[Bug 532506] Re: Can't set ethernet MTU from GUI

2010-11-14 Thread Gary M
From looking at gnome-nettool 2.31.6 in the the maverick release, the
expectation of being able to edit the MTU information in place appears
to me to be unreasonable or overly optimistic.

The Configure button next to the chosen interface correctly brings up
the Network Manager configuration tool for me, where the MTU and other
settings can be changed. In contrast, gnome-nettool is designed only
for viewing network-related information. So I don't see this as an
issue of missing functionality.

No other settings can be configured in the interface information area,
and the information text gives no visual indication of being editable,
so I don't see this as an interface design / UX issue either.

Yes, that's most likely a duplicate. There's no real ETA, but the patch
has been committed in the series that will go into Natty, and it will
probably be released in a few weeks at most; then it will be up to
Ubuntu to backport it, but that shouldn't be an issue.

IMPORTANT 1: Please see the WORKAROUND a few lines below.

IMPORTANT 2: Please don't post any me too message; use the Does this bug
affect you? feature you can find a bit above this bug description on
 launchpad.

IMPORTANT 3: Do not post anything if you haven't read all comments to
verify that your point hasn't been made. If you feel tempted to stop reading
because there are too many messages, that is a strong indicator that you
shouldn't add even more comments. Developers have a tough time to find
anything if you post redundant stuff. So please abstain from doing that.

 =

So here the bug and workarounds.

For example on youtube, whilst it recognises my mouse moving over various
buttons, actual mouse clicks are not recognised. I can navigate using 'tab'
but this is very painful. I can also right click. The problem doesn't occur
with other flash players, e.g. swfdec-mozilla.

 WORKAROUND 1: Disable compiz
 WORKAROUND 2: Remove flashplugin-nonfree / flashplugin-installer and
 install from adobe
WORKAROUND 3: Open a terminal and enter:

 gksudo gedit /usr/lib/nspluginwrapper/i386/linux/npviewer

Then add: export GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=1 before the last line of text

Note: Chrome Chromium are now working fine without workaround

These workaround's have been verified to work for some users. We don't need
verification of whether or not they work for you.

This poppler library works with this PDF with the Evince viewer. This

[Bug 621927] Re: Embedded Terminal Emulator isn't giving a TERM variable

2010-11-14 Thread Sasquatch
I am aware of the work around, it's just that this 'bug' is only fixed when you
use GDM or KDM. Xfce4-terminal should set the variable too, but it never
happens. It's xterm by default, but even if you enter some garbage text, the
$TERM variable will always be linux. I find it odd that this bug is marked as
invalid for xfce4-terminal, while it's very apparent.
I think I'll just add 'export TERM=xterm' to my .bashrc or something.

[Bug 675162] [NEW] radio playlist empty after manually adding url

2010-11-14 Thread Chris
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

After a fresh install of Ubintu 10.10 the 'Radio' playlist contains lots
of radio stations. After adding a new one using an url the playlist is
empty, only containing the url I added.

These steps

[Bug 675165] [NEW] External mediakeys block mouse input

2010-11-14 Thread derLars
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

I have a USB Microsoft Media Keyboard with Mediakeys and a wireless
Logitech Revolution MX attached to my Dell StudioXPS 1640 Laptop. Every
time I press a mediakey on the external keyboard, the left mouse click
doesn't work on neither the external mouse nor the internal touchpad.
Right mouse click does work fine. If I press any mediakeys on the laptop
itself, everything is working fine.

The only way to get the mouse working again is to pull the keyboard for
a second and reattach it. The next left mouse click is not recognized
then, but all following are recognized again.

I've worked through https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting, but had to
skip the sed-filter on xev to get any results at all. Here is the abbrived
output:
[...]
 Pressed LAPTOP volume up-hotkey

MappingNotify event, serial 34, synthetic NO, window 0x0,

[...]

My global hotkeys are mapped to the according XF86-Keys (e.g. Volume
Up = XF86AudioRaiseVolume). This is a regression from Ubuntu Lucid,
where everything worked fine. I have this faulty behavior since Maverick
alpha-3 or -4.

Any Ideas how to tackle this?

[Bug 495880] Re: Extracting a file with german Umlaut in the filename doesn't work

2010-11-14 Thread .cobnet
Can somebody explain why the status in this bug is 'invalid'? On my
10.10 system (file-roller 2.32.0-0ubuntu1) it's still not working. I
also see that the importance of this bug is 'low', but for some
languages it's very critical, eg. German (like already mentioned) and
Dutch.

While unzipping
http://openofficeplaza.org/images/lesmateriaal/nl/writer/cursus_writer.zip with
file-roller I get:
caution: filename not matched: oo_oefen/Oefen_OpenOffice.org/Calc/Kopi\?ren.ods

Some people suggested to use the command line utility unzip, but that also
gave errors:
error: cannot create oo_oefen/Oefen_OpenOffice.org/Calc/Kopi?ren.ods
Invalid argument

These bugs seem to be related, but I don't know if they are really the same:

This actually is a different error report. The fact that existance of the file

necessarily related to the fact that pressing cansel leaves half copied files.

Since there're plenty of questions (2004-2010) in englisch and german forums

suggest to move compiz.desktop, metacity.desktop, gnome-wm.desktop from
.local/share/applications.

[Bug 652929] Re: maverick rc gnome-settings-dameon doesn't start

2010-11-14 Thread Lukas Z.
Hi,
I am experiencing same behavior on newly installed Ubuntu 10.10 AMD 64. First
time I have noticed this was after installation of NVidia drivers, but actually
it was the first time I have restarted the computer. Problem was appearing ever
sync irregularly.
Adding sleep 2 into the /etc/X11/Xsession.d/99x11-common_start script seems to
fix the problem so I suspect it to be some nasty race condition (thanks
Cuihtlauac).

[Bug 675205] Re: Rhythmbox crashed when clicking on next track button

2010-11-14 Thread Omer Akram
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 508859] Re: Contents of clipboard disappears when cutting (moving) files

2010-11-14 Thread Omer Akram
from upstream

Yazen, it isn't _always_ nautilus that gets the target for a paste of a file.
You could for instance paste in a text entry to get the path to the file and
other applications can do other stuff, because of this we have to use the
clipboard. Marking this as NOTABUG.

RE: [Bug 674430] Re: nautilus crashed with signal 7 in malloc()

2010-11-14 Thread Robert Wilson
You can cancel this bug report. It was one of a series of errors that came
up during installation that turned out to be the result of a faulty
keyboard. I don't think that it is worth investigating further unless I can
reproduce it.

[Bug 23293] Re: Nautilus windows should close on unmount

2010-11-14 Thread Omer Akram
there is some intelligent thinking in nautilus 2.30 for this

comment on the upstream patch that was pushed

This patch checks if a window is displaying or has displayed (in history) the
root folder of the mount using g_file_equal in addition to the existing
g_file_has_prefix checks. Note that this change along with the *existing* code
only closes windows who have navigated solely around the mount. If you have
navigated anywhere else in the window it won't be closed.

[Bug 675224] [NEW] reply icons are confusing

2010-11-14 Thread Sven Arnold
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

the icons for reply and reply all are misleading. They display an envelope
and one resp. two arrows pointing to the *right*.
I found myself mixing up reply and forward buttons several times since I expect
a reply arrow pointing to the *left*.
I think it is quite common to expect a left arrow as a symbol for reply. At
least in countries where you read from left to right.

the issue will be fixed in ubuntu 11.04 per upstream comment

I'm not really interested in a full-blown bookmarking system, but if you have
specific use cases that weren't covered there, feel free to file a new bug (one
bug per use case please).
