[Bug 630383] Re: Gnome-terminal paste keyboard shortcut does not work

2010-10-03 Thread Rick Silva
I'm experiencing this with the Maverick (10.10) Release Candidate for
Netbooks. With the default 'terminal' app available via applications.
Running it 'Live' from USB stick (i.e. not installed)

Not only does Shift+Ctrl+V fail to paste, but Shift+Ctrl+C fails to copy
the selected text.

Use of the Edit menu options for Copy and Paste does work.
Use of Ctrl+Ins and Shift+Ins also does work for Copy and Paste.

But for as long as I've been using Ubuntu, Shift+Ctrl+C and Shift+Ctrl+V
have been the default key combinations for the Copy and Paste functions
in gnome-terminal. People have probably gotten used to this, and might
find it confusing to find them no longer working in Maverick.

Re: [Bug 526641] Re: dbus does not report any PowerManagment messages

2010-10-03 Thread _sRg_
Thank you for you help to resolve this trouble. I really appreciate it.

Outputs of upower --dump can be found in attachments.
   * Battery_mode_after_boot - laptop has been turned on with unplugged AC
power;
   * AC_mode_after_boot - few minutes after log in session I plugged AC
power. Nothing changed;
   * AC_mode_after_boot_changed - after about 5 minutes screen brightness
was increased and AC power mode was activated;
   * gpm.gconf.values.txt - gpm settings dump.

Why does it takes core so much time to switch between power modes in Ubuntu
10,04?
Please help me solve and correct this bug.

2010/10/2 ybaruss 526...@bugs.launchpad.net

Please, if you experienced this problem with 10.04Lucid can you provide:

 * The output of upower --dump with AC disconnected/connected in both
case: dis/connected before boot or dis/connection under session open ?

 * Do command: gconftool-2 --recursive-list /apps/gnome-power-manager
 gpm.gconf.values.txt
 and attach file gpm.gconf.values.txt ?

 Many thanks

Status in “gnome-power-manager” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

My laptop does not supend on critical low battery power. If i plug or
unplug AC, then gpm is notified about this and it shows a notification
message. if i unplug AC while running a gnome session the icon appears and
the tooltip shows, that the battery is discharging. After a while of
inactivity, the screen is not dimmed. The warnings about low or critical
battery power are not shown. Finally, the laptop does not suspend but just
 runs out of power...

If i start the laptop while AC is not connected then the situation is
different: The screen gets dimmed after a few seconds of inactivity.
Notifications of low or critical battery power are shown. Unfortunately, the
 laptop does not suspend.

 Manual supend works perfect.

 Output of dbus-monitor --session
 type='signal',interface='org.freedesktop.PowerManagement':

 signal sender=org.freedesktop.DBus - dest=:1.101 serial=2

   string :1.101
 method call sender=:1.57 - dest=:1.101 serial=490 path=/;
 interface=org.freedesktop.DBus.Introspectable; member=Introspect

but nothing more. (For example, i unplug/plug AC while the command was
 running, but no output).

[Bug 222256] Re: small fonts in epiphany

2010-10-03 Thread Matijs van Zuijlen
I'm still seeing this problem in Epiphany 2.30.6 on Debian. No
mscorefont in sight.

My Ubuntu system has a sufficiently low DPI to make the fonts readable,
but they're much smaller than in Firefox there as well. No mscorefont
there either.

Perhaps there is a more generic font problem that is triggered by the
mscorefonts installer and also some other fonts?

/etc/motd told me system load was over 5, saw 4-5 gdm processes each

[Bug 625793] Re: Keyboard layout automatically changes + 100% CPU usage [updated]

2010-10-03 Thread Dmitry Kann
I confirm this one. I have Russian and English layouts, and switching is
bound to Caps Lock. Just lately this bug began to appear, gnome-
settings-daemon eats up one CPU entirely (~50% overall load), and the
Caps Lock (=layout) indicator blinks like crazy, incredibly annoying.

Killing the daemon helps but if I restart it over again, the bug reverts
in a few seconds.

Please raise the importance, it is a very eminent issue!

The problem is that, Sent to Rubbish Bin and Empty Rubbish Bin sound
disjointed and robotic. It's not fair to compare it to trash because
Trash is what what goes in the bin (e.g. Empty Rubbish sounds OK).

Empty Rubbish Bin is understandable, it's just ugly.

[Bug 406626] Re: Deleted Items Folder inconsistently named in en_GB localisation

2010-10-03 Thread Vish
OK, I think my reference to the gnome HIG is a bit unfair over this
issue :-) [maybe a side-effect of replying at 3am on a Sat night :p ]

Because HIG is basically how the _default_ language style needs to be
written in Gnome UI and the default language is US English. So
everything else is just based accordingly there.

As popey mentioned, the translations need to adapt to the locale.
The local translators need to decide which sounds more apt for their locale and
they weigh in on the benefits.

My non-locale view on this is that, this change *is* bringing in new
inconsistent to the items from the rest of the system menus.

However, the UK translators/users might find this an absolutely necessary
change to make.
If so, this needs to be done elsewhere too, to maintain a consistent UI. Kindly
make the necessary changes elsewhere too.

