2011-02-03 Thread Martin Pitt
I really think this should be redesigned to have FallbackSession_1,
_FallbackMessage_1, etc. Otherwise you can't ever add a new one or
change the existing order without breaking all existing translations for
existing sessions. It will also avoid having metacharacters like ';'
(which _someone_ will break), or very long strings in translations.

[Bug 711920] [NEW] unity change user session no desktop panels

2011-02-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: unity

Booting CD Live Natty 20110201 on IBM Thinkpad T40 ati radeon mobility 7500
gets the message:
change user session
however it does NOT change the session, since there are no desktop panels.
Just a purple splotch background and a cursor.

The bug is unity did not change to the login session so the correct user
session can indeed be chosen.

[Bug 197589] Re: Numeric keypad no longer works after upgrade

2011-02-03 Thread Olivier Tilloy
I downloaded all the source packages listed in apt’s upgrade log
attached above in a lucid chroot, and I grep’ed through in search of
mousekeys (the gconf key that controls whether mouse keys are enabled
is /desktop/gnome/accessibility/keyboard/mousekeys_enable), but this
didn’t yield any result.

The upgrade trail may be a red herring…

[Bug 664920] Re: 100% CPU usage when calling a child process from a python script

2011-02-03 Thread Antoine Martin
Here is the upstream bug:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=640738

I have tested the fix and it works. I believe Debian has already merged
a patch for pygtk 2.17, Ubuntu should probably fix all versions, not
just natty, as this affects maverick at least (I can confirm) and
probably also lucid (I have not tested).

It also affects virt-manager (and probably many other applications):

[Bug 708847] Re: Unreasonable CPU usage after receiving signal

2011-02-03 Thread Antoine Martin
+1
Fixing this bug would solve lots of other bugs being reported:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pygtk/+bug/664920
100% CPU usage when calling a child process from a python script
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pygtk/+bug/707313
[natty] virt-manager use 100% CPU

Otherwise, they will just keep on coming (against various pygtk programs). This
is the root cause.
Both Maverick and Natty are affected (maybe others).

[Bug 483294] Re: i can't delete ssh key, cant't import, can't generate new key

2011-02-03 Thread Bert Driehuis
The problem with being unable to delete a key from Seahorse occurs when
the key file is lost on disk. If you still have access to the file, you
can copy it back, and Seahorse will then allow key deletion or viewing
properties.

I would rate this behavior counter to the principle of least
astonishment.

Problem reproduced with Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid) and its bundled Seahorse
2.30.0.

[Bug 666565] Re: utf8 charmap in locale name is wrong

2011-02-03 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
There seems to be a consensus of opinion that the encoding part of
locale names, that are assigned to the LANG or LC_* environment
variables, should be .UTF-8 rather than .utf8. I'm currently working on
language-selector and GDM with other language/locale related matters, so
I can include the necessary changes in a couple of merge proposals in
pipeline. Before I do so, and since I don't have an own idea on to which
extent the changes would create new issues, I'd like that someone
triages the bug with respect to language-selector and gdm (ubuntu). I'd
also need help to draw a conclusion from the reasoning below.

On 2011-01-25 12:54, Colin Watson wrote:
 ... software that parses locale strings in ways that only handle
 particular spellings of them tend to be buggy in other ways. For
 example, such buggy software can easily fail to handle LANG=en_IN as
 a UTF-8 locale, even though it's defined as such in
 /usr/share/i18n/SUPPORTED (the .UTF-8 suffix is mainly for dealing
 with locales that previously had a non-UTF-8 version, and some newer
 locales just went UTF-8 from the start).

Doesn't that point towards simply appending .UTF-8 to e.g. en_IN,
irrespective of the name according to /usr/share/i18n/SUPPORTED?

