Can someone confirm if the poppler-data package is installed by
default in a fresh Ubuntu install ? (the standard one, not the Japanese

This bug is an upstream one and it would be quite helpful if somebody
experiencing it could send the bug the to the people writing the
software. You can learn more about how to do this for various upstreams
at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream. Thanks in advance!

[Bug 34813] Re: gedit fails to save files over smbfs/cifs

2010-03-01 Thread Gustaf
There seems to be a regression issue here. I have never had issues with
gedit and sshfs, until I recently upgraded from 9.10 to Lucid Alpha 3.
Now my gedit will not save any file over sshfs, although any other
editor does just fine.

[Bug 414408] Re: nautilus segfault, error 4 in libc-2.10.1.so

2010-03-01 Thread marcellus
I have some similar problem, but when I try to scan services with me-tv:

 me-tv[2984]: segfault at 9035000 ip 00c23071 sp bfe1791c error 4 in
libc-2.10.1.so

I know this should be posted somewhere else, I think the libc-2.10.1.so
has also something to do with this case, though!

thanks

Hello, I have 2.28.1-0ubuntu1.2 and still experience the same. I've
tried the proposed solutions, by adding a4 to /etc/papersize and the
LC_PAPER=a4 or LC_PAPER=en_GB.UTF-8, but the paper size still says US

[Bug 529849] Re: Nautilus seg fault with libgvfscommon.so

2010-03-01 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 197762] Re: file transfers on USB flash key (pendrive) are slowing down with time

2010-03-01 Thread gdneil
Hello Just commenting on the same problem - which for me also
appeared with external USB hard drives Transfer rate slowing down
with large files.

Tried all of the suggestions...

-Starting with pci=routeirq helped a little maybe?
-Turning off image preview in Nautilus might have helped a little?
-Reformatting externals (flash and HDs) to ntfs instead of fat helped the most
-Recompiling the latest ntfs-3g helped a little more

And then in frustration, I installed Debian(Squeeze) on an extra
partition and timed transfers of big files of different types (fat32,
ntfs, ext3, ext4) and found that Debian was much much much faster in all
cases. Unfortunately though, I seem to have lost the notes with my
actual timings Not sure if this helps, but hope it might... the
problem (for me at least) seems to be coming from the Ubuntu side...

I've used Ubuntu since 8.10 and it has always been slower at
transferring files than Windows, but 9.10 was significantly worse. Kind
of useable with the mods above, but nowhere near debian. Tried putting
some of the relevant debian packages into my ubuntu installation, but no
luck (and not enough knowledge/experience in these things I admit) but
maybe a possible direction? For now though, finding myself more often
booting Debian.

All the best,
-Neil

[Bug 529934] [NEW] Should restore form data after crash

2010-03-01 Thread Alexey Kotlyarov
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

When Evince crashes, it tries to re-open the documents open prior to
crash. However, if they were in fact PDF forms, the data entered in them
is not restored. Ideally, all the data entered should be restored, or at
least the prompt must indicate something less assuring, such as Reopen
documents and not Restore.

How to reproduce:
1. Open a PDF form in Evince, enter some data.
2. killall -9 evince
3. Open Evince again.
4. Choose Restore.

Expected results:
The entered form data is restored.

Actual results:
The form is opened, but the data fields are blank.

[Bug 529276] Re: gnome-volume-control-applet does not run at startup

2010-03-01 Thread Sebastien Bacher
so now you need both the notification area and the indicator applet

that's a transitional state everything is going to be migrated to the
indicator system over time, not this cycle though

Is there a way to configure what appears in the notification area and
indicator applets so I can select the notifications I want?

you will not get notification for things not running, if you are
concerned about the launchers the list is in
/usr/share/indicators/messages/applications and you can also tweak in
your user dir but I'm not sure about the directory now

[Bug 529946] [NEW] Temporary file created in source directory for 7z compression

2010-03-01 Thread Otus
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

When creating a 7z archive using file-roller, the temporary .7z.tmp file
is created in the source directory, instead of the target directory as
with other formats like .tar.gz.

This is problematic when the source and target directories are on
different partitions. The source may not have enough free space and in
any case this results in extra copying. I imagine it would be even more
annoying with a network share.

7z/7za from the command line does not have this problem.

[Bug 529948] [NEW] F-Spot crashes immediately after start

2010-03-01 Thread Siddharth
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

This bug is similar to other F-Spot Crash event logged already.
However, I tried running F-Spot from console, and found errors I have
been receiving are different than given in support forums. Complete
removal and re-install did not help either.

Here is message after issuing command f-spot from console
-
(/usr/lib/f-spot/f-spot.exe:21652): GLib-WARNING **: g_set_prgname() called
multiple times

must explicitly end the data stream to the loader before dropping the last
reference.
The program '/usr/lib/f-spot/f-spot.exe' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 2904 error_code 11 request_code 53 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Here is message after issuing command gksudo f-spot from console:

must explicitly end the data stream to the loader before dropping the last
reference.
The program '/usr/lib/f-spot/f-spot.exe' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 2942 error_code 11 request_code 53 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

  * debian/control:
- Bump libgnome-desktop-dev build-dep to 2.29.4
- Drop libxrandr-dev and libxrender-dev build-deps
  * Refreshed patches:
- 109_screen_resolution_extra.patch
- 111_screen_resolution_vendor_fallback.patch
- 99_autoreconf.patch
  * Dropped 92_display_properties_fit_small_screen.patch: this is not
required with the new capplet layout
  * debian/patches/95_desktop-effects-integration.patch:
