[Bug 502552] Re: Totem crashes as soon as it opens when DVD is inserted

2010-01-05 Thread f3a97
Thanks Dave,

I'll have a try with this package.

Is that correct that it is not installed by the Ubuntu restricted extras
package?

If so this is wrong IMHO, a simple user will not be able to add a new
repository and download the libdvdcss2 package.

Thanks in advance!

[Bug 503137] [NEW] Mute check box is at wrong end of volume slider in Sound Preferences

2010-01-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I friend of mine rang me today to ask why their microphone didn't work
in Karmic. I asked them to check that the input volume and I got them
to turn it up and the microphone now works.

They did not do this for themselves because the mute check box is at the
right hand (loud) end of the slider. They had assumed (wrongly) that
this meant it was the quiet end.

Furthermore, I've noticed that when you slide the slider all the way to
the LEFT, the Mute checkbox automatically ticks, at the RIGHT hand end.
This seems contradictory.

As sound is an area in which Linux is perceived to perform poorly, I
vote that this small issue is cleaned up.

Kind regards,
Jon

[Bug 502838] Re: gdm starts too early, races with KMS, X.org/VTs fail

2010-01-05 Thread Martin Pitt
So I watched it more closely now, and I think you are right: the KMS
race might well be a red herring. Sometimes I do see the big text
console appear with the 25 ureadahead-other terminated with status 4
messages before gdm/X start up, so KMS was ready at that time. I suppose
the broken text terminals (frequency not supported) are due to the
vesa driver then?

When such a failure occurs, I don't have a /var/log/Xorg.0.log, just a
(rather uninteresting) Xorg.failsafe.log with VESA stuff. dmesg has no
errors either and just shows that DRM is up and the screen modes are set
properly.

/var/log/gdm/:0.log shows that KMS/DRM indeed worked:

[3.243116] (II) intel(0): Output DVI1 using initial mode 1280x1024
[3.292017] (II) intel(0): [DRI2] Setup complete
[3.292039] (**) intel(0): Kernel mode setting active, disabling FBC.

There is no error message in the end, just

[ 120.572430] (II) Macintosh mouse button emulation: Close
 ddxSigGiveUp: Closing log

Given the timestamps that's a normal shutdown; I played a bit with the
failsafe options, so two minutes sounds realistic. What I wonder about
is why the server with the intel driver has been up for so long, because
what I saw and used was definitively the VESA driver.

Nothing else interesting in :0-{slave,greeter}.log unfortunately. I'll
try an strace and some more debugging.

[Bug 502775] Re: Upgrade vte to 0.23.2

2010-01-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package vte - 1:0.23.2-0ubuntu1

---
vte (1:0.23.2-0ubuntu1) lucid; urgency=low

  * New upstream version (LP: #502775):
- Fix overflow with unlimited scrollback lines
- Require glib = 2.22.0
- Deprecate vte_terminal_get_padding
- Add VteTerminal::inner-border style property
- vteapp: Add --cursor-shape option
- Rework mouse selection to be more robust. In particular, PRIMARY
selection
now only changes when mouse button is released, not upon every motion when
  selecting
- Interpret and document negative number of scrollback lines as infinite
- We now chain unhandled motion-notify events up such that the parent widget
  can give them a shot
- Various crash and bug fixes
  * debian/control: bump libglib2.0-dev build-dep to =2.22
  * debian/patches:
- 10_fix_pyenv.patch: dropped fixed in this version
- 60_termcap-home-end.patch, 99_autoreconf.patch: refreshed

Re: [Bug 501457] Re: Brasero wont recognise common audio files also problem with cover text writer

2010-01-05 Thread elcoleman
Thaks for you letter Pedro,
1. Opened Brasero with a empty disc in the burner ready to burn a music
album from the filesystem.
2. Clicked on the Album folder and get Message that this folder could
not be opened and is not suitable for audio or video media. The folder
actually contains 11 m4a files. Previously ,when I had Ubuntu 9.04,this
did not happen Brasero just opened the folder. Now with Ubuntu 9.10 it
doesnt. I can bypass this by drag and drop from my file browser.
3. Brasero now proceeds to act normally and burns the CD
4. I decide to make a cover for my CD Case so I click on 'Make Cover'
and here again Brasero does not act as it used to .
5. Firstly The the text that usually would automatically appear on my
Cover does not appear although I discovered that if I click on the
window title bar it appearsuntil I enter some more text then it all
disappears again. So to check what I have written I must click on the
window title bar again.
6.Previously (Ubuntu 9.04) the Titles of the Songs would appear on the
Back cover automatically . Now they apear but every song is called
'Unknown Song'.
So I enter them in one by one. This process is made more difficult by
the fact that the text dissappears off the screen every time I add text.

