[Bug 605597] Re: gcalctool crashed with SIGSEGV in __strlen_sse2()

2010-08-04 Thread Saji.N
The same bug was reproducible in Ubuntu 10.04, as I use the new version of
gcalctool(5.31.1). I think the upgraded version of Gcalctool, with the new UI
has this problem. I followed the steps given in the comment above, and
gcalctool crashed, but as told above if I had some value in the clipboard, I
could paste it to gcalctool, and it did not crash.
 My Processor is Intel, also I use a 32 bit Ubuntu.

Output of uname-a
Linux saji-laptop 2.6.32-24-generic #38-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jul 5 09:22:14 UTC 2010

I have attached the output of sudo lshw, along with this.
Output of lsb_release -a

[Bug 438841] Re: Jaunty: Evolution is excrutiatingly slow to load images.

2010-08-04 Thread Philippe
I have just updated to Evolution 2.30 hoping to solve the problem but it didn't.
I think it is important to solve this because many people turn to thunderbird
due to time taken to load images.
It's a shame because I think Evolution is really good.

[Bug 12608] Re: 'keep aligned' does not work right

2010-08-04 Thread Sense Hofstede
** Description changed:

** Description changed:

  How it does work:
  If I add some icons they are not realigned automaticly, instead I have to
  deselect 'keep aligned' in the context menu (of the desktop) and then
reselect it.
  how it should work:
  If anything happens with the icons on the desktop realign them to fit into
the grid.

  Seems to me like there's just the part missing where the desktop calls the
  realign function if an icon is moved/created.

[Bug 606149] Re: window borders don't have anti aliasing

2010-08-04 Thread Sense Hofstede
Thank you for helping with making Ubuntu and Metacity better by
reporting this bug. I can confirm this issue, have found an upstream
report describing the same problem at
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=345249.

However, unfortunately I don't think that this bug is trivial enough to
fix to accept it as a paper cut. It's not that easy to implement this
feature, so that's where this bug report falls short of the criteria for
the paper cuts project.

I'm marking this bug as Invalid ONLY in the One Hundred Paper Cuts
project. I'm changing the status in Ubuntu to Triaged, since the bug is
confirmed and an upstream report has been found, and the status to
Wishlist, since this is an enhancement suggestion, not a regression.

[Bug 613351] [NEW] mouse stops working correctly

2010-08-04 Thread Uqbar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

This problem is happening only when working in gnome-terminal.
While I'm typing the keyboard and the mouse left key becomes unresponsive and
gnome-terminal shows as if I was doing some text selection.
If I switch to another application with ALT+TAB (which is not always possible),
the weird behavior keeps happening with other application: unresponsive
keyboard and left mouse key not working.
Right and middle mouse key seems to be working though.
Sometimes the mouse button and the keyboard resume to normal operation after a
while.
At the very worse I need to restart the GDM or the whole PC when the keyboard
and the mouse keep not working properly.
I'm not able to reproduce the problem, which is happening quite often and only
with gnome-terminal.

no this is not about Mlterm as long as VTE does not support RTL.

at least there should be a warning or suggestion or message inside the
terminal stating that gnome-terminal does not support RTL and you should
install something else, like Mlterm. that is only when a user installs
RTL language Local.

that will be a great help for users before they start wondering why
their texts is flipped and chopped

5) Additional Info:
This has occured after:
a) I have installed Squirrel SQL client, with option to add squirrel shortcut
to menu section (name contains of empty string)
b) new main menu section has appeared, and inside there was a shortcut to
squirrel
c) I have moved this shortcut to Programming(?) section, it was ok
d) I tried to delete menu section from main menu.
e) all entries from main menu disappeared (this is unlikely that I have
selected all menu entries and deleted them)
e) alacarte stopped to respond, so I have closed it.
f) tried to start alacarte, and it has failed to start with the errors
mentioned in  point 4)

If you need strace/ltrace/gdb/anything please let me know as soon as possible,
as it is very hard to work without main menu, and I will regenerate new
profile/home for my login.
If you need to know if this is repeatable, I can try to trigger this on another
login.

I'm rejecting this as a paper cut because reworking the desktop is quite
some work and not something that is trivial to fix. However, I'm ONLY
marking this as a Invalid in the One Hundred Paper Cuts project.

For more information on what a paper cut is, please take a look at

[Bug 448051] Re: The trash is not emptied anymore in Karmic when ejecting removable devices

2010-08-04 Thread Sense Hofstede
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut
should be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu installation,
which affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug
can't be addressed as part of the project.

A quick glance on the upstream bug report seems to indicate that this bug is
most certainly not trivial to fix, and therefore it is not a valid paper cut.
For further info about papercuts criteria, please read
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut.

Don't worry though, This bug has been marked as Invalid ONLY in the
papercuts project.

