[Bug 580112] Re: gnome-disk-utility doesn't detect SMART data on T60p

2011-01-06 Thread Martin Pitt
Can you please send the output of

  udisks --show-info /dev/sda

in particular the SMART bits? If that says unknown, can you please try

  udisks --ata-smart-refresh

then wait some seconds, and use --show-info again?

If it still says unknown, but has smart data, please do

  sudo skdump --save=/tmp/smart.blob /dev/sda

and attach /tmp/smart.blob here.

Thanks!

[Bug 698008] [NEW] Relative font sizes/weights not possible in gtkrc

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

[This is copied from https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=325767
so that it can be linked to a blueprint.]

Currently the font_name field in the gtkrc file is the only way to
change fonts and it only allows an absolute change. If a user wants to
use a smaller font for certain widgets or if an application tries to
provide a gtkrc file that results in a more compact dialog layout, it
would be a lot nicer if the font could be specified relative to the
desktop-wide configured font. This missing feature leads for example to

Re: [Cairo-dock-team] [Bug 437378] Re: Some flashes appears when a window is resized

2011-01-06 Thread Fabounet
hmm, I think we were talking of a different bug ^^
I was talking about the flickering we get when a window is move_resized
(this is a very brief flicker, and is most probably due to a bad refresh of
the window from the WM, the old window's content being drawn on the larger
window).
It's much harder to get this bug now, because I have reduced the number of
resizing to the minimum (that's why this bug is marked as fixed for us).

The bug you're talking about is different: it's clearly a miscalculation of
the icons positions when an icon is being removed, and it last few seconds
(the time the icon is decreasing to 0), and under any WM (Compiz included).
Actually this is a known bug (and it probably has its own bug report
already), so sorry I didn't understand correctly :-)

The flickering in Metacity is still a real bug afaik, but then I don't think
it affects KWin, so I'm going to remove them.

2011/1/5 Bellegarde Cedric gnu...@gmail.com

 Same bug on icon creation:

dock move on right and then resize/move on left...

 http://adishatz.1s.fr/~gnumdk/cairo-dock/0157.pnghttp://adishatz.1s.fr/%7Egnumdk/cairo-dock/0157.png

 http://adishatz.1s.fr/~gnumdk/cairo-dock/0184.pnghttp://adishatz.1s.fr/%7Egnumdk/cairo-dock/0184.png

You will see bug on close (without gdk_window_move_resize()):
 - 157 = Konsole closing, dock resizing
 - 184 = dock have move on left

 Bug description:
  Binary package hint: metacity

 Hello,

 I'm part of the Cairo-Dock team. Cairo-Dock is a dock using Cairo/OpenGL
backend. It needs a composite support and it works almost well with
Metacity. There is just one problem : some flashes appear (often) and the
dock is moved quickly when the window used by Cairo-Dock is resized. In fact
Cairo-Dock resizes its window when the dock is active.
Can you have a look to this screencast? http://videobin.org/+fx/if.html

It seems that it's an old bug but sorry for that, we have never report this
bug here. I have tested on Gnome 2.26 (Jaunty) and 2.28 (Karmic - just
before my other computer breaks down :/ ). Mutter is also affected by this
 bug
This bug is much present now because the resizing is more used.

You can find all informations about the installation of Cairo-Dock there :

[Bug 445141] Re: Podcasts don't download if the files are all the same filename.

2011-01-06 Thread eroeurbano
Hi,
I'm using Rhytmbox 0.12.8 in a computer with Ubuntu 10.04 installed.
I installed Rhythmbox from the official repositories.
Today I've tried to add the following podcasts:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/coffeebreakfrench
and
http://feeds.feedburner.com/coffeebreakspanish
but the files are not downloaded with the right name
(for example file are saved as
http---feedproxy.google.com--r-coffeebreakfrench--5-NyjQ-KhK-sE-cbf-306-basic.mp3
instead of cbf-306-basic.mp3).
How can I get the right names working? I've read that the bug seems to be
solved.
Cheers, -Luca

[Bug 693337] Re: Menus for choosing language should have one option per available translation

2011-01-06 Thread Martin Pitt
 * Would this be a suitable approach for determining available
languages for message translation?

My first reaction to that was but what if I actually want the Swiss
German variant?. While it's unusual, we can in theory have e. g. Swiss
or Austrian specific German translations. But on second thought, this
solves it:

 * Is listing the /usr/share/locale-langpack directory a safe way to
find available translations, or is there more into it?

This is actually a very nice idea. As long as we don't actually have
actual country specific variants of a language (like de), it wouldn't
show them at all, but it would retain the country specific variants that
we really need (such as en_GB or pt_BR).

The only problem here is that /usr/share/locale-langpack/ is an
Ubuntuism and not compatible with any other distribution or upstream,
but that boat already left a while ago anyway :-) So this isn't a
blocker.

