[Bug 513148] [NEW] Empathy needs LP integration in the conversation window

2010-01-27 Thread David Planella
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

Ubuntu applications use the Launchpad integration library to provide
shourtcuts to Launchpad to obtain help, report bugs and submit
translations.

Empathy needs support for the Launchpad integration library:

  https://launchpad.net/launchpad-integration
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDevelopment/Internationalisation/Coding#LPI

Note that this was already fixed for the main contacts list in bug
436742, but there is another help menu (the conversation window, when
chatting to a contact) which still lacks Launchpad integration.

Now also see the same in Ubuntu 9.10 karmic. It just seems to have started in

I have automatic update notification on, so it would have been since these

[Bug 513032] Re: crash when I delete wireless connection

2010-01-27 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
Thanks for your report. Could you use Apport to provide us with more
informations? You should run
sudo force_start=1 /etc/init.d/apport start

and then reproduce the crash. I'm now closing this report since Apport
will create a new one automatically.

By the way, if you're using network-manager to manage your connections
(System-Administration-Network connections), then the right package is
network-manager, not gnome-sytem-tools. But Apport will detect this for
you.

Generally this kind of hang happens when 'passwd' answers something that

it's based on a dictionary word

Could you check that it's your problem by running

[Bug 513175] [NEW] Places: unmounted rivers should not have priority over bookmarks

2010-01-27 Thread Ernst
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I'm using Ubuntu Lucid Alpha2 (64-bit). However, I believe this
behaviour is present for a long time.

If I'm opening a file (see attachment), I have on the left side places. Those
places look like:
- Search
- recently opened
- home
- Desktop
- file system
- some mounted file systems
- some unmounted file systems
- bookmark 1 (Documents)
- bookmark 2 (Music)
- bookmark 3 (Pictures)
- bookmark 4 (Video)

As you can see in my screenshot, I have a lot of unmounted file systems
meaning I need to scroll for my bookmarks. For me (and I think for
others too), the bookmarks are the most important places (that's why
they are bookmarked). Maybe home and desktop are equally important, but
for sure they are more useful for a user than unmounted file systems -
otherwise they would have been mounted.

Because I have a lot of unmounted file systems, I need to scroll for my
bookmarks. I would really like to have my bookmarks one click away, so I
would suggest to place them before the unmounted drives.

I think this is really an improvement. Maybe this wish should be one of
the 100 paper cuts?

[Bug 490093] Re: [users-admin] Password is reset to old value when it's been changed using about-me

2010-01-27 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
Please, this bug is not about gnome-about-me hanging. I think I've found
the hanging problem and I've posted a patch upstream, so it should be
fixed at some point in Lucid. Else, open a new report.

As regards the true subject of this report, new upstream version of
users-admin fixes the problem by handling the password change itself,
instead of starting gnome-about-me. So that will be fixed for Lucid.

instead of forcing it to 50. But since services-admin has been removed
from Karmic, that's not really a fix. If it comes back in Lucid, please
check that it now works. Thanks!

[Bug 506365] Re: Update gnome-system-tools, liboobs and system-tools-backends

2010-01-27 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
Chris, would you bring services-admin back in your package? Real upstart
support is not here yet (although I may do this for the final release),
but services that are the more interesting to see are old SysV ones,
since they can be disabled without harming your system, and they are
always started on boot even when not needed. services-admin is at least
fully compatible with upstart jobs (it won't mess with them for now).

[Bug 513218] [NEW] gnome-power-manager does not detect battery on my laptop

2010-01-27 Thread Ernst
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I upgraded KArmic to Lucid Alpha 2. I don't know if the problem was
directly present, but yesterday my laptop suddenly crashed. The cause:
an empty battery. It turns out that gnome-power-manager always shows a
plug (and does not snow warnings about low battery level). See the
attachment. (This screenshot is of course without battery.)

A similar bug report is #393008. However, I did not have the problem on
Karmic. Also, 'acpi' does not output anything. So, I decided to open a

[Bug 379599] Re: System shutdown on 0% for 1 of 2 batteries.

2010-01-27 Thread Hans-Gerd van Schelve
Hello,

I can confirm this bug is also present in Lucid (g-p-m 2.29.1-0ubuntu2).

My setup is a Lenovo Thinkpad x61 and T61. I tested both of them with the
UltraBay battery.
First the UltraBay Battery discharges. Then GPM presents a warning and shutdown
the system when the ultrabay battery is empty. I charged them again and tested
again.

Still one battery is recognized but when manually do a cat
/proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/status and cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/status
g-p-m recognizes the second battery and everything works fine.

