[Bug 536766] Re: Personal file sharing preferences dialog does not offer to install needed packages

2010-06-06 Thread WolfRage
I have some questions for the developer of gnome-share. So are we not going
to be using Samba in the future to share files? If so will the method using
Apache to share files still be able to share with windows systems? Is the
method using Apache as advanced as the Samba project or are we recreating the
wheel here?
I ask because my attempt to share files between two Ubuntu machines failed
so I took the route that I posted here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1502265
My method does provide the added benefit of being able to exchange with
windoz systems and even virtual windoz systems.

[Bug 467668] Re: [regression-release] Neither compiz nor metacity nor nautilus are run at start

2010-06-06 Thread Leo
Hi Doug, Thanks for helping with the tests.
It is hard to get ultimate conclusions as you have a more complex setting with
awn as well. It may be related to deeper bugs in the same direction, namely
lack of backward compatibility in reading user's home.
Yet for most users who had enabled desktop effects, upgraded and now don't have
windows borders, it may be inside .config or at most {.config,.compiz} as Rob's
post suggests.

[Bug 590214] Re: Quadrapassel has no sound

2010-06-06 Thread jeffbronks
Correction: I wrongly stated above that the problem with Quadrapassel
has existed since Lucid launch day, but I didn't install Quadrapassel
until later. The timestamp on the Quadrapassel program file on my
system is 2010-04-13.

[Bug 311982] Re: Array too big when printing large image

2010-06-06 Thread graemev
Might I suggest that ghostscript report an error to the effect input is
invalid (64k limit)
So that the various filters which MIGHT generate this bad input can be
highlighted
Rather than ghostscript appearing to be the cause of the problem. I've just
hit this on an up-to-date
Debian system ...where the print server runs.
(I'll now go trawling the Debain bug reports ...see if I have patch)

[Bug 581931] Re: Extra notification when increasing LCD brightness

2010-06-06 Thread eltro5000
Hi.

For me the notification only appears when I reach full brightness and eg. press
the hotkey again or even worse when I hold it down it won't even stop
appearing.
This is very annoying when you try to watch a video.

Followed the instructions at the above link. Thanks Pedro.

Not getting anywhere, so I'm going to remove the elementary ppas and see
if I can reinstall the original lucid package, which also segfaulted
last time with a bug that has been reported. Sorry about this, doesn't
seem to have dbg-sym available.

I just looked at apci_listen and I saw that for every
video LCDD 0086
hotkey ATKD 001f 00d3
event (which is fired when you press the inc. button and when it is at full
brightness) one notification is triggered.

Hope this helps.

[Bug 434001] Re: password widget focusing not consistent

2010-06-06 Thread Jon Thackray
I am able to reproduce this consistently without touching the trackpad.
All you seem to need is several login name possibilities. Click on the
top one, and the cursor appears in the password field but the pointer is
still elsewhere. Start typing the password and observe that part way
through the focus is lost and your input goes nowhere. Normally you
don't notice until your attempted login fails.

[Bug 555177] Re: totem crashed with SIGSEGV in g_object_notify()

2010-06-06 Thread lariamat
The problem still exists in ubuntu-10.04.
It can be triggered in rhythmbox, banshee and other music players by fast
scrolling up and down on the volume button. Sometimes the crash is coming after
a few seconds and sometimes the player crashes at once.

[Bug 590374] [NEW] Unable to select GtkMenu item above the current one with the cursor if the current one has a submenu

2010-06-06 Thread Sebastian Keller
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce this:
1. click on Applications
2. place your cursor over some item in the middle with a submenu
3. wait for the submenu to open
4. move the cursor up to select the item above (in the applications menu, not
the submenu)

Result:
The old item remains selected while the cursor is hovering the item above

Additional Information:
You are able to select the item by clicking or by using the keyboard. Also
selecting the item above the current one works again without clicking or using
the keyboard. All GtkMenus seem to be affected.

[Bug 589442] Re: drives mounted on the desktop are displayed unordered

2010-06-06 Thread Sense Hofstede
Thank you for helping with making Ubuntu and its file (and desktop) manager
Nautilus better by reporting this bug. I'm accepting this bug as a paper cut
and opening a report upstream.
I set the status to Wishlist in Ubuntu because it doesn't prevent users from
using the system properly.

[Bug 501207] Re: sound-juicer, rhythmbox, nautilus crash at audio CD insertion

2010-06-06 Thread snircher
Pixel_juice, was it the recent kernel upgrade that fixed things? I have
actually managed to play audio CDs with VLC, and it no longer crashes
nautilus. Sound Juicer is still not working, and Rhythmbox refuses to
open when a disc is in the cd drive. Brasero still crashes too. I'm
curious how you got it to work? I have:

Linux desktop 2.6.32-22-generic #35-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 1 14:18:25 UTC
2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux

and the exact same DVR-218L.

I am currently downloading the newest build of the kernel so hopefully
that will fix things. I've been waiting a long time for this.

