2010-05-03 Thread Chris Cheney
I wonder if the reason it works in Totem but not in PiTiVi is that
PiTiVi may not attempt to just play anyway after you can cancel the
additional search for codecs which it doesn't need while Totem may
attempt to play regardless.

[Bug 574212] [NEW] Nibbles - Unexpected Death

2010-05-03 Thread Luke Zeisset
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-games

Running Nibbles (gnibbles) 2.30.0 on Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid.

Number of human players: 1 (not tried multiple)
Number of AI players: tried up to 6
Playing game as normal.

I have experienced random deaths when:
1) No players, objects, or walls near me
2) Sometimes at the moment of eating an object.
3) When AI players eat a diamond (seemingly the consistent way to observe the
bug)

AI players seem to not be affected, even when there are no human

[Bug 559892] Re: rhythmbox tries to control apple's mighty mouse

2010-05-03 Thread Martin Pitt
So, RB does not actually try to talk to it as a music player, but it
seems the act of checking _whether_ it is an MTP player already
distracts the mouse.

Can you please do the following: Close RB, detach the mouse, run

  udevadm monitor --udev -e

then attach the mouse and let the output settle. Copypaste all output
(you probably have to scroll up). Now detach it again, open Rhythmbox,
press Enter some 10 times (so that you get enough free space in the
Terminal to see where the new output starts), attach the mouse again.
Let it settle, and copypaste all the new output.

Finally, please attach /var/log/kern.log and /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

Thanks!

[Bug 256749] Re: Unable to mount location -- Internal error: No mount object for mounted volume

2010-05-03 Thread Penny Wing
I was having the same problem with this error message.

Here's what I was able to do to solve it:

I went to System, then Administration, then Disk Utility, then clicked
on the drive, then clicked on the blue link that says: /media/disk

Pulls it right up and I was able to access all my files on that drive.
You can drag and drop them to your Places easily or copy them onto CD's.

Hope this helps =)

And I've only been on Ubuntu for 1 day ;)
Love this program, now to get rid of Windows =)

[Bug 572707] Re: gthumb freezes shortcut gimp

2010-05-03 Thread oddemirci
I got your point. I should have thought about that.

But, interestingly, on my machine the 0 key says
   gimp-remote %F

It does not work. And I don't have any idea what is gimp-remote. Because of
that, I created a hotkey like this
   gimp %F

That solves my problem. But gThumb is problematic. For example, when I
switch to gimp, I see high CPU, and when I check, it is because of
gThumb. Although I don't do anything with gThumb, it uses 80-90% CPU.

Thank you.

Re: [Bug 571725] Re: evince not open

Hello Richard,

Richard [2010-05-01 8:34 -]:
 open(/home/rmcgilli/.gnome2/evince/last_settings,
 O_WRONLY|O_CREAT|O_EXCL|O_LARGEFILE, 0666) = -1 EACCES (Permission denied)

That looks like a local problem, though. What's the output of

  ls -ld /home/rmcgilli/.gnome2/evince/last_settings

?

Home dir is encrypted so is on following filesystem type

This shouldn't make a difference; encryption should be totally
transparent wrt. file names and access permissions.

  gvfs-fuse-daemon on /export2/home/rmcgilli/.gvfs type fuse.gvfs-
fuse-daemon (rw,nosuid,nodev,user=rmcgilli)

This is unrelated.

[Bug 574231] [NEW] Indicator applet menu items networking, volume control, not accessible.

2010-05-03 Thread Sajjad
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

The Indicator Applet menu items including networking and volume control
has no identifier that Orca can read. It just says 'Icon' and 'Indicator
applet menu' respectively.

Test case:
1. Press Ctrl + Alt + Tab and navigate to Top Expanded Edge Panel.
2. Press Tab to navigate in the top panel until you hear Orca reading 'Icon'.
This is the network applet.

[Bug 574241] [NEW] cdrom randomly fails to mount in Lucid

2010-05-03 Thread ankspo71
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs

My data discs randomly don't mount. A reboot seems to help, but not
always. Eject also doesn't work correctly (it snaps shut immediately
after opening after burning). Recently K3B reported that my cdrom could
not be unmounted. I tried replacing my cd drive from a new drive from
another computer, but it didn't help so I continue to use the original.
I'm currently using Kubuntu Lucid, but I can confirm this occurs with
Ubuntu Lucid. I purchased a USB external cd burner as a temporary
solution and it appears to be uneffected by any symptom, so this might
only apply to internal cd drives. Another interesting problem is that I
can run the command 'sudo lshw' only one time, because it fails to
collect any data the second time. 'sudo lshw' will work again after a
reboot. Thanks.

in karmik or any other option), and if you are typing in other language, not
English and open new app, suppose terminal, so layout for the new app will be

[Bug 574253] [NEW] Power Management Preferences conflicts with screensaver preferences at sleep when inactive time

2010-05-03 Thread Jim
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

This bug can be regenerated b y setting the sleep time to a higher value
than the screen saver time.

It took me a while to actually find out that the reason my laptop was
going to blank screen was from the screen saver and not from the power
management. I kept on increasing the sleep time using power
management, but nothing happened until I realized there is another
variable being set by screensaver preferences. Users usually go to
power management to set this value. Having another variable controlled
by screensaver preferences is very confusing, especially when the
default screensaver is blank screen. Ubuntu needs to synchronize these
two processes.

Recommendation:
I strongly believe that Screensaver Preferences should be merged with Power
Management Preferences. The new UI should clearly let the user know that his
screen is going blank because Screensaver time is 10 minutes and the theme is
blank screen.

