[Bug 552119] [NEW] EoG should display progress bar in full screen mode

2010-03-30 Thread Kyle Clarke
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eog

Above title says it all. Progress bar should show when loading new
images (and not when image is already loaded) so you know the system has
responded to your button press. It would also be nice if the file name
showed in the centre of the progress bar so you knew what was being
loaded.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04
Package: eog 2.30.0-0ubuntu1

[Bug 532633] Re: [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment

2010-03-30 Thread scholli
Work with Windows @ work and work with Ubuntu @ home it's not stringent
necessary to put them on the right. I have to respect that it's confusing for
some peoples, mostly for elder persons, okay. At other side there are many
peoples in the world who can handle it easily. They say maybe, like me: hey
Windows is this kind, Ubuntu is that kind - Finish. The most important reason
is that Ubuntu get something different and gains a new own identity at the
first sight. The next, I am curios, is what the new feature will be in 10.10.
For this it's necessary to put them left as default and let peoples change it
easily to right if they prefer that more.
First step for accustom ... Right as default in Lucid, what you prefer, isn't a
enough clear message for the folk outside. And we have to begin with the
training now ... ,)

@ Mike:

No frustrating... said this from James, it will come. Wait... I am
updating right now. Maybe it's inside?!

sorry the change there doesn't require cairo change I was thinking about
some other one, I reviewed this change some time ago see bug #92296 but
the difference was not obvious and none of the example of launchpad
seems to render differently, we could get the fix in still if some users
can verify it's working as it should

[Bug 516520] Re: lucid lynx - login screen stuck in a loop - SYSTEM BROKEN

2010-03-30 Thread Joshua Davison
Was experiencing the same login boot issue you guys describe after the current
Lucid update (was working on earlier Alpha)
Tried the usual update NVidia drivers etc, No luck :-(
I couldn't login, but was able to see this by using tty1 and install Lynx (ugh!)

After seeing CristianCantoro's posts, I decided to try sudo apt-get
install gnome-desktop-environment, which solved the issue for me :-) I
hope this helps others.

P.S. Yes, GDE was installed before the updates.

[Bug 532633] Re: [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment

2010-03-30 Thread Pyramid Technologies
What do you think would happen if Microsoft said We're doing away with
the Start Menu and Taskbar we've had since 1995. we're going to
implement the Ribbon interface instead.

I can guarantee that the corporate users would not deal with that change
at all. Companies would balk about the learning curve, how it breaks
this or that, etc. Home users would complain to the ends of the Earth,
switch to Mac, refuse to upgrade (like the last hardcore hold-outs for
XP are doing now), etc.

Livid Lynx...sorry... Lucid Lynx is fast becoming the Vista with the
Ribbon UI in the minds of many I believe.

Mar. Canonical. LEARN from Microsoft's mistakes.

[Bug 542300] Re: Missing Menu Entries - Lucid Beta 1

2010-03-30 Thread Jonathan George
This bug is a superset of 551727 which specifically addressed the
missing Control Center menu item on the gnome-panel System menu. It
would obviously be best for this item to both exist and to be enabled by
default, but at least it should be an option.

Too bad the brainstorm idea about consolidating configuration items was ignored.

2010-03-30 Thread scholli
Wrong Pyramid. Microsoft will include a new feature, because it's really
better and if they are unsure the will insert a option for redo this
change to old habits. The same happens here. We have a change, but you
are always free to redo it if you wish it. The mistakes of Microsoft are
that they made very complex changes ... this isn't the case here. In
Germany we say: don't convert a mosquito to a elephant! ,)

[Bug 552157] [NEW] gnome-search-tool in 9.10 discards configuration when started with --path=

2010-03-30 Thread fsando
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-utils

gnome-search-tool changed behavior from earlier versions:
discards configuration when started with --path=

Earlier behavior restored by copying earlier version from 8.10 to 9.10

Example with nautilus-scripts
.gnome2/nautilus-scripts/search.here.sh:

In ubuntu 8.10
#
#!/bin/bash
cd $NAUTILUS_SCRIPT_CURRENT_URI
exec gnome-search-tool

#
When starting this script by right clicking it starts in the current directory
AND remembers all settings

in 9.10 (1)
#
#!/bin/bash
gnome-search-tool --path=$NAUTILUS_CURRENT_URI

#
When right clicking and running this script
Expected behavior:
Start in current folder AND remember all settings
Actual behavior
Starting in current folder BUT all settings forgotten

in 9.10 (2)
#
#!/bin/bash
gnome-search-tool

#
When right clicking and running this script
Expected behavior
Don't know what to expect
Actual behavior
Starts in /home/user AND all settings remembered

Copied gnome-search-tool from 8.10 to 9.10 and expected behavior returned
Copied files:
/usr/bin/gnome-search-tool
/usr/lib//libgnome-desktop-2.so.7.2.4
/usr/lib/libgnome-desktop-2.so.7 (symlink)

[Bug 543626] Re: The Help Browser is BROKEN. Scrolling up and down creates tearing, and it does not draw correctly. Thereby making the Help Browser broken and worthless.

