[Bug 660877] Re: The top GNOME panel in Ubuntu 10.10 does not display correctly
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 439448 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/439448 Hello. This is not an ubuntu specific bug. This happens with compiz and gnome panel in general no matter what distro you have. I have the same bug in Arch Linux and, although it looks ugly, it's harmless. To re-fresh the panel (redraw it) i just right click, go to properties, change the size by one pixel, let it refresh, then change it back one pixel, and it's good. [Bug 439448] Re: Visual corruption affecting several panel applets
I have this problem too. It seems to be a general bug with compiz/gome- panel, not distro specific. I have a quick fix. When it happens, right click the panel, click properties, then change the size by one pixel, then change it back after it refreshes. A fix would be nice though. [Bug 663119] [NEW] Unneeded items in System Preferences
Public bug reported: It seems strange that in the same cycle that we have had 'Software Sources' removed from the System Preferences menu, that we have had around 4 new unneeded menu items added. These include: * Broadcast Preferences * File Management * Main Menu * Messaging and VoIP Accounts * Ubuntu One First of all none of these should be in this menu, because the menu is for 'System Preferences'. When I see this I think of hardware or services that are at a low-level in the system, that are integral two it, not user-space applications that are not linked to the basic running of the system. Broadcast Preferences (Gwibber Preferences) has no link to the system, it is merely a shortcut to the gwibber preferences. I believe this should not be here, as it is a duplication of the menu item Edit Preferences in gwibber itself. It should be removed for the same reason of 'Software Sources' but also because a user will not logically look here for Gwibber's Preferences - they will open gwibber instead. File Management, this is probably the one of the list above that has most reason to be in the menu, however I still believe that it should not be included. Nautilus is a user-space application and if a user wants to modify its preferences, he/she will open Nautilus and choose Edit Preferences. This again comes back to the point that it is simply duplicating menu items and making the Preferences menu more flooded than it already is. Main Menu is not an integral part of the system and so has no place in being here. This one seems to be even more unneeded by me, as the user has just opened the menu to get at it - they only need to right click instead of left click and they will have the 'Edit Menus...' menuitem. Again, not where a user will look and duplication of menuitems. Messaging and VoIP Accounts is the same problem as Broadcast Preferences. Not an integral part of the system and I don't really know why it is here. Ubuntu One this has a valid case for there being a menuitem, however it should be in Apllications Internet. this is a userspace application, not integral and it is much more logical for a person to look in Internet rather than System Preferences for Ubuntu One. If we hid all of these, it would make the preferences menu a lot easier to navigate, and a menu that contained concise items that were suited to their parent menu. Of course I may be completely wrong and there are legitimate reasons why these are here. You have been subscribed to a public bug: Ubuntu Maverick 10.10 Window List 2.30.2 When you have many windows opened Windows List on taskbar is completely useless. All you see are small buttons with 3 dots on them, no icon, no windows title. See attached screenshot 1. This behavior should be changed. Perhaps ensure that the minimum size is enough for the icon to be shown and add small and to the left and right of the many buttons. Or up-down arrows on the right side of the many buttons, similar to what windows xp taskbar does in this situation. I do not have grouping enabled since I do not like that feature. If you enable it, it's somewhat better, but the unwanted behaviour is again apparent when you have many _different_ programs opened. Also three dots are again useless, even with the icon visible. [Bug 663188] [NEW] pictures renaming slower
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gthumb Early in the Lucid Lynx release process, the rename feature dialog of Gthumb changed to a new one, which was vastly slower than the previous one. In the very last days before Lucid's release, it was reverted back to the old rename dialog. The problem itself is that when you press on F2 (or click in the menu) to start this feature on a set of selected files, it takes ages (sometimes in minutes) for the dialog to come up, while it was instantaneous on the same computers with Lucid's Gthumb. I tested this on several computers, powerful or not, with different kinds of storages (internal HDD, USB HDD, USB SD reader, ...) for the pictures. Now, Maverick (release) has the exact same problem, and that's annoying. ** Affects: gthumb (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: maverick -- pictures renaming slower https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/663188 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gthumb in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 663119] Re: Unneeded items in System Preferences
While the menu is bloated, I'd like to comment on Nautilus: In other OSes (Mac, Windows) their equivalent of Nautilus (Finder, Explorer) are not simply userspace applications, or at least are not seen as such by regular users. I believe the latter point here is true of Nautilus in Ubuntu as well. The file manager is such an integral part of the OS, and is not actually named anywhere where it will be encountered by beginning user (I went quite some time without knowing that the file manager was in fact just another application called Nautilus). Also: I commonly remove items from the preferences/system settings menus based on how often I use them. It is fairly easy to do, and I am not an advanced user by any means. -- Unneeded items in System Preferences https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/663119 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to empathy in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I had some random freezes and weird system slow downs under 10.04, but the slow install, slow system, theme errors, and stuttering in video are all new with 10.10. Could there be an underlying issue with the hardware that is causing all of these problems? My hardware worked fine under 10.04 (mostly) and works fine in windows 7. I think this issue may be part of a bigger problem. FYI : if i run rhythmbox from terminal and then plugin the KC910 i get this : (rhythmbox:2325): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed ** Message: pygobject_register_sinkfunc is deprecated (GstObject) ** (rhythmbox:2325): DEBUG: Syncdaemon not running, waiting for it to start in NameOwnerChanged ** (rhythmbox:2325): DEBUG: Loading the real store page ** (rhythmbox:2325): WARNING **: Got less number of items in credentials hash table than expected! ** (rhythmbox:2325): DEBUG: navigation requested to https://one.ubuntu.com/music/store-no-token ** (rhythmbox:2325): DEBUG: navigation requested to http://stores.7digital.com/default.aspx?shop=480partner=983 Device 0 (VID=1004 and PID=608f) is a LG Electronics Inc. [Bug 663074] Re: evince always crash when open a pdf file
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding. ** Changed in: evince (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium ** Changed in: evince (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- evince always crash when open a pdf file https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/663074 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
