[Bug 539477] Re: Video out hot key sends super + p + return on many upcoming Dell HP systems
Just a heads up, I use Xmonad as the Gnome window manager and this patch somewhat broke Xmonad for me. Xmonad, by default, uses a combination of Mod+p (what Mod is is configurable, in my case I've set it to the Super_L) to open the Gnome run dialog. So after getting the latest updates, pressing Super+p just flashes the screen briefly and does not open the Gnome run application dialog, as it did before. I assume that this is the new assumed behavior, related to video modes. This machine is _not_ a Dell or a HP laptop. It's a self-built desktop with Asus P5Q, Intel Q9550, Nvidia GTX 260 using the Nvidia proprietary drivers. So is there any way to disable this new behavior, or is it really hard- coded to gnome-settings-daemon? I can live with having to use a different key combination to start programs, but would really like to use Super+p in the future too, as my fingers are somewhat used to that particular combination. -- Video out hot key sends super + p + return on many upcoming Dell HP systems https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/539477 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 678109] [NEW] Ubuntu 10.10 Lose Wireless Network Connectivity when on battery power.
Public bug reported: I just did a clean install of 10.10 on an ACER Aspire 5515. It had 10.04 up to that point, with no issues at all. Now, when I unplug the AC, I lose wireless network connectivity. The Network Connection status shows that it tries to connect, and it eventually asks for password. I re-enter p/w but it won't connect. If I plug the power cord back in, it still won't connect until I restart the system. If I start up in battery mode, it won't connect at all. I have the broadcom driver installed, same as with 10.04. I'm really just at user level, but have installed every version since 9.04 on the same machine with no issues. Any suggestions on how to correct this, as the laptop goes with me a lot, and I have to be able to use it on battery and still have wireless connection. [Bug 678203] [NEW] evolution 2.30 is an out of date version
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Evolution 2.30 in Ubuntu Maverick is outdated. As Novell suggests Evolution 2.32 is the latest stable and, most important, Fedora 14 is using Evolution 2.32 You can check it here: http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=205101 We had the same situation with Ubuntu Lucid. At that time I was told that Evolution 2.30 was buggy, but after 6 months, the same version, and same identical subrelease that we were talking about, suddenly became not buggy anymore and it was included in Maverick. My two cents: if Novell states this is the last stable there is no reason to use it after 6 months. Furthermore, we have evidence that this version is being used on another distribution. Another two cents gift: you've included btrfs in maverick, where the Volume Manager is in a NO-GO status, (not possibile to assign size to subvolumes, no patches for the kernel to use df... and so on), you've implemented LXC which is still in beta status (where a container is able to switch the machine off, because /proc is not isolated and you can run: echo b /proc/sysrq-trigger). In other words you've included software where their status, is stated from their developers and from the users, as BETA, but you're scared from a software that is being delivered as STABLE and which is a desktop software, really not dangerous for the whole system :) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10 Package: evolution 2.30.3-1ubuntu7.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.35-23.40-generic 2.6.35.7 Uname: Linux 2.6.35-23-generic i686 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia Architecture: i386 Date: Sun Nov 21 18:30:43 2010 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat - Release i386 (20101007) ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, no user) LANG=it_IT.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: evolution ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 maverick -- evolution 2.30 is an out of date version https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/678203 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

If I click the x (close-button) Ubuntu asks me if I want to force-close nautilus (that's what I normally do in this situation). This error occurs EVERY TIME! On askubuntu you can find my detailed description including a video of the bug and a nautilus-debug-log: http://askubuntu.com/questions/14290/nautilus-crash-when-merging-overwriting-files Copied from http://askubuntu.com/questions/14290/nautilus-crash-when- merging-overwriting-files: On my Ubuntu 10.10, whenever I want to copy some files/folders over some other files/folders, or when I try to empty the trash, nautilus crashes! Example: I have a folder with some files. Now I want to overwrite this folder with a folder with the same name, same files, but some additional files, the merge window comes up, I choose merge and nautilus crashes (does not respond, when I press the close button I can force close it). Some times it even does the copying/emptying (trash), but it always crashes! This happens when copying to the same partition/ntfs partition/netshares, but not when I make a new folder and copy the files/folders into that (without overwriting anything). On a netshare, it's even possible to merge these files afterwards with another computer! dmesg/syslog/messages does not show any entry related to that problem. Does anyone have a solution for this very annoying problem? EDIT: dpkg -l nautilus* (see output in pastebin) EDIT2: I found out, nautilus already crashes before clicking replace/merge (as soon as the question appeares. [Bug 678265] [NEW] 'do nothing' option for critical battery removed - prevents battery calibration