 * As regards languages with more than one translation: When the
country is not specified, does it matter which of the locales that is
assigned to the LC_MESSAGES environment variable?

No, it doesn't for messages. It is relevant for $LANG and other LC_*
categories, of course.

I guess for the actual implementation in l-s and gdm we don't need to
parse /usr/share/xml/iso-codes/, as these already have the translated
names of the locales?

Thanks for working on this!

[Bug 697760] [NEW] At the login screen, you can not click without having moved the cursor

2011-01-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Ubuntu 10.10 (but I recall that this bug existed in 10.04 and possibly
earlier).

Once you reach the login page, and if you have a single user, the cursor
is located centrally, above the area you need to click in order to open
the password entry box.

If you do not move the mouse at all, but just click, the password entry
box does not appear. The password entry box only appears if you first
move the mouse (even a single pixel is sufficient), and then click on
the box.

Admittedly this is only a minor annoyance, but why should the user be
forced to move the mouse (even if it is only a single pixel), in order
to interact with a button that the cursor is already over?

((Is this in any way related to Bug #14669?))

[Bug 698109] [NEW] Nautilus froze

2011-01-06 Thread markling
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

This problem occured within a day of performing a clean install of
Ubuntu 10.10.

1) Ubuntu Release 10.10
2) Nautilus version: 1:2.32.0-0ubuntu1.1

3) What expected to happen:

I was just moving a few folders around. I expected this to proceed as
usual.

There were a few things going on simultaneously. Nautilus had three tabs
open. Gedit was open in my second workspace area. I was doing some file
copying In my fourth workspace: 20Gb of files were being copied from an
external HD using NTFS, over USB to my local ext4 HD. The process was
occasionally being interrupted with filenames that were too long.

4) Nautilus in the first workspace froze. A folder was selected in its
frozen state. I cannot deselect the folder nor select another folder.
Neither can I select another tab or the Nautilus menu or toolbars.

Please note, however, that Nautilus did not report an Error. It just
froze.

Please note also that my 20Gb copy in Workspace 4 was not interrupted.
It carried on just fine.

I have reported this as a separate bug as well as adding it as a comment
at this similar RESOLVED bug #428564. I did this so that my Apport

[Bug 698109] Re: Nautilus froze

2011-01-06 Thread markling
I've narrowed this down to the nub.

The specific bug as can thus far be certain:

Nautilus freezes when separate File Operation interrupted with Error
caused by over-long filename.

To recap:

I have Nautilus running in Ubuntu Workspace 1.
I have a large File Operation running in Workspace 4.

When the File Operation in Workspace 4 is interrupted with an error such
as File name too long, my instance of Nautilus in Workspace 1 freezes.

When I clear the File Operation error in Workspace 4, Nautilus becomes
operative again in Workspace 1.

Perhaps it is normal behaviour for a File Operation error message to
prevent other actions. But I can use other programs while the FO Error
is waiting for my attention in Workspace 4. I can, for example, use
Firefox and Update Manager or run a terminal. I just can't use the
Nautilus window I already had open.

Note that I can open a new Nautilus window while the FO Error is waiting
my attention. But once the new Nautilus Window has opened I am unable to
use it. Neither can I close it.

If, however, I tell the File Operation Error dialogue in Workspace 4 to
[Skip], Nautilus starts working again in Workspace 1.

[Bug 618223] Re: GDM makes me log in twice after I lock the screen

2011-01-06 Thread Gary Murtagh
I am having this exact same problem all day today.

When I lock my screen (or when it locks auto) I do the following:

Move my cursor, the login prompt appears.
I enter p/w, it displays my desktop for a split second and then brings me back
to the login prompt again.
After entering p/w again it now lets me back in the desktop as per normal.
I am on Ubuntu 10.04.

Has there been a fix for this?
I notice the status is expired...

Re: [Bug 693337] Re: Menus for choosing language should have one option per available translation

2011-01-06 Thread Arne Goetje
On 01/06/2011 07:55 PM, Martin Pitt wrote:
 * Would this be a suitable approach for determining available
 languages for message translation?

My first reaction to that was but what if I actually want the Swiss
German variant?. While it's unusual, we can in theory have e. g.
Swiss or Austrian specific German translations. But on second
 thought, this solves it:

It wouldn't be unusual if the German translation team didn't decide to
unify those variants into Standard German. Swiss German has a different
grammar usage than in Germany, at least.
(Gnucash for example has de_CH translations, but that's in universe.)

 * Is listing the /usr/share/locale-langpack directory a safe way
 to
find available translations, or is there more into it?

This is actually a very nice idea. As long as we don't actually have
actual country specific variants of a language (like de), it
wouldn't show them at all, but it would retain the country specific
variants that we really need (such as en_GB or pt_BR).

