[Bug 520118] Re: thunar select freezes after using mouse to select folders (detailed view mode)
Solved. After a day's effort searching for the cause I found it. In my desperate attempts to get the detailed thunar view working I tried the xubuntu-dev ppa. Unfortunately, it updated more files than I realised, and this was compounded by then adding xubuntu's proposed updates. Effectively, I'd ended up with a mish-mash of versions for various files. ppa-purge corrected the updated packages then proposed updated the newly restored files. ppa-purge has just moved to the top of my list of most useful tools. -- thunar select freezes after using mouse to select folders (detailed view mode) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/520118 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gtk+2.0 in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 67476] Re: Dialogs of background applications pop up in the foreground
Unfortunately, most of the comments on this bug report -- including those by jmspeex, ChrisH, Gok6tm, user2037, Michael, Thomas Folz- Donahue, Greg K Nicholson, and avdd -- have nothing to do with the bug. This bug report, like the Gnome bug report it links to, is specifically about dialogs belonging to background windows. It is not about focus stealing prevention in general. If you have suggestions for improving the focus stealing prevention algorithm, I suggest you work together on a specification with a flow chart for how it should work. Include a description of how it would differ from the existing algorithm, and examples of how it would do better. [Bug 495403] Re: Do not raise windows or dialogs without user input
This bug is invalid, because sometimes when a new window opens, you absolutely want it to take focus from whichever window had focus before. A simple example is launching an application: if you start a Web browser and it takes only two seconds to open, it would be frustrating if it wasn't focused when it did open. The Metacity, Compiz, and kwin window managers each have a focus stealing prevention algorithm which tries to guess whether it's appropriate to focus a new window or not. As I wrote in bug 67476, if you have suggestions for improving this algorithm, I suggest you work with other interested people (such as those subscribed to the Brainstorm idea) on a specification with a flow chart for how it should work. Include a description of how it would differ from the existing algorithm, and examples of how it would do better. If you don't know what the existing algorithm is, that should be your first step. Once you're done, posting to the Ayatana list would be a good way of getting your specification reviewed. -- Do not raise windows or dialogs without user input https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/495403 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Ok, thanks. I will. But I think you haven't read my posts here. First. If I have a window opened and it's focused I don't want any other window to move in front, no matter whether I'm typing or interacting with it or not (maybe just reading something). Second. actually, I did the Lucid test on a different system that I hadn't used rhythmbox on before. an additional data point- I also loaded a CD sampler (wxpn.org) that did have different artists, and that worked as expected. [Bug 585763] Re: gnome-panel partially blocks the window manager?
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). Thanks! When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected.
