[Bug 597556] [NEW] Cannot complete Empathy add account wizard

2010-06-23 Thread Gabriel Ng
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

Description:Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Release:10.04
empathy:
  Installed: 2.30.1-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 2.30.1-0ubuntu1

500 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages

For some reason, Empathy lost all my IM accounts (MSN, Gtalk, ICQ) one
day.

I tried to re-add them via Edit-Accounts. The Welcome to Empathy
screen opened up and I chose Yes, I'll enter my account details now
option.

On the Enter your account details page, I selected MSN and entered in
my MSN account info. I chose the No, that's all for now option and
clicked Forward.

Next came the Please enter personal details page. No matter if I
selected the I don't want to enable this feature for now option or
not, clicking on Apply the first time did nothing.

After a second click on Apply, the An error occurred screen showed
up with the message The error message was: Applying already in
progress. After waiting for around half a minute, the page showed The
error message was: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include:
the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security
policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network
connection was broken.

I tried this multiple times with adding different IM accounts (i.e.
Gtalk, ICQ), all with the same results. Hence I wasn't able to add any
accounts in Empathy.

Could you please re-evaluate if this can be part of the papercuts

[Bug 597551] [NEW] Places menu would be more practical if it shows the disk space and a remove button

2010-06-23 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Places menu would be more practical if it shows the disk space and a
remove button.

This functionalities are integrated in almost all mainstream GUI OS in
the form of a bar (Dolphin in KDE applies it), and a button on the right
side of all removable media showed on the Places Menu can be innovative,
practical, efficient, geeky but fashion, and I think it isn't too hard
to implement ;) Don't you think that?

[Bug 597551] Re: Places menu would be more practical if it shows the disk space and a remove button

2010-06-23 Thread Vish
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut
should be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu install, that
affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be
addressed as part of this project.

- This is a feature request and not a papercut.
For further information about papercuts criteria, please read
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut.

Don't worry though, this bug has been marked as Invalid only in the
papercuts project.

This bug is an upstream one and it would be quite helpful if somebody
experiencing it could send the bug the to the people writing the software. You
can learn more about how to do this for various upstreams at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream.
Once submitted upstream , do report back here with the upstream bug number.
Thanks in advance!

[Bug 567219] Re: After last updates evince become very slow to open PDF documents

2010-06-23 Thread Sebastian Scherer
I can confirm this problem: Starting evince even without loading any
document takes up to several minutes. The same is true for any other
action like loading a document or closing evince again.

I have attached a valgrind log of evince being started and closed
obtained using the following command:

G_SLICE=always-malloc G_DEBUG=gc-friendly  valgrind -v --tool=memcheck
--leak-check=full --num-callers=40 --log-file=valgrind.log
/usr/bin/evince

I am also running the 64 bit version of Ubuntu 10.04 on a machine with
an Intel integrated graphics chip:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)

[Bug 597581] [NEW] Switching users does not work in 10.4

2010-06-23 Thread garth ubuntu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

In Ubuntu 10.4 the Switch From ... option does not work, when I
select that option it prompts me for my password and eventually puts up
an error message as follows

Unable to start new display

The name org.gnome.DisplayManager was not provided by any .service
files

However I remain in the same account I started out in.

To achieve the switch of users I have to log out and then log in as the
other user.

Bilal has responded to me (in Launchpad) that it looks like a Dbus bug and I
should report it - which I have, Thiago then responded and said it must be a
gdm or Ubuntu bug any takers?

Thanks.

To ThomasNovin : same here, I lost all my printers when commenting out

among them 2 HPs. It seems that the proposed workaround is incomplete in

[Bug 529696] Re: brasero can't copy audio cd (useless error message)

2010-06-23 Thread eden6000
I don't mean to be offensive to anyone, my aim is to be constructive, this is
the preamble...I wanted to say that I personally have solved the problem taking
cdrdao ver. 1.23 from a puppy linux forum and brutally copying into /usr/bin;
now brasero doesn't complain anymore that the plugin is old, and I've been able
to copy a data cd with no problem. BUT let me say: THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE!
Don't get me wrong, but we can't have programmers that spend their precious
time making a fancy cube rotate, AND THE DEFAULT BURNING APPLICATION DOESN'T
COPY A CD! this bug (and there are many others duplicate) was opened in
February! I am not a programmer, but I think that essential bugs like this MUST
be solved in hours! You have to investigate WHY brasero complains, why it asks
for the libraries? ok, but if giving it a new library solves the problem, then
go for it! Tell Ubuntu maintainers to pull in this new cdrdao and everything
works! Then you'll take your time to investigate, but in the meanwhile the
newbie won't go back to windows because he can't copy a cd! You'll agree with
me that bugs like this are frustrating, you go to your friend telling him to
try this marvelous Linux that is ages forward his windows and when he tries to
copy a cd he can't! Come on, it's not possible! Ubuntu is simple, it lets you
do by default not tons of things, but they are essential things, at least these
ones MUST be perfect.
p.s.: I still haven't found a solution for the other bug (from my point of view
essential too), the one that blanked dvds are not recognized by brasero (but
are by gnomebaker, for example).

