How exactly do you do that? There is nothing in the Workspace Switcher Prefs

 Status in Compiz: Unknown
Status in GTK+ GUI Toolkit: New
Status in One Hundred Paper Cuts: Triaged
Status in “gtk+2.0” package in Ubuntu: Triaged

 Bug description:
 Reproduce:

 1) have firefox in workspace 1
 2) go to workspace 3
 3) in the workspace switcher, click on firefox in workspace 1 and QUICKLY
move pointer to the middle of screen

Result: you have a tooltip saying Click to start dragging on your
workspace switcher and it doesn't go away unless you move your pointer over
it. This is a new issue since upgrading to Jaunty. Those tooltips are
completely superfluous because the dragging doesn't work anyway (see also
bug 318855). But that they stick since jaunty is even more annoying.

[Bug 615549] Re: Dell Studio XPS 13 no video

2010-08-17 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Right. So, the underlying problem here appears to be that /dev/fb0,
driven by vesafb, gets tagged as PRIMARY_DEVICE_FOR_DISPLAY=1 and gdm is
starting on fb0 PRIMARY_DEVICE_FOR_DISPLAY=1. So gdm is starting
before the drm devices are available, and all hell breaks loose.

Reassigning to gdm, as that's what's responsible for prematurely starting X. A
safe fix for this would be to replace

...
  and (graphics-device-added fb0 PRIMARY_DEVICE_FOR_DISPLAY=1
   or drm-device-added card0 PRIMARY_DEVICE_FOR_DISPLAY=1
   or stopped udevtrigger))

with

...
 and stopped udevtrigger

from gdm's upstart script. There may be a better way, though, as this will
increase boot time.

[Bug 563862] Re: When logging on power manager fails

2010-08-17 Thread Allan branch
I have only recently seen this bug, but reading the comments made me
think it might be my USB peripherals. I had an iPod connected the most
recent reboots when I got to login ALL my USB items had not
mounted/loaded. Is there any way to disable gnome-power at login? I
agree with owen that the computer has not fully started-up as I still
see a lot of HDD activity at login.

[Bug 563862] Re: When logging on power manager fails

2010-08-17 Thread Allan branch
I can report that removing the iPod solved the problem. I must say, I
suspect any thing that uses a lot of power slows down gnome-power-
manager at boot ( charging iPods, CD/DVD drive use, USB hubs, cameras )
and thats why we all see that warning. In Jaunty, however, I did not
observe this behavior (I triple boot, so its the same machine).

Re: [Bug 150690] Re: Can't drag a window to another workspace

2010-08-17 Thread Paul Beardsell
Closing this, marking it invalid, is inappropriate. 100 paper cuts
doesn't mean 100 trivial bugs which are easy to fix, it means 100 small
annoyances that piss off users, particularly newbie ones who don't know the
workarounds. Please UNDO this change of status.

[Bug 517021] Re: gvfsd-metadata causes 100% CPU usage

2010-08-17 Thread Rune Philosof
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gvfs

+ My disk space was really full at one moment, no byte left free. People say,
that does corrupt the files in the ~/.local/share/gvfs-metadata folder, so the
gvfsd-metadata can't read it without being screwed up.
+ Workaround: run rm -rf ~/.local/share/gvfs-metadata
+
+ Expected results:
+ gvfsd-metadata should be able to handle the no space left situation.
+
+
+ --- Original description ---
After installing 9.10 Ubuntu 64bit browsing and opening folder in nautilus or
Gnome-commander take several minutes when there are many files in it e.g.
10.000. Interestingly Midnight-commander does not have this problem. Opening
such folders does not hang with MC.
- Using top i can see that gvfsd-metadata is using 100% CPU and when i kill
it the computer stops hanging. I am using the 32bit version of Karmic too and
there is no such Problem (although tested on a different computer).

[Bug 615549] Re: Dell Studio XPS 13 no video

2010-08-17 Thread Martin Pitt
For merely ignoring framebuffer devices if we have DRM devices, this
would be enough, and more efficient:

  and (drm-device-added card0 PRIMARY_DEVICE_FOR_DISPLAY=1
   or stopped udevtrigger))

However, that would still not fix devices which have two video cards and
X wants to start on the second one (Chris mentioned this). Scott, is
there a magical all video devices are up wait condition, or do we
really have to fall back to the full stopped udevtrigger for this
special case?

Thanks, Martin

[Bug 619281] [NEW] Empathy does not show inactive users who are online

2010-08-17 Thread Julian Lam
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

Specifically, I am talking about the MSN accounts

Expected behaviour: Users who are idle or inactive should show up on the
Empathy contact list as online (or idle).

Encountered behaviour: Idle or inactive users are shown as offline.

Note: This is not to be confused with users marked as away, just idle
users.

This bug can be reproduced at will:
1. Log into MSN Messenger/Meebo, and find an inactive (but online!) user.
Remember his/her name.
2. Log into empathy, and note that that user is not listed as online, but
offline.

[Bug 614348] Re: [maverick] evolution crashed when I export my feed rss

2010-08-17 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.
However, processing the crash report to get detailed information for the
developers failed as the retracer did not generate a useful symbolic stack
trace.
Please try to obtain a backtrace manually following the instructions at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and upload the backtrace (as an
attachment) to the bug report. This will greatly help us in tracking down your
problem.

[Bug 414107] Re: Palimpsest GUI impossible to use on small screen

2010-08-17 Thread Leo
Could any of you gentle guys deploy a ppa with this palimpsest plus this
patch?

That would be just so nice!

** Description changed:

gnome-disk-utility does not fit netbook screen. the window height is
much more than 576px which basically make the app unusable on a netbook
screen. The attached patch works fine as its already working in Meego
and also its attached to the upstream bug report but there has been no
activity from the upstream developers for more than 9months.

+ Moreover, when the window is maximized, it is impossible to click on
+ the parts of it that are visible. As the user moves the mouse and
+ clicks, the window position keeps changing.
+
+ Worse, the window somehow decides to maximize itself.
+ This prevents the possible workaround of moving it with Alt+Mouse, rendering
the GUI definitely impossible to use.
+ (When the user selects a filesystem mounted on the top of a cryptsetup
mapper, whose path /dev/mapper/... is too long, the window pops to
maximized state by itself.)
+
TEST CASE: start gnome disk-utility on a netbook with 600px vertical
pixels, click on the name of your hardrive. gdu window will do some
weired things as it dont fit on the screen so basically becomes
  unusable.