2010-03-30 Thread Josh Leverette
No, I cannot take a screenshot. Doing that somehow forces a screen
refresh, which updates the help browser. I may not be able to prove it,
but it is happening. Also, I mentioned i'm using an intel GMA 950,
didn't I? There are no drivers for intel graphics cards than the built
in drivers, at least as far as my knowledge goes.

[Bug 532633] Re: [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment

2010-03-30 Thread Tim Webster

Gui inconsistency bug.

1) Notice the sub window tabs close on the right side and the main
window closes on the left side.

Either change all the sub window tabs or change the main window.

2) Icons must be intuitive

What does ^ represent?

 __
|__| is clearly maximize

What does v represent?

__ is clearly minimize

3) The size of the ^, v, x is too small and only occupy a small
space within the circles.

This is critical usability bug!!

4) It is the standard across multiple OS to place the main window controls at
the right.
Please do NOT make this change if upstream window managers are unwilling to
acept
window control icons move the the left.

[Bug 552162] [NEW] Add new mime type video/mp2t to totem, xine, mplayer and vlc

2010-03-30 Thread Oliver Joos
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: desktop-file-utils

Since march 26, 2010 there is shared-mime-info 0.71-1ubuntu1 which
recognizes the new mime type video/mp2t alias mpeg 2 transport
streams (see bug #502642).

I successfully tested some mp2t streams in totem, xine, mplayer and vlc.
Since these video players do support these streams, it should be added
to their mimetype lists under
/usr/share/applications/${PLAYERNAME}.desktop and to the default
application list under /usr/share/applications/defaults.list. Like for
video/mpeg I'd expect totem to play video/mp2t by default.

[Bug 508452] Re: wnck-applet crashed with SIGSEGV in g_closure_invoke()

2010-03-30 Thread Chocwise
Same here. Crash on trying to access the desktop switcher applet's settings.
After the crash and the automatic restart it is accessible and I can change the
amount of desktops.
I use the beta 1 live cd on a computer with Nvidia 8600GT if that matters.

On a Toshiba laptop with ATI (using radeonhd) and using the beta 1 there was
the Problem, that when I tried to set the horizontal virtual desktops to 4 in
ccsm it kept changing the value back to 2. If I tried to set it to 3, 5, 6, ...
it worked though.
Maybe another Bug, but maybe it's connected somehow.

[Bug 248355] Re: Evince doesn't anti-alias graphics

2010-03-30 Thread Anders Kaseorg
Josh: Your patch modifies Makefile.am without updating Makefile.in or
causing the packaging to run automake. So it fails to build the new
object and dies with a linker error.

After fixing that, it seems to work for me on the examples from this
bug, such as ubuntu-manual-draft.pdf.

I would suggest annotating the patch to say where it came from:

[Bug 552016] Re: two differend cursor themes since last update

2010-03-30 Thread mabawsa
Your Majesty (sorry I couldn't resist that one) If you switch to metacity
(press Alt-F2 type: metacity --replace) does he problem still persist?
You can switch back to compiz by using compiz --replace.

For me the cursor goes to comix regular in Compiz on the desktop but
displays my default cursor within applications. When I switch to
metacity it performs as usual.

I will tentatively mark this as a compiz bug, I will open a new bug if
metacity doesn't change the cursor behaviour.

[Bug 532633] Re: [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment

2010-03-30 Thread scholli
@ Webster:

 + - X ... ^ v X ... [ ] _ X is obviously the same and
the most used symbols I saw over the last years in Windows-decorations
in gnome-look.org for example.

^ means simply: up - bigger - grow
v means oviously: down - small - minimize

The next is the design-issue... put v and ^ together and you will
get a X. It contains more consistency than + - X ... [ ] _ X
if we look critical over it.

Last but not least ... Imagine that [ ] _ X in a round button. You
think it will looks fine?

But it's true. ^ v X is the first time I see in a default theme.
Peoples who aren't familiar in changing the default-look will have to
accustom to this new kind of symbols (for them), too.

[Bug 501207] Re: sound-juicer, rhythmbox, nautilus crash at audio CD insertion

In an attempt to fix this bug, upstream indicated that a couple of fixes have
been applied. See https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=606010 It seems
to me that this should result in a Fix Committed tag instead of Incomplete
Why did you change it back to Incomplete. Again all information requested has
been supplied.

Also, again in Comment #11, I asked how I might test the fix that
upstream has applied and have still not received a response.

Please advise and I am sure that we would all be glad to retest.

Same problem here. Can't start gnome-appearance-properties:

(gnome-appearance-properties:2322): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_display_sync:
assertion `GDK_IS_DISPLAY (display)' failed
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

I wonder if this was fixed and broken again because of a recent change?
The original comments are from march 18th.

[Bug 552214] [NEW] No mouse cursor after resuming from suspend during the graphical login prompt.