Mostly, everwhere in HIG there is a reference of keeping labels short and for
clear, consistent and concise labelling.

http://library.gnome.org/devel/hig-book/stable/menus-standard.html.en

More items listed at :

http://library.gnome.org/devel/gdp-style-guide/stable/menu-terminology.html.en

This bug is about the inconsistent naming of wastebasket and Deleted items, and
was fixed when popey confirmed with screenshot in comment #90, beyond which we
have piggy-backed on this bug with another issue.
Marking this bug as fixed, while the change to add the/a/an can be discussed
in a new a bug for all menu items.

Thanks everyone for getting this fixed! :-)

[Bug 653685] Re: 2 separate applications for keyring related items

2010-10-03 Thread Vish
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut should
be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu install, that affects many
people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be addressed as part of
this project.

 - By default on a Maverick install we only have Passwords and Encryption
Keys menu item. Not an issue with the default install hence not a papercut.
For further information about papercuts criteria, please read
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut.
Don't worry though, this bug has been marked as Invalid only in the papercuts
project.

The second one[Encryption and keyrings] i believe *might* be since
seahorse-plugins was installed?
Or maybe the item was present in earlier releases and was left after upgrade to
Maverick.

I already had some troubles of greater importance when I upgraded
ubuntu to 9.10 (can't receive correctly the TV through DVB-S) or 10.04
(ext4 disabled ?). So I do not want to take the risk another time to
upgrade ubuntu before I am sure there is no regression. The present
system with ubuntu 9.4 is nearly like a production system to me. Maybe
later, I'll try to install a new version of ubuntu on another system...

[Bug 561734] Re: quadrapassel doesn't start: Failed to initialise clutter: Unable to select the newly created GLX context

2010-10-03 Thread Dave Gilbert
Hi Elias,
That's interesting - my laptop runs quadrapassel OK and it's got a 945GM
(without the E - I don't know what that E gives you!)
and the output is very similar to yours (included). The only difference I can
see are a difference in the visuals (why?).

it being related)

[Bug 625793] Re: Keyboard layout automatically changes + 100% CPU usage [updated]

2010-10-03 Thread Dmitry Shachnev
** Description changed:

  == General description ==

On some Ubuntu installs with two or more keyboard layouts (e.g. Russian
and US English), after some time the keyboard layouts start switching in
an endless loop and gnome-settings-daemon starts using more and more CPU
  until it reaches 100%.

  == Known information ==

- 1) Most people here confirm that this happens with non-GTK (Java or Qt)
windows more often then with native GTK. (probably, might be a coincidence)
+ 1) Some people here confirm that this happens with non-GTK (Java or Qt)
windows more often then with native GTK. (probably, might be a coincidence)
  2) Possible fixes are killing and restarting gnome-settings-daemon or
disabling the Separate layout for each window option in keyboard preferences
window.
  3) The second fix, however didn't work for most people, though it might
really reduce the probability of the bug appearing.
  4) The bug happens both on upgrade installs and clean installs of Ubuntu,
confirmed with RC and Alpha 3.
- 5) The bug is specific to Ubuntu, not exisiting in Arch Linux and AgiliaLinux.
- 6) Having such a problem in a final release will make keyboard use very
problematic for Russian users, so Ubuntu can lose many users.
+ 5) The bug is specific to Ubuntu, not existing in Arch Linux and AgiliaLinux.
+ 6) There are users who experience this problem with Russian, Slovakian,
Macedonian, Hebrew layots. Having such a problem in final release will make
keyboard use very problematic for users from these countries, so Ubuntu can
lose many users.
  7) The bug is still not fixed in GNOME 2.32, which again proves that it's an
Ubuntu-specific issue.
  8) For some users, the bug disappears after 2 to 15 minutes of use.
  9) Confirmed for almost any key set for switching layouts (Shift+Alt,
Shift+Ctrl, CapsLock, Alt, Ctrl)
  10) Confirmed for both Latin and non-Latin layouts.
  11) Permanent fix is to disable g-s-d keyboard plugin in gconf, not fully
confirmed though.
  12) Confirmed as a g-s-d issue, both with and without indicators.

[Bug 561734] Re: quadrapassel doesn't start: Failed to initialise clutter: Unable to select the newly created GLX context

2010-10-03 Thread Elias Julkunen
I solved the problem. Package libclutter-eglx-es20-1.0-0 was installed.
I replaced that package with package libclutter-1.0-0 and now
quadrapassel works.

I installed Ubuntu Netbook Edition from daily image shortly after beta
2. I guess that libclutter-eglx-es20-1.0-0 was default package, but I
checked now Ubuntu RC image and libclutter-1.0-0 will be installed
default, so everything should be okay.

@Linus, could you confirm that installing package libclutter-1.0-0 fixes
this bug?

[Bug 406626] Re: Deleted Items Folder inconsistently named in en_GB localisation

2010-10-03 Thread Phil Bull
Hi guys,

Please stick to the HIG with this. Deviating from it will introduce
ambiguities when translating the documentation. I should also point out
that this isn't a localisation issue, it's a stylistic one. We have this
terse style in UK English too (newspaper headlines use something
similar, for example), and it's perfectly acceptable.

