2 things i have not tested , the lightscriber function and sd card of this
HP..i always forget.. and i do not see any software for it from synptic pkg

sd/mmm card slot..of course with additional software given to me by laptop
dealer..
linux for this laptop is good.. except for some packages i installed which
sometimes kills other packages..

[Bug 522525] [NEW] Brightness not adjusted when switching from AC to battery

2010-02-16 Thread Julien Valroff
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Hi,

When swtiching from AC to battery (and back to AC), the screen
brightness is not dimmed, while g-p-m is configured as it should (at
least, I think it is).

this is using an Acer Timeline 1810TZ with the latest available BIOS
update (3303).

The brightness can be adjusted using the fn keys or the brightness
applet. Setting the default brightness via g-p-m preference window also
works.

I do have an /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness file, which is
set to the current brightness.

I have also noticed that g-p-m needs a few seconds before updating its
status when unplugging the laptop from AC (or plugging it again), which
might means some information are incorrectly sent by acpi (?) but I am
not sure what information should be provided to try and debug this
issue.

Cheers,
Julien

[Bug 432598] Re: Do not show suspend/hiberate related UI if suspend is disabled in polkit

2010-02-16 Thread Martin Pitt
upower (0.9.0+git20100216.72bb2-0ubuntu1) lucid; urgency=low

Same version as the -1 upload to Debian experimental, but needs to clear NEW
  still.

  [ Martin Pitt ]
  * New upstream release, and updating to current git head:
- Rename the project, library, and D-Bus interface to upower.
- Bug fixes.
- Translation updates.
- Set client library's can_{suspend,hibernate} properties to False if
suspend/hibernate is prohibited through PolicyKit. (LP: #432598)
  * Drop 01-lid-status-fallback.patch, 02-dkpclient-singleton.patch: Applied
upstream.
  * debian/rules, debian/control: Add an epoch to the transitional
devicekit-power-doc package, so that the upgrade will actually work.
  * debian/rules: Explicitly enable gtk-doc building, upstream configure
disables that now.
  * Build libdevkit-power-gobject{1,-dev} packages, but mark them as obsolete.
These are still necessary, until upowerd is fully ported to the new
libupower-glib.

  [ Michael Biebl ]
  * debian/upower.install: Only install upower and upowerd, not the
transitional symlinks.
  * debian/control: Bump Standards-Version to 3.8.4. No further changes.

[Bug 503372] Re: Evince doesn't retain settings in Lucid

2010-02-16 Thread Smeuuh
Precisions : evince saves settings per pdf, and has default as
unmaximized and with a side panel. The previous behaviour was much more
sensible. I tried to delete ~/.gnome2/evince/ev-metadata.xml, which
contains the per-pdf information, but it had no effect, even when
reloading gnome and killing evinced (why do they need a daemon for,
anyway ?)

[Bug 522584] [NEW] Applications starting in fullscreen jump to the left monitor in a dual-screen setup

2010-02-16 Thread Michael Bienia
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

I'm having a dual-screen setup where mine main monitor is the right
one. Until recently (I don't know exactly when it changed) an
application started in fullscreen was displayed on the monitor with the
mouse cursor. But now it is displayed for a fraction of a second on mine
main monitor before it jumps to the left one. This only happens for
applications started in fullscreen and I have to move them to the right
monitor (once they are there they stay there as long as they are
running). Other applications stay on the monitor with the mouse cursor
when started.

[Bug 34886] Re: displays too many drives

2010-02-16 Thread impert
Would it be asking for the moon to suggest that in the drop-down menu for
Places there be another item, just below Removable Media called HD
Partitions or something similar?
On my system when I open Removable Media 39 partitions are shown, most with
the same label 10GB Filesystem which cover the screen. I usually want to
mount exactly none of them, and when I do, I use the terminal.

If there were another item for these partitions surely that would make everyone
happy.
My thanks to Martin Pitt for the workaround

[Bug 522587] [NEW] [lucid] gnome-settings-deamon segfaults in libgnome-desktop

2010-02-16 Thread Divan
Public bug reported:

For a few days now the Gnome desktop shows up in some default style
after booting and I find the following in dmesg:

[ 47.974605] gnome-settings-[1789]: segfault at 7fcb18b12000 ip
7fcb21b1f0c4 sp 7fffd05aa050 error 7 in libgnome-
desktop-2.so.17.0.1[7fcb21b09000+28000]

This happens again after every logon:
[ 503.640707] gnome-settings-[2356]: segfault at 7f375363 ip

However, running gnome-appearance-properties (which runs gnome-settings-

in dmesg. Starting gnome-settings-deamon by hand shows:

[Bug 13983] Re: Evolution virtual trash / real trash on IMAP server

2010-02-16 Thread mikef
I accept that Evolution is implementing IMAP as intended, however the
YOUR DOING IT WRONG argument is a silly one. Usability is about
producing a system which works in a human natural way, not necessarily
the most sensible. Users of IMAP want to be able to view and manage
their emails in a consistent and logical way.. when an ordinary user
uses Evolution they end up with 2 trash folders and 2 junk folders; when
they junk or delete their emails and then switch client, their emails
still appear in their inbox. This causes confusion and leads people to
switch to Thunderbird. The internet is littered with comments of people
using thunderbird in place of evolution for exactly this reason, in
spite of the integration advantages.

If evolution was a multi-platform email client then the argument might
hold more water, people could choose to use it exclusively and would
never notice the difference. As it is it isn't multi-platform and they
do notice the difference. What we are asking for is choice, I want to be
able to not use virtual folders. I want to move my trash and junk to
their own folders, which I can empty as I choose. I do not want my Inbox
littered with emails I don't want to see. I simply don't care if I am
doing it wrong, that is the way I and most others seem to do it. I want
evolution to simply allow me to do it the same way, until they do I will
continue with Thunderbird.

[Bug 522587] Re: [lucid] gnome-settings-deamon segfaults in libgnome-desktop

2010-02-16 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 427215] Re: hangs on some songs

2010-02-16 Thread Jamal Fanaian
I am running Rhythmbox 0.12.6-1ubuntu8 on Lucid and the issue still
exists. It also happened before I upgraded to Lucid, with whatever
version is in Karmic.

[Bug 522714] [NEW] gdm simple-greeter ignores gconf settings

2010-02-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

gconf-editor / apps / gdm / simple-greeter / settings-manager-plugins /
sound / active: unchecked

gdm still plays the incredibly annoying drums when showing the login panel
after a logout
(it may also play them on first-logins, but i can't tell because of pulse/alsa
auto-mute-on-startup bugs)

** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Invalid

[Bug 185756] Re: Couldn't display network:/// - Nautilus cannot handle network:locations

2010-02-16 Thread Troy James Sobotka
This bug report was registered when George W. Bush was the president of
the United States.

Same for the fonts:// bug noted in bug #193897

We will have moved to the moon before some of these bugs are actually
addressed.
