[Bug 586986] Re: Switching from mail to calendar undocks the evolution window in Ubuntu Netbook Edition

2010-10-07 Thread Joël Schaerer
* Is this reproducible?
* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?

Yes, it is reproducible. From the initial bug report:

However after switching from mail to calendar or calendar to mail, the
window is no longer properly maximized, and it is impossible to put it
back in a good state without restarting the application.

Yes, unless you have a ~/.config/monitors.xml (i. e. manual settings).

Will try that - It happened last time upgraded to 10.4 Beta edition, I
ended up reinstalling the OS when the full version came out [wasted a

A way around it is to open my computer then go to the Places,

Thanks for your help.

The ~/.gtk-bookmarks file actually stores the nautilus bookmarks, which show

One thing that you might want to try is:
 Start nautilus
Then right-click on a folder such as Pictures
 Choose Open with other application...
 Select File Browser
Make sure Remember this application [...] is checked

Your Places menu should then work as expected.
 Hope this helps...

[Bug 656192] [NEW] Clock / Calendar - Calendar displayed in wrong place when you click on Clock..

2010-10-07 Thread martin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Ubuntu 10.10 Beta

This is related to Bug 188422

My Clock is positioned on a panel at the bottom of the screen. In
previous releases of Ubuntu (and I'm reasonably sure the first few days
of my 10.10 Beta testing) clicking on Clock would display the Calender
immediately above it and neatly against the RH edge of screen.

Now selecting Clock throws up the Calendar box detached from the Clock
at the top of the screen and (as reported in bug 188422) if you add two
(or more) locations the top of the box floats out of the screen area.

Re: [Bug 553162] Re: Set $LANGUAGE if the user picks a different locale in gdm, so that language-selector and gdm stop disagreeing

2010-10-07 Thread Martin Pitt
Hello Gunnar,

Gunnar Hjalmarsson [2010-10-04 8:38 -]:
language-selector sets $LANGUAGE for language, and $LANG for other
locales. That's why it's inconsistent that gdm sometimes uses $LANG
when dealing with the language to be used for message display.

gdm doesn't have such an elaborate locale/language configuration as
the language-selector, it just as a simple locale selector. It simply
doesn't support setting a list of language fallbacks for $LANGUAGE.
It's not supposed to either, the main point is that you can start a
desktop session in a different language. You can then fine-tune it
with language-selector.

Thus gdm is not really inconsistent, it just doesn't have feature
parity with language-selector.

Therefore it should not try to change your $LANGUAGE settings either.
It should just clear it when it changes $LANG, so that $LANG actually
becomes effective.

 - As you pointed out in comment #24, the previous code didn't take into
account different syntax variants for setting and exporting $LANGUAGE.
Now the code for editing ~/.profile is safer.

No, please let's not. gdm is _not_ a tool for setting $LANGUAGES.
That's what language-selector is for.

 - $LC_MESSAGES is set to take care of applications that don't recognize
 $LANGUAGE.

That should be fixed in language-selector, not gdm. gdm already sets
$LANG, which firefox friends do recognize.

Thanks!

Martin

Re: [Bug 553162] Re: Set $LANGUAGE if the user picks a different locale in gdm, so that language-selector and gdm stop disagreeing

2010-10-07 Thread Martin Pitt
Gunnar Hjalmarsson [2010-10-05 4:13 -]:
It seems to me that you, and possibly also Martin, assume that $LANG
ought to correspond to the first language in the $LANGUAGE list.

No, it shouldn't. I wasn't saying that, I was just saying that, since
gdm doesn't have a way to configure $LANGUAGES, there is no point in
faking $LANGUAGES, _because_ $LANG and $LANGUAGES are independent.

Basically, what I hope to convince you about is that since it's only
language that the users can set from GDM, and not any other locale
 aspects

No, it's exactly the other way around. gdm has a locale selector, but
not a language list selector.

If I have understood it correctly, $LANGUAGE is a gettext specific
variable, and certain applications' inability to understand that
variable is not a bug per se.

That's correct, $LANGUAGE is a GNU extension.

Consequently I think that Ubuntu in any case shall provide the
preferred translation language also via the $LC_MESSAGES variable,
 and I don't think that's a workaround.

I agree, this should indeed be fixed in language-selector.