[Bug 613358] Re: alacarte crashes on startup, when all menu entries are not present

2010-08-04 Thread LeadMan
My ~/.config/menus path contained following after this failure:

./applications-merged:

And my applications.menu file contained only the following:
pat...@esp-patben-lin:~/Backup/.config/menus$ cat applications.menu

/Menu

After additional search I have copied /etc/xdg/menus/applications.menu to
~/.config/menus. After that, all menu entries has appeared back... together
with  (empty name) entry.
Alacarte has started properly, I have moved squirrel SQL shortcut again to
Programming  entry.
Now I payed more attention, when (empty) was selected Delete button was
greyed out.
I have clicked squirrel shortcut in menu entry and deleted it - went fine.
I have clicked (empty) - delete button was still grey.
I tried to move (empty) to subsection of Accessories with hope i will be
able to delete it.
Then all menu entries has disappeared and after I closed it, terminal contained:
pat...@esp-patben-lin:/etc/xdg/menus$ alacarte

** (alacarte:3726): WARNING **: Error loading menu layout from

Conclusion: previously I have accidentally moved (empty) menu entry to
another section, which has triggered disappearance of all menu entries. Should
this be reported as separate bug? I remind you, that this bug concerns crash of
alacarte, when there are no menu entries.

[Bug 613371] [NEW] Login is not possible in gdm when the user password is in pre-expiration period

2010-08-04 Thread Renzo Bagnati
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Login is not possible in gdm when the user password is in pre-expiration
period

With an up-to-date maverick system, integrated in an Active Directory network,
the login of domain users with gdm is not possible when the password is in the
pre-expiration period.
After the insertion of the password (not yet expired), the gdm screen freezes,
showing a warning about the future password expiration (see screenshot). The
same user can instead login using the console.
Local users and domain users, whose password are not in pre-expiration period,
can login normally.
The AD integration of the system was done with winbind and PAM modules.

gdm 2.30.2.is.2.30.2-0ubuntu3
libpam0g 1.1.1-3ubuntu3
libpam-krb5 4.2-1

[Bug 612553] Re: Unicode input mangled

2010-08-04 Thread l0b0
Also, contrary to http://eyegene.ophthy.med.umich.edu/unicode/, none of the LC_
variables are changed after setting the language:
$ export LANG=en_US.UTF-8
$ locale
LANG=en_US.UTF-8
LC_CTYPE=C
LC_NUMERIC=C
LC_TIME=C
LC_COLLATE=C
LC_MONETARY=C
LC_MESSAGES=C
LC_PAPER=C
LC_NAME=C
LC_ADDRESS=C
LC_TELEPHONE=C
LC_MEASUREMENT=C
LC_IDENTIFICATION=C
LC_ALL=C

I get the same result on virtual terminal 1.

$ cat /var/lib/locales/supported.d/local
en_US.UTF-8 UTF-8

$ cat /etc/default/locale
LANG=en_US.UTF-8

Should /etc/default/locale contain LC_ALL=en_US.utf8 as mentioned in
bug #179150 comment #19?

Running through
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -plow console-setup
with the default settings didn't change anything.

I have not yet tried to reinstall anything; that hopefully won't be
necessary.

PS: I also tried logging out and restarting several times between
miscellaneous steps above.

[Bug 114620] Re: GDM has no change password option

2010-08-04 Thread Renzo Bagnati
In my setup within an AD network, when my password is in the expiration period
I can barely see the warning in the GDM login window for a fraction of a
second. A normal user would not even notice it.
Introducing the option of changing the password when it is in the expiration
period would also allow a user to be notified of this.

[Bug 533652] Re: critically low battery dialog cancel button is meaningless

2010-08-04 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
The reason I specified that Notify OSD fallback alerts
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NotifyOSD#alert should have at least two
buttons, instead of at least one, is to cater for applications that
distinguish between no action (closing the bubble in notification-daemon
== Cancel in Notify OSD) and the default action (clicking the bubble's
main area in notification-daemon == OK button or equivalent in Notify
OSD).

In the notification design guidelines we provided mockups of what gnome-
power-manager should do instead.

again later and it said it had to be manually ran in terminal using the
command 'sudo dpkg--configure-a'. This did not work. PLEASE tell me what
I'm doing wrong and how can I fix this problem? (Ubuntu 9.10)

[Bug 613430] [NEW] Rhythmbox freezes after every song

2010-08-04 Thread Dan Dart
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

(Clue: It's not the 2.6.35 kernel I'm using, it happened in the Ubuntu
stock kernel)

Rhythmbox freezes after every song. When I go to use the Force Quit
applet it appears to disappear but the tray icon is still present, so
relaunching it won't work, I have to run killall rhythmbox.

First started to happen probably one or two days ago.

What other info do we need?

[Bug 613431] Re: I don't know how to use terminal-HELP?

2010-08-04 Thread Chris Coulson
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug.

[Bug 611001] Re: Password prompt shows when automatically login

2010-08-04 Thread Chris Coulson
If you're using auto-login and have a keyring pass-phrase, then this is
the expected behaviour (as your login passphrase is normally what
unlocks the keyring)

** Package changed: gdm (Ubuntu) = gnome-keyring (Ubuntu)

2010-08-04 Thread Sebastien Bacher
not sure what the issue is but that's not a gdm bug, likely one software
trying to use the keyring, it could be the calendar, im, wifi,
ubuntuone, or any other software
