Of course. When and if you want. For information: you can switch user without terminating you session. And unlike MS-Windows, it really works. [Bug 586012] Re: [Maverick] XFCE system tray became unusable after upgrade to libgtk2.0-0 2.21.0-1ubuntu2
** Description changed: After upgrade to libgtk2.0-0 2.21.0-1ubuntu2, XFCE system tray stopped working. No icons are visible, and CPU load is 100% while tray is displayed (task manager attributes most of this load to X server). Workaround is to downgrade libgtk2.0-0 to version 2.20.1-0ubuntu1. Architecture: amd64 Linux 2.6.34-3-generic xserver-xorg 1:7.5+5ubuntu1 xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.9.1-3ubuntu5 libxfce4util4 4.6.2-1ubuntu1 libxfcegui4-4 4.6.4-1 libexo-0.3-0 0.3.107-1ubuntu1 xfce4-panel 4.6.4-1 WORKAROUND: When installing Maverick Meerkat, the systray appears in the middle of the screen, with three icons flashing constantly. This prevents the installation from the live environment, and makes the desktop pretty much unusable after any installation completes. To use the system after starting, open Applications - System - System Monitor. It will take a few seconds to minutes to open due to those flashing windows/icons. Hilight and kill the following Processes: gnome-volume-control-applet nm-applet update0-notifier + xfce4-power-manager Now you should be able to use the system as usual until the next login. -- [Maverick] XFCE system tray became unusable after upgrade to libgtk2.0-0 2.21.0-1ubuntu2 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/586012 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gtk+2.0 in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 363245] Re: gtk_main leaks a file descriptor every time the main loop is run if threads have been initialized
Two things seem to be getting confused here. 1) The Lucid version performs better than any of the previously packaged versions. So, I'd like the fixes which are present in the Lucid package to be backported to Karmic and Hardy. 2) Separately, the Lucid version still leaks file descriptors, probably because of some reference cycle which gobject can't deal with. [Bug 433500] Re: gvfsd memory leak
I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 64bit and I have the same problem that most of you have already described. My workstation has 4 Gb of ram and I usually have the swap partitions disabled, I only activate them if I really need to. I also have my workstation on 24/7 and a lot of services (like mysqld, sshd, apache, virtualbox, ...) running on it 24/7. I can't figure out the exact pattern which causes the memory leak in gvfsd, but I don't use network shares, neither NFS nor samba. I do use the shared folders feature of virtualbox, but I'm not convinced that the shared folders are really samba or nfs shares. So as far as I see the issue it isn't just related to sharing. In my case the issue must have to do something with usb memory sticks, which are of course automatically mounted by gvfsd once inserted, but even if they are removed after being first unmounted, gvfsd will start eating up all the memory it can get. If there is anything that I could do to provide useful information please tell me how to do so. -- gvfsd memory leak https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/433500 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 588550] Re: gvsfd-metadata segfault in live 10.04
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
