[Bug 434475] Re: Samsung YP-K3 Media player device error
Hi, Seems I have this same bug with karmic/Rhythmbox and my Samsung YP-K3 Media player : Rhythmbox opens the library on my player only if I plug it in while the software is already running; If Rhythmbox is not running, it starts when I plug the player in, but no MTP library is shown. Furthermore, if I try to add music to the device, after uploading a few songs, there's a message saying: PTP Layer error 02fc: get_first_storage_freespace(): could not get storage info. I enclose a screenshot. What information do you need to continue to investigate? [Bug 509509] [NEW] non-default color theme corrupted after gnome-settings-daemon restart
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-terminal In Lucid (up-to-date as of 2010-01-17, gnome-terminal 2.28.1-1ubuntu1), whenever gnome-settings-daemon dies, the color theme of open Gnome- Terminal sessions changes, as expected. The colors change to black on light gray (#dcdad5), which apparently is Gnome-Terminal's own default. One would expect the colors to change back when gnome-settings-daemon is started again. However, the colors don't change back to what is set in the profile. Instead I get a strange dark gray (#1a1a1a) on light pink (#e6ddd5) color theme. Selecting another color theme and switching back to the original in Profile Preferences does fix the colors back to normal. This is especially annoying as I've changed the default system color theme to the Gray on black built-in theme in Gnome-Terminal. In this case the colors are - gray on light gray after gnome-settings-daemon dies - gray on light pink after gnome-settings-daemon is restarted Due to this bug I've noticed that it's not rare for gnome-settings- daemon to restart. It does that when gnome packages are updated (very often at this point in Lucid), and sometimes for no apparent reason. [Bug 475845] Re: delay on printing dialog in evince
Well, not exactly. Our bug has been probably caused by this patch. Marek Kasik proposed another solution, which is: to revert commit named 'Speed up printer listing in the print dialog' in gtk (SHA1 ID: dd52987d1fe3c3481fffc5b776fcac6b02114b01). Those timeouts are too short for the socket probably. This workaround helps if it is not related to the socket (e.g. remote print server). He will have a look at this code perhaps this week, but it doesn't mean that we'll get the updates very soon. The solution provided by Marek above (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+2.0/+bug/475845/comments/29) works fine for me. -- delay on printing dialog in evince https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/475845 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 492240] Re: Add an option in Nautilus' preferences to not show mounted partitions on desktop
This bug is filed upstream as https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=606848 Ignoring for a moment whether it is even useful to expose this configuration setting somewhere in the user interface, I have to say that I do not think this belongs in the Nautilus preferences dialog just because it is Nautilus who provides the desktop view (something a lot of people aren't even aware of, so how would they know to look here?) However, I cannot figure out where this option would fit in, though I do believe a configuration applet would be the most appropriate. If you are willing to work on this you might want to discuss this on the usability list (http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/usability), however before doing so I would advise one to: 1) Create a convincing use case as to why it would even be useful to have this setting exposed. 2) Suggest a place where this setting would be exposed 3) Possibly create a user interface mockup The possibilites I considered were: * Appearances (gnome-appearance-properties) -- However, last I checked some on the GNOME team were contemplating to remove the Interface tab from the applet, so among some there is already some apprehension to put more options in here. * Removable Drives and Media (thunar-volman-settings) -- This is focused on providing options related to how to handle mounted media, but I don't think an interface option really belongs in there. [Bug 460941] Re: Hard to find out which file used as icon
Sebastien, your motivations for having this sent upstream intrigue me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter. ;-) I'd like to point out that it is possible to figure out the filename using the icon name (see below for some Python code), so it would be possible to have the file chooser start with this file selected. However, ideally this isn't the route we want to take. Instead the file chooser in this instance should be replaced by a dialog tailored towards the job at hand, findings icons. That's going to require a bit of effort though and the Nautilus team can use any help they can get, so if you're interested in working on this, you'll want to start with writing a specification (rationale, use cases, user interface mockups). Some examples of specifications can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/CategorySpec (template: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SpecSpec) and https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features (for example: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/UserAccountDialog). An elaborate example of a specification can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NotifyOSD I'll keep an eye on this report. -- Here's some Python code which would allow you to lookup the filename for an icon name: import gtk