[Bug 408417] Re: No option to log in remotely via XDMCP

2010-01-15 Thread David Ayers
I do not use Xming but Xnest via Terminal-Server-Client since I'm
connecting from a Jaunty System.

I tried with both [xdmcp] and [xdcmp] (note the typo in the title of
http://library.gnome.org/admin/gdm/2.28/configuration.html.en#xdmcpsection
) without success.

Yet I noticed that netstat only shows a udp6 listener on the server:
~$ netstat -ltun|grep 177
udp61728  0 :::177  :::*

I installed wireshark on the client Jaunty but I'm only capturing IPv4
traffic.

So how would I configure XDMCP to bind on IPv4 interface or teach
Terminal-Server-Client to use IPv6?

[Bug 507837] [NEW] Desktop Effects prevents gnome-terminal from stretching across dual monitors

2010-01-15 Thread fraenki
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

My problem is whenever I tried to stretch a gnome-terminal window (or
any other window for that matter) across both monitors (start on the
left screen and stretch across to the right screen), the edge of the
terminal window (or other window) would stop at the edge of the monitor
screen.

I'm running nvidia 8400 graphics on a HP dc7800 workstation. I've played
around with the xorg.conf to no avail.

It took me a while to figure out, but by eventually disabling Desktop
Effects (initially, nothing was selected which I found odd), I can now
stretch gnome-terminal as well as other windows across both monitors.

Just for the record, I did attempt to move the gnome-terminal window so
it took up space on both monitors and then stretch it. All that did was
shrink the window back down to a single monitor.

I did not have this problem on 9.04.

[Bug 406515] Re: [Karmic] Brightness fn keys lost functionality (multiple laptops)

2010-01-15 Thread spaetz
Sorry for the noise, but are you sure this is an upstream kernel issue?
Comment #52 says the keys work fine with the mainline kernels 2.6.32. So
either this is ubuntu kernel-specific or it has been solved upstream
already (in which case ubuntu would need to backport a fix or upgrade
the kernel (improbble)). In either case, this would not be an invalid
bug report.

[Bug 507855] [NEW] Drafts are not saved anywhere and get lost (IMAP account)

2010-01-15 Thread drico
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Bug found in: Evolution 2.28.1
Using: Ubuntu 9.10

I set up an IMAP account for my new university's e-mail address.
Retrieving mail works fine. But all drafts I write get LOST!

When I write a new message -- no matter whether as a reply or as a new message
-- I've found no way to save that message as a draft (except as a local copy
via Ctrl+S), nor can I send it either: it simply gets dumped!
I had a hard time believing that I was experiencing such an awful bug. But I
repeated it several times, and it always behaves the same way. Even minimizing
the editing window dumps my draft. To sum it up:
 1) Save as (or shortcut Ctrl+S) works
 2) Save as Draft (or shortcut Ctrl+Shift+S) does not work!
 3) Send (or Ctrl+Enter) shuts the window and dumps the message. I can't find
it anywhere.
 4) Closing the window (or Ctrl+W) does close the window immediately, without
prompting a dialog window that asks me whether I want to save my draft -
message is lost, too!
 5) Minimizing the edit window does the same as closing it - message is lost!

Again: my drafts are NOT in the drafts folder, where they should be, nor
in any other folder visible to me. I also double checked the
configuration for outgoing mail, but it seems to be correct. Thunderbird
works without any problem with this IMAP account. I am also aware that
the default behavior of Evolution is to minimize to a tray icon.

So, my first attempt ever to use Evolution was an extraordinary
disappointment. I hope that I am overseeing something, and you may tell
me that my messages were saved in some place I am just too stupid to
find. But in any case, points 4) and 5) are a design problem, that's the
least I can say.

[Bug 403997] [NEW] Icons on desktop are being drawn with flickering and alpha-channel ignorance when moved around

2010-01-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The title says it all.
Pick up any Linux distibution using any version of Gnome (in my case Ubuntu
9.04) on any computer (clean install, standard settings) and you will face
major flickering when dragging an icon around on the desktop. Also the
alpha-channel of the icon is not drawn correcly until you drop the icon again.
Some fast computers with really nice drivers face less flickering, but there
are always some flickering since the drawing process does not seem to use any
double buffering.

