Re: [Bug 453072] Re: Context menu for an USB pendrive shows Unmount, Eject and Safely Remove Drive
Michał Gołębiowski [2010-03-31 16:56 -]: Who in the world will want to actually remove the CD-ROM drive? AFAIK it would cause the drive to be unusable until a reboot so I cannot think who would really want anything like that... Well, I do that, but indeed for CD-ROMs you can just yank the cable, there's nothing to be written for them. It's a more interesting option for iPods, card readers, etc. So for CD drives (which we can identify reliably) we might remove the Safe removal option. [Bug 552555] [NEW] lucid upgrade terminal window too large and can't resize
You have been subscribed to a public bug: The screensize on my hp netbook is 576 vertical, but I am running standard Ubuntu, not the netbook remix. I did the upgrade to the current lucid alpha and so far it has gone better than anything since Gutsy, but the terminal window goes off the bottom of the screen and I can't resize it or so anything else to make the current activity (at the bottom of the screen) visible. You are choosing a HUGE font, so simply using something smaller would work, or a resizable text window would be best. [Bug 532633] Re: [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment
The change of the buttons from the right to the left, with different order is a fatal change. Even I as an experienced computer user was annoyed. Having had a different them, where all buttons look the same, even on mouse over. So it was unclar which button did close/maximize-minimize/hide... Window Maker, having copied the design of NeXT/NeXTSTEP/OPENSTEP (what Apple bought and made worse, design wise) was the best thing in my opinion. Having the close and hide buttons on the far right, far left, so nobody could accidently slip and press the wrong button, saving the user from answering a stupid question like are you sure you want to close the document without saving it... Normal users avoid menus, and they most certainly are not aware of the F11 shortcut. Do Ubuntu want people to watch/show their pictures in Eye of gnome or not? [Bug 553139] [NEW] In Fullscreen mode: menu containing close fullscreen not found easily
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: eog It is not that obvious hot to reach the fullscreen menu. For me there is no problem but for a normal user may be annoyed or not understand what to do when there are no menus after going to fullscreen. The way to reach the buttons are to hover the mousepointer at the top of the screen. I propose that the the user experience when showing photos in fullscreen/slideshow should be the same as when showing video in fullscreen. This means shortly that the menus should be shown as the mouse is moved. When the user stops moving the mouse the menu should disappear after a certain timeout as in the Video player. There should be no inconsistency that can confuse the user. [Bug 553162] [NEW] GDM and language-selector should agree on setting the LANG variable
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm This is a follow-up to bug 407300, which has been fixed but a separate issue remains. I'm opening a separate task for language-selector, as it refers to the interaction between it and gdm. The problem is basically that GDM seems to always override the LANG values set by language selector, and quite easily one can get to a situation where LANGUAGE and LANG differ and the desktop is a mixture of two languages. Steps to reproduce (a): * New install, choosing Catalan in the installer * I log in without doing any changes to the language in GDM * I start System Administration Language support * I choose English there * I log out * I log back in without doing any changes in the GDM language chooser * My session is half English and half Catalan due to LANGUAGE=en and LANG=ca_ES.utf8 (Firefox in Catalan, gnome-panel in English, gnome-menus in Catalan). Steps to reproduce (b): * Perform a full installation in English, as per http://testcases.qa.ubuntu.com/Install/NonEnglishLanguage#Installation%20Full%20Network%20Support * Go to System Administration Language Support * Install the Traditional Chinese language * Bring Traditional Chinese to the top of the list to become the main desktop language * Press the Apply System-wide... button * Reboot * When entering the session, you'll notice the desktop half translated in English, half in Chinese. The most noticeable parts shown in English are all the menus and Firefox. These applications seem to ignore the LANGUAGE variable * Running 'locale' on the terminal shows that LANG=en_US.UTF-8 and LANGUAGE=zh_K:en_US:en I understand that this might be a problem in each application, as they should give LANGUAGE preference. Rather than filing a bug in each app right now, would it not make more sense to ensure that at least the first locale in LANGUAGE, the one in LANG and LC_MESSAGES are the same? *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 270206 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/270206 Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This particular bug has already been reported and is a duplicate of bug 270206, so it is being marked as such. Please look at the other bug report to see if there is any missing information that you can provide, or to see if there is a workaround for the bug.
