[Bug 542744] Re: user group administration tool freezes temporary and reports failed authentication even for successfull actions

2010-03-21 Thread Michael Mayer
The patch failed because my org.freedesktop.SystemToolsBackends.service
is almost empty. This is the full file contents:

[D-BUS Service]
Name=org.freedesktop.SystemToolsBackends
Exec=/usr/sbin/system-tools-backends
User=root

That's all, end of file, and none of the other files in the directory
looks even remotely similar to the patch. Did the last dist-upgrade one
hour ago. I'am using the netbook remix, is it that different from the
desktop edition?

[Bug 543214] [NEW] Creating a New Panel in Gnome requires me to log out

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Hello,
If I right click on the gnome panel and select New Panel, the new panel will
not appear until I log out and log back in. In previous versions of Ubuntu, the

[Bug 543228] [NEW] cannot import further songs on my ipod

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

270 songs were imported correctly on my ipod, now I cannot add one single file
more and it still has 1/3 of free space on it.
When I choose the file(s) from my list (where they are completely right, as the
previously imported) of import menu I hear a click and nothing happens, not
even a dialog box telling to me what can be wrong; the result is no import at
all. I have tried to cancel a few songs from the ipod and it works, but it
seems that no more songs now are accepted inside, why

Re: [Bug 407300] Re: /etc/gdm/Xsession breaks LANGUAGE

2010-03-21 Thread Arne Goetje
David Planella wrote:
 While the patch fixes the issue where Xsession was writing a LANGUAGE
 variable with incorrect syntax, now we've got a situation where:

 • GDM can only write LANG (and the LC_xx categories)
 • language-selector can write LANGUAGE
 • That effectively means that the language one selects in GDM is useless,
 since LANGUAGE has precedence
 • In some applications LANG (or LC_xxx) is used, though.

 As a test, in my Catalan session I logged out, chose German as the
 language in GDM, logged back in and noticed:

 • Most applications are in Catalan
 • The calendar is half Catalan, half German
  - bug in the calendar code
 •  Firefox is in German
  - bug in firefox

 $ locale
 LANG=de_DE.utf8
 language=ca...@valencia:ca_ES:ca:en_GB:en
 LC_CTYPE=de_DE.utf8
 LC_NUMERIC=de_DE.utf8
 LC_TIME=de_DE.utf8
 LC_COLLATE=de_DE.utf8
 LC_MONETARY=de_DE.utf8
 LC_MESSAGES=de_DE.utf8
 LC_PAPER=de_DE.utf8
 LC_NAME=de_DE.utf8
 LC_ADDRESS=de_DE.utf8
 LC_TELEPHONE=de_DE.utf8
 LC_MEASUREMENT=de_DE.utf8
 LC_IDENTIFICATION=de_DE.utf8
 LC_ALL=

 This can be potentially very confusing to users switching locales.

I agree. Language-selector has code to generate the LANGUAGE variable
out of any given LANG locale code. It uses the file
/usr/share/language-selector/data/languagelist to find fallbacks for
LANGUAGE and if the specific locale is not mentioned there, just strips
the encoding and country code from the LANG value.

I think this code and the fallback list should be placed into a separate
library, so that it can be used by gdm and ubiquity/debian-installer to
set the LANGUAGE variable correctly.

I can split out the code from language-selector and create a
command-line interface to query the mapping. If you guys agree with
that, can we get this done until beta2?

[Bug 543263] [NEW] Added custom link does not execute from favourites

2010-03-21 Thread 1985m...@gmail.com
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gconf

When user created a new link to executable file and then drag and drop
it on top of the ubuntu desktop logo in top right corner of the screen,
message appeared informing that the custom link has been added to the
favourites menu, then user double click on the added link from the menu
but nothing happens, no error message was displayed, no 'opening panel'
panel was launched.

When custom link is added to favourites menu the user should be able to
execute it and open the application.

Added link opens application when executed from nautilus browser.

[Bug 543268] [NEW] gconf-2 Added custom link to Favourites menu does not retain icon and it is displayed with default one.

2010-03-21 Thread 1985m...@gmail.com
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gconf

When user created a new link to executable file, assigned it a new icon
by drag and drop custom graphics(verified on .xpm) and then drag and
drop it on top of the ubuntu desktop logo in top right corner of the
screen, message appeared informing that the custom link has been added
to the favourites menu, then user notice that the added icon is
displayed in inconsistent way to the item displayed in nautilus browser.
Added item in favourites menu was listed with default launcher icon
rather than customised one.

When custom link is added to favourites menu the icon should be retained
and not set to default one.

Added custom link icon is displayed correctly when viewed in nautilus
browser.

[Bug 542767] Re: Lucid icon for »Login Screen « still brown

2010-03-21 Thread Monkey
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.  I have classified this
bug as a bug in gdm.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 543304] [NEW] Line break problem with .txt-files

Ubuntu 9.04 amd64 2.6.31-20.58-generic

I have a .txt that I use on both my Ubuntu and Windows computer.
A line break in Notepad (win) becomes a double ditto in Gedit,
and a line break in Gedit does nothing in Notepad.

