[Bug 675918] [NEW] Login sound plays when 'Play login sound' is un-checked
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm Bug appears to be due to the GUI representing the wrong default value. If there is no gconf key set for /desktop/gnome/sound/event_sounds the 'System - Administration - Login Screen' shows 'Play Login Sound' unchecked, but gconf reports true for the value. To reproduce: # Unset the config key $ sudo -u gdm gconftool-2 --unset /desktop/gnome/sound/event_sounds # gconf will now report true by default $ sudo -u gdm gconftool-2 --get /desktop/gnome/sound/event_sounds true # However the call used by the ubuntu patched GDM will return 'no value' $ sudo gconftool-2 --direct -g /desktop/gnome/sound/event_sounds --config-source=xml:readwrite:/var/lib/gdm/.gconf No value set for `/desktop/gnome/sound/event_sounds' # Opening the 'System - Administration - Login Screen' will show 'Play Login Sound' as false The file debian/patches/09_gdmserver_gconf_settings.patch contains the erroneous code, I'm afraid I don't really understand well enough what's going on there to provide a patch. I suspect that it's the default fall through value of false from gdm_settings_get_bool_gconf_value() As a quick fix for users, simply checking and then unchecking the 'Play Login Sound' checkbox in the GUI will explicitly set the value to false, and the login drum sound should be disabled. [Bug 666033] Re: Size of contents in volume reported is incorrect
Not a bug in nautilus. The problem exists somewhere else. Thanks to a comment upstream, I tracked the problem down to the file /proc/kcore. This file alone is reported as 128TB, even by the 'ls' command. According to: http://www.unixguide.net/linux/faq/04.16.shtml The size of this file should be equal to the amount of memory in your system. Thanks Robert. I am not sure whether this is reproducible? I think my little son shut down Ubuntu while it was loading. But I also updated Vista on the previous day. [Bug 666033] Re: Size of contents in volume reported is incorrect
Not even a kernel bug. According to: http://www.novell.com/support/viewContent.do?externalId=7004153 /proc/kcore is 128TB on all 64-bit systems, because that is the maximum amount of memory that the kernel can address. So the fix here is really to simply ignore this file when calculating disk usage in nautilus. More correctly, it should ignore all of /proc, since these files don't actually take up any disk space: they are virtual. -- Size of contents in volume reported is incorrect https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/666033 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 672873] Re: Installed GSettings schemas not detected on PowerPC
Thank you Milan, that's what I was looking for I wasn't sure where to get patches based on patch numbers. Patch 9211d2b is not applicable to the glib in 10.10 as the gvdb_table_get_raw_value is still called gvdb_table_get_value (the code is the same in both, just a function name change as far as I can tell). But patch c84441 did apply correctly, though it did not fix the problem for me. It's possible I made an error or there's something else missing but that's the result thus far. [Bug 62842] Re: Rhythmbox daap with itunes 7 doesn't work correctly
I agree with @Artem Baguinski. If the Ubuntu program does not support this newer protocol, then the program should say something like iTunes 7 and above are not supported. I believe that the Apple iTunes client will advertise it's version, so hopefully this would be easy to detect. Currently, Rhythmbox says it's connecting to the remote iTunes share, and will sit there forever. This is misleading and bad behavior. ** Summary changed: - Rhythmbox daap with itunes 7 doesn't work correctly + Rhythmbox daap with itunes 7, 8, 9, 10 doesn't work correctly -- Rhythmbox daap with itunes 7, 8, 9, 10 doesn't work correctly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/62842 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Then when I need to access to the wireless I move the switch again, what I expected is that the wireless card is turned on, but instead my computer got stuck. I get a black screen with some lines, the last line indicating: *checking battery state The Caps Lock key, does not seems to do nothing, I try some combinations Ctrl+Alt+F1, Ctrl+Alt+Backspace, press the power button, turn the wireless card off again, and nothing works. I was forced to press the power button by 10 seconds and to loose all my work. 2) When I try to hibernate my laptop, it gets stuck in the same place as I mentioned in (1), the only difference is that in this case, if I press Ctrl+Alt+F1 I get the screen of the TTY1, but my keyboard inputs are not recognized, then I can not login neither recover anything of my session or work. 3) I am working with the AC adapter connected, I unplugged the adapter. What I expect is that my laptop continues working normally, instead I get a message that my computer battery is critically low and *SOMETIMES* (sometimes not) my computer tries to hibernate, and as I mentioned in (2) when it tries to hibernate, my computer freezes. Maybe that's totally offtopic, but aside from Windows, how other *nix distributions are handling the problem ? [Bug 676204] [NEW] WPA problem eeePC 901
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-nettool Using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - the Lucid Lynx in an eeePC 901 updated via an ethernet cable to date. I can connect to WEP access points but I have serious problems connecting to WPA personal access points. I have tried several different access points with no success. At best I can connect occasionally if I cold boot but the connection is dropped after a few minutes. If you retry to connect thereafter there is no success. If you examine the interface during the connection using the network tools you see that the interface has acquired a valid IP address, mask, gateway, etc. (via DCHP). Occasionally a connection is acquired with valid IP addresses, but there is no connectivity, this happens rarely. All access points are OK when accessed using Macs, PCs and smart phones. [Bug 667071] Re: archive manager
I have found a workaround. Something messes up file associations for the 'folder' type. I can't find the reason, but here's how I have fixed it: * Open the Computer from the Places menu * open a partition, which does have some folders in it * right click on any folder * select Open with Other application from the context menu * select the File browser as the app to open with * make sure the remember this application for 'folder' files is checked * click OK This solved the problem for me, hope it helps you too :) -- archive manager https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/667071 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 676072] Re: large image not correctly displayed in full screen
What seems to be happening it that I'm able to scroll too far to the right. The corrupted part of the image actually does not exist: the original image ends where the corruption starts. Reproducibility seems to depend on the zoom level and perhaps the part of the image I was viewing before switching to full screen and method of switching to full screen. Note that I have the Fullscreen with double- click plugin enabled. I can reliable reproduce this by opening the image linked above (opens at a zoom level of 6%), change the zoom level to 1 on 1 with Ctrl-0, switch to full screen by double-clicking and then scrolling all the way to the right using the scrollbar. I'm using Compiz and have a screen resolution of 1920x1200. -- large image not correctly displayed in full screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/676072 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to eog in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 676084] Re: gnome panel crashes on right-mouse-button down and fast move
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
