[Bug 718215] Re: gedit crash on save as

2011-02-14 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 713768] Re: login fails; freezes after selecting user from the face browser

2011-02-14 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Hi Martin-Éric,

Thanks for reporting this issue. I don't think it's a GDM bug, though, but the
problem seems to be caused by the incorrect LANGUAGE value fi_FI.UTF-8. You
are not expected to use a complete locale name to denote a language in the
LANGUAGE priority list, and neither .utf8 nor .UTF-8 shall be included.
http://www.gnu.org/software/hello/manual/gettext/The-LANGUAGE-variable.html

The latest released GDM version (2.32.0-0ubuntu7) would not have stopped
you from logging in, but that's actually a coincidence. No program will
protect you fully from mistakes when you edit config files manually. ;-)

[Bug 14335] Re: nautilus wants to execute all text files on vfat and ntfs drives

2011-02-14 Thread kaleidoscopeit
What about simple ELF executables? They doesn't work anymore!
Futhermore the .exe files won't executes in the same way, because Wine tells me
that this files are not marked as executable.

Now on Maverick you cannot run .exe and simple ELF executables

For me is a problem because I've done a work based on Wine witch I've
called 'Wine Portables' : using the intresting concept from playonlinux
I've builted a lot of 'portable software' in a self contained wine
binaries+wineprefix folders and I use this 'portable' very often. This
includes a lot of common software like Ms Office, Autocad, Photoshop,
Google sketchup and a lot of click'n'run portables windows games.

I used to keep this software in an external hard-drive because I use
this softwares both at home and at work.

A quick fix to make this type of software again playable is to include
also ELF executables in the list of file types which have to marked as
'excutable'

Bye.

There is only a list in the kernel, and it's doing name based
matching. So what you could do is to append an .exe extension to
your ELF file?

Really? My apologies if I was too hasty, but when I saw ProcEnviron:

something like:

export LANGUAGE=fi_FI.utf8

that line.

Anyway, could you please try the latest development packages of GDM and
language-selector at https://launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/+archive/language-

[Bug 14335] Re: nautilus wants to execute all text files on vfat and ntfs drives

2011-02-14 Thread kaleidoscopeit
For the real Windows executable (.exe) Wine notify me that the file are
not marked as executable and the I've to copy this file on my internal
storage and then set the execute bit on

For the ELF linux binary there's no way, if I rename it appending .exe
the system try to execute this file via Wine but obviusly is not the
right way

I've a bash script that add in the PATH environment variable the
standalone Wine kit taken from Playonlinux e use this specific version
for run a specific portable WINEPREFIX

Sadly Is mandatory to run ELF executable from the location where is
stored the 'wine-portable' software and in this case the location is in
an external storage.

[Bug 718696] [NEW] gnome-keyboard-properties crashed with assertion failure when removing keymap

2011-02-14 Thread Jörn-Ingo Weigert
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu natty (development branch)

Deutsch (german) in the gnome-keyboard-properties --

gnome-control-center:

I have installed currently two keymaps:
- de-latin1-nodeadkeys
- de-latin1

If I remove de-latin1 (Deutsch/German) and close the application
gnome-keyboard-properties,
the application crashed immediately and apport tries to catch up the failure
but given up, cause it cant handle the assertion failure
as it notice me in a message-box.

The keyboard-applet in the control-center also left away...

If I reopen the program via System-Preferences-Keyboard it shows no changes
on available keymaps (cause it crashed ;-))
I hope in the attached files there are some hints.. its created via apport-bug

The problem is gone since I have edited out the extraneous .utf8 that
has been appended by GDM. My current dmrc looks like:

[Desktop]
Session=gnome
Language=fi_FI.UTF-8
Layout=fi
Langlist=fi_FI.UTF-8:fi
LCMess=fi_FI.UTF-8

... and it works.

I have never used any language selector since the system defaults to the
correct language (Finnish) for me.

Hello Sebastien,

I followed the instructions on the Page you gave me,
and installed the gnome-control-center-dbgsym-package.
(as I mentioned it is the right one..)
as i further followed the instructions to get a Backtrace with gdb

I tried:

gdb gnome-keyboard-settings 21 | tee ~/gnome-keyboard-properties.txt

with no success, gdb comes up, but no start of
gnome-keyboard-properties.