[Bug 344198] Re: .ppsx (Office 2007 slideshows) files not recognized

2010-01-27 Thread Olivier Tilloy
I can confirm the issue on Karmic. Note that I've had a look at the package in

It seems to me that all that's needed is to add an entry for
application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.presentationml.slideshow in

IMHO, the importance of this bug should be bumped. It's easy enough to
work around it for an advanced user, either by changing the file's
extension or by selecting Open with another application, but it's just
not a reasonable solution for normal users. To them, the only conclusion
will be: Ubuntu cannot open my presentation.

Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug.

[Bug 499884] Re: vino-preferences over ssh -X

2010-01-27 Thread Olberd
Sorry for the long wait. I am on leave from work at the moment, so I am not
using (or trying to) remote desktop.
Unfortunately, I haven't tested the setup more since my last comment.

* I did it more than once, so yes, reproducible.
* steps:
local.machine ssh -X gateway.machine
gateway.machine ssh -X remote.machine
remote.machine vino-preferences
local.machine ssh -f -L 5903:remote.machine:5900 gateway.machine
local.machine vncviewer localhost:3

The vncviewer on the local.machine now shows the desktop of the
local.machine. But it should show the desktop of the remote.machine.

I will try to test it some more in february.

This bug was fixed in the package xine-lib - 1.1.17-1ubuntu1

---
xine-lib (1.1.17-1ubuntu1) lucid; urgency=low

  * merge from debian, remaining changes:
- dont build and install the jack plugin
- build the faad plugin against the internal copy of libfaad
- tighten dependencies on ffmpeg.
- change order of the alternate dependencies libxine-plugins and
libxine1-misc-plugins. The former would drag in libxine1-ffmpeg
via recommends on the live cd.
  * new upstream release fixes:
- Add support for Matroska SIMPLEBLOCK. LP: #288762
- Make ~/.xine/catalog.cache writing safer. should fix LP: #331889

xine-lib (1.1.17-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
- Fixes the upstream part of the FTBFS on Hurd. (Closes: #530796)
- Gapless playback fixes. (Closes: #467110)
- Supports Matroska chapters. (Closes: #515212)
- No longer truncates catalog.cache. This fixes problems with failure to
recognise supported media types. (Closes: #523859)
  * Build-depend on libvcdinfo-dev, fixing libcdio static linkage.
(Closes: #537078)

[Bug 164120] Re: nautilus hangs when mounted nfs drive is no longer accessible

2010-01-27 Thread whoop
I agree that it is not very likely that this problem lies in nfs, but I also
don't think it lies in nautilus, thunar, dolphin etc. I am also experiencing
hangs in vlc, totem, terminal even the login screen (after I locked the
screen). Basically any application that requires (additional) disk access
(which is just about every application) has issues when nfs server is
disconnected. It could be that file managers are behaving especially bad as
they read entire directories (or even directory structures), not just a single
file.
I tend to think it has something to do with the mounting process itself or with
vfs, but I have not been able to find concrete evidence.

[Bug 513299] [NEW] allow removal of single gnome-utils app

2010-01-27 Thread Rafael Gattringer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-utils

Dear developers,

recently I wanted to remove a single app of the gnome-utils package
but couldn't. Since the apps are bundled, I would have to remove all
the other apps at the same time.

The dummy user like me has no idea of the underlying application
packages. In the worst case a user would remove one application (as
gnome-utils) and unintentionally remove all components.

So the idea would be to split gnome-utils into single applications.
gnome-utils could be retained as a meta-package(?) like
non-free-codecs of medibuntu.org.

Bye, Rafael

[Bug 110272] Re: [feisty] When moving mail between folders a copy of it is always dropped into the trash folder

2010-01-27 Thread wirehead78
It's a bug to me, because:

- The point of the trash folder is so that you can delete emails without
having them gone permanently, you can go in the trash to find deleted
emails and restore them, as long as it hasn't been emptied. I lose this
functionality if I have to empty my trash folder regularly.

- My ability to search for deleted emails is diminished, as I have to
sort through 100,000 other emails that should not be in the trash
folder.

- Whenever I do manually empty my trash folder, it freezes up Evolution
for 10 minutes. When it comes back, only ~5,000 emails were deleted.

- It simply doesn't make sense for items copied to another folder to
also be copied to the trash folder.

2010-01-27 Thread Sebastien Bacher
sorry but the bug has virtually no useful detail and you are the only
one having the issue, any change the box you are using could have
issues? nautilus crash should not break desktop login. you can also try
moving the nautilus.desktop entry to see if GNOME starts without this
one...
