[Bug 689621] Re: evolution crashes on delete on closing a folder

2010-12-14 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 689523] Re: Uninstalling Evolution through USC does not remove evolution-common

the bug is a duplicate, there has some open evolution bugs about the
fact that the menu entry should be in the same binary than the commands,
software-center could still be smarter about uninstalling common or data
binaries though

evolution 2.32 is in natty, staying on a tested serie was a decision and
a right one since the natty upgrade showed that the code which is
migrating the configuration on disk to their new location is buggy and
break contact lists in several cases, other issues have been raised as
well and patches are backport to the 2.30 version for issues reported

[Bug 689482] Re: evolution crash when vievshow images.

[Bug 690119] [NEW] Trash applet could not be loaded

Public bug reported:

When logging into the Gnome-Desktop a dialog appeared, saying that gnome-panel
could not load the Trash applet. It asks if the this should be ignored or if
the panel should be deleted from the configuration.
This bug might be similar to LP bug #/426185
I didn't subscribe this bug, because somebody asked to report this bug with
$ubuntu-bug gnome-panel

The user of this machine informed about this error by telephone I logged into
his machine with ssh and reported the bug with $ubuntu-bug gnome-panel

updates are installed automatically, it should be up to date.

Bug 658777 was a different issue, but still one that could have caused a
similar crash, and I fixed that one already.

We could just initialize the pointer that I think is being wrongly freed
here, but the condition that causes it to happen shouldn't really occur
anyway, so I'd like to try and figure that out too. How often does this
normally happen?

[Bug 683790] Re: natty alpha gdm / unity does not start

2010-12-14 Thread Nicolas Dechesne
I am also seing this, even though I am able to switch to other console
and log in text mode.

- I could create a launcher and start 'unity'.
- I could log in using gdm, but then unity launcher does not come up
- from a different console: service gdm status returns 'started/running'.
restarting gdm does not fix the problem.

I am running 11.04 development packages, upgraded today, on a lenovo
R400 (Intel graphics).

Not really, out of fact that the number of bug reports is way higher

your patch and subscribing ubuntu-sponsors though, sponsoring request
get reviewed actively by people with upload rights

[Bug 690181] [NEW] Evolution crashes when clicking on the [CC] button in the compose window

2010-12-14 Thread Pete Goodall
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I'm composing an e-mail where I clicked on an e-mail in my Sent folder
and chose Edit as new message. One of the e-mail addresses was
incorrect, so I deleted it and tried to add it with autocomplete from my
address book. For some reason Evolution didn't seem to be bothering
with autocomplete, so I deleted what I had written for the new address
and tried clicking on [Cc] to search through my address books. As soon
as I click on the [Cc] button evolution crashes.

I started Evolution again and a message popped up asking if I wanted to
recover a partially composed message. I chose [ Recover ] and
immediately tried clicking [Cc] again. Once again Evolution crashed.

I started Evolution again, chose to not recover the partially composed
message and instead clicked on the new mail button. I clicked on [To]
this time with the same result.

I have a local address book, two Google address books, and a LDAP server
all configured in Evolution (if that helps). Please let me know what
debugging information I can get you. For some reason apport is not

2010-12-14 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

** Visibility changed to: Public

** This bug is no longer flagged as a security vulnerability

Re: [Bug 685785] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in __libc_free()

We could just initialize the pointer that I think is being wrongly freed

anyway, so I'd like to try and figure that out too. How often does this
 normally happen?

It happens about once or twice per week, perhaps depending on how often I
suspend and resume.

I could try plugging in a USB keyboard repeatedly and see if that triggers
the problem, but at present I have no recipe.

[Bug 690119] Re: Trash applet could not be loaded

2010-12-14 Thread Sebastien Bacher
So could you try to run /usr/lib/gnome-applets/trashapplet on a command
line while the dialog asking to reload is displayed and then click on
reload and see what is printed on stdout?

[Bug 690189] [NEW] nautilus crash when autorun for media is on

2010-12-14 Thread Chrescht
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When inserting a media device, e.g. USB flash drive or harddisk or a CD the
following happens:

- all open nautilus windows stop responding and close 6-10 seconds after
insertion.
All icons disappear from the Desktop.
- after 3 to 5 more seconds the icons reappear and the media is properly
mounted. I can open a new nautilus and access the media.

For this to happen I have to have the media_autorun_never key set to false.
ps: the time measures above may vary from one machine to another. This is on a
Thinkpad T42.

Workaround:
- set key /apps/nautilus/preferences/media_autorun_never to true in
gconf-editor.

cheers.

[Bug 689741] Re: libgtk2.0-0 performance problem due to unused cruft from 10 years ago

2010-12-14 Thread eXtace
The reason why I posted to ubuntu/launchpad, is that I don't expect the
upstream to really care about this enough to release a new version in a
timely manner, as its not something that directly causes crashes or a
security leak, it just causes a big performance drop for some
applications. I would have thought the distro maintainers may want it
out faster as it in theory will improve the overall performance of the
distribution in all of its releases, which is a huge benefit to the
millions of end users.

[Bug 248355] Re: Evince doesn't anti-alias graphics

Evince is not perfect for reading Google (e)books. See attachments in which
Evince makes parts of the text completely disappear, wheras Foxit renders them
well.
