

2009-12-26 Thread Asif Youssuff
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

Running Ubuntu Lucid with Gnome and compiz.

I would like to set a keyboard shortcut for switching between windows of
an application.

There are two options present in the gnome keyboard properties
application for this:

Move between windows of an application, using a popup window and Move
between windows of an application immediately.

Setting either of these settings while using compiz ends up doing
nothing.
