[Bug 692893] [NEW] keyboard preferences won't persist restart

2010-12-21 Thread andrea-abelli
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

I'm using Maverick, and I've installed it using a USA layout.
Later on I changed the layout to USA International (AltGr dead keys) and
deleted the USA one.
Now, whatever I do in the keyboard-preferences dialog (aka, apply system
wide, etc..) as I reboot the keyboard layout switcher is loaded in the tray
bar and the USA layout is still there. If I delete it again, it will
disappear until the next reboot.

[Bug 692791] Re: Make Evolution's uninstall painless

2010-12-21 Thread Chris Wilson
Thanks a lot for reporting this, however a papercut should be a flaw in
the default installation of Ubuntu that does not involve the addition or
removal of any packages. For more information on what constitutes a
paper cut, please see here http://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut

[Bug 692791] Re: Make Evolution's uninstall painless

2010-12-21 Thread Chris Wilson
I'm not sure how to go about solving this problem, but I can guess that
it is either:

- Aptitude/USC not being aware of what packages should be removed with Evolution
- Evolution being badly packaged to that Aptitude/USC don't know where to find
all the packages

Can anyone else shed some light on this?

[Bug 661283] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in cairo_set_source_surface()

2010-12-21 Thread Matt Zimmerman
I've had gnome-settings-daemon continue to crash on me regularly in
10.10 (bug 685785), but haven't seen this particular trace recur and I
don't have any way to reproduce it. I filed this over two months ago, so
to be honest I'm having trouble remembering the exact circumstances
which surrounded the crash.

It looks as if another possible NULL return is if
gdk_pixmap_foreign_new_for_screen fails. In any case, someone should be
checking for an error return and not dereferencing the null pointer,
right?

I'm surprised that ~/.xsession-errors wasn't automatically attached by
apport; if it's routinely useful for diagnosing crashes like this one,
that should probably be changed.

[Bug 667717] Re: additional file bar cannot be added permanently

2010-12-21 Thread Matthias Go
It's the same use case(s) why you use an additional view pane at all:
- you can use dragdrop
- you can open/see different directories simultaneously

You should give the user the choice of adding the additional view pane
permanently. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who would appreciate that.

Same problem here. And I'm using a SATA HDD and a slow processor.

I think that is a problem related to the hard drive disc (because the

[Bug 692980] [NEW] Layout switcher does not switch by shortcut

2010-12-21 Thread vestel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

HISTORY:
I set Keyboard Preferences to 3 keyboard layouts: USA, Rus (Russia), Jpn
(Japan).
Shortcut for layout switching is set to Alt+Space.
When I press shortcut it cycles through the layouts normally, no matter which
Alt is pressed Left Alt or Right Alt.
Current keyboard layout is changed every time I press a shortcut.

ACTION:
I add Lat (Latvia) to keyboard layout list.

ACTUAL:
When current language set to USA, pressing shortcut, it switches to Rus as
expected.
When current language is not USA, pressing shortcut, does not affects current
language.

EXPECTED:
When current language set to USA, pressing shortcut, it switches to Rus.
When current language is not USA, pressing shortcut, it switches to next
keyboard layout.

DETAILS:
I can switch current language with a mouse.
Both shortcuts (LAlt+Space/RAlt+Space) don't work normally when Latvian
keyboard layout is available.
Deleting Jpn (Japan) keyboard layout does not affect the bug.
Deleting Lat (Latvian) layout fix shortcut behaviour.

[Bug 580206] Re: gnome-help crashed (segmentation fault) while printing

2010-12-21 Thread Cesare Mastroianni
Sorry to bother You with further comments.

Let me complain about this bug management method.

I notified You a REAL bug. I spent many time (hours) to investigate the
problem according to the instruction You wrote me. I discovered that the
crash vanished when running the application from inside valgrind. I
reported the data output from gdb and valgrind. I'm not expert: I'm not
able to decrypt these info.

Last You invited me to try with Maverick. But I CANNOT try with
Maverick, since I never installed it.

Then the bug expired.

Ok, but the bug is still here. There is no way to print the manpages,
because the help program crashes when try to print.

Merry Christmas.

[Bug 647466] Re: gcalctool window is not resizable

2010-12-21 Thread Bob
Maybe this is a duplicate of this one and not the other way around?

Ubuntu 10.10 using gcalctool 5.30.0.

Is it possible to roll back to version 5.28.2 from version 5.32.0?

I need to be able to resize the window as adding or subtracting many
entry's the entry's get lost from sight so it is impossible to check
before totalling in version 5.30.0. They just get lost from view.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance, Bob.

[Bug 692473] Re: Its appear when I click About Ubuntu. The requested URI ghelp:about-ubuntu is invalid. Unable to load page

2010-12-21 Thread Charlie Kravetz
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

I can not reproduce this issue. I do not have anything about ubuntu in
my Xubuntu menus.

Thanks!

[Bug 693038] [NEW] files missing in libgtk2.0-doc

2010-12-21 Thread Stefan W
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libgtk2.0-doc

libgtk2.0-doc should contain the tutorial and the faqs (at least it says
so in

/usr/share/doc-base/gtk2-faq
/usr/share/doc-base/gtk2-tutorial

and it does in debian) but doesn't. Strangely, it does contain the
images.

I'm refering to version 2.22.0-0ubuntu1 as used in Ubuntu 10.10.