But this only applies to text I have recently written.
The document is kind of old and the original lines look OK.

[Bug 543301] Re: Nautilus won't launch

2010-03-21 Thread Lorenzo De Liso
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

This can be an update-related problem, so try to run: sudo apt-get
update sudo apt-get upgrade and see if the problem is solved.

Regards,

Lorenzo D. (alias BlackZ).

[Bug 518701] Re: Read receipt is not sent

2010-03-21 Thread Michael Luthardt
I confirm this, too.
Ubuntu 9.10, Evo 2.28.1.
As recipient of a mail tagged in Evo with ask for read receipt I don't get a
pop-up opening the mail. This is so if I tag the individual mail or if I set it
as general option.
Btw., prioritize the mail doesn't work as well.
I do not see the urgency of this bug as low. For business contacts it's very
desired to have this possibility at hand.

[Bug 533264] Re: Installing package that contains a .desktop file does not appear in the Application Menu

2010-03-21 Thread Daniel Bell
Hi Martin,

I've downloading and installed the Beta release, and after installing
the .deb file the menu item is created and located where I expected it
to be.

I do run updates on my machine every week (at least) so I do have
current updates, I guess that it is something unique to my machine - a
symptom of the many updates perhaps?

[Bug 50115] Re: Weather applet doesn't update after I connect to a network

2010-03-21 Thread Adi P
The problem is still here, annoying as ever! I'm using Karmic, two
installations, they behave the same. I'm referring to the weather
information in the system clock (Clock 2.28.0), not sure it's the one
discussed here, but it's the exact same issue, with the difference that
if it doesn't update by itself when I wake up the laptop, it will never
do so until reboot.

[Bug 543356] [NEW] Can't install gstreamer0.10-fluendo mp3 plugin from the interface

2010-03-21 Thread Saverio Miroddi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

The first time I have to play an mp3 file, the search codec window pops
up, with three packages (gstreamer ffmpeg, fluendo mp3, plugins ugly).

Rafael Gattringer wrote on 2010-03-20:
 Regarding the decision making process I think
 it is good that Mark backs the decision of the
 design group. That gives the groups security
 that their decisions are respected.

I agree with the posters above. Even under pressure, Mark shows that is
a true leader.

However, I still hope he will discuss the issue with the design team and
revert the change.

[Bug 543365] [NEW] gthumb thumbnails generation is done in once

2010-03-21 Thread ®om
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gthumb

When opening a photo folder in gthumb 2.11.2.1, it generates all the
thumbnails in once, and it takes time (for example 5 or 10 seconds).

It would be better if thumbnails are generated once photo at a time, and
shown progressively (like in nautilus).

[Bug 491489] Re: Duplicate Entry for Samba Mounts in Places

2010-03-21 Thread Callan Davies
I have had this problem all through my use of Karmic (my external device
is a Thecus N2200 NAS, sharing files across the network via SAMBA).

I wanted to add the comment that just tonight I did a fresh install of
Lucid Lynx 10.04 BETA. The problem is still present.

Curious thing, with Lucid and likewise with Karmic ... I have two shares
mounted, called 'shared' and 'media'. It was only ever the MEDIA one
that was showing up twice.

I'll try changing the order of the fstab entries and see what effect
this has.

[Bug 275535] Re: gnome-search-tool does not find a file in a path containing a hidden directory despite option 'Show hidden and backup files'

2010-03-21 Thread hingerty
I gave up on installing Krmic. So I went back to Jaunty and tried to reinstall
everything..on a clean slate. I downloaded .deb for boxee. My synaptic didnt
see it. My add/remove also..didnt see it, after I added source to sources.lst.
So I used terminal and now I have an icon and the entire dir is in opt/boxee.
Is this where it should be..its the only thing there.
So I thought I would try to run it...nothing. 3 secs of black then nothing.
Tried to reinstall...but its nowhere to be found. Using search tool it is just
not there. BUT I happen to know form browsing that it is in opt.(IT IS) Also
hidden files is checked off. SO its not that.
Why is this group of files invisible??
Recently I had some problems with samba..sharing and I only learned that there
are two types of sharing..usershares and samba shares? I was using gksudo
natilus to change attributes. So I had problems with login because I didnt Own
Home. All of that is fixed. Opt appears to be Root. Full accessable. Read/write.
Why does this program appear to be hidden
Is it boxee? I dont really think so.
BTW I have ati r300 or somesuch video crd, drivers. Using default video drivers.

[Bug 540775] Re: when log off no panel appear if you disable password on log on

2010-03-21 Thread meborc
how to reproduce the bug:
1) create new test user with system-administration-users...
2) add a new password to this user, but tick the log in automatically box
3) log out and try to log in with the new user using a different desktop
environment

as soon as you click on the new user, gnome will load... there is no
option to choose any other DE

possible fix: have the bar with keyboard and DE selection appear as soon
as GDM loads, NOT when you click on any user
