I do not use Xming but Xnest via Terminal-Server-Client since I'm connecting from a Jaunty System. [Bug 507837] [NEW] Desktop Effects prevents gnome-terminal from stretching across dual monitors
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-terminal My problem is whenever I tried to stretch a gnome-terminal window (or any other window for that matter) across both monitors (start on the left screen and stretch across to the right screen), the edge of the terminal window (or other window) would stop at the edge of the monitor screen. I'm running nvidia 8400 graphics on a HP dc7800 workstation. I've played around with the xorg.conf to no avail. It took me a while to figure out, but by eventually disabling Desktop Effects (initially, nothing was selected which I found odd), I can now stretch gnome-terminal as well as other windows across both monitors. Just for the record, I did attempt to move the gnome-terminal window so it took up space on both monitors and then stretch it. All that did was shrink the window back down to a single monitor. [Bug 507855] [NEW] Drafts are not saved anywhere and get lost (IMAP account)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Bug found in: Evolution 2.28.1 Using: Ubuntu 9.10 I set up an IMAP account for my new university's e-mail address. Retrieving mail works fine. But all drafts I write get LOST! When I write a new message -- no matter whether as a reply or as a new message -- I've found no way to save that message as a draft (except as a local copy via Ctrl+S), nor can I send it either: it simply gets dumped! I had a hard time believing that I was experiencing such an awful bug. But I repeated it several times, and it always behaves the same way. Even minimizing the editing window dumps my draft. To sum it up: 1) Save as (or shortcut Ctrl+S) works 2) Save as Draft (or shortcut Ctrl+Shift+S) does not work! 3) Send (or Ctrl+Enter) shuts the window and dumps the message. I can't find it anywhere. 4) Closing the window (or Ctrl+W) does close the window immediately, without prompting a dialog window that asks me whether I want to save my draft - message is lost, too! 5) Minimizing the edit window does the same as closing it - message is lost! Again: my drafts are NOT in the drafts folder, where they should be, nor in any other folder visible to me. I also double checked the configuration for outgoing mail, but it seems to be correct. Thunderbird works without any problem with this IMAP account. I am also aware that the default behavior of Evolution is to minimize to a tray icon. So, my first attempt ever to use Evolution was an extraordinary disappointment. I hope that I am overseeing something, and you may tell me that my messages were saved in some place I am just too stupid to find. But in any case, points 4) and 5) are a design problem, that's the least I can say. [Bug 505310] Re: Choice of DVI outlet affects ability to boot 9.10
Certainly sounds like an X or gdm issue. After you hear the login sound, could you try pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1 and see if you can get into a terminal, as we'd be able to get some debugging information from you in that case. Failing that, if possible, could you hook up a standard VGA monitor or something, just to see the screen. You will probably need ethernet connected to do this, as configuring wifi by terminal may be difficult: Once in the terminal (if possible), run apport-collect -p xorg 505310 This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability to Change Non-Private data as it will be adding information to your bug report. If you have any problems obtaining this, let me know, or you can ask in #ubuntu-bugs on irc.freenode.net . Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Lucid Lynx. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. I can also confirm this bug. Printing works fine with every program except with evince. When printing in evince, the printer icon appears in the notification area and disappears again after a while telling me that printing has been successful, even though nothing was actually printed. To make matters worse, it seems to be a random bug, i.e. sometimes printing in evince does work but most of the times it does not. [Bug 507855] Re: Drafts are not saved anywhere and get lost (IMAP account)
** Description changed: Binary package hint: evolution Bug found in: Evolution 2.28.1 Using: Ubuntu 9.10 I set up an IMAP account for my new university's e-mail address. To sum it up: - 1) Save as (or shortcut Ctrl+S) works - 2) Save as Draft (or shortcut Ctrl+Shift+S) does not work! - 3) Send (or Ctrl+Enter) shuts the window and dumps the message. I can't find it anywhere. - 4) Closing the window (or Ctrl+W) does close the window immediately, without prompting a dialog window that asks me whether I want to save my draft - message is lost, too! - 5) Minimizing the edit window does the same as closing it - message is lost! + 1) Save as (or shortcut Ctrl+S) works + 2) Save as Draft (or shortcut Ctrl+Shift+S) does not work! + 3) Send (or Ctrl+Enter) shuts the window and dumps the message. I can't find it anywhere. + 4) Closing the window (or Ctrl+W) does close the window immediately, without prompting a dialog window that asks me whether I want to save my draft - message is lost, too! + 5) Minimizing the edit window does the same as closing it - message is lost!