[Bug 574262] [NEW] Please backport to Karmic GDM fix for bug #463376

2010-05-03 Thread Eduardo Jose Moreira
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Hi, when time permits, could you please backport from Lucid to Karmic
GDM's patch for bug #463376?

The bug is about GDM's PostLogin/Default script.

In Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty) when you log in as, say, somename, you get
proper values inside /etc/PostLogin/Default for these vars.:

$USERNAME -- somename
$LOGNAME -- somename
$HOME -- /home/somename

But in Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic) you get instead these values:

$USERNAME -- gdm
$LOGNAME -- gdm
$HOME -- /var/lib/gdm

It seems that this is fixed in Ubuntu 10.04 too, but I haven't tested it
yet.

Having these vars. and others set up correctly for using them in the
script /etc/PostSession/Default is badly needed for admins that want to
clear $HOME upon login, for example in a shool computer lab (as is our
case here).

Bug #463376 is where the patch for Lucid was posted; bug #506972 is
where the request to backport to Karmic was originally done by Manuel
Iglesias.

[Bug 439448] Re: visual corruption affecting several panel applets

2010-05-03 Thread DGMcCloud
Same problem here after the upgrade from Karmic to Lucid. Sometimes I
have 2 sound icons where one of the icons should have been nm-applet.
Sometimes the area where the nm-applet icon should have been is empty,
but the notification area is still sized as if there is an icon and if
you aim correctly (there are one or 2 pixels shown) and right-click, you
actually get the nm-applet menu.

Removing the notification area and re-adding shows the correct icons
again (but this will only last until the next reboot). What also seems
to fix this issue is when you place the notification area more to the
right. The configuration 'notification area|indicator
applet|clock|indicator applet session' shows the behavior described in
this bug-report, but when I rearrange it to 'indicator
applet|notification area|clock|indicator applet session' the behavior
seems correct and I don't experience this issue.

This is a very annoying bug. Not being able to see a crucial icon as nm-applet,
with which you control your wireless connections, will not help people to
switch to Ubuntu and will not fix Ubuntu bug #1:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1
These kinds of bugs, how small they appear to be to an experienced user, are
not helping Ubuntu becoming the Linux for Human Beings that it wants to be.

[Bug 500417] Re: nautilus doesn't honor gnome theme

2010-05-03 Thread itsjustarumour
@Pedro - OK, perhaps this is a bug with gnome-settings-daemon, rather
than Nautilus. I didn't mean to appear rude, but I am not a developer,
so I'd don't know which it is (I'm just trying to be helpful, and to
report bugs and get issues fixed). If this is a bug in gnome-settings-
daemon, then I feel the bug should be passed on to somebody who deals
with gnome-settings-daemon, rather than just being marked as invalid.

@everybody - I'm still getting this bug on Lucid 10.04 final. It has
happened with my own icon and GTK2.0 themes, and also with the default
Lucid themes.

@Willjcroz - yup, thats exactly what happens to me...

@Ihotari - thanks for suggesting that workaround - I'll give it a try.

[Bug 500417] Re: nautilus doesn't honor gnome theme

2010-05-03 Thread itsjustarumour
@Pedro - just one last thing - I think there is a duplicate bug of this
one - see bug 516384 - there is some discussion on that bug thread,
which is marked as being a Nautilus bug - that is why I was thinking
this bug should be marked as a Nautilus bug as well - perhaps both bugs
should be marked as a gnome-settings-bug - what do you (and the other
folks watching this bug) think?

[Bug 572028] Re: Evince Segmentation Fault on Launch

2010-05-03 Thread Richard
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 571725 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/571725

Just done some more testing and if I move the evince directory to a none
fuse filesystem with a symlink , the last_settings file gets created

e.g.

lstat64(/home/rmcgilli/.gnome2/evince/last_settings, 0xbfbc753c) = -1 ENOENT
(No such file or directory)
open(/home/rmcgilli/.gnome2/evince/last_settings,
O_WRONLY|O_CREAT|O_EXCL|O_LARGEFILE, 0666) = 9
fstat64(9, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=0, ...}) = 0
close(9) = 0
lstat64(/home/rmcgilli/.gnome2/evince/last_settings, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644,
st_size=0, ...}) = 0

Quick look around and a bug(44886)has previously been reported with fuse
2.4 and O_WRONLY|O_CREAT , but was fixed; so wonder if this is a
regression; will see if I can find the bug.

However, this means it's not an evince bug; but a fuse bug.

Can we unlink this bug from 571725 as they are not the same bug.

2010-05-03 Thread Didier Roche
Hum, that's weird, I can't reproduce your issue there.

I have tried even having a ~/.gnome2/evince directory, without the
last_settings file, and evince opens silently and create it :/
I don't have also your EggSMClient warning on the command line, not sure how to
effectively debug that TBH.

[Bug 574288] [NEW] Existing Sent email does not respond to Apply Filters

2010-05-03 Thread bwallum
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Scenario: Set up a outgoing mail filter based on an existing sent email
using the recipient criteria. Create a new folder under Sent to receive
the filtered email. Select All the Sent folder emails. Apply filters.
The emails expected to be filtered stay in the Sent folder and have to
be manually moved to the 'filtered' folder. HOWEVER all subsequent sent
emails that match the filter criteria are correctly moved to the
'filtered' folder.

Compare the above with setting up filters on incoming mail. If a filter
is set up based on an existing incoming email then when Select All -
Apply Filters is used the existing emails that match the filter criteria
are correctly moved to the 'filtered' folder.
