[Bug 503372] Re: Evince doesn't retain settings in Lucid
There's a workaround, but it's another program - Okular. In synaptic install Okular. Once Okular is open press F7 to turn off the sidebar. Then go to Settings, Configure Okular, and remove the check next to Show hints and info messages. Next, in Nautilus right-click on any pdf. Click properties, then Open with, and click the radio button next to Okular and close. Finally open up firefox, go to edit, preferences, and click on applications. Next to PDF document pull down the menu and click use other. Click the pencil at the top left and paste into the new textbox /usr/bin/okular. Now any PDF you open in firefox, nautilus, or anywhere else should open in Okular without the sidebar. As a bonus you can use reviewing tools, which are a handy way to mark-up a pdf. -- Evince doesn't retain settings in Lucid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/503372 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 565451] Re: Does not automount hotplugged WALKMAN NWZ-E438F device
Ah, I have media_autorun_x_content_start_app = [x-content/software] media_autorun_x_content_ignore = [] Which is the default. These are usually set in your ~/.gconf/ files, which aren't (and can't even) be touched on upgrades. Also, I haven't seen this problem in other reports, so for now I have to assume that this is a local configuration problem only. Do you have some third-party software installed which might have done this? Perhaps you can try this in the guest session or a freshly created user? -- Does not automount hotplugged WALKMAN NWZ-E438F device https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/565451 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 569780] Re: Bad graphics in the upper bar
Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. It looks like the trouble is due to two applets not working properly (the black boxes with the red symbol inside), which appear to be the indicator-applet-session applet and something else (not sure what the one on the left is). [Bug 503372] Re: Evince doesn't retain settings in Lucid
I take it back. In PDFs without a table of contents, the above works. However, when there's a table of contents Okular shows it every time, and doesn't save even on a per-file basis. If anyone figures out a way to show nothing but the PDF itself please let me know. I appreciate the work of those who design Evince and Okular, but this is one situation where the newer method could drive academics slightly batty. :) -- Evince doesn't retain settings in Lucid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/503372 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 307019] Re: ecryptfs Private directory not mounted after changing password in users-admin
Yes, we have no way to avoid breaking eCryptfs if we don't have the original password. Anyway, if the admin was able to provide it, we could'nt use it because either we run 'passd' as root, and old password is not asked for, or we run it as a standard user, and changing password for someone else is not allowed. Best solution would be that a GUI asks the user for its old password on next login. For the error messages, please have a look at the permissions of the user's home dir. I don't think the eCryptfs issue could lock out an user *as long as its home dir isn't fully encrypted* (which you don't explain). So permissions may be the real problem here, not eCryptfs. [Bug 408417] Re: No option to log in remotely via XDMCP
I had this work, once, using pepper's instructions. Then I restarted my XMing session to switch from Window to Fullscreen, and never got it working again (without changing anything, going through all the restart/reboot/etc hoops). So I did a clean install on a virtual machine, with Lucid 10.4 rc, repeated pepper's steps, got the chooser to come up, closed down the x server, restarted, and same thing. So I rolled the virtual machine back, repeated pepper's steps, and it worked. Closed the x server, restarted, same thing. I don't know why it works that first time - but the problem appears to be that GDM is only listening on the udpv6 port: netstat -an | grep 177 osm...@lucidrc:~$ netstat -an | grep 177 udp6 0 0 :::177 :::* -- No option to log in remotely via XDMCP https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/408417 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 569523] Re: X Cursors Previews
Thank you for your bug report. The issue is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug the to the people writting the software (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME) ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Wishlist -- X Cursors Previews https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/569523 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 569481] Re: rhythmbox segfaults on startup
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding. ** Changed in: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- rhythmbox segfaults on startup https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/569481 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
