[Bug 714432] [NEW] Empathy breaks (cannot sign in to jabber server) if pidgin is installed

2011-02-07 Thread Martin
Public bug reported:

I figured out that if pidgin is installed it is no longer possible to
sign in to your jabber account. Maybe they have conflicting settings

[Bug 29622]

2011-02-07 Thread Alan-bastleford
Even in Windows where there is a facility to set margins using
File-Page Setup you can only set the page margins. Not the header and
footer margins. I have also looked at prefs. on both systems. The
options there are

print_margin_bottom
print_margin_left
print_margin_right
print_margin_top

These settings are page margins and can be varied to suit individual
printers. That begs the question, why are these settings easily
available via the GUI File-Page Setup in Windows as well as via
about.config and only in about.config in Linux/Mac? In neither case
there are no settings available to vary the size of the headers and
footers.

[Bug 712630] Re: Ubuntu Alternate: Empty desktop after installation with 2D fallback

2011-02-07 Thread Ralph Green
I chose Close, instead of Change session, since I could not see what
Change session would mean. I got the same results, anyway. As an
experiment, I tried switching to a virtual console and enabling an
nVidia proprietary driver. I hoped that a reboot would then let me run
Unity or something. After the reboot, I never see anything but a blank
screen and cannot bring up virtual consoles again.

I got these results on a system with a Matrox G400 video card and on
one with a nVidia Ti4200.

[Bug 714242] Re: nautilus crashes periodically

2011-02-07 Thread Omer Akram
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 713589] Re: when I open my personal contacts it crashes

2011-02-07 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 131885] Re: Backlight no longer under my control on battery

2011-02-07 Thread l0b0
This has been reproducible on both my EEE PC 900 and 1005 all the way until
10.10. To recap, with the default screen settings, I get the following behavior:
1. Adjust the backlight to the lowest setting.
2. Read on the screen for a bit (maybe a minute) without moving the pointer or
typing.
3. Notice a small increase in lighting level without any user input.
4. At this point, upon moving the pointer or typing the backlight goes back to
100%.

Points 3 and 4 should not happen. If GNOME is set to reduce the
backlight when idle, it should obviously not *increase* it. Also, the
backlight should always return to the last manual setting when not idle.

[Bug 713807] Re: Can't see where ripped music is saved

2011-02-07 Thread Ken Pratt
If I do not konw the name of the song, it makes it very difficult to
find it in the Rhythmbox listing. If I rip a disk that has a
fingerprint that is not recognized so no metadata is retrieved, it
becomes very difficult to find what was ripped. Normally, I'd gor to
the directory and search by date. Then use Picard to help find and
apply the meta data.

So this is no so much a bug, but rather a feature request. If I could
see the directory to which a CD is ripped, it would make this case much
easier from a usage perspective,

[Bug 658590] Re: Rhythmbox will not minimize to sound-indicator if music is not playing

2011-02-07 Thread Mika Wahlroos
Sebastien,

I'd like to point out that, as I said in comment #3, even if we sidestep
the question regarding the sanity of the specification itself, it's
definitely a bug that the Rhythmbox package in Ubuntu currently
implements the specification only partially, leading to inconsistent
behaviour. The package does implement the part about exiting if the
window is closed while not playing, but does not implement the part
about maintaining state across sessions. I'm inclined to believe that
the latter part was added to the specification exactly because it would
otherwise severely disrupt the consistency of behaviour and the user's
flow. See comment #3 for a real-world scenario; I can give more if
you're not convinced.

I argue that, as far as any single application goes, the specification
should only be implemented either fully or not at all. This particularly
applies to a high-prevalence application such as Rhythmbox. If you
consider this particular one not to be a bug, should we instead open a
new one for the Rhythmbox in Ubuntu not implementing the specification
fully?

In relation to that, what's your understanding of how this inconsistency
is going to be solved in the future? Is it just going to go away by
itself in a future transition to Gnome 3? Or is the specification going
to be fully implemented by Rhythmbox in Natty, thus perhaps making the
behaviour consistent? Is that a realistic goal, seeing that Rhythmbox
itself does little or nothing to implement full preservation of state?

2011-02-07 Thread Martin Pitt
For the record, in the upstream bug we now identified the cause for most
of these crashes and have a proposed fix which will make pygtk work for
the new pygobject. This at least fixes the gtk.Image test case and virt-
manager, but not meld yet; I'm hunting the latter now.

[Bug 714674] [NEW] Evolution tries to scan too many exchange folders

2011-02-07 Thread Jason Bodnar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

After a recent update Evolution now tries to scan all of my folders upon
starting. Most of these folders are part of a MS Exchange account.
Perhaps it's because it's trying to scan too many folders at once or
perhaps there's some other reason but Evolution never finishes the scans
thus tying up the account and making it unusable.

[Bug 709935] Re: File MGR is very slow on any type fs

2011-02-07 Thread bsalem
More testing.

On U 9.04 with Nautilius 2.0.4 I do not experience any of the hangs. With other
file managers on U 10.10 I do
not experience any of the hangs. With N 2.32.0 I do get the hangs. They are
delays after changing directory
contents and navigating up the tree with thumbnails on. Is there an issue with
the NTFS driver, or is the performance hit confined to a recent up grade? When
I first installed U 10.10 I did not experience this.

I think that I need to go ask the community about how to deinstall N 2.23.0 and
try the version shipped with the
original Distro.

I have a similar issue where sometimes when I come back to my W510

mouse icon. There is no screen-saver lockout screen. System is
functional but cannot use screen. This happens about once a week and is
very annoying. Let me know if there is any log I can capture. I noticed
Xorg is at 100% CPU when this happens.

http://blip.tv/file/4720262 gets opened in the browser and because of the
it 404s.

According to http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2396.txt is not part of a valid URL

The angle-bracket and and double-quote () characters are
excluded because they are often used as the delimiters around URI in
   text documents and protocol fields.