I did this test:

  [gunnar@gunnar-laptop ~/sandbox]$ sh
  $ cat mytest.po
  msgid hello
  msgstr hello from India
  $ dir=/usr/share/locale/en_IN/LC_MESSAGES
  $ sudo mkdir -p $dir
  $ sudo msgfmt mytest.po -o $dir/mytest.mo
  $ LANGUAGE=''
  $ LC_MESSAGES=en_IN
  $ echo $( gettext -d mytest hello )
  hello from India
  $ LC_MESSAGES=en_IN.utf8
  $ echo $( gettext -d mytest hello )
  hello from India
  $ LC_MESSAGES=en_IN.UTF-8
  $ echo $( gettext -d mytest hello )
  hello from India
  $ exit
  [gunnar@gunnar-laptop ~/sandbox]$

No complaints, and gettext found the Indian 'translation' in all three
cases, so en_IN.UTF-8 seems to work. Or would that name cause other apps
to fail?

 Getting back to the original patch, the general idea seems OK to me,
 but I think it would be helpful for it to take a slightly different
 approach to implementation. Rather than just appending .UTF-8, I
 suggest searching /usr/share/i18n/SUPPORTED for a suitable match for
 the language, country, and variant which has UTF-8 as the second
 column. That way, language-selector will always select the canonical
 user-visible name for the locale, even if it's one of the
 interesting cases such as en_IN where the canonical name doesn't have
 an encoding suffix.

Even if we would go for the canonical names, I don't think it's
necessary to parse /usr/share/i18n/SUPPORTED.

  [gunnar@gunnar-laptop ~]$ locale -a | grep -F en_IN
  en_IN
  en_IN.utf8
  [gunnar@gunnar-laptop ~]$

As you can see, the special case en_IN is represented by two items in
the 'locale -a' output. We ought to be able to make use of that info.

This example shows how the English locale names might be grabbed:

  [gunnar@gunnar-laptop ~]$ sh
  $ tmp=$( locale -a | grep -xvE C\|POSIX )
  $ no_enc=$( echo $tmp | grep -vF .utf8 )
  $ for locale in $( echo $tmp | grep -F .utf8 | sed 's/\.utf8//' )
   do
   if ! expr $locale : en  /dev/null ; then
   continue
   elif expr $no_enc : .*$locale  /dev/null ; then
   echo $locale
   else
   echo $( echo $locale | sed -r 's/([^@]+)/\1.UTF-8/' )
   fi
   done
  en_AG
  en_AU.UTF-8
  en_BW.UTF-8
  en_CA.UTF-8
  en_DK.UTF-8
  en_GB.UTF-8
  en_HK.UTF-8
  en_IE.UTF-8
  en_IN
  en_NG
  en_NZ.UTF-8
  en_PH.UTF-8
  en_SG.UTF-8
  en_US.UTF-8
  en_ZA.UTF-8
  en_ZW.UTF-8
  $ exit
  [gunnar@gunnar-laptop ~]$

As you can see, English locale names for Antigua/Barbuda and Nigeria are
the same kind of special cases as en_IN.

[Bug 707232] Re: Netbook image - no valid session found

2011-02-03 Thread Didier Roche
@Stéphane: in fact, it's not really the cause :)
The cause is that it tries to launch
/usr/share/gnome-session/session/gnome.session by default, which is correct,
but this one try to get acceleration and doesn't fallback because of a key
change.

So, what I'll do for now:
- change the default to ubuntu
- fix the gnome.session file to the new syntax

Not sure that the ubuntu session will works for you as it's testing for
acceleration, so it will probably fallback

[Bug 712442] [NEW] [Wish] Edit Signatures in Evolution

2011-02-03 Thread old_toby
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Ubuntu Natty Alpha 1, Evolution 2.32.1

In the mail account, there's a button to create a new signature. But to
EDIT one, I have to go to $HOME/.local/share/evolution/signature, find
out what signature it actually is that I want to edit, and open in gedit
(or other editor). For an HTML signature, it's quite a nuisance because
you have to edit the source text, not something that e.g. my wife or my
mother could do.

It would be more useful to have another button to edit the signatures
directly in the evolution editor.

Why is this marked as a duplicate of #433654 ? It was explicitly split

from the wording in a frontend.
