[Bug 659658] Re: palm os conduits missing in evolution in 10.10 upgrade
I went as far as to copy the libraries libeaddress_conduit.so, libecalendar_common_conduit.so, libecalendar_conduit.so, libememo_conduit.so, and libetodo_conduit.so from Evolution 2.28 into /usr/lib/evolution/2.30/conduits (had to create the conduits directory), but no dice. The gnome-pilot backup to a directory feature still works, so it should be possible to import the backups and merge them in somehow as a clumsy workaround. For all its warts, I still can't find a worthy utilitarian substitute for my Palm TX. -- palm os conduits missing in evolution in 10.10 upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/659658 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 674818] [NEW] evolution preferences window larger than screen resolution
Public bug reported: 1366 X768 is the (max/native)resolution on my new laptop. and evolution cannot resize the preferences window and what is worst, when i maximize the window anytime i will click on the window it will not let me select anything,it will instead just shift up and down disabling me to select anything even the unmaximize button,my only resort is to unmaximize from the contextual menu at the bottom toolbar. trying to resize it really doesn't work,it sizes up but it doesn't resize to a smaller window. it always cuts a few pixels over the close button, which is kind of annoying.. i've seen this same issue while searching, prior to creating this bug report. and the other case i've seen was because of a 6.10 config with a 800X600 resolution. (i'm refering to Question #5684) this case is somewhat different, the resolution should be big enough (isn't it ?) and i have the issue on 10.10 X64. ask questions merrily,i'll answer them when i see them :) thanks! ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- evolution preferences window larger than screen resolution https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/674818 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 667514] Re: deinterlacing is default
If deinterlacing were to be turned off by default a lot of users would experience poor video playback out of the box and it is unlikely that they would know what to do to fix it. This high CPU use will be solved in time as support for GPU accelerated video decoding such as XvMC (X-Video Motion Compensation), VDPAU (Video Decode and Presentation API for Unix) and VA-API becomes more widespread. For those not familiar with the Linux video APIs and extensions, XvMC is capable of offloading the video decoding of motion compensation and iDCT (inverse discrete cosine transform) work to the GPU for MPEG-2 video files. VDPAU supports motion compensation, iDCT, VLD, and deblocking, but for many more formats. The supported VDPAU formats include up through MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 ASP, H.264 / AVC, VC-1, and WMV9, but some video hardware is not capable of supporting all formats. For example software implementations see http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_itempx=Njg4Ng and http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_itempx=ODUzOQ For info on the underlying benefits which can be supported/used by any software see http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_itempx=ODEwNg (this was indeed merged in to the 2.6.35 kernel) and http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_itempx=ODcxOA -- deinterlacing is default https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/667514 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to totem in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 674868] [NEW] [time-admin] ntp server selection should not suggest stratum 1 servers
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools In the Time and Date configuration window (documented on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuTime), the servers suggested in the Time server window is inadequate. Many of the servers suggested are stratum 1 servers (for servers around Switzerland for instance I found out ntps1-0.cs.tu-berlin.de, ntps1-1.cs .tu-berlin.de, ntps1-2.uni-erlangen.de, canon.inria.fr, chronos.cru.fr, ntp.cesnet.cz, time.ien.it, ntp0.nl.net and ntp1.nl.net to be stratum 1). Stratum 1 servers are servers directly connected to a reference clock. Stratum 1 time servers should be used only by stratum 2 time servers (serving a large number of clients and / or stratum 3 servers). Stratum 1 servers should not be used by terminal clients (see http://support.ntp.org/bin/view/Servers/RulesOfEngagement) and should not be advertised in the server selection window. Failing to do so will increase stratum 1 servers load and consequently reduce their availability, reducing the accuracy of the whole system. Stratum 1 servers should be detected, removed from this selection window, and replaced by stratum 2 (or even 3) servers which are good enough for most cases. Ideally the NTP pool should be used (see bug #104525). ** Affects: gnome-system-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: time-admin -- [time-admin] ntp server selection should not suggest stratum 1 servers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/674868 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-system-tools in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 674868] Re: [time-admin] ntp server selection should not suggest stratum 1 servers
Thanks for raising this issue, but as I understand it, the only right way to solve this is to fix bug 104525. As a temporary improvement, we can simply remove Stratum 1 (and possibly 3) from our list, but how many servers would be left? We should definitely be using a custom NTP pool and leave the list empty by default. If you want this fix to happen, please get the file from [1], remove servers you think should not be present, and attach it here. I'll take care of committing this upstream. Else, I don't think there's a chance somebody will work on it... And if you want to spend your time on even more useful tasks, I guess you should contact pool.ntp.org so that they set up a GNOME or Ubuntu pool, and then we can use this as the default, after asking the security team. ;-) BTW, I'm setting the importance to Low because by default, the bug doesn't happen, and I don't think many people play with their NTP servers without knowing the name of a correct server they want to use. 1: http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-system-tools/plain/src/time/ntp- servers-list.c ** Changed in: gnome-system-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low ** Changed in: gnome-system-tools (Ubuntu) Status: New = Triaged -- [time-admin] ntp server selection should not suggest stratum 1 servers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/674868 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-system-tools in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Hello, This problem only effected my other non root directory mount spots as well. I did NOT end up fixing the problem completely just seemed to take away the symptom of not being able to execute and move files, i am still unable to change file permissions using nautilus. Its been a while since got it to work again, i don't remember why it worked but i think i added a boot option called umask to my fstab. https://wiki.umiacs.umd.edu/umiacs/index.php/Umask read up more about umask. At first i set umask=000 but apparently that is bad and allows anyone to be able change my folder permissions so now im using umask=022(more secure). You have been subscribed to a public bug: I have Toshiba Satellite R630, modification of Portege R700 with embedded intel i915 video card. After resuming from suspend mode display brightness stays same as it was before suspend, but it is impossible to changed brightness by function keys or by command line. I tried to use kernel parameter acpi_backlight=vendor, also tried to use alternative kernels from Kamal Mostafa, which he created for related problem (Bug #568611), s2ram with different options. Nothing worked. This affected me in 9.10, 10.04, and 10.10 (and I started using Ubuntu at 9.10). Usually the inhibit applet dissappears (except a slither) and the WiFi icon gets cut off.