[Bug 384062] Re: evince-thumbnailer with a 100% CPU usage

2010-06-06 Thread Dan
I've encountered the same problem. I have Ubuntu 8.04 (yes, I will upgrade to
10.04 soon). The only application I was using at the time was Disk Usage
Analyzer. So it seems the bug is not related to PS or PDF files as I have seen
above.
I've just noticed that evince-thumbnailer is taking 100% CPU usage. This is to
confirm that the bug exists at least in Ubuntu 8.04 with all the upgrades until
to this date (6th of June 2010).

[Bug 590254] Re: Have to press mute twice for it to work

2010-06-06 Thread Vish
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut
should be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu install, that
affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be
addressed as part of this project.

-This is a bug and not a papercut
For further information about papercuts criteria, please read
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut.

Don't worry though, this bug has been marked as Invalid only in the

[Bug 590396] [NEW] f-spot crashes on specific picture(s)

2010-06-06 Thread coffeemonk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

f-spot consistently crashes on a few specific pictures in my collection.

Steps to Reproduce (in browse mode):
1) browse to nearby the crashy picture.
2) expose the tag bar
3a) select with mouse the picture next to the crashy picture, move selection to
crashy picture with arrow keys
OR
3b) directly select crashy picture with mouse

Steps to Reproduce (in view/edit mode):
1) browse to nearby the crashy picture
2a) enter view/edit mode by double-clicking picture next to crashy picture,
then move to crashy picture using arrow key
OR
2b) double-click directly on crashy picture to enter in view/edit mode

A few other things that trigger this crash:
1) expose tag bar when multiple pictures (including crashy one) are selected in
browse mode.
2) select multiple pictures (including crashy one) when tag bar is exposed in
browse mode.

I just tried running Sync Catalog to Photos and thought that had fixed the
issue for one of the images, but it crashed on another image, then crashed on
the original image again after restarting f-spot.

I have built 0.6.2 from source, and it is also exhibiting this crash
behavior.

I will attempt to attach a couple of the crashy pictures to this report.

[Bug 590327] [NEW] Empathy contact messages are messed up

2010-06-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This is a really interesting one.

1.You can see in Screenshot.png that I point to a contact who has
something like És az Isten békessége etc. written in her status. But
the notification bubble has nothing.

2.In Screenshot-1.png you can see the result of pointing to the contact
above her and then setting the pointer back to this first contact. The
message of the second contact (e.g. Mire lehetel képes, ha etc.) is
copied in the first contact's bubble.

This doesn't happen with each one of my contacts in the list and it's
not constrained to this one either, so it's weird.

Any ideas?

I use Empathy 2.30.1 on an Ubuntu 10.04 machine.

[Bug 590411] [NEW] Unmounting USB drive with Disk Mounter applet doesn't remove the device from /media

2010-06-06 Thread J.M. Peng Hardin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

System Specs:
Ubuntu release: 10.04
gnome-applets version: 2.30.0-0ubuntu2

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Add the Disk Mounter applet to a panel
2. Mount a USB drive to your computer
3. Click the drive on the applet, then select Unmount

EXPECTED RESULTS
4. The drive is unmounted from your system
5. Running ls /media in a terminal confirms that the device is removed from
your system

ACTUAL RESULTS
4. The drive is unmounted from your system
5. Running ls /media in a terminal indicates that the device is in fact still
attached to your system
6. Attempts at removing the drive via sudo through either a terminal or
nautilus results in the return of an error stating Error removing file: Device
or resource busy

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I've recently started noticing that when I mount my iriver E100 DMP it is
mounted with an increasing number of underscores in the label. After finding
Bug #101845 Automounted Volumes mount points change I opened /media in a sudo
nautilus window to try to delete the E100 drive and all of the newer instances
I was able to remove all of them with the exception of E100__, this
morning's instance. When I try to delete it I get Error removing file: Device
or resource busy, even with the device itself is no longer connected to my
computer. When I reconnected my E100 to my system it mounted as /media/E100 so
at least manually deleting the mount points allows me to get back to the proper
identity.

When I unmount the drive via nautilus the mount point is completely
removed, so the issue seems to be in the applet itself.

I believe the problem initially appeared after updating awn-applets-
python-core-trunk to version 0.4.1~bzr1311-1.10.04 from the AWN Testing
Team's PPA, although closing AWN does not allow me to manually remove
E100__ either.

[Bug 590436] [NEW] random crashes (seg fault) when deleting files from NFS

2010-06-06 Thread ericc
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

From time to time (sometimes multiple times in a raw), Nautilus crashed
when deleting files from a NFS folder. I do not know how to get more
information (no more information when starting Natulius from a
terminal), but I can see errors with dmesg, like [ 1236.135826]
nautilus[4347]: segfault at 18 ip 004cf79e sp 7fffcddf1d10
error 4 in nautilus[40+1b6000].

The behaviour is totally reproducible: select multiple files, delete them and
sometimes Nautilus crashes, always at the end of the on-going processing (files
have been actually deleted).

Same problem with NFS3 or NFS4 shares. The client (my ubuntu 10.04 for
which I'm filling this bug) is the only client.