2010-03-30 Thread SAL-e
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

I am using Lenovo T400. The bug is reliably reproduced. Steps to repreduce:
1. Boot the notebook.
2. Wait until graphical login prompt is displayed.
3. Suspend the computer. (any method of the methods will work: close the lit,
press Fn+F4, or select the 'Suspend' option from the power button on the
right-bottom corner.
4. Wait until the notebook suspends ( a.k.a Stand-by )
5. Start the notebook again. (open the lit if it was closed, or press the power
button)
6. Wait until the login prompt appears again.
7. You can notice that there will be no mouse cursor shown, but if you try to
move it you will notice that mouse is working. Just move to the bottom-right
corner were the power button is located and you will notice that button will be
activated. If you press the left mouse button the power menu will appear. So
the mouse is working, but no cursor is displayed.

Let me know how I can help to resolve the problem.

[Bug 552231] [NEW] terminal defaults to Bourne Shell-like profile

2010-03-30 Thread frederik.nnaji
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

in a gnome-terminal in 2010, the default shell configuration profile should
include scrolling at least intuitively.
the feature is available from the profile-preferences dialog in the
gnome-terminal menu, but is disabled by default.

folks, i know to some of you this might be a religious or philosophical
topic, bourne shell has been a home, a living place to many of you guys
who've been around linux in it's early days, all respect goes out to you
people who held up the flag for linux and free software ever since.

let's make the environment that once was the main user interface to the linux
kernel more intuitive, following the ideas of usability and intelligent human
interface design, by making the shell infinitely scrollable by default.
we are in an age of computing, in which only exceptional machines are unable to
memorise a few hundred lines of code, due to small Random Access Memory
capacity..
even if so, they will obviously not be able to run Lucid or even Karmic, not to
speak of X itself then.

i hope not to annoy anyone with this bug report / opinion

i found no technical arguments for my bug report and solution, so i
chose historical ones.

Pablo, that version of evolution-data-server is no longer at the ppa
referred to in post #24. It has probably been removed because there is a
later version of evolution and its components available for Ubuntu 10.04
(Lucid). You might be better advised to update your 9.04 to 10.04 when
it is released in a few weeks (it is currently available in beta).

Have you tried my suggestion 2 in post #24?

[Bug 504165] Re: Evolution freezes when pressing HOME while editing RTL email with weak directionality characters

2010-03-30 Thread Usama Akkad
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: evolution

When editing an RTL email, pressing in an RTL paragraph HOME will freeze
  evolution.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Configure an RTL keyboard layout such as Hebrew or Arabic
  2. Start a new email.
  3. Write the following text:
  * SOME RTL TEXT
(the uppercase letters represent RTL characters such as Hebrew or Arabic.
Also the text must start with a weak directonality character -both asterisk and
dash reproduced the bug for me).
- 4. press HOME to go to the start of the line.
+ 4. press HOME to go to the start of the line.

  Instant freeze.

+ rtl text to test

[Bug 462267] Re: battstat applet is missing

2010-03-30 Thread bornagainpenguin
I was able to cheat by going to the nearest Debian mirror (in my case:
http://debian.osuosl.org/debian/pool/main/g/gnome-applets/ ) and
installing the appropriate gnome-applets AND gnome-applets-data for my
version of Gnome. I ignored warnings that I was installing newer
versions of the software than what was in the channel and after some
dependencies were installed and I did a quick logout I was able to add
back the battstat icon to my panel. This way seems to be better than
having to do a complete build of the package manually and works on
Ubuntu Karmic.

As has been already stated the Battstat applet is useful to endusers
because it gives more accurate reports of battery life status at a
glance. If Cannonical would like to remove battstat so badly, perhaps
some attention could be given to gnome-powermanagement so it offers
comparable features to battstat rather than just arbitarily removing
things?

[Bug 552132] Re: gnome-appearance-properties crashed with SIGSEGV in g_cclosure_marshal_VOID__VOID()

2010-03-30 Thread Doug McMahon
Exact same crash report on a fully updated 03/30 install, though..

On another machine, (fairly similar hardware), also fully updated there
is no problem, gnome-appearance-properties opens as expected

Reverting to these on install with issue allows gnome-appearance-properties to
open
capplets-data_2.29.92-0ubuntu3
gnome-control-center_2.29.92-0ubuntu3
libgnome-window-settings1_2.29.92-0ubuntu3

Updating back to the current 2.30 versions again causes the crash.

[Bug 550774] [NEW] Run Application does not have proper file name completion

2010-03-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The Run Application (Alt-F2) dialog in GNOME does not have proper
support for file name completion.

If you want to run a file in some directory, you enter the directory
name and then you are stuck unless you know the first character of the
file name. Even if there is only one file in the directory, you need to
supply the first character of the file name to proceed.

And if the directory contains more than one file with the same file name
prefix, you need to enter an unique prefix to proceed.

It should be possible to get a list of files matching a given prefix (or
all files in the directory if no prefix is given). It should provide the
same functionality as TAB completion in the shell (but not necessary
using the TAB key).

(Ubuntu 9.10.)

I think the Run Application dialog is provided directly by the panel.
What you're describing sounds like gmrun [1], which is available in the
archive.
