[Bug 537186] [NEW] problem after automatic login, system accidentaly logs out after pressing Enter key
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm Hi, I'm kicked out of my session after pressing Enter in some window when using automatic login. No crash is detected. In details: I turn on my notebook, after a while I'm in gnome session, I start Terminal, write for example 'sudo apt-get update', press Enter and bang, I'm at gdm login. Same happens also with evolution, I'm logged out after pressing Enter in keyring password dialog. I think this is similar to bug #396226, or has something to do with sudo and keyring. I tried turning off automatic login, after start, when I press Enter on my name in login dialog, sometimes display turns black for a second. It seems like gdm is crashed and restarted. [Bug 512028] Re: Nautilus handles attempted copying of 4 GiB file to vfat poorly
This issue is also presented in Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04 alpha 3. Nautilus version 1:2.29.91-0ubuntu2. This problem can be really embarrassing for people without relevant technical skills! [Bug 533870] Re: Changing the long name in users-admin to the same name results in an error
Yeah, by reproduce the problem I meant starting users-admin. But don't worry, I think I've found the problem. The UID we found out thanks to your debugging was 140733193389032, whose hexadecimal representation is 0x7FFF03E8: if you only keep the lowest 8 bytes, you get 0x3E8, which is 1000 in decimal. So that means the code is wrong and doesn't work on 64 bits CPUs: garbage appears on the second half of the number. Looking at the code in liboobs, I could check that this part is the only one which doesn't copy the UID/GID to a guint32 before passing it to dbus_message_append_args(). Instead, it passes directly an uid_t integer, which is likely to be only 32 bits on every architecture. These games with integer types are quite complex! Much thanks for your help, I'll try to check on a 64 bits machine that this fix actually works, and push it before we release the next version. Please continue testing the gnome-system-tools in Lucid to get them as bug-free as we can! ** Package changed: gnome-system-tools (Ubuntu) = liboobs (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: liboobs (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Triaged ** Also affects: liboobs Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: liboobs Status: New = Confirmed -- Changing the long name in users-admin to the same name results in an error https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/533870 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to liboobs in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 537227] [NEW] gnome-settings-daemon dies on first (auto-)login
Public bug reported: I am testing Lucid using VirtualBox on a machine with a lot of RAM (8 GB). Rebooting is very fast (about 10 seconds). I have configured auto-login. At the first login, the Gnome desktop looks ugly, because gnome-setting-daemon dies. If I log out and log in (now manually), everything works fine. I can also manually start gnome- setting-daemon. I have this problem only with VirtualBox, not with real hardware. Is it possible, that my startup/boot process in a VirtualBox machine is perhaps too fast for the gnome-settings-daemon? For the codec detection problem part, seems to happen with lossless wma files. After playing around with some of the easier themes (Simple-Generic) and modifying it a little in regard to the x- and ythickness values I can indeed confirm that these cause the border around the desktop. xthickness = 0 ythickness = 0 in the /usr/share/themes/Simple-Generic/gtk-2.0/gtkrc (if you have that theme installed) - no border around the desktop. I cannot find the widget class name of the nautilus desktop only, wich would provide a quick workaround for any theme with this problem. Anyone happen to know this? [Bug 537286] [NEW] Very slow login after disabling gnome-panel
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel System information: Karmic amd64, 2.5GB RAM, Intel 80GB SSD, Nvidia binary drivers (195.36.08). Users of 3rd party docks, like AWN, docky or cairo-dock, frequently disable gnome-panel completely. Unfortunately, this results in a strange bug, where subsequent gdm logins become significantly slower. How to reproduce: 1. Run gconf-editor, head to desktop/gnome/session/required_components and rename gnome-panel to something else (e.g. gnome-panel.disabled). 2. Log out and log in again. The log in takes at least 5x longer than before. 3. Re-enable gnome-panel (follow step 1 and rename gnome-panel.disabled to gnome-panel). 4. Log out and log in again. The log in takes the normal amount of time. This is reproducible without installing AWN, docky or any other dock application, which means it is a bug in gnome-panel or something else in the login sequence that relies on gnome-panel. I have tried disabling startup applications in case one of those was causing the issue, but this didn't change anything. The only variable is gnome-panel: disable it and login is slow, enable it and login is fast. As a measure of the change in login performance, fast translates into 3 bar movements in the ubuntu logo, while slow translates into 15.5 bar movements. ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Very slow login after disabling gnome-panel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/537286 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
