[Bug 531556] Re: [Lucid] Blank Screen after login

2010-03-11 Thread Dan Andreșan
Same behavior here as #8 on an nVidia 6200 card (with proprietary
drivers). Pressing Return will redisplay the greeter, this time visible
(I know it is a redisplay, because I can hear the sound). Ubuntu Lucid
up-to-date, upgraded from Karmic where I didn't experience this problem.

[Bug 537186] [NEW] problem after automatic login, system accidentaly logs out after pressing Enter key

2010-03-11 Thread pales.jan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Hi, I'm kicked out of my session after pressing Enter in some window when
using automatic login. No crash is detected. In details: I turn on my notebook,
after a while I'm in gnome session, I start Terminal, write for example 'sudo
apt-get update', press Enter and bang, I'm at gdm login.
Same happens also with evolution, I'm logged out after pressing Enter in
keyring password dialog. I think this is similar to bug #396226, or has
something to do with sudo and keyring.
I tried turning off automatic login, after start, when I press Enter on my name
in login dialog, sometimes display turns black for a second. It seems like gdm
is crashed and restarted. Then I press Enter again and system asks for my
password.

2010-03-11 Thread Sebastien Bacher
thank you for your bug report, the start of week is defined by the
locale and GDM_LANG is not a standard locale environment variable, why
don't you just set LC_ALL to the locale you want to use, ie en_US.UTF-8?

[Bug 537097] Re: Application Indicator menu can get really wide because of long artist name or song title

2010-03-11 Thread Jan Arne Petersen
To get it done right, the ellipsization would need to happen inside the
indicator-applet, but we currently have no property to mark a menu item
as ellipsized in dbusmenu or even on client side. So it is not really
easy.

This issue is also presented in Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04 alpha 3. Nautilus

This problem can be really embarrassing for people without relevant technical

I think investigating a condition before copying would be essential.

[Bug 533870] Re: Changing the long name in users-admin to the same name results in an error

2010-03-11 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
Yeah, by reproduce the problem I meant starting users-admin. But don't
worry, I think I've found the problem. The UID we found out thanks to
your debugging was 140733193389032, whose hexadecimal representation is
0x7FFF03E8: if you only keep the lowest 8 bytes, you get 0x3E8,
which is 1000 in decimal. So that means the code is wrong and doesn't
work on 64 bits CPUs: garbage appears on the second half of the number.

Looking at the code in liboobs, I could check that this part is the only
one which doesn't copy the UID/GID to a guint32 before passing it to
dbus_message_append_args(). Instead, it passes directly an uid_t
integer, which is likely to be only 32 bits on every architecture. These
games with integer types are quite complex!

Much thanks for your help, I'll try to check on a 64 bits machine that
this fix actually works, and push it before we release the next version.
Please continue testing the gnome-system-tools in Lucid to get them as
bug-free as we can!

[Bug 537227] [NEW] gnome-settings-daemon dies on first (auto-)login

2010-03-11 Thread Michael Kofler
Public bug reported:

I am testing Lucid using VirtualBox on a machine with a lot of RAM (8
GB). Rebooting is very fast (about 10 seconds).

I have configured auto-login. At the first login, the Gnome desktop
looks ugly, because gnome-setting-daemon dies. If I log out and log in
(now manually), everything works fine. I can also manually start gnome-
setting-daemon. I have this problem only with VirtualBox, not with real
hardware. Is it possible, that my startup/boot process in a VirtualBox
machine is perhaps too fast for the gnome-settings-daemon? (i.e. gnome-
settings-daemon is started before some other processes have ended etc.?)

[Bug 537271] [NEW] unlock gdmsetup-window fails when executed with sudo

2010-03-11 Thread tkranz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

When starting the gdmsetup through terminal with 'gdmsetup' or using
System--Administration--Login Screen everything works fine.. the
window appears and with clicking the 'Unlock'-Button it asks for the
adminpassword. But when starting it in the terminal with 'sudo gdmsetup'
the 'Unlock'-Button doesn't work anymore (the button gets grey and
nothing happens).