I'm not complaining, just trying to give you more info.

[Bug 502838] Re: gdm starts too early, X.org/VTs fail

2010-01-05 Thread lokað
I seem to have the same issue.
But I have the VT for a longer time, some messages about readahead and /home
being clean, then gibberish.
But I even do net get readable output on my attached 2nd Monitor - only
gibberish on my netbooks monitor. The system is not unresponsive as the
contents changes when I press Esc. I did not try anything else for safety
reasons. Ctrl-Alt-Del reboots instantly.

If I boot to maintenance mode and start gdm manually everything works
fine.

This seemed to first happen, when I attached my external monitor for the
first time. Right after the installation of Alpha1 everything was fine.
But now it does not matter if it is connected or not.

Machine: Asus EEE 1000H with Intel GMA.

I have no logs of these incidents, the root fs seems to be mounted ro
this early.

[Bug 503319] [NEW] Can't burn cue images if cdrdao is not installed

2010-01-05 Thread Dom De Felice
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

At least on my laptop, it is not possible to burn cue images if cdrdao
is not installed on the machine. However this is not stated anywhere.
Instead a generic error message is printed and inside the log you can
read that burning cue files only works with the -dao parameter.
Installing cdrdao solves the problem.

Since the current behavior is confusing I think that an optimal solution
would be to pop up a window to install the missing packages when cdrdao
is not installed (like it happens for video codecs in totem.)

Thank you

[Bug 499720] Re: impossible to empty trash after restore Evolution

2010-01-05 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 503332] [NEW] Blank CD dialog opens while disc burning is in progress

2010-01-05 Thread Tomas Cassidy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When copying a CD via Nautilus, after it has finished reading the source
CD, when I insert the blank CD-R to continue with the disc copy process
the Blank CD dialog appears asking me what to do with the blank CD.
While this dialog is shown, Nautilus automatically starts burning to the
blank CD, with the burning dialog hidden behind this Blank CD dialog.
Nautilus should be able to detect that the blank CD is being inserted
for the copy process and not show the new dialog.

Confirmed in Karmic with GNOME nautilus 2.28.1.

Notes added via Properies right-click result in a small note icon
attached to the file icon, but nothing appears in the notes in the side
pane. Adding a note to a file via the side pane results in no new icon
appearing and the same note appears when selecting other files.

better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 424283] Re: totem loses sound when seeking in mkv which has embedded mp3 layer

2010-01-05 Thread Jimmy Merrild Krag
I can confirm the bug exactly as described. However my .mkv files have mpeg 1
layer 2 sound (stereo, 128 kbps, 48000 Hz). Video is H264.
When the file is .mp4 with video H.264 / AVC and sound MPEG-4 AAC audio,
there's no problem.

Also I have noticed that in order to thumbnail the troublesome videos, i
must sometimes delete the folder ~/.thumbnails/fail/.

Can I provide any further info for debugging?

[Bug 483772] Re: recently upgraded to 9.10 and the Gnometris runs ever so slow compared to previous

2010-01-05 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
4. Which theme are you using?
Thanks!

[Bug 503362] Re: drive_c de wine esta lleno

2010-01-05 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug.

2010-01-05 Thread Colin Watson
If this was fixed (please provide a changelog entry when saying that
something has been fixed?), it seems to have regressed, as I saw the
exact same failure on today's upgrade.

Preparing to replace brasero 2.28.2-0ubuntu1 (using
.../brasero_2.29.4-0ubuntu1_i386.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement brasero ...
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/brasero_2.29.4-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
(--unpack):
 trying to overwrite
'/usr/lib/nautilus/extensions-2.0/libnautilus-brasero-extension.so', which is
also in package libbrasero-media0 0:2.28.2-0ubuntu1
dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)

Note that Conflicts or whatever is not normally the correct solution to
this kind of problem. You normally need to use Replaces.