icontheme = gtk.icon_theme_get_default() iconinfo = icontheme.lookup_icon('totem', size=256, flags=gtk.ICON_LOOKUP_USE_BUILTIN) print iconinfo.get_filename() ... /usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/totem.svg Had you gone with size=24 then it would have selected the PNG instead. -- Hard to find out which file used as icon https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/460941 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Did you backport the fixes to the fader and scrollbar? Now I remember I did lots of other changes, Unfortunately I don't remember exactly what I did, because it was long ago, maybe 1 year or more, but I'll try to remember: - I edited the font colors, which weren't used with consistency. And maybe I didn't change things accordingly to the possibility to have color variants. - I then changed Context.html and NextContext.html, which are responsable of handling history messages (conversation logs): I greyed out them and added the word BACKLOG (which is not really what a user should expect, also because the string is not internationalized) -I moved the time (removing the seconds and keeping only the HH:MM format) to the end of the message, so every new message which is appended to the first one will show when it was sent. I also tried to add the day and month in history message, but I wasn't able to do it. - I added a buddy icon border, because If you choose to have a background of another color, a blank image looks really bad without a border. [Bug 259163] Re: users-admin does not sort when Name/Login/Homedir field clicked
It's a while since I've actually looked at this. There was a bug day coming up among edubuntu developers and I mentioned this bug as one which was causing problems for some people. Jordan said he had a fix, though I'm not sure what version that was against. On an LTSP system, it's not uncommon to have hundreds of users. As it was, the gnome users-admin showed an (effectively) unsorted list of people which made it very difficult to use with large numbers of accounts. For this reason, some users had installed the KDE user admin tool. https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/edubuntu- users/2009-June/thread.html#5363 (the thread entitled Directory tools for Edubuntu server) The first step that seemed worthwhile was to fix sorting of users so you could find people. [Bug 508947] Re: Evolution crashes when trying to open emails containing .eml attachments
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash- file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding. ** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium ** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- Evolution crashes when trying to open emails containing .eml attachments https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/508947 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 259163] Re: users-admin does not sort when Name/Login/Homedir field clicked
The new users-admin is not really best designed for systems with hundreds of users, since it takes more vertical space than the old one: see the column on the left of the dialog at [1]. I'm not sure that's a real problem, though. What we could do is sort users by login, and use gtk_tree_view_set_search_column() so that you can type-ahead the beginning of the login to find an user. How does that sound to you and Edubuntu people? (Anyway, the biggest problem for now is that we don't support LDAP, but that's another story...) This bug is not high in my priority list since I have to fix all regressions before we enter feature/UI/string freeze, and then I'll start tackling this kind of little issues. 1: http://nalimilan.perso.neuf.fr/transfert/Capture.png -- users-admin does not sort when Name/Login/Homedir field clicked https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/259163 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-system-tools in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 508947] Re: Evolution crashes when trying to open emails containing .eml attachments
Hello Pedro, I followed your instructions and submitted a new report. It is here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/509621 Apport suggested I submit the complete report. But it is 152 MiB and with my internet connection it will take almost an hour to upload. So, I uploaded only the smaller report. If you need the complete report, I can upload that too. -- Evolution crashes when trying to open emails containing .eml attachments https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/508947 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 491786] Re: Umlaut/Special caracters not imported - .pst-file import (calender, contacts) from outlook XP (German) to Evolution 2.26
well only option for now is to edit the file with gedit or other utf8 editor, save the file and import it, that's a problem with the file itself and not an evolution or other application encoding one, i'm closing the bug for now, thanks. ** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Invalid -- Umlaut/Special caracters not imported - .pst-file import (calender, contacts) from outlook XP (German) to Evolution 2.26 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/491786 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 485712] Re: Download and send information unclear to colorblind
This bug is an upstream one and it would be quite helpful if somebody experiencing it could send the bug the to the people writing the software. You can learn more about how to do this for various upstreams at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME .
