[Bug 426185] Re: Gnome-panel fails to load various applets

2010-01-21 Thread Zeppe
Well, I can confirm you that in Karmic it's not fixed at all.
Additionally, this is a bug that many users can experience without being
able to easily reach the relevant launchpad bug entry. I myself tried
several times to google for it, and only today I managed to land here.

Ah, I have two PCs and that happens in both of them.

[Bug 510354] Re: package libpango1.0-0 should at most recommend libthai0, but not depend on it

2010-01-21 Thread Loïc Minier
Rolf, Ubuntu binaries are not ready for an embedded use case where the
space saving issue would really make a difference. However we do care
to have support for Thai out of the box -- especially if it's so cheap
in terms of space to get.

I think a bettter argument against the libthai dep is the recent
security issue; I argued the case in the Debian bug report.

I still believe it's wishlist and this is the tree hiding the forest;
you wouldn't had noticed if the code was maintained in pango itself (as
it is for other languages), and I believe using a separate library is
actually a good thing (as the security update shows -- we didn't have to
roll an update of pango and other embedded code copies, updating libthai
was enough).

I suppose a lot of people noticed this dep because of the security
update.

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: gnome-games

Unfortunately I don't have a good characterization for this bug, and I'm
not sure how to go about getting one.

Several times, while playing a game in aisleriot, my X session has been
suddenly logged out for no obvious reason. It's possible this is due to
some other bug that has coincidentally gone off while using aisleriot,
but it's happened enough times that it seems like it must be aiselriot
that is the trigger. I think it's always been while I've been mid-drag
with some cards, but I'm not certain about this.

Any advice on how to get some useful debug information for this would he
handy - there's not much of a handle on this, I know.

[Bug 510563] [NEW] Opening File when Playlist active wipes playlist

2010-01-21 Thread Jonathan Lozinski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

This is probably one of the most frustrating bugs which leads me to
remember why I stop using Totem from time to time.

If you have a playlist that you're working through, and you then click
on a media file (which opens in the default, Totem) it wipes your
playlist, stops playing what you're playing and you loose your playlist.

If you are working through a playlist of videos/podcasts etc. losing
your place and track of where you are in a list of 10/20 files this is
unbelievably annoying.

Steps:
1. Open Totem
2. Add several items to the playlist for listening/viewing
3. Start listening to an item in the playlist
4. Open a Nautilus window
5. Browse to a media file
6. Click on a media file
7. Note how what you were doing is now gone and playlist lost, you're now
watching that video

What should happen:
Either a new instance of Totem which doesn't lose what I was doing, or add the
new file to the playlist. What it certainly should not do is wipe something I
took time to get set up and stop playing something that I'm in the middle of.
I might pause what I'm doing and then want to quickly view a small video/audio
file, I still want to return to that activity.

Current Work-around:
Don't use totem for playlists, or set something else as the default handler.
If you do these things, then it won't wreck your playlist because you're using
two different apps for the same thing.

[Bug 510562] [NEW] Mouse spinning wheel not working properly

2010-01-21 Thread emosqueira
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Using the spinning wheel of the mouse with the option continuous
disabled I found a nasty bug in evice and that is easy to reproduce:

* Put yourself in the first page of the document
* Spin the wheel until the page view is forced to do an scroll
* Go back using the wheel to the first page

What is expected to happen is that the cursor in the page view of the
right is in the first page and that in the right you are viewing the
same page.

What happened instead is that the page view is correct (the cursor is in
the first page), but in the left you are now viewing the second page,
which is obviously incorrect.

When the window lost its focus evince finally shows the correct page (I
discovered this trying to include a capture in the bug description)

Unfortunately I don't have a good characterization for this bug, and I'm
not sure how to go about getting one.

Several times, while playing a game in aisleriot, my X session has been
suddenly logged out for no obvious reason. It's possible this is due to
some other bug that has coincidentally gone off while using aisleriot, but
it's happened enough times that it seems like it must be aiselriot that is
the trigger. I think it's always been while I've been mid-drag with some
cards, but I'm not certain about this.

Any advice on how to get some useful debug information for this would he
handy - there's not much of a handle on this, I know.

[Bug 508297] [NEW] [lucid] channels do not change color anymore

2010-01-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: xchat

Im using ubuntu lucid and
since update of libgtk2.0 from 2.19.1-1ubuntu1 to 2.19.3-1ubuntu1 on jan 15,
the channels in the channel tab stay brown and do not change color when they
are read (black), highlighted (blue) or a new message (red) arrived.

i downgraded to 2.19.1 with the deb from the launchpad-archive again and
the tab-colors work again.

some kind of incompatibility with that updated gtk-library? perhaps
something has to be updated in xchat too?

if you need more information, please ask.

[Bug 510573] [NEW] Ubuntu 9.10

2010-01-21 Thread yoleg
Public bug reported:

I found this in question #97794:

I've just installed Ubuntu 9.10 on an IBM T42 ThinkPad. When I open a PDF in
Evince and attempt to resize the window, the system freezes up badly - not even
caps lock responds. It doesn't seem to be an official kernel panic because
there are no blinkenlights. So far nothing else has caused the same sort of
freeze.

I have the exact same problem as the person above... I also have Ubuntu 9.10 on
a T42 thinkpad. I consistently get it from looking at a print preview of a
keyboard layout and resizing the window.

[Bug 508297] Re: [lucid] xchat channels do not change color anymore

2010-01-21 Thread Thierry Carrez
Note that colors seem to change (i.e. if you get pinged on a channel,
you get the pinged color), they just don't revert back to the normal
when you check out the channel. At the end of the day, it makes it very
difficult to see any notification.

Confirming that forcing old libgtk in LD_LIBRARY_PATH works around it.

[Bug 104807] Re: Support for Videos

2010-01-21 Thread John Pye
Problem with not having this feature is that offloading files from a
camera becomes a two-stage process -- first offload using f-spot then
manually check for movie files, and copy those somewhere as well, in
that case.

Without this feature, it's too easy to just do the first step, then
forget then other step, and clear the camera card without checking for
other kinds of files.

It does implement all the above when resuming from suspend or hybernate,

[Bug 465284] Re: Ctrl+c/Ctrl+x Doesn't work all of the time

2010-01-21 Thread unimatrix
I've noticed it's not just Ctrl+C/X. For example F2 (rename file)
sometimes does not work either. This leads me to believe that it happens
with pretty much any key.

[Bug 510608] Re: slow internet unable to send or download mail

2010-01-21 Thread Mitch Towner
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 510389] Re: Rhythmbox crashes without notices when I click PLAY button

2010-01-21 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

2010-01-21 Thread Vish
However , I would consider the present behavior as appropriate ,
If the user has selected the mail as reply and wants to save it as a draft for
later?
This allows the user to save the mail as a draft as a reminder for later and
can delete the original mail.

[Bug 174277] Re: Launchers under System Preferences and System Administration have similar names, leads to confusion.

2010-01-21 Thread Vish
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut
should be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu install, that
affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be
addressed as part of this project.

- The changes required in this bug are too large to be considered a papercut
For further information about papercuts criteria, please read
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut.

Don't worry though, this bug has been marked as Invalid only in the
papercuts project.

However, processing the crash report to get detailed information for the
developers failed as the retracer did not generate a useful symbolic stack
trace.
Please try to obtain a backtrace manually following the instructions at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and upload the backtrace (as an

 My own workaround:
When the mouse don't connect with the flash, I use the tab key to get to

the old off/on trick with the browser also do the trick if the whole
