[Bug 704821] [NEW] launchers don't expand environment variables
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel I had quite a bad user experience today. I've tried to create a simple launcher for Chromium with a command line that included $HOME environment variable [1] and it was not expanded. To my surprise I've found the '$HOME' directory instead spelled with the $ inside. Now I have to use bash -c command $HOME command line, but it is not consistent with how would you _as a user_ expect the launcher to behave. As a side note I'd also like to see the flag in launcher properties for executing program in terminal to control console messages. 1. http://code.google.com/p/nativeclient- sdk/wiki/HowTo_RunModules#Step_2:_Launch_the_browser_with_--enable-nacl ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/704821 Title: launchers don't expand environment variables -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. [Bug 693903] Re: ambiguous icons in toolbar CANCEL vs DELETE
frederik, Could you please open a separate bug about the cancel button remaining sensitive? Also, I think we'd benefit from discussing this issue, at least as far as the order of buttons go, upstream. Please open a bug on the Gnome tracker about this, you can get all the information on how to do so here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Finally, whether the red octogon with a white X is intuitive enough as a marker for a Cancel operation is pretty cultural and subjective. There is currently enough historical usage of it (IE4, IE5, Firefox 2, Firefox 3, etc. to only name a few) to support it's current use to mean stop rather than delete. However, you might also want to discuss this issue upstream. ** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = New ** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/693903 Title: ambiguous icons in toolbar CANCEL vs DELETE -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 214370] Re: Logout/Shutdown Sound Not Working
Quoting Andrew in comment 34, Redirecting focus to the actual bug filed here: There is a file called 'libcanberra-logout-sound.sh' in /usr/share/gnome/shutdown that is meant to be run on shutdown. The reason the file is not played is that the piece of code that is meant to be in gnome-session to run all files in the /usr/share/gnome/shutdown directory is not there (it was forgot). Upstream is a patch someone made to fix it and the nautilus developers suggested some changes to the patch. This bug needs someone to modify the patch as required. What's happening with this patch? I've checked the upstream bug report in Gnome (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=528812) and there hasn't been any activity since 2009. However, mostly while reading stuff and thus not interacting and letting the 'dim timer' kick in, in stead of trying to dim the display, it turns quite bright for a second and then dims it again, but to a higher setting then what it was at. Not only does this blind me, it is also highly annoying. This also happens during boot, when I have the setting dimmed and just before login the power-manager backend kicks in to do it's dim-undim magic. The first thing gnome-power-manager should do (or it's backend) is try to determine what the current backlight setting is. I know this is possible on a IBM T42 as this issue wasn't here 2 release ago. [Bug 705033] [NEW] Brasero hangs at creating checksum for ISO and does not continue
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: brasero Hi at the developers, since this evening I have a very hard problem with brasero. As usual, I had put in an empty DVD (4.7GB) because I wanted to burn two videos, which I had downloaded. Brasero opened and I could choose Video-CD. Then I could add the video-files. It also checked the sice of the disc and started to burn. When I clicked on the button burn in my first try, brasero closed without giving any error-message. At the second try, Brasero opened as usual and I couold choose Video again. Then I clicked on burn and it started to burn. But when it came to creating checksum for ISO after the burning, the process didn't complete although I waited more than half an hour. The process didn't complete and didn't go further. I recognised this, because normally, brasero pushes out the CDs automaticly after having completed the process. But this time, it didn't. Now I have tried it two times (After the first try, I got all updates and upgrades via Terminal. And in this upgrade this evening, there was also a brasero-update. I have let all the updates and upgrades completely run through and they installed without any problem. Then I tried again, to burn this CD, but the same issue happened again. So I thought, I give you a bug-report. Then I give you the details about my system: Distribution: LinuxMint 10 architecture x96_64 Desktop: Gnome-Desktop Brasero-Version: 2.32.0-0ubuntu2.1 LinuxMint is ubuntu-based, so I think the same is true for Ubuntu Lucid Lynx as well as for Ubuntu-Natty. I just started experiencing this issue today, for whatever reason. I have opened and edited files I am experiencing trouble with using both mousepad and kate and no problem at all. I also tried the gksu suggestion and gedit works tickity boo that way. So is there a solution for this problem? Like I said I use Gedit daily, and some days non-stop, so this bugs is a major PITA and near impossible to work with. [Bug 705079] Re: Evolution crashes when opened
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding. ** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium ** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/705079 Title: Evolution crashes when opened -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
