[Bug 678421] [NEW] Error in ~/.profile halts the X startup
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm After adding function AddPath { PATH=$1:$PATH } to $HOME/.profile made the Xorg startup fail. (At that moment I had already forgotten the changes made to the .profile). As I had autologin that meant it kept trying to login and finally showed me the graphics reconfiguration screen. That sent me to a huge hunt for xorg conf and setup problems. Anyway finally tracked this down. I had used bash syntax in .profile file whereas it was run with sh. This is not a bug per se but I think a user mistake in .profile shouldn't bring the whole xorg startup to a halt as it does with autologin. I propose running user .profile and .xprofile scripts so that Xsession script continues running even if they have errors. I'm not sure whether this change would have some negative effects as well. 1) Ubuntu Lucid, Linux egon-laptop 2.6.32-25-generic #45-Ubuntu SMP Sat Oct 16 19:48:22 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux 2) gdm 2.30.2.is.2.30.0-0ubuntu4 ** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Error in ~/.profile halts the X startup https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/678421 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 144406] Re: some windows do not appear in the window list
Thanks Paul, you were right. The workaround was not completely installed, and I enabled the Java window fix. To install the fix, you have to execute a make install command *also* in the metadata directory of the source. (That is missing from the instructions, but it should have been obvious, sorry.) To AntoineM: After the first failure I tried to install the compiz from the suggested PPA source. It depended on kdebase for some reason, what I did not want to install. At the end I had some packages installed from PPA (libdecoration0 probably), and some from the regular site. [Bug 118800] Re: Passwords should not be required when creating accounts
(If you post a question to a bug please subscribe yourself to the bug so you can see the reply. Amr I've subscribed you this bug so you can see the reply :) ) Amr: The answer is somewhat complicated and boils down to it is probably encrypted on disk. Empathy passwords are stored in the GNOME keyring, which by default is encrypted on disk using your login password. It is possible to override this and use unsafe storage with your GNOME keyring in which case it will be stored on disk in something that amounts to plain text. Once a keyring is unlocked all passwords can be viewed in their original unencrypted form. Typically, when you log in your keyring unlocked. -- Passwords should not be required when creating accounts https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/118800 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 680019] Re: Evolution crashes on search attempt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 678018] Re: mi casa
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it. Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally, in the report please include: 1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System - About Ubuntu. 2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by checking in Synaptic. 3) What happened and what you expected to happen. The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures . Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make your bug report much more complete. [Bug 665330] Re: Hide Junk messages in Search folders
** Description changed: Binary package hint: evolution + + SRU JUSTIFICATION: + A minimal patch that hides messages marked as Junk if and only if the current folder to display is a virtual, search folder. Standard folders such as pure IMAP folders will still show the message. Furthermore, there is a Junk folder which already groups messages marked as Junk, so the risk to actually lose a message is minimal. + + TEST CASE: + 1) Create a search folder that lists a number of messages from one or various sources (mail folders) + 2) From the search folder, mark a message from the list as Junk. + 3) Navigate to the Junk folder, make sure the marked message is listed. + 4) Navigate to the original, source folder for the marked message; make sure the message is listed. + 5) Navigate back to the search folder; make sure the message is not visible. + 6) (optional) mark the message back as Not Junk + + I case of failure, the message will not be visible in the Junk folder, or not visible in its original folder. For a failed test case, the message could also still be visible in the new search folder. + For a successful test case, the message marked as Junk will no longer be listed in the Search folder, but will be visible in both the Junk folder and its original folder. + + --- The upstream bug 617953 has a patch which prevents junk messages from being visible in search folders.
