[Bug 694904] Re: need to create a login acct

2010-12-28 Thread Robert Roth
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

I see that this bug is low priority. I have just upgraded my hardware

will have upgraded their hardware now in the near future (Christmas?) I
hope that the priority is raised soon!

[Bug 500398] Re: Vtech Kidizoom camera USB doesn't mount

2010-12-28 Thread rapha
here is a solution to fix it:

create 2 rules in a /etc/udev/rules.d/90-kidizoom.rules with this:

KERNEL==sd?1, SUBSYSTEMS==scsi, ACTION==add, ATTRS{vendor}==VTech   ,
ATTRS{model}==Kidizoom, SYMLINK+=kidizoom,
RUN+=/path/to/mount-script %k
KERNEL==sd?1, SUBSYSTEMS==scsi, ACTION==remove, ENV{ID_VENDOR}==VTech*,
 RUN+=/path/to/umount-script %k

Dont forget to reload udev: sudo service udev restart

Write the mount-script:

#!/bin/bash

mk() {
pumount /dev/$1
sleep 1
pmount -t vfat /dev/kidizoom KIDIZOOM
xhost local:$2
nautilus /media/KIDIZOOM
}

user=`who | grep :0\) | cut -f 1 -d ' '`
export DISPLAY=:0.0
export -f mk
su $user -c mk $1 $user

And the umount-script:

#!/bin/bash

umk() {
pumount /dev/$1
sleep 1
xhost local:$2
zenity --info --text Kidizoom is unmount
}

user=`who | grep :0\) | cut -f 1 -d ' '`
export -f umk
export DISPLAY=:0.0
su $user -c umk $1 $user

It works for me (maverick)

[Bug 695007] [NEW] Places menu items opening document viewer rather than nautilus

2010-12-28 Thread Dave Gilbert
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

On one of my two Natty machines, running the 'classic' (metacity) desktop, most
of the items on the Places menu on the panel cause Document viewer to be opened
(which then complains Unable to open document - Can't open directory).
The only one that actually works is 'Computer'.

Once I open Nautilus I can pick the items off the left side list pane
and they work fine.

[Bug 670102] Re: maximize just removes window borders in evolution and kmymoney

2010-12-28 Thread Florian M.
Hi, I have the same problem. This bug has already appeared and
supposedly been resolved by an update. Bug #549833

By then it was linked with the netbook remix version of Ubuntu. I myself
also did a netbook remix installation on a normal fullsize laptop and
later installed ubuntu-desktop and tried to remove all netbook
components. I think I'm using Metacity at the moment - no desktop
effects activated.

However I still get this problem. Why is the bug still incomplete? Can I
help with any information?

[Bug 694968] [NEW] Gthumb : no batch resizing any more !!??!!

2010-12-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I'm in Ubuntu 10.10. I'm running the latest Gthumb version: 2.11.3

This version is fine EXCEPT ONE THING

Why did you take away batch resizing which is very very useful

As many people, after selecting, on some photos, the part I want to
keep, I resize all of them to an acceptable size (e.g. 1600x1200).

I don't understand why this very useful feature disappeared? Many people
are complaining on the forums!!

Any logical explanation or just a one way (nonsense) decision?

Marking as duplicate, as this is the same issue as reported in bug
#667071, and many other bugs reporting that some weird application is
opening when clicking a place from the places menu. Something changes
file associations badly, and until now, I haven't found what was that.
If you have any info about what did you do lastly (maybe a package
install log) and if you know that before that update this did not
happen, please attach it here. It would be nice to know what changes the
default application for the Folder type. also note, that there is a
workaround in bug #667071 at comment 10.

I'm also affected by this bug. I have a Core i7, an SSD and an Nvidia

switching to the non-free Nvidia driver I get the ugly non-themed look.
The workaround in #68 seems to solve the problem, and the warning about
multiple xsettings managers is no longer written to my .xsession-errors
file.

[Bug 694862] Re: moving cursor over inactive window tabs changes their color to that of the active window

2010-12-28 Thread nick
This issue occurs prevalently in themes AMBIANCE, DUST, and NEW WAVE. It
occurs to a lesser extent in all the other themes except for CLEARLOOKS.
It does NOT occur in CLEARLOOKS (i.e., moving the cursor over an
inactive tab will not change its color). Moving the cursor over a
minimized window tab should not change its color in any theme--this
would solve the problem.

[Bug 694038] Re: Applying changes to user settings... forever

2010-12-28 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
Thanks for the report. Can you tell me exactly what settings you
changed? I suspect you changed the home directory and something went
wrong in that process. Are you able to reproduce the problem? Else,
there's no much I can do, sadly...

[Bug 667071] Re: archive manager

2010-12-28 Thread Dave Gilbert
Hi,
The workaround in (10) didn't work for me.

The other observation is that

xdg-open /

triggers the same problem.

