[Bug 520118] Re: thunar select freezes after using mouse to select folders (detailed view mode)

2010-05-28 Thread slumbergod
Solved. After a day's effort searching for the cause I found it. In my
desperate attempts to get the detailed thunar view working I tried the
xubuntu-dev ppa. Unfortunately, it updated more files than I realised,
and this was compounded by then adding xubuntu's proposed updates.
Effectively, I'd ended up with a mish-mash of versions for various
files.

ppa-purge corrected the updated packages then proposed updated the newly
restored files.

ppa-purge has just moved to the top of my list of most useful tools.

[Bug 572942] Re: Cannot burn an audio project

2010-05-28 Thread Uqbar
It actually took more than a few hors to have the package available. Anyway
...
The fix worked for me: I could burn an audio CD project starting from 48KHz
16bit WAVs.
I'll try later with a CD copy as well.

What is still puzzling me is that in the plugin window (Modify--Plugins) I
have the following:
1. CD/DVD creation folder: enabled and greyed
2. audio2cue: enabled and greyed
3. cdda2wav: disabled and greyed
4. cdrdao: disabled and greyed
5. cdrecord: disabled and greyed
6. dvd+rw format: enabled and greyed
7. dvdauthor: enabled and greyed
8. dvdcss: enabled and greyed
9. genisoimage: enabled and greyed
A. growisofs. enabled and greyed
B. mkisofs: disabled and greyed
C. readcd: disabled and greyed
D. readom: disabled and greyed
E. transcode: enabled and greyed
F. transcode2vob: disabled and greyed
10. vcdimager: enabled and greyed

Is it all right?

[Bug 586717] [NEW] unknown key verbose messages

Public bug reported:

in the gnome-power-manager verbose console:

2010-05-28 Thread Igor Wojnicki
It seems that it is fixed upstream (gnome 2.30), I have no opportunity
right now to test it though.

For previous ubuntu releases a workaround is possible, similar to n3hima
soluition. Just add the following line, before 'exit 0' in
/etc/gdm/PostSession/Default:

su $LOGNAME -c killall -r '^evolution-data-server.*'

It will terminate the evolution-data-server process.

[Bug 580969] Re: Since upgrade to 10.04 search in Nautilus does not work correctly any more

2010-05-28 Thread Igor
I have made fresh install and it worked as expected: I press search in
Nautilus and makes search in current folder and it's subfolders. Then I
have noticed tracker was not installed. So I have installed tracker.

Funny enough first couple times it was searching as expected, then old
problems started. Eve worse, I get error, if I try manually select the
location. See attached picture1.png.

So end result, Search from Nautilus does not work with Tracker at all
for me.

I have made an update yesterday, see picture2.png, but it did not help.

[Bug 508632] Re: [FFe] Toggle button for Nautilus location field gone

2010-05-28 Thread Andre
I really like this new default in Nautilus. If I want to type an address
manually, I just press Ctrl+L. People who want breadcrumbs as default
just call 'gconf-editor' and change the value for
'always_use_location_entry' in /apps/nautilus/preferences/ (see comment
#2). I think this change in Nautilus makes it even easier for people who
are new to computers. As they get more advanced, they will discover
Ctrl+L listed under 'Go, but the usual user will be happy with the
breadcrumps. Just my two pennies worth.

[Bug 586752] [NEW] No way to get rid of Open Rythmbox or Open F-spot bars

2010-05-28 Thread David Stansby
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Steps to Reproduce: Plug in a camera with pictures, or a media player
with music, and open nautilus

What happens: A bar appears, asking you if you want to open F-spot or

What I expect to happen: I would expect there to be an icon on the bar
that lets you close it.

[Bug 67476] Re: Dialogs of background applications pop up in the foreground

2010-05-28 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Unfortunately, most of the comments on this bug report -- including
those by jmspeex, ChrisH, Gok6tm, user2037, Michael, Thomas Folz-
Donahue, Greg K Nicholson, and avdd -- have nothing to do with the bug.

This bug report, like the Gnome bug report it links to, is specifically
about dialogs belonging to background windows. It is not about focus
stealing prevention in general. If you have suggestions for improving
the focus stealing prevention algorithm, I suggest you work together on
a specification with a flow chart for how it should work. Include a
description of how it would differ from the existing algorithm, and
examples of how it would do better. If you don't know what the existing
algorithm is, research that first.

Sorry (or not) to say, but I cannot reproduce the error anymore. I've
done some cleanup with my panels (removed the Top one). The only applets
I got rid of were Menu Bar (I use Main Menu instead - because it
fits better) and Indicator Session Applet (when removed Main Menu
gains additional buttons to logout, reboot or power off). I would
recommend it to you as a temporary workaround (if you don't bother

[Bug 495403] Re: Do not raise windows or dialogs without user input

2010-05-28 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
This bug is invalid, because sometimes when a new window opens, you
absolutely want it to take focus from whichever window had focus before.
A simple example is launching an application: if you start a Web browser
and it takes only two seconds to open, it would be frustrating if it
wasn't focused when it did open.