Looking at the attachments in this bug report, I noticed that one was

the patch flag for it. In the future keep in mind the definition of a
patch. You can learn more about what qualifies as a patch at

[Bug 590462] [NEW] In a PDF document, the mailto link does not work

2010-06-06 Thread PArnal
Public bug reported:

I have Thunderbird as mail client.
Clicking a mailto link in Firefox opens correctly Thunderbird.

But in an pdf document opened by Evince, clicking a mailto link leads to the
following error :

Strange because, I can see :

patr...@grosbill:~$ ls -l /usr/lib/thunderbird-3.0.4/thunderbird

and I can run this command from a terminal.

http://openartisthq.org/debian/lucid/libgtk1.2-common_1.2.10-18.1build2_all.deb

and then dpkg'd -i all of them. After that I could run OALD, though I
could not work out the openartisthq.org repo url.

[Bug 581843] Re: after upgrade from hardy, evolution does not display addresses

2010-06-06 Thread brian r
The contact edit fields in the Evolution UI don't seem to support the
notion of preferred designations among field sets of the same type and I
suspect that the underlying storage schema doesn't either. However this
is no reason to mess up vcard imports with fields that have them. It
should skip over them gracefully. At the moment it seems to be treating
these as some kind of custom fields and naming them 'pref'.

[Bug 467668] Re: [regression-release] Neither compiz nor metacity nor nautilus are run at start

2010-06-06 Thread Doug Morse
@Leo

Yes, correct. My apologies, I misspoke. What I should have wrote is:
What we can be relatively certain of now is that, at a minimum,
something within the $HOME/.config folder is implicated as the source of
the problem, and at a maximum the source does not extend beyond $HOME.

I can say that I don't think that, at least in my case, it's limited to
just .config and .compiz -- not long ago (albeit Karmic, not yet Lucid),
I move .config, .compiz elsewhere, and also remove .cached, .gconfd, and
a few other reasonable candidate cache / session type files/folders from
console session (tty1) and then logged in again via gdm (tty7). No joy,
still the same problems. Again, just FYI, in case it helps.

I expect that, in my and more complicated cases, the solution may simply
be to create a new, empty homedir, reconfigure all GUI components again
manually, and then repopulate homedir with data and carefully repopulate
other dotfiles and dotdirs (i.e., one at a time or in small groups) so
as not to re-introduce the entanglement. Just not something that I
have time to do right now and I am holding out hope that, once it's
determined what the problem is within .config and/or .compiz, the
information from that discovery might help me hunt down what's going on
in my homedir. Right now, for me, the problem seems to be too much of a
complex and complicated interaction.

[Bug 580755] Re: Login screen locks up; mouse keyboard are disabled

2010-06-06 Thread Garry Leach
I tried another idea:

I thought that, since the lock-up occurs during the sign-on process, I
could bypass that stage by changing login to log me in automatically.

A little while after completing the boot menu, The message, as in
comment #2 above, appeared (There is a problem with the configuration
server. (/usr/lib/libconf2-4/gconf-sanity-check-2 exited with status
256).

I don't know whether the keyboard was locked at that stage, as when I
pressed enter nothing seemed to happen for a while (I think that the
OK button may have indicated a click; the message stayed on the screen
for a fair while). But eventually it disappeared, the desktop was
displayed.

However, the mouse keyboard were locked, so I could not use the PC.

Regards, Garry.

[Bug 589012] Re: totem won't do progressive download for flv videos

2010-06-06 Thread bgruber
It does the progressive download for me with the plugin.

For what video? How do you know it's one in an FLV container? Totem's
YouTube plugin does not, as far as I can tell, allow you to choose which
format you get, except indirectly by setting your connection speed. I
notice that when I set my connection speed to 512, it won't do
progressive download on any of the videos I select, but when I set it to
Intranet/LAN, it does. It picks fmt=5 (an FLV container) when set to
512, and fmt=18 (an mp4 container) when set to Intranet.

As an example: the first URL is what I get in totem when I set my
connection speed to intranet and do a youtube search for tron. The
second is the first result when I set my connection speed to 512 Kbps.
The only difference is the fmt=18 at the end. The first one buffers and
plays almost instantly, while the second one does not.

http://www.youtube.com/get_video?video_id=-3ODe9mqoDEt
=vjVQa1PpcFP9ODzDI-Q1VYwCgPGh86toYtHlHFGtGFg%3Dfmt=18

http://www.youtube.com/get_video?video_id=-3ODe9mqoDEt=vjVQa1PpcFOK2hVl0QlGv6WQBgkJznali8MnU4_ZXxo%3D

In any case, the bug is confirmed upstream.

2010-06-06 Thread wensveen
Couldn't we 'fix' this bug by implementing the nspluginwrapper /
GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS workaround, and then open another bug to track the
real issue. That would help most people in that they get a properly
working flash plugin.

BTW, the upstream bug report by Anders has a priority of None. How
they can fail to see this issue eludes me. Also, it seems he didn't test
on youtube or the link you provided, and I have noticed that some flash
video players don't exhibit this problem, and the problem is not
consistent even then (see my comment #61).