The only problem here is that /usr/share/locale-langpack/ is an
Ubuntuism and not compatible with any other distribution or
upstream, but that boat already left a while ago anyway :-) So this
 isn't a blocker.

What about /usr/share/locale/ ? That's at least where universe software
puts its translations. And there you may even find de_DE and en_US
folders... Therefor always put ll_CC codes first in the LANGUAGE
variable string, followed by the country-less fallback, i.e. de_DE:de !
There is code for this in l-s.

 * As regards languages with more than one translation: When the
country is not specified, does it matter which of the locales that
is assigned to the LC_MESSAGES environment variable?
 No, it doesn't
for messages. It is relevant for $LANG and other LC_* categories, of
 course.

Why not? Falling back to en_GB for English, while the rest of the LC_*
and LANG is en_US, should surely be avoided.

I guess for the actual implementation in l-s and gdm we don't need
to parse /usr/share/xml/iso-codes/, as these already have the
 translated names of the locales?

hmm? l-s parses /usr/share/xml/iso-codes/ for exactly that reason.

 Thanks for working on this!

+1

Cheers
Arne

[Bug 698186] [NEW] gnome-panel does not hide after full screen app

2011-01-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I created a gnome-panel on the left side of my screen, put some icons on it and
set it to auto-hide. One of the applications present on that panel is
aisle-riot solitaire which is set to open in full screen mode. After completing
and winning a game, it is possible to directly close this application from
within the full-screen mode, bringing back the desktop or other open
applications, together with the visible left panel. I presume it is still
visible because somehow no time has elapsed since solitaire directly opened in
full-screen. However, once it becomes visible again, it seems normal to me the
panel would auto-hide after a brief period of time. None of the kind: the panel
remains visible (see screenshot) thus hiding part of the desktop or new current
application. The panel does hide itself after I briefly point to it with the
mousecursor.
I am using10.10 Maverick with kernel 2.6.35-24-generic
Aisle riot is version 2.32.0
Gnome-panel is version 1:2.30.2-1ubuntu3

I admit this is a very low priority bug...

[Bug 618223] Re: GDM makes me log in twice after I lock the screen

2011-01-06 Thread Gary Murtagh
UPDATE:

If I move the cursor within 10 seconds of locking screen then I only need to
login once.
But as soon as it goes beyond 10 seconds from when I locked I need to login
twice...

I thought initially it may be to do with the screensaver as it only starts up 5
seconds after the screen goes black.
But I tried 2 seconds after the screensaver started (7 seconds after the lock)
and I was able to get back to desktop with just the one login attempt.

But trying again at 10 seconds it resulting in me needing to login twice.
The problem is repeatable for me at 10 second period.

2011-01-06 Thread Martin Pitt
Arne Goetje [2011-01-06 16:32 -]:
 What about /usr/share/locale/ ?

Good point, thanks, I missed that. I think we should offer

 - all languages/locales from /usr/share/langpack-locale/

plus

 - the intersection of /usr/share/locale/ and `locale -a`

Gunnar, how does that sound to you?

  * As regards languages with more than one translation: When the
country is not specified, does it matter which of the locales that
is assigned to the LC_MESSAGES environment variable?
  No, it doesn't
for messages. It is relevant for $LANG and other LC_* categories, of
  course.

Why not? Falling back to en_GB for English, while the rest of the LC_*
and LANG is en_US, should surely be avoided.

en_US does specify a country, though. As we are always going to have
en_GB as an explicit variant, this case doesn't apply to English or
Portugese. I thought this was for the case if we only have de
translations, then the country in LC_MESSAGES doesn't matter.

I guess for the actual implementation in l-s and gdm we don't need
to parse /usr/share/xml/iso-codes/, as these already have the
  translated names of the locales?

hmm? l-s parses /usr/share/xml/iso-codes/ for exactly that reason.

Right, but it does that already, and gdm doesn't (it'd take too long
during boot). I was referring to Gunnar's perl script which currently
parses those.

Thanks,

Martin

2011-01-06 Thread indium
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Hi,

some of the emails in my INBOX on an Exchange 2003 account have no body
according to Evolution. When connecting with another mail client through
IMAP, the message is still there/intact.

In evolution, when I click on the message for the first time, it shows
the regular fetching message 00392349234blah in the body screen, but
then this body window turns empty.

In evolution, when I reply to the email which has no body in evolution,
it puts the following standard text in the body of the reply:

On Thu, 2011-01-06 at 17:15 +, an unknown sender wrote:

So apparently it also lost the sender information there (although the
sender is still visible in the evolution INBOX list of emails).