(Which makes me wonder if it's related to the breakage in bug 670128)

But xdg-open is calling gvfs-open, and gvfs-open /triggers the same
I can see that gvfs-open has read
/usr/share/applications/exo-file-manager.desktop and that tells it to
run

exo-open --launch FileManager filename

(that's from exo-utils, part of xfce)

If I run exo-preferred-applications I can see that File Manager is set
to evince (!); if I flick that to Nautilus it opens.

(Although leaves a straggling window saying it's opening it even though
it did).

Has everyone else who has this problem also got exo-utils installed?
I would have thought that we'd want xfce stuff to co-exist with a gnome desktop
without getting in eachothers way.

Dave

[Bug 694860] Re: clicking X in the window title bar does not QUIT Rhythmbox

2010-12-28 Thread nick
Yes and No. Rhythmbox itself is closed (i.e., not minimized to bottom
panel but closed--while the music keeps playing). An icon does appear in
the notification area; however, I generally do not have the
notification icon on my panel/s so I cannot see it. But while
troubleshooting this I activated the notification icon and saw that it
was leaving an icon.

[Bug 504440] Re: sd card safely remove drive kills reader device

2010-12-28 Thread mannheim
Although Won't Fix may be right for the bug against gvfs, there is a
bug here which really, really needs fixing. Steps to reproduce on my
machine:

1. Boot to desktop and log in.
2. Insert a memory card and wait for the icon to appear on desktop.
3. Select Safely Remove Drive in the contextual menu.

After step 3, the built-in 7-in-1 memory-card reader on my Dell inspiron
is unusable without a reboot. To the end-user, there is no difference
between a disk and a drive and a whatever. So the user (me) will
choose Safely Remove Drive just as often as Eject. Indeed, the added
word Safely makes it seem like the better option.

I think the bug is that the option Safely Remove Drive appears at all.
For example, with my built-in CD drive, the option Safely Remove Drive
does not appear: only Eject. For other built-in drives with removable
media, the menu should be the same (although the word Eject is a bit
awkward.)

[Bug 695053] [NEW] drastic color scheme for battery mode

2010-12-28 Thread Ralf Hildebrandt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

The indicator applet for the power management displays the status of my battery
as red.
The red icon with a fill level of about nothing left is suitable to imply the
imminent demise of my laptop's battery.

A closer look at the status reveals: A whopping 1h 10 minutes of runtime left
(see screenshot).
So WTF is the icon red when there's really a quite a lot of time left? It would
be ok to display a yellow warning, but red always implies a critical status.
I'd consider 15 minutes to be a crititcal threshold, but 1h:10m?

[Bug 695069] [NEW] gnome-doc-tool crashes when converting .page files

2010-12-28 Thread Tom Wright
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-doc-utils

I have recently been attempting to export the documentation (created using
Mallard) of a project on which I have been working to html using
gnome-doc-utils but gnome-doc-tools consistently fails to convert the .page
files, producing the following error:
gnome-doc-tool: 1: Bad substitution
and others leading from it.

This is due to gnome-doc-tool's urlencode and urldecode function making
use of a feature specific to the bash shell (c=${arg:$i:1}) to select a
character from a string whereas the script's shell is specified as
/bin/sh. I have attached a patch which replaces all instances of this by
using the standard Unix cut utility which should completely fix this
issue.

[Bug 695077] [NEW] evolution opens pages in firefox (not the default browser)

2010-12-28 Thread Curtis Hovey
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Evolution 2.32.1 in Ubuntu natty (development branch) ignores the gnome-
default-application-properties. Links are opened in firefox, but gnome
default apps says they will be opened in chromium-browser.

I could not find a setting to force the correct browser. Nor could I
find a configuration file that listed firefox.

[Bug 558674] Re: Open file dialog malfunctions in lucid

2010-12-28 Thread steve.rueg
I am using Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 and also have this file dialog select
problem. I see that the status is Fix Released, but I don't
understand what that means. I have been updating my Ubuntu Lucid
distro. Doesn't that mean that I should have gotten this 'fix' and then
I shouldn't have this problem? Or does Fix Released mean that the fix
is only for Maverick? Or that this gtk+ fix is for Lucid, but just
hasn't made it into the Ubuntu repositories yet?

Eithe way is there a way to manually install this 'fix?' It is an
annoying bug and I would like to benefit from the fix.

Thanks.

[Bug 23810] Re: Evolution is unusable in 1024x768

2010-12-28 Thread Marvin
I don't understand either why the priority of this bug is that low. Is
it because the bug does not cause any crash or unexpected behaviour? Is
that the policy or what else is the reason?

I think this is A BUG IN USABILITY, that affects many users. There are
still many people with a vertical resolution = 768 pixels (also new
laptop with wide screens). I know how to move a window without having to
drag it via its title bar, but many people don't and it isn't very
obvious how to do this. And even if many people knew how to do it, then
still this is a bug. This is simply poor user interface design.