If I start it manually, it comes up...
What did I wrong ?

Kind regards

Is there any way to save the one that was defaulted during an upgrade ?

This was discussed some more in #ubuntu-desktop, and we agree that it'd
be better to backport the gnome-control-center 3 patch which copies

[Bug 718853] [NEW] the trash can is full, but it's displayed as empty

2011-02-14 Thread Giuse
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

If I delete a file, and then I open the trash, I can see the file that I
removed (and this is ok).
BUT if the removed file had got a symbol associated it's not displayed in the
trash but it appears in the folder ~/.local/share/Trash/files

This happens in my two computer (one with ubuntu 10.04 64bit and the
other with ubuntu 10.04 32 bit, one laptop and one desktop).

To add a symbol to the file I do: right click, properties, symbols, select
symbol.
Thanks.

An other thing:
if I move the mouse pointer over the trash it's displayed: 1 object in the
trash. But, as I said before, opening the trash I can't see anything.

[Bug 718873] [NEW] safe to remove notice shows up before drive is ready to be removed

2011-02-14 Thread steubens
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

i suspect this is because this message is shown after a sync, but if you
remove it before you see it actually disappear in the list of volumes in
nautilus you get various errors about not being able to send scsi
sync/flush commands

steps to reproduce:
1) plug in drive
2) sync before eject, or leave it idle so theres nothing to write (not required
but helps)
3) eject, pull when dialogue says its' ok and before it disappears in nautilus

expected: volume already be synced and gone before that dialogue appears
actually happened: unplugging the drive will make the safe to remove notice
disappear, but a few seconds later you get an error box talking about scsi
sense failures and trying to flush the drive cache

i didn't take a screenshot last time, but i'll try to remember to take
one

[Bug 160311] Re: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult

2011-02-14 Thread Neilen Marais
In reply to #245 by The Fiddler:

I'm not sure if our experience differs or if I did not explain my
proposed solution well enough. I find that I have no difficulty getting
the resize pointer to appear momentarily while moving across the window
border, the problem lies in actually clicking while the resize pointer
is active. The proposed solution would fix that, since the resize
pointer will remain active for several pixels once activated.

In any case, so long as a working solution if shipped in Natty I guess
I'm satsified!

Re: [Bug 718696] Re: gnome-keyboard-properties crashed with assertion failure when removing keymap

2011-02-14 Thread Jörn-Ingo Weigert
I tried it several times, I leave de-latin1-nodeadkeys and remove
de-latin1, if I restart the program, it shows me de-latin1 was removed.

After I did a restart and run the program again, it shows me both
keymaps again.
If I try to set the changes system-wide, sometimes policykit-1 crashed
with a NULL VMA - Error, sometimes not...

But allways after a restart of my Notebook, both keymapswhere shown up
again. weird..

Just as a info...

[Bug 562476] Re: x-www-browser and gnome-www-browser not use the default browser

2011-02-14 Thread Thibault Lemaitre
I tried to reproduce this bug. I'm running Ubu 10.10 and I have Firefox
and Chromium installed. Chromium installed after Firefox.

I first set the default web browser to Firefox with gnome-default-
applications-properties.

Then I tried several command in relation with web browser.

Some of them opened the default browser I chose:
xdg-open http://ubuntu.com
gnome-open http://ubuntu.com

The others opened Chromium, that I didn't choose:
x-www-browser
gnome-www-browser
sensible-browser

The gnome-default-applications-properties should set all these command
to the default web browser you selected in.

** Summary changed:

- x-www-browser and gnome-www-browser not use the default browser
+ x-www-browser, sensible-browser and gnome-www-browser don't use the default
browser

2011-02-14 Thread Omer Akram
thanks for the bug report and sorry for the inconvenience. To report a
bug you need to report each problem separately so that it is easy for
people to read and understand bugs. Since you bug dont have any useful
data and contains three different bugs. I am closing this bug as
invalid. Please report a new bug or bugs if you are facing multiple
problems by following the procedure here.

PS: You can install pidgin from ubuntu software center which should have
a better support for Yahoo. and also audio/video calls for yahoo dont
work in empathy or pidgin for that matter.