2010-06-23 Thread garth ubuntu
I can't switch user from the Unlock screen dialog box (which is what
comes up when I select Switch From ... in the power button drop down),
I get same result.

If I look in the system monitor at the processes running there is no
sign of gdm, which seems wierd (to me anyway) so I tried running gdm
from the command line and got the following output .

** (gdm-binary:9795): WARNING **: Failed to acquire

service org.gnome.DisplayManager due to security policies in the

[Bug 597650] [NEW] In RTL enviorment and in extended screen modes files on desktop go to the extended screen with clean by name

2010-06-23 Thread aviramof
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I have two screens one is my computer screen the other is TV now in
gnome-display-properties my computer screen is set on the left and the
TV is on the right meaning the gnome-panels are on the left screen the
computer screen but files on desktop don't stop at the right corner of
the computer screen but continue to the extended screen.

Now i don't know if the same problem happen as well in English environment but
in any case it should not happen and i do
hope that future versions of nautilus would focus just a bit more about the
desktop and not just files and folders and also fix
the other RTL bug number 404363

[Bug 112684] Re: F-Spot deletes temporary image files too early when sending mails

2010-06-23 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
SRU Verification for Lucid:

I have reproduced the problem with f-spot= 0.6.1.5-2ubuntu6 and have verified
that the version of
f-spot 0.6.1.5-2ubuntu7 in -proposed fixes the issue.
My only comment is that the temporary files are lying in /tmp forever and a
good practice would have been to cleanup those files at f-spot shutdown.

Marking as verification-done

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: f-spot

How to reproduce (thunderbird configured as primary email client, up to date
ubuntu 7.04)
  - In F-Spot: File - send email
  - Now, f-spot creates a temporary jpg-file in /tmp and opens thunderbird. But
when you switch back to f-spot and change the perspective (e.g. double-click on
another image), f-spot deletes the temporary file and sending mail is not
possible anymore...
+
+ TEST CASE:
+ 1. Monitor the content of /tmp/ with the command:
+ $ watch -n1 ls /tmp/tmp*.tmp/
+ 2. In the f-spot's image browser, select a picture
+ 3. Select menu Photo / Send by Mail ...
+ 4. In the dialog, click on 'Create Mail'
+ = The default mail client opens with the picture in attachment
+ 5. At the same time a temporary directory (e.g /tmp/tmp3992b325.tmp/) is
created with the picture attached in it.
+ 6. Wait for 30s and check that the temporary file is still there
+
+ VERIFICATION SUCCEEDED:
+ - The tmp file is still there after 30s.

[Bug 593226] Re: gnome panels suddenly have a 25 second delay after session load

2010-06-23 Thread Dvanzo
Well, reading an old post I can reduce the time from 25/30 seconds to
only 6 !

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/128803
===
Mitch Wiedemann wrote on 2007-10-31: #65

I was seeing very slow Gnome load times as well.

After reading a misconfigured loopback comment above, I checked my
network interface settings, and sure enough, I had configured a static
IP address for my ethernet interface and the slow startup would happen
only when I didn't have the ethernet cable plugged in.

I mostly use my wireless interface, so I set the ethernet interface back
to roaming and the problem was solved for me.

So, I suspect the long load times are due to a network-manager timeout or
something like that.
===

I checked my connections settings, and one of they have static IP...
Changed it to Authomatic (DHCP) and now all its working ok!

Regards!!

Daniel

Re: [Bug 597499] Re: opening ssh network location opens audacious

2010-06-23 Thread teledyn
sorry, I'd thought I had said it was reproduceable, because it happens every
time:

I open the Places/Connect To Server, set the connection type to SSH and give
a LAN address as the destination, then click the OK, the network folder then
appears (iconified) on my desktop *and* Audacious opens with an empty
playlist.

will ALSO launch audacious (clearing the prior playlist)

Hola Juan, thank you for taking the time to report this bug and make
Ubuntu better. I'm interested in this enhancement. I'm not sure about
showing the disk space, but I like the idea of the remove button, this
would be really good. Can you please add a screenshot of what you want
to make it more clear?

[Bug 597720] [NEW] Max CPU and memory grows on photo import

2010-06-23 Thread Chris Hatch
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

See attached jpg file. When I import this the CPU maxes out and memory
grows and grows until i kill the process.

I see the following in standard out after the import is kicked off:

item ImportCommand+SourceItem
cleanup context
cleanup context
FSpot.Tiff.ShortReadException: Short Read
  at FSpot.Tiff.DirectoryEntry.LoadExternal (System.IO.Stream stream) [0x0]
  at FSpot.Tiff.ImageDirectory.LoadEntries (System.IO.Stream stream) [0x0]
  at FSpot.Tiff.ImageDirectory.Load (System.IO.Stream stream) [0x0]
  at FSpot.Tiff.ImageDirectory..ctor (System.IO.Stream stream, UInt32

  at JpegHeader.GetExifHeader () [0x0]
  at FSpot.JpegFile.get_ExifHeader () [0x0]
  at FSpot.JpegFile.get_Date () [0x0]

The image file raises a dialog when opened in GIMP also. See attached.
Something about embedded color profile. If I say yes to this dialog,
save the file and then try the import again it works fine. So something
in the file is causing this max out in f-spot.
