[Bug 637405] Re: Evince asks for samba authentication when it doesn't need to.
I don't think this is evince releated... Also if you, when adding the printer in system-config-printer - Add - Network printer - Windows Printer via Samba, choose Set authentication details now instead of Promt user if authentication is required, your password will be remembered... And if you're login details are wrong it will offer you the option of saving them... So it seems that the Promt user if authentication is required never allows the user to save the login credentials, this is inconsistent and doesn't really make sense... This is probably a bug in the part of gnome that manages printer authentication... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/637405 Title: Evince asks for samba authentication when it doesn't need to. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Re: [Bug 727823] Re: Enable Gnome-Control-Center in Unity, and add System Settings link to the session indicator menu
Ah. The problem with that is that the contents are unpredictable. We could put it there, we could also put it in the Shortcuts that appear when you click on the Ubuntu button (and which are for Natty at least always accessible that way). The advantage of putting it in the last indicator menu is that it can be consistent across all the desktop interfaces. Also, the roadmap for the indicators introduces a device menu, in the top right corner, which would have the settings in it, so we're triangulating to that destination here. We can however do some tests on discoverability and tweak this before release if there's a problem. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 23810] Re: Evolution is unusable in 1024x768
Leo I understand your arguments that Ubuntu does not maintain Evolution but distributes it. However Evolution is the default mail client (including calendar manager/address book/etc.) of Ubuntu. Since such kind of application is used a lot it has a higher responsibility for the user experience. Other applications that carry higher responsibility are for example the web browser or file manager. I assume these applications are selected to be the default, because they match the Ubuntu philosophy. So when there is something in such an application that is in conflict with that philosophy, then it deserves more attention. You could say that fixing this bug is not the responsibility of the Ubuntu project, but then I think you forgot that Ubuntu is Open Source. Since Evolution is such an important application within the distribution, I think the Ubuntu project should collaborate with the Evolution project. So the person who is assigned to this bug should communicate with the Evolution developers to solve it. I assume there has been some communication, but apparently good not enough, otherwise the bug report would not still be open AFTER MORE THAN FIVE YEARS. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/23810 Title: Evolution is unusable in 1024x768 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 23810] Re: Evolution is unusable in 1024x768
I also would like to make a suggestion that could serve as a nice fix until the Evolution developers come up with a solution. This fix would require only adding a few lines of code: Go to the piece of code that creates the preferences window. Now add there code that creates a GtkScrolledWindow and GtkViewport and makes the GtkViewport the child of the GtkScrolledWindow. Now in the code there must be a line where a widget is made the child of the preferences window. Modify this line such that instead of making the window the parent of the widget, we make the GtkViewport the widget's parent. Finally you have to make the GtkScrolledWindow the child of the preferences window. As a result we will have a preferences window that can be resized to fit the screen: in the case where the window wouldn't fit before, the user can now use scrollbars.

The indicators are (mostly) system space. I don't think that is a clear distinction at all. Music, mail, chat, social networking etc are all present in the indicators and these seem to me to be user space. But putting that aside, it seems to me that the launcher is intended to be the place where users *start* things and I still don't see any meaningful reason not to include settings alongside applications there. The advantage of putting it in the last indicator menu is that it can be consistent across all the desktop interfaces. Again, that argument doesn't apply to any other item in the left hand menu? All of the things that are going in the launcher are optional. The system still works without any of 'em. That's also true of the settings (which are currently present in the applications launcher already). -- Matthew East http://www.mdke.org gnupg pub 1024D/0E6B06FF -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-menus in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/727823 Title: Enable Gnome-Control-Center in Unity, and add System Settings link to the session indicator menu -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 637405] Re: Evince asks for samba authentication when it doesn't need to.
Yes. I see the same behavior from gedit and from anything which uses the default gnome print dialog. I do not get this behavior from open office though. (I think its because open office uses a different print managing method.) Actually I was able to get around the problem by hardcoding my username and password into the DeviceURI field in printers.conf. Its not a great solution since my password is written in plaintext, but it serves as a workaround. As I side note, I had some success using AuthInfoRequired none in printer.conf. [Bug 95853] Re: Add an option to get a confirmation dialog before sending files to the trash in Nautilus
Paul: the attached file will patch correctly against nautilus 2.32.2.1 The current schema you are referring to has nothing to do with this bug. The confirm_trash boolean value will ask user a confirmation before emptying the trashbin or before deleting files without passing through the trash first. Bug #95853 is about having a confirmation when you move files to the trash (mainly because if you hit the delete key on your keyboard without noticing it you will lose stuff). My patch adds a new schema variable in apps/nautilus/confirm_movetotrash and that will let the user decide whether they will have a confirmation prompt or not. ** Patch added: nautilus-2.32.2.1-confirmtotrash.patch https://bugs.launchpad.net/nautilus/+bug/95853/+attachment/1907775/+files/nautilus-2.32.2.1-confirmtotrash.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/95853 Title: Add an option to get a confirmation dialog before sending files to the trash in Nautilus -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 569273] Re: memory leak in gnome-power-manager
I have looked into this and have a fix and an explanation. First, please be mindful of this bugs many subscribers before following up with non-technical comments. The bug appears to be in libappindicator itself. The call to app_indicator_set_menu leaks the old menu every time a new menu is passed in. It should instead sink any floating ref on the old menu than just unconditionally adding a new reference (see [1] for technical details on what the heck that means). There's actually two possible ways to fix this. (A) change libappindicator to sink the ref, which would arguably be an API change. Or (B) change gnome-power-manager to manually unref the menu after passing it to libappindicator. I'm going with (A) for now and have filed a patch against libappindicator [2]. I suspect that even if method (A) is approved and merged for natty, method (B) is most appropriate for any possible SRUs. [Bug 734305] [NEW] Using Keyboard to Change Backlight causes gdm to become non-responsive
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Ubuntu 11.04 Alpha3 Running on an Acer 5810TZ, in prior versions 10.10 and 10.04 the adjusting the display brightness via the hotkeys would lock up the whole system graphically, although some have reported the system was running underneath, I was unable to test. Now the brightness keys work correctly, however afterwards the top panel and applications ignore any mouse / keyboard input, however brightness can still be adjusted. When adjusting the brightness the indicator does not show the brightness level (as it does for volume). In versions 10.10 of both xubuntu and kubuntu the hotkeys did not cause any issues. The problem seems to be specific to ubuntu specifically something in gnome. The CD is burnt, not pressed and is less than one month old. Copying 96 MB of data from it to the hard disk goes at normal speed. The same problem occurs on another laptop running fully updated Ubuntu 10.04. My PC is configured as a dual boot system with Windows XP beside Ubuntu. Under Windows XP on this computer, the questionable CD is automounted with no problems. I assume there must be something like a not closed session or other non-standart feature with this CD.