During all these actions, not more than the following debug information appears:
_
** (evolution:11733): DEBUG: Loading Exchange MAPI Plugin

** (evolution:11733): DEBUG: MAPI listener is constructed with 0 listed MAPI
accounts
EI: MAIL PREFS
__

This debug info is printed during the start up, and there's no debug
message subsequently (during the above actions).

[Bug 689861] Re: Solid color as desktop background even if wallpaper image is set

2011-01-06 Thread diedazz
Been stuck with it for a couple of days too, in the end i found the
solution:

gconf-editor and under desktop-gnome-background-draw background
enable it

found it here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=814329page=2

Totally don't know how it changed from skip to zip, but I'm considering
not properly installed Nvidia drivers.

[Bug 580614] Re: Nautilus crashes when list view is enabled

2011-01-06 Thread TheNinja
I just found out the source of the problems was an outdated version of
the windows nx client i used.

A workaround for this was to change the theme to the Clearlooks theme,
maybe that helps for future problems as well.

[Bug 698195] [NEW] Audio CD works then stops working

2011-01-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I am attempting to play Audio CDs with rhythmbox. When I insert a disc
into the drive, it appears in Rhythmbox. Initially, the tracks are
listed with the correct times, but no names or album information. I am
able to play the CD at this point. No more than 5 seconds later, a
MusicBrainz message appears stating that it could not find this album
on MusicBrainz. At this point, the Album name appears, but all of the
tracks completely disappear from the CD Track Playlist, playback cuts
out, and the CD is no longer playable. This issue occurs for more than
one CD.

Rhythmbox is able to play back other audio files of various types (I
have tried wav, mp3, m4a, flac, and ogg).

The folder ~/.gvfs/cdda mount on sr0 exists and is accessible,
containing the correct number of tracks, and displaying the correct
times when accessing the right-click - properties menu item for each
track. The CD appears as an Audio Disc in computer:///.

When attempting to copy all tracks off the disc with nautilus, the file
transfer freezes at a variable period of time into the operation
(assuming a read error of some description).

I have attempted to open the CD using VLC media player with success. VLC
displays the correct CD Text for all tracks and can play all tracks on
the CD. My system is also dual-boot with windows 7. I am able to open,
play back, and rip the contents of the Audio CDs with Windows Media
Player with no issues. On a side note, it did not appear as though media
player attempted to read the CD text as none of the CD information
(album name, song titles) appeared.

I have tried:
* apt-get purge and reinstall rhythmbox
* apt-get purge and reinstall gvfs-backends

I have just installed Ubuntu 10.10 a few days ago. I was previously
using 9.04 with no issues.

Some Information:
==
Ubuntu 10.10 AMD64
uname -a: Linux kuroi 2.6.35-24-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 2 02:41:37 UTC
2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Nautilus 2.32.0
Rhythmbox 0.13.1
VLC 1.1.4
GStreamer 0.10.30

The cdrom section of lshw is:
   *-cdrom

version: TN00
capabilities: removable audio cd-r cd-rw dvd dvd-r dvd-ram
configuration: ansiversion=5 status=ready
  *-medium
   physical id: 0
   logical name: /dev/cdrom

One other thing that may be worth mentioning is the fact that the DVD
drive has some firmware adware (although I'm sure LG wouldn't call it
that). When the drive is closed and empty, it registers as containing a
disc labelled Bluebirds, which appears to be some drag+drop burning
software or something of a similar description. When the drive is open
or the drive contains a disc and is closed, it is as it would normally
be.

Due to the fact that I am having partial success in nautilus, limited
success in rhythmbox, and total success in vlc, I am unsure as to where
the problem lies for this issue. If I can provide any further useful
information please let me know.

Thanks in advance,
-Daniel

[Bug 580112] Re: gnome-disk-utility doesn't detect SMART data on T60p

2011-01-06 Thread Brandon Snider
udisks --ata-smart-refresh /dev/sdx immediately got the data on a test
system here using the Maverick livecd. So although it's a bit more
awkward, it's possible to get smart info from the Lucid/Maverick livecds
using that command. However it would be nice to have the data
immediately displayed without having to go to the command line first.

[Bug 147045] Re: gnome-appearance-properties hogs processor even after close

2011-01-06 Thread Connie
Ubuntu 10.04

I've caught this bug.

this - https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-control-
center/+bug/147045/comments/15 solves the problem.

Here is the content of my .gtkrc-2.0

# -- THEME AUTO-WRITTEN DO NOT EDIT
include /usr/share/themes/Glossy/gtk-2.0/gtkrc

include /home/connie/.gtkrc.mine

# -- THEME AUTO-WRITTEN DO NOT EDIT

after clearing this file gnome-appearance-properties closes and frees
resources. Otherwise it eats CPU.

This happen on two of three user accounts on my home comp. The content
of the .gtkrs-2.0 the same.

On the third account there is no .gtkrc-2.0 and g-a-p works normal.