Thanks,

Martin

[Bug 656207] [NEW] evince displays wrong fonts

[Bug 656210] [NEW] HP Laptop Remote Control does not Shutdown / Turn OFF computer..

2010-10-07 Thread martin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

Ubuntu 10.10 Beta
gnome-session ??
HP dv6720 Laptop

These series of laptops have a small remote control nicely tucked away
in the PCMCIA slot. The Linux functionality is quite good considering
it's based on a Windows/HP entertainment setup with Windows button and
DVD quick launch etc. Volume, next song, moving up/down on screen etc
all work.

Pressing the Power button on the remote control does not Shutdown /
Power OFF the computer, rather it just suspends the session. The problem
was the same on previous releases like 10.04 and 9.10. It could be
related to earlier reported problems where for example laptops were
performing the wrong action from the choice of (shutdown, hibernate or
end session, blank screen) when the lid was closed. I seem to recall
trying to setup the laptop with a 'shutdown on screen closure' but it
would always result in 'suspend session' instead, similar to the action
of the remote control in this bug.

[Bug 635803] Re: Too much empty space at the right side of the indicator-applet drop-down menu

2010-10-07 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
The purpose of showing keyboard equivalents in this menu is exactly the
same as the purpose of showing keyboard equivalents in any other menu:
so that people know what they are. Hiding the keyboard equivalents here
(or, even worse, showing them as a tooltip) wouldn't fix the bug in any
of the other menus where it occurs. And it's not sensible to pick and
choose whether to show a keyboard equivalent for an item based on how
wide the menu's other items happen to be in English.

[Bug 656269] [NEW] Forward button in evolution import assistant is disabled while trying to import PST file

2010-10-07 Thread Joseph Chereshnovsky
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Trying to import PST file into my Evolution but it seams like a but with
import wizard. It doesn't shows any error messages, just the button to
the next step of wizard is disabled without any reason.

PST Import plugin is enabled in Plugins Manager Edit - Plugins

I'm clicking File - Import... to open Evolution Import Assistant.
Then I click Forward to skip a welcome screen and select to import from
single file.

After that I select my file in file selection dialog in Filename: field.
My file was correctly recognized as Outlook personal folders (.pst) in File
type: field.

But I can't click Forward button as it is disabled.

Please refer this screenshot that contains the dialog step described above:

So I can't import my file. NO any error or warning are showed up, button

there is some other bugs about it not being installed on upgrade though
it's a recommends of the indicator-applet and the dist upgrader should

[Bug 649112] Re: Gnome panel freezes when I unmark option Expand

2010-10-07 Thread Mario Tomljenović
Hi!

I cannot reproduce the bug anymore. I guess the reason was some
combination of the applets on the panel, and I can´t get the right
combination of the applets that caused the panel freezing. If I succeed
to reproduce the bug, I will gladly upload the backtrace.

not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to

[Bug 655084] Re: where I can set the number of lines of scroll, as in MS Windows?

2010-10-07 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug.

[Bug 643910] Re: No effect when unchecking Compress weekends in month view

2010-10-07 Thread Alexander Usyskin
89_express.patch drops cal-compress-weekends binding from e-week-view and moves
it to e-cal-config-view. May be it's a culprit.
I'll try to build and test with this change reverted later.

[Bug 656336] [NEW] Clicking the X to close a message window also closes the main Evolution window

2010-10-07 Thread Jeff Lane
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Found this by accident. When you close a secondary message window
(opened by double clicking an e-mail in the e-mail list for a given
account), not only does that message window close, but the Evolution
itself closes as well.

In the attached screen shot, you'll see the Evolution window as well as
the smaller message window that was opened when I double clicked on one
of the messages in that folder.

Now, when I click the window control to close that window (the X in the
corner), not only will that window close, but it'll close down Evolution
as well.

Package: evolution 2.30.3-1ubuntu6

This appears to affect custom appearance settings... When I switched
back to the default Ambiance theme the problem did not occur.

I'm not sure which appearance combo triggers this though.

[Bug 332348] Re: Display icon indication for mobile/web client/bot/etc IM users

2010-10-07 Thread Jake LeMaster
People are giving feedback to this issue. Some developers would be
interested in that. It's frustrating to have the usability of a program
hurt so badly by such a seemingly small thing. (It seems like it should
be able to qualify as a Papercut.)

And this bug report has a whole 7 comments in the extremely long time
it's been open. I really don't think you're justified in making a huff
over it.