[Bug 692791] Re: Lots of Evolution packages are left behind after uninstallation

2010-12-21 Thread Chris Wilson
It's related, though I'm pretty certain that it's not just evolution-
common that's the subject of this particular report. When browsing USC
for 'evolution', I notice a lot of installed packages that are a part of
evolution. evolution-data-server, libebook, libdataserver are just a
few. It seems that a lot of Evolution's back-end packages are being left
behind after it is removed.

libebook and libedataserver are shared libraries and are needed for
other things too (try purging them) though evolution-data-server should
be removed(there might be other reasons for that too). In either case a

[Bug 692791] Re: Lots of Evolution packages are left behind after uninstallation

2010-12-21 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
The package manager will be able to deal with this correctly; that is,
once other packages requiring evolution shared libs are also removed
(then it should show up as no longer needed and removable with e.g. apt-
get autoremove). Gnome-panel, for example, is one of the packages which
require evolution-related packages (libecal and evolution-data-server
(as a Recommends) at least in this case).

Evolution or e-d-s packages themselves don't seem to have an issue, so I'm
marking this as Invalid.
However, I'm also re-opening the USC task because I feel this is instead
related to prompting the user about packages which are no longer needed and
removing them (analogous to Apt's autoremove).

In all cases, you should still be able to install thunderbird with no
adverse effects.

[Bug 685509] Re: Flood of DEBUG messages in .xsession-errors

2010-12-21 Thread Vegar
A simple workaround (if I can call it that) for this issue is to symlink
.xsession-errors to /dev/null, but you have to do it each time you log in:
rm .xsession-errors ln -s /dev/null .xsession-errors

This should be an easy issue to fix - just recompile the package with
debug messages disabled. Can anyone official comment on this? When can
we expect a fix?

[Bug 692791] Re: Lots of Evolution packages are left behind after uninstallation and some are removed without a clear rationale

2010-12-21 Thread Michael Vogt
Thanks for your bugreport. The package manager (apt-get, aptitude, USC)
is able to deal with the situation via the auto-installed information.
This was pointed out by Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre already. But because of
bug #424643 this auto-installed information is not properly written for
the default install packages. The reason is that apt-get install tasks
in the base install not meta-packages and in the task all libs are
explicted listed (and not pulled in via dependencies).

About the other aspect of the bug that is releated to USC. What exaclty
is the bug here? USC will use the auto-installed information to remove

display a list of packages that are going to be removed.

I can confirm this with up-to-date Natty. You might not want to remove
the battery when running a 2.6.37-rc6 based kernel, as this can cause a
system crash/oops: https://lkml.org/lkml/2010/12/19/90

It occurred after upgrading to Lucid, and as most of the subscribers, I
suspected g-m-s. However, I started, by incidence, a session of another
user, which was almost virgin and did not show this high CPU usage. So I
tried to figure out, what could be the difference and, by luck, I
stopped remote control (vinagre) in my session which brought me back to
almost 0% CPU usage. I then tried the different options for vinagre and
found that it was the notification icon (put to only show up when
somebody is connected), which caused the the high CPU usage. All works
fine with either no or permanent notification.

However, I could not reproduce the high CPU usage afterwards. Maybe a
matter of the sequence, so whether g-s-m is stqrted after or before
vinagre.

Hope this helps at least some of the affected.

[Bug 611983] Re: [SRU] Evolution [Open Link In Browser] not working for new eBay email hyperlinks

2010-12-21 Thread Martin Pitt
Note, the lucid upload in -proposed queue doesn't include version
2.28.3-0ubuntu10.1 which is currenlty in lucid-proposed for bug 229187,
but didn't get any feedback yet. If verification of that fails, this
upload is ok, but otherwise it might be preferable to include the
previous patch.

[Bug 692791] Re: Lots of Evolution packages are left behind after uninstallation and some are removed without a clear rationale

2010-12-21 Thread Fire
Removing evolution, USC proposes me to install evolution-exchange and
evolution-couchdb and this is ok.
But there are other packages related to it that should be removed
(automatically) with evolution evolution-exchange evolution-couchdb
evolution-indicator evolution-common evolution-data-server-common
evolution-data-server evolution-plugins libevolution and others.
Trying to remove manually some of those, i don't know wich one,
ubuntu-desktop; indicator-applet-session; gnome-applets; gnome-panel are
removed too, without a clear rationale (or maybe i'm just stupid) .

[Bug 693205] [NEW] Output Volume slider bar legend is misleading

2010-12-21 Thread Todd N
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

The 100% label on the top Output Volume slider bar in the Sound
Preferences control panel is misleading.

I interpreted the label to be a value linked to the setting of the bar
--I could see the slider tab all the way to the right (encompassing 100%
of the slider,) so logically the volume is at 100% output as shown in
the label.

But, after months of occasionally distorted sound output, I've finally
discovered that the meaning of the 100% label is to mark a point on the
slider, rather than to reflect the value of the slider.

My expectation is that the UI would clearly represent the value of the
Output Volume.

In this case, I think that could be done by creating a different label that
shows the output volume percentage programmatically.
I would remove the current 100% label, or make the delineation between 100%
output and points further the the right (where output distortion are likely to
occur) far more apparent.

[Bug 693224] [NEW] Gnome-Calculator: Period key in NumPad doesn't work as a decimal input for Spanish Locale

2010-12-21 Thread Sergio D Marquez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gcalctool

In spanish, to indicate a period you use a comma, for example 1/2=0,5 not 0.5.
But when you use the gnome calculator it is faster yo use the period key a
decimal, and it is used that way in Windows calculator and in Openoffice Calc,
so it should be the default.
