[Bug 503137] [NEW] Mute check box is at wrong end of volume slider in Sound Preferences
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I friend of mine rang me today to ask why their microphone didn't work in Karmic. I asked them to check that the input volume and I got them to turn it up and the microphone now works. They did not do this for themselves because the mute check box is at the right hand (loud) end of the slider. They had assumed (wrongly) that this meant it was the quiet end. Furthermore, I've noticed that when you slide the slider all the way to the LEFT, the Mute checkbox automatically ticks, at the RIGHT hand end. This seems contradictory. As sound is an area in which Linux is perceived to perform poorly, I vote that this small issue is cleaned up. [Bug 502838] Re: gdm starts too early, races with KMS, X.org/VTs fail
So I watched it more closely now, and I think you are right: the KMS race might well be a red herring. Sometimes I do see the big text console appear with the 25 ureadahead-other terminated with status 4 messages before gdm/X start up, so KMS was ready at that time. I suppose the broken text terminals (frequency not supported) are due to the vesa driver then? When such a failure occurs, I don't have a /var/log/Xorg.0.log, just a (rather uninteresting) Xorg.failsafe.log with VESA stuff. dmesg has no errors either and just shows that DRM is up and the screen modes are set properly. /var/log/gdm/:0.log shows that KMS/DRM indeed worked: [3.243116] (II) intel(0): Output DVI1 using initial mode 1280x1024 [3.292017] (II) intel(0): [DRI2] Setup complete [3.292039] (**) intel(0): Kernel mode setting active, disabling FBC. What I wonder about is why the server with the intel driver has been up for so long, because what I saw and used was definitively the VESA driver. Re: [Bug 501457] Re: Brasero wont recognise common audio files also problem with cover text writer
Thaks for you letter Pedro, 1. Opened Brasero with a empty disc in the burner ready to burn a music album from the filesystem. 2. Clicked on the Album folder and get Message that this folder could not be opened and is not suitable for audio or video media. The folder actually contains 11 m4a files. Previously ,when I had Ubuntu 9.04,this did not happen Brasero just opened the folder. Now with Ubuntu 9.10 it doesnt. I can bypass this by drag and drop from my file browser. 3. Brasero now proceeds to act normally and burns the CD 4. I decide to make a cover for my CD Case so I click on 'Make Cover' and here again Brasero does not act as it used to . 5. Firstly The the text that usually would automatically appear on my Cover does not appear although I discovered that if I click on the window title bar it appearsuntil I enter some more text then it all disappears again. So to check what I have written I must click on the window title bar again. 6.Previously (Ubuntu 9.04) the Titles of the Songs would appear on the Back cover automatically . Now they apear but every song is called 'Unknown Song'. So I enter them in one by one. This process is made more difficult by the fact that the text dissappears off the screen every time I add text. I'm not complaining, just trying to give you more info. [Bug 503319] [NEW] Can't burn cue images if cdrdao is not installed
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: brasero At least on my laptop, it is not possible to burn cue images if cdrdao is not installed on the machine. However this is not stated anywhere. Instead a generic error message is printed and inside the log you can read that burning cue files only works with the -dao parameter. Installing cdrdao solves the problem. Since the current behavior is confusing I think that an optimal solution would be to pop up a window to install the missing packages when cdrdao is not installed (like it happens for video codecs in totem.) Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). 4. Which theme are you using?
