[Bug 685783] [NEW] Search folder for Unread mail displays read mail as well after application launch
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution I have a search folder that displays unread mail. It is configured to Include threads NONE. Find items: IF ALL CONDITIONS ARE MET. STATUS IS NOT READ. And in a few specific folders (some imap, some local). When I Launch Evo the contents of this folder contains some unread mail, but also a lot of read mail, some dating back years. I have looked, but have found no apparent pattern regarding mails included into this view. Sometimes unread mail show up as the last email in the view and reading it causes a new one to take its place. I.e. all unread mail is not shown from start, and reading one will cause another to take its place. This conditions goes away after some time, some sort of refresh is required for it to do so (new mail arriving does not fix it). But I seem to be able to force it correct by searching for something bogus in the unread mail view and then switch off the search filter again. [Bug 408317] Re: Gimp freezes and makes whole system lagging when opening large file
This is really a GIMP bug because of too big memory usage when working with 3.9 MiB jpeg file. I've tested that jpeg file with other image viewing/edidint applications and didn't noticed such big memory usage, like with GIMP. Computer has 3Gb of RAM and no swap. I simply open image with 3 different applications and look how many they use memory with htop. Then I try to zoom in several times, then zoom out and finally - rotate image to the right (90 angle). Results of my tests: Eog 2.30.0-0ubuntu1 : 400Mb (13,5% of total memory) after opening, zoom doesn't increase memory usage, ~800Mb during rotate; Shotwell viewer 0.7.2-0ubuntu2 : ~40Mb (only ~1% of total memory) after opening, 1Gb (33%) after zoom, rotating doesn't increase memory usage (if I rotate before zoom, then memory usage remains ~40Mb !!!); GIMP 2.6.8-2ubuntu1.1 : 1,3 Gb (42% of total memory) after opening, zoom doesn't increase memory usage, increased memory usage during rotate and kernel killed GIMP... So, vietnam isn't right - GIMP uses much more memory for the same image comparing to other programs. Maybe we need to test with latest GIMP version 2.6.11 and report a bug to upstream if memory usage is too big? vietnam wrote on 2010-01-27: Gimp, like other programs, load the file like a BMP and need to load every single pixels. Gimp need to load 14000 X 8000 pixels... that about an image with a size of 924.4 MB. ** Also affects: baltix Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/408317 Title: Gimp freezes and makes whole system lagging when opening large file -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 685596] Re: users-admin edit dialogs don't show up
Ah, sorry, I didn't know you weren't using GNOME. The gnome-settings- daemon part is not essential at all: the idea was only to use the PID of a process that is known to be running - you can use any program name here. The polkitd log contains the explanation to your problem: ** (polkitd:1592): DEBUG: subject is in session /org/freedesktop/ConsoleKit/Session2 (local=1 active=0) Your session is not considered as active. Are you working over VNC or another remote desktop system? This is the usual cause of this issue, there's a bug 187585 about that. So the current bug is that users-admin doesn't report correctly when authentication couldn't be obtained. The rest is a problem elsewhere. It shouldn't be hard to fix at all, would you try to write a patch? [Bug 83604] Re: ntpdate 1:4.2.2.p4+dfsg-1ubuntu2 has a flawed configuration file.
Mika's patch is certainly still applicable in Natty. I think I'm going to go ahead and apply that; it seems common to have an empty /etc/ntp.conf due to this (I had one myself) and this is an easy workaround. There's a separate bug 427775 for more general logic problems with /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate, and a separate bug 583994 for replacing ntpdate altogether. I'm also going to reopen the system-tools-backends task on this bug, due to this comment in the original bug report: it defaults to the ntp servers defined in /etc/ntp.conf, an empty file; which makes debconf to *not* create a proper /etc/ntp.conf if one decided to install ntpd on a whim (It's actually dpkg, not debconf, but the basic point stands.) Because of this, system-tools-backends should take care not to create /etc/ntp.conf as an empty file if it does not already exist. ** Changed in: system-tools-backends (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid = Triaged ** Changed in: system-tools-backends (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to system-tools-backends in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/83604 Title: ntpdate 1:4.2.2.p4+dfsg-1ubuntu2 has a flawed configuration file. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Mika, I'm dropping the debian/ntpdate.default part of your patch. It's correct, and I agree that all other things being equal this documentation should be brought up to date, but it's going to be very common to have modified the NTPSERVERS line that immediately follows it (or to be upgrading a system where somebody else modified that line), and changing that text would I think result in a lot of dpkg conffile prompts. I'd rather avoid that when it isn't strictly necessary. [Bug 578380] Re: [regression] can't print from evince
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 680628 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/680628 Thanks Adrian for the suggestions. I've followed the steps you recommended on https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/419143/comments/95 but I'm posting the results here as it seems like i) bug 419143 is specific for the spurious '0a' in cairo generated PDF and I'm not experiencing that particular issue; and ii) you mention that maybe this bug report is not a duplicate of 680628 ... Anyway, using the same simple 'test.pdf' file that I attached to this bug report previously, this is what I've found: a) Check that using poppler to generate the PostScript then sending the PS file directly to the printer bypassing any cups filters works: pdftops file.pdf lpr -o raw file.ps The 'test.ps' file produced using pdftops fails to print (as explained before, the job is sent to the printer, the printer processes the job, but nothing comes out of the printer) (attached: test-pdftops.ps) b) Then use cairo to convert the PDF to PS. This can be done by opening the file in evince and printing to a PS file. Print with lpr -o raw. If this fails but (a) works it is a cairo bug. This works. (attached: test-evince-printtops.ps) Printing to a .ps file from OpenOffice and then sending the .ps file to the printer using lpr(1) also works. (attached: test2.odt, test2-openoffice-printtops.ps) And printing to a .ps file from acrobat also works (but this was expected, because printing from acrobat worked in any case). As reported previously, printing from Gimp directly also failed. But printing from Gimp to a ps file and then sending the postscript file to the printer using lpr(1) also works. (attached: gimptest.gif, gimptest-gimp-printtops.ps) Seems like it's not a cairo problem but a poppler problem then?