The Metacity, Compiz, and kwin window managers each have a focus
stealing prevention algorithm which tries to guess whether it's
appropriate to focus a new window or not. As I wrote in bug 67476, if
you have suggestions for improving this algorithm, I suggest you work
with other interested people (such as those subscribed to the Brainstorm
idea) on a specification with a flow chart for how it should work.
Include a description of how it would differ from the existing
algorithm, and examples of how it would do better. If you don't know
what the existing algorithm is, that should be your first step. Once
you're done, posting to the Ayatana list would be a good way of getting
your specification reviewed.

[Bug 495403] Re: Do not raise windows or dialogs without user input

2010-05-28 Thread Triqui
Ok, thanks. I will.
But I think you haven't read my posts here.

First. If I have a window opened and it's focused I don't want any other
window to move in front, no matter whether I'm typing or interacting
with it or not (maybe just reading something).

Second. If I do something to open a new window, that one should be
focused. You are right. But, if after I launched that window, I click on
some other window, the newly selected window should get the focus and
keep it. No matter if the window I just launched was already opened or
still opening.

[Bug 508632] Re: [FFe] Toggle button for Nautilus location field gone

2010-05-28 Thread Nandox7
Well I was a bit annoyed with this as well until I found the CTRL+l.
Still the process is not consistent.

If you notice in the file browser popup there is still the icon to open the
location bar.
That actually even behaves in a much more odd way, instead of converting the
breadcrumbs to address bar it
actually creates a location bar under the breadcrumbs.

Honestly I'd rather have there a ugly icon than no icon at all.

[Bug 586775] [NEW] default keyboard-layout isn't applied

2010-05-28 Thread Pippo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

I have two keyboard layouts:
- usa - colemak
- german - no dead keys

Some Problems:
1. Unfortunately the default option (colemak) is ignored and I have to switch
by hand each time I reboot.
2. sometimes it switches back to 'german' opening a new window (although this
is 'un-checked')
3. After changing settings to systemwide, it seems to work fine but at the
gdm-password-promt the keyboard-layout is german (although it says in the bar
at the bottom 'usa, colemak')

Cheers, Phil

The more my system stays up, the more memory Nautilus uses.
Currently, nautilus uses 145mb of RAM. Two hours ago it was 142. More than
10 hours ago, it was less than 120.
Even when I don't use the system, the memory goes up. Currently I'm running

After killall nautilus, it goes back to _just_ 9.6mb!!

[Bug 495403] Re: Do not raise windows or dialogs without user input

2010-05-28 Thread Triqui
It is better written here:
http://git.gnome.org/browse/metacity/tree/doc/how-to-get-focus-right.txt

  1) If the window takes a while to launch and the user starts
interacting with a different application, the new window should
 not take focus.
  2) If the window that will appear was not launched by the user
(error dialogs, instant messaging windows, etc.), then the window
should not take focus when it appears.

This is want I want. The thing is that I cannot get it working.

experiencing the same issue, and disabling Metacity's compositing

rhythmbox and choose burn cd, a brasero window was shown with the
selected tracks and options to burn those to CD, it also works fine if
you open the tmp project (located on /tmp/brasero-tmp-project-) with

Re: [Bug 586472] Re: extract (database) confused by medley

2010-05-28 Thread Andrew Snyder
actually, I did the Lucid test on a different system that I hadn't used
rhythmbox on before.

an additional data point- I also loaded a CD sampler (wxpn.org) that did
have different artists, and that worked as expected. Maybe the import
function needs a prompt to choose between disks with multiple artists
and tracks with multiple tunes?

[Bug 586819] [NEW] Gedit spell check isn't performed in C block comments beginning with '/**'

2010-05-28 Thread Oni
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

If I write this in gedit (as C code):

/** hello worlf */
/* hello worlf */

the wrong word 'worlf' isn't underlined in red in the first case (if the
block comment begins with '/**').

This bug goes away if I set the snippet as C++ code (in that case both
'worlf' are correctly underlined).

[Bug 585763] Re: gnome-panel partially blocks the window manager?

2010-05-28 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 218620] Re: rhythmbox problem opening files from file browser

2010-05-28 Thread PrototypeX29A
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 301875 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/301875

Why is the bug invalid, is there any progress on this issue? I exeprience it
with Rhythmbox 0.12.8 on lucid lynx.
Rhythmbox only seems to play songs which are already in its database, otherwise
it will just pause/unpause the current song.

[Bug 419143] Re: Printing from evince (and perhaps other GTK apps) to PostScript printers is broken

2010-05-28 Thread steba
Just tried to print a 100 page PDF to HP LaserJet 4100DTN network
printer accessible via CUPS. Data LED was blinking for some minutes,
then the job just disappeared. I wouldn't consider this issue solved...
