[Bug 713768] Re: login fails; freezes after selecting user from the face browser
It seems that GDM itself is the cause. Whenever it updates the /var/cache/gdm/$user/dmrc, it adds some useless utf8 marker to the locale e.g. my locale is fi_FI.UTF-8 which gets mingled into fi_FI.UTF-8.utf8 and that is what prevents the login from taking place. [Bug 121833] Re: LCD backlight turns off when between discrete levels, both from hotkeys and from dim-on-idle.
i still have this problem on my Sony VPCF12M1E , actually i have it on some linux distributions , fedora ubuntu suse debian (all current releases, havent tried the others). About ubuntu i tried both 10.04lts and 10.10. The situation is that the screen either works at full brightness or doesnt work at all, because when decreasing it, the screen becomes black. This is what happens both when i manually decrease the screen brightness from 100% level AND when the power management program decreases brightness due to user inactivity or because of power manag. profile switching (for example when you unplug the acadapter) this's a big problem for laptops, i hope it gets fixed. thanks, goodbye. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/121833 Title: LCD backlight turns off when between discrete levels, both from hotkeys and from dim-on-idle. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 718248] [NEW] Hibernate fails on Dell Inspiron 8600 with Maverick
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager This is basically the same as bug #298804 Hibernate fails on Dell Inspiron 8600 with Intrepid, but to submit my apport data it seems to want me to start a new report. Just installed 10.10 Maverick on my Dell Inspiron 8600 dual-boot with Windows XP. Suspend is fine, but it will not hibernate. This is not an nVidia proprietary driver problem--I have the identical problem when I roll back to the non-proprietary driver. When I try to hibernate, it get the same message Marek got: [*.] pm_op(): pci_pm_thaw + 0x0/0x50 returns -16 [*.] PM: Device :00:00.0 failed to thaw: error -16 except that I get 0x80 where he got 0x50. After a little while the screen goes to a half-tone gray and the machine powers down. Unlike Marek, when I restart I get no errors, just a standard boot. Other than that, I love Maverick! Thanks for any help you can give me. [Bug 718258] [NEW] Slow burning, cannot expell the medium and 30+ minutes to create a (useless?) checksum
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: brasero I've asked brasero to burn a data DVD. 3 GB of data over a 4.4GB DVD-R medium. It was not able to burn a 16x DVD-R medium with a 8x DVD+/-R/RW (HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20L) but at 2x, while K3B on the same hardware was able to do it (before i dumped KDE for other problems). Then, after finishing the burning, it stayed idle for 30+ minutes in calculating checksum. System load was almost 0. I cancelled this step and soon after brasero said it was not able to expel the medium. Of course K3B is able to do so and also the eject command line tool can, with the very same system user permissions. I feel all these are bugs. [Bug 409482] Re: Properties not kept after closing Rhythmbox
Maybe the following information helps. I had the same problem, but could relate it back to: Case 1: files having two ID3V2.4 tags, which, as far as I can tell is definately non-standard. Closest I came to diagnosing, it seemed Rythmbox changed the one, but read the other, and so nothing got ever solved. Case 2: Another one was a file that had a ID3 tag and and APE tag. In this case I am sure the APE tag was read, but nothing was written back (there was no error reported). My rescue was MP3 Diags, installed from the Download center. It could fix case 1, but I couldn't make it delete the unwanted APE tag. [Bug 718435] [NEW] poorly-aligned shading in right-mouse gnome-panel applet menus
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel Menus brought up with the right mouse button have dark and light bands which do not align properly with the text. This happens also with the indicator applet (right-click) menus. See the attached screenshot for an example. Note that I have the gnome-panel sized to 32 pixels (which results in a weird-looking lighter band at the bottom of the panel due to a combination of the background image not being stored with enough vertical pixels in the theme and not being scaled), but that does not affect the menu striations - changing gnome-panel to 24 pixels high gives exactly the same menu effect. [Bug 643298] Re: newly installed apps dont appear in applications unless unity is restarted
I see this bug as being marked as Fix Released. It's possible that what I'm seeing is just a different bug. Steps to reproduce: 1. Download any .deb package that ordinarily adds a launcher to the menus. I used the latest Google Chrome package from Google. 2. Install the package with `dpkg -i'. 3. Launcher does not appear in the Unity applications menu. You must restart Unity (I just logged out, and back in, to X) for it to appear. Hope this helps.