It's OK for action labels, like those on buttons or in pop-up menus, to
sound disjointed. They're not full sentences; rather they're headings,
so there's no need for them to flow. The role of an action label is to
quickly identify a function, not to convey meaning, so there's no need
for the wording to sound pleasant. This would be different if we were
talking about (e.g.) the explanatory text in a dialog box, though.

[Bug 654064] [NEW] Scrollpad two and three finger taps not persistent

2010-10-03 Thread Thomas Goose
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

I believe I'm suffering from the same bug as reported here
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=518502 .

I would like to be able to have two-fingered tapping as middle-click
(and three-finger tapping as right-click), which was I believe the
default in earlier versions of Ubuntu. I can achieve this with the
command synclient TapButton2=2 TapButton3=3. However, since upgrading
to I think Ubuntu 10.04 (I'm currently running the beta of 10.10) every
time I suspend/resume, switch to a text console, reboot, or plug in or
unplug something from USB the two- and three-fingered tapping are
swapped back. I think this is because of hardcoded values in gnome-
settings daemon.

I don't mind really what the default ordering of taps to clicks is
(1,3,2 or 1,2,3) but I would like to be able to set it to 1,2,3.

[Bug 491786] Re: Umlaut/Special caracters not imported - .pst-file import (calender, contacts) from outlook XP (German) to Evolution 2.26

2010-10-03 Thread tellapu
Time flies by, but no activity on this bug. Any tips? I would like to finally
move from Windows to Ubuntu and the last piece would be the transfer of the
addresses and the calendar, but it still doesn't work with the special
character and Umlauts.
Interestingly the import of the outlook csv-file into Evolution (2.28.3) has
not problems with the special characters and Umlaut, but there are other issues
(e.g. not matching of a lot fields), so I prefer the import of the pst-file.

[Bug 367169] Re: GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server; durring ssh X11 forwarding

2010-10-03 Thread gord-s
This occurs for me on 10.04.1, several server machines and a couple of Ubuntu
desktops, acting as remote (ssh-into these machines) and local (ssh from these
machines). So far, on all 10.04.1 machines from fresh install, and all updates
from previous versions (some sequentially from 7.04, some LTS-only from 8.04)
every machine has been affected at some point, some several times over since
install/upgrade.
These machines are x86 and AMD64

[Bug 636329] Re: Gimp won't print preview

2010-10-03 Thread Dave Gilbert
Sven Neumann upstream has added a patch that fixes this, I've patched
the 2.6.10 package and tested it and it seems good.

(I've just pushed it to a ppa here https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-

I've also attached the patch below (Sven's patch from Gnome git

I think just because of a little too much fuzz?)

[Bug 195483] Re: Sound Juicer - MP3 quality doesn't change

2010-10-03 Thread FiloSottile
Current Maverick CD quality is (installing restricted-extras and sound-juicer)
audio/x-raw-int,rate=44100,channels=2 ! lamemp3enc name=enc target=0 quality=6
! xingmux ! id3v2mux

Definitively not CD quality.

Developers need to be advised to change profiles to KennoVO's ones:
CD Quality
--
audio/x-raw-int,rate=44100,channels=2 ! lamemp3enc name=enc target=0 quality=2
! xingmux ! id3v2mux

Portable MP3 Player Quality
---
audio/x-raw-int,rate=44100,channels=2 ! lamemp3enc name=enc target=0 quality=6

Voice Quality
-
audio/x-raw-int,rate=44100,channels=2 ! lamemp3enc name=enc target=1 bitrate=56
mono=true ! xingmux ! id3v2mux

@BruceR:
OGG files?? I haven't understood anything of your latest messages (except the
pointless information about your eyes). If you have something to say about
these profiles, say it clearly and directly, else let devs do their work.

[Bug 654105] [NEW] Transferring songs from iPod to local drive does not copy extension (ie, .mp3), confusing some portable devices

2010-10-03 Thread nicholas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I used Rhythmbox to transfer the contents of my iPod to my local drive,
by dragging all songs to the Music icon. The files transfer well, and
Ubuntu is smart enough to know what kind of file they are. However, as
the extension (.mp3, .ogg etc) is not copied over, when transferring
songs to another device (in this case, an HTC Desire, also using
rhythmbox), the device is confused by a lack of extension.

[Bug 201786] Re: ssh Agent admitted failure to sign using the key on big endian machines

2010-10-03 Thread poloshiao
It was Ok when I installed openSSH on this May as soon as ubuntu 10.04 LTS came
out.
It encountered the same problem as described above when I make another new
installation this afternoon.
It was resolved after runnig ssh-add ~/.ssh/id_rsa as said on these comments.
I found out another thing not mentioned here.
There was a file called known_hosts in ~/.ssh/ when I installed on this May.
This file known_hosts disappeared when I installed this afternoon, so it failed.
The file known_hosts appeared again after runnig ssh-add ~/.ssh/id_rsa, so it
was perfect.