[Bug 503690] Re: Cannot Extract in File Roller When Using Default Location

2010-01-15 Thread Vish
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut
should be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu install, that
affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be
addressed as part of this project.

For further information about papercuts criteria, please read
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut.

Don't worry though, this bug has been marked as Invalid only in the
papercuts project.

[Bug 505310] Re: Choice of DVI outlet affects ability to boot 9.10

2010-01-15 Thread Teej
Certainly sounds like an X or gdm issue. After you hear the login sound, could
you try pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1 and see if you can get into a terminal, as we'd be
able to get some debugging information from you in that case. Failing that, if
possible, could you hook up a standard VGA monitor or something, just to see
the screen.
You will probably need ethernet connected to do this, as configuring wifi by
terminal may be difficult:
Once in the terminal (if possible), run

apport-collect -p xorg 505310

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you
may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe
repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect
permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability
to Change Non-Private data as it will be adding information to your
bug report. If you have any problems obtaining this, let me know, or
you can ask in #ubuntu-bugs on irc.freenode.net . Thank you.

[Bug 505310] Re: Choice of DVI outlet affects ability to boot 9.10

2010-01-15 Thread Chris Coulson
It's not likely to be a gdm issue. It is either a Xorg, gnome-settings-
daemon or libgnome-desktop issue (or possibly gnome-power-manager too).

Ted - do you have SSH access to the box from another machine? It would
be useful so we can work out what Xorg *thinks* your display
configuration is when you boot.

reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the
development release - Lucid Lynx. It would help us greatly if you could
test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of
Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at

[Bug 504286] Re: does not print PDF files

2010-01-15 Thread Uwe Schilling
I can also confirm this bug. Printing works fine with every program
except with evince. When printing in evince, the printer icon appears in
the notification area and disappears again after a while telling me that
printing has been successful, even though nothing was actually printed.
To make matters worse, it seems to be a random bug, i.e. sometimes
printing in evince does work but most of the times it does not.

I'm also working on a fresh karmic system.

[Bug 507855] Re: Drafts are not saved anywhere and get lost (IMAP account)

2010-01-15 Thread drico
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: evolution

  Bug found in: Evolution 2.28.1
  Using: Ubuntu 9.10

I set up an IMAP account for my new university's e-mail address.
Retrieving mail works fine. But all drafts I write get LOST!

When I write a new message -- no matter whether as a reply or as a new
message -- I've found no way to save that message as a draft (except as a local
copy via Ctrl+S), nor can I send it either: it simply gets dumped!
I had a hard time believing that I was experiencing such an awful bug. But I
repeated it several times, and it always behaves the same way. Even minimizing
the editing window dumps my draft. To sum it up:
- 1) Save as (or shortcut Ctrl+S) works
- 2) Save as Draft (or shortcut Ctrl+Shift+S) does not work!
- 3) Send (or Ctrl+Enter) shuts the window and dumps the message. I can't
find it anywhere.
- 4) Closing the window (or Ctrl+W) does close the window immediately, without
prompting a dialog window that asks me whether I want to save my draft -
message is lost, too!
- 5) Minimizing the edit window does the same as closing it - message is lost!
+  1) Save as (or shortcut Ctrl+S) works
+  2) Save as Draft (or shortcut Ctrl+Shift+S) does not work!
+  3) Send (or Ctrl+Enter) shuts the window and dumps the message. I can't
find it anywhere.
+  4) Closing the window (or Ctrl+W) does close the window immediately, without
prompting a dialog window that asks me whether I want to save my draft -
message is lost, too!
+  5) Minimizing the edit window does the same as closing it - message is lost!

[Bug 507855] Re: Drafts are not saved anywhere and get lost (IMAP account)

2010-01-15 Thread drico
Ok, sorry for posting a bug report, my suspicion that I was too dumb to find
the place where drafts are stored turned out to be correct :S
Seems like they are stored by default under Drafts in the local account. A
bit confusing though...
It should have been a question, if any. Can you remove this question/report?
Thanks.