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager The option to 'do nothing' when the battery reaches critical level has been removed. This means I am unable in Ubuntu to run my battery down to 0% to recalibrate it. This was introduced in version 10.04 which means I haven't been able to re-calibrate my battery in months and it's starting to suffer as a result with the capacity constantly reducing. [Bug 677929] Re: users-admin: create new user with dot/period fails
What's the exact behavior of the installer? It doesn't use the same code at all, so that's purely a coincidence it it suffers from the same problem. Don't worry about the importance, though: I'm currently discussing with an adduser developer, and the fact that I set it to Low doesn't mean it won't be considered. Though if you say the installer is affected, we may want to raise priority - but that will be more important when we know what the fix is, and when backporting will have to be considered. Personnally, I think chown's behavior regarding the dot is silly, since ':' already serves the same purpose (maybe that's a legacy). Anyway, you can always quote the username if you want, and users-admin will ensure chown correctly interprets a username with a dot in it. So I'd rather fix adduser. -- users-admin: create new user with dot/period fails https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/677929 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-system-tools in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 144406] Re: some windows do not appear in the window list
One note of caution: the new option in workarounds is called Java Taskbar Fix. There is a similarly named option Java Window Fix but that is different. Be sure that the new option is available and selected. I have checked imagej and when I enable Java Taskbar Fix, all windows remain on the taskbar. All but one go away when a modal dialog is opened, and when the dialog box is closed, they appear as expected. I have installed version 1.43I. I am not familiar with windows contours that AntoineM mentions, but one solution may be to not build all of compiz. I was not successful in building compiz from source---although I didn't try too hard. Re- building just the workarounds shared library is much easier and less likely to break other parts of compiz. -- some windows do not appear in the window list https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/144406 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to libwnck in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

When you say that gedit think it's a weird encoding that is correct to assume. [Bug 677929] Re: users-admin: create new user with dot/period fails
Milan, I don't know if the urgency of this issue is low. Ubuntu installer is affected as well, and I've read on forums about some novice user not being able to perform the installation as of this issue. Anyway, as I wrote in my bug report, perhaps the dot should be removed because it's used by the chown command: chown user.group file, as an alternative to the colon. -- users-admin: create new user with dot/period fails https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/677929 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-system-tools in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 677929] Re: users-admin: create new user with dot/period fails
Milan, first of all, as I can see the adduser command has a switch --force-badname that can be used in this case. But, if you use this option every kind of strange character will be used. In other words, if you want to use the dot, you need to pass this option only when dot(s) appear in the username, and not for the rest. Regarding Ubuntu installer, it's not something that happened to me. I just came accross this issue on a usenet newsgroup. A person was telling that the installation was stuck at the point of creating a user. After a while he revealed that he was trying to create a user such as dr.john (god bless the doctors! :-) ) In other words, you can consider fixing this issue as well, because it's almost the same issue: you need to use --force-badname Anyway, a man page from BSD says the the dot is there for compatibility with older version of this command: http://www.manpagez.com/man/8/chown/ Perhaps somebody understood that using a dot within a username it was a very common need for the users (in facts, for instance, the dot is very common in the e-mails: name.surn...@domain). In other words I changed my idea and you're right: you can fix the tool and allow *only* dots otherwise, do it the other way: allow only _ and - It's your choice :-) -- users-admin: create new user with dot/period fails https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/677929 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-system-tools in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 657908] Re: F-Spot crashes when started in Kubuntu
Confirmed here, too: to me this happens when I try to import new photos: when I click the Open button in the dialog, after having choosen the directory to import from, it crashes with the same error. -- F-Spot crashes when started in Kubuntu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/657908 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to f-spot in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