I found this in Ubuntu lucid (development branch) Release: 10.04

[Bug 537272] [NEW] Rhythmbox ask me to install wma audio codec (which is already installed) each time it tries to index a new wma file, even if I click on cancel

2010-03-11 Thread Nicolas DERIVE
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

When indexing, each time I start rhythmbox, it founds some tracks in wma
(not all, because it doesn't complain which other ones) which need to
install a new codec (according to him, but I already can play wma
files). It asks me, I click on search, it doesn't found a windows
media audio decoder (Aucun paquet trouvé avec les greffons requis, Les
greffons requis sont : Décodeur Windows Media Audio). I click on
confirm and it ask me for the same thing it can't found for another
file in the same situation, more than 20 times ! There should be a
mechanism which, when it doesn't find a codec some time, doesn't ask
again for the same one, until closed or until I update the packages
list. Same situation if I click on cancel instead of searching the
plugin. It's a quite boring problem with a huge music library.

2010-03-11 Thread Nicolas DERIVE
For the codec detection problem part, seems to happen with lossless wma
files. But maybe it should be better to fix the codec asking loop
which should apply to people which haven't universe enabled (because
they don't want) or don't want to install some non-free codecs it may
propose to install.

[Bug 507263] Re: Light 1px border around desktop

2010-03-11 Thread Timo
After playing around with some of the easier themes (Simple-Generic) and
modifying it a little in regard to the x- and ythickness values I can
indeed confirm that these cause the border around the desktop.

   xthickness = 0
   ythickness = 0

in the /usr/share/themes/Simple-Generic/gtk-2.0/gtkrc (if you have
that theme installed) - no border around the desktop.

I cannot find the widget class name of the nautilus desktop only, wich
would provide a quick workaround for any theme with this problem. Anyone
happen to know this?

Posting this at the end of any theme with the border problem should
remove this - replace X by the widget name, once you found it. ;)

style fix_nautilus_desktop_border
{
  ythickness = 0
  xthickness = 0
}

[Bug 537286] [NEW] Very slow login after disabling gnome-panel

2010-03-11 Thread The Fiddler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

System information: Karmic amd64, 2.5GB RAM, Intel 80GB SSD, Nvidia
binary drivers (195.36.08).

Users of 3rd party docks, like AWN, docky or cairo-dock, frequently
disable gnome-panel completely. Unfortunately, this results in a strange
bug, where subsequent gdm logins become significantly slower.

How to reproduce:
1. Run gconf-editor, head to desktop/gnome/session/required_components and
rename gnome-panel to something else (e.g. gnome-panel.disabled).
2. Log out and log in again. The log in takes at least 5x longer than before.
3. Re-enable gnome-panel (follow step 1 and rename gnome-panel.disabled to
gnome-panel).
4. Log out and log in again. The log in takes the normal amount of time.

This is reproducible without installing AWN, docky or any other dock
application, which means it is a bug in gnome-panel or something else in
the login sequence that relies on gnome-panel. I have tried disabling
startup applications in case one of those was causing the issue, but
this didn't change anything. The only variable is gnome-panel: disable
it and login is slow, enable it and login is fast.

As a measure of the change in login performance, fast translates into
3 bar movements in the ubuntu logo, while slow translates into 15.5
bar movements.

Re:[Bug 491426] Re: the black pawn taked the white pawn in the wrong place

2010-03-11 Thread luckygirl
Dear Sir or Madam:

Thank you for you nice reply.

You are a very careful person who corrected my mistake. I will not find
the mistake without your nice advice. Thank you.

Chess is intesting, but I do not have the talent of playing it. You must
be a very good friend of others, because you can tell them their
mistakes in time.

Best wishes!

Public bug reported:

I can't send some messages to some recipients. I don't see any pattern
in this behaviour, as some messages just won't come out giving me
useless Cannot send message alert box.

[Bug 265033] Re: Form contents are invisible when cursor leaves field, but data is still saved in form.

2010-03-11 Thread Vish
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut
should be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu install, that
affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be
addressed as part of this project.

- This is a bug and does not seem to be trivially fixable.
For further information about papercuts criteria, please read
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut.

Don't worry though, this bug has been marked as Incomplete only in the
papercuts project.

[Bug 537260] [NEW] Ctrl+Alt+Delete should launch task manager

2010-03-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: banshee

Besides from that there is no easy way to launch the task manager, this would
also help a lot of people converting from Windows.
Although Ubuntu is obviously not Windows and also does not want to be like it,
one of its goals is to provide a usable alternative. By creating that hotkey,
we would help many users from Windows and of course make our lives easier.
