 Title:
Not all desktop items are themed

Status in “gnome-settings-daemon” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

 Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

After every reboot or logoff/logon or even a user switch, the selected
themes do not get applied to all desktop components. In my case,
window decorations, borders and window buttons are properly themed,
but the top and bottom panel and nautilus, desktop icons, and firefox
buttons are the default gnome theme.

I can get my theme to completely apply by finding gnome-settings-
daemon task and killing it, then running it again. The panels will be
properly themed then, but it seems nothing is getting nautilus, the
desktop icons, or firefox buttons to receive the theme. I am running
the newest Nvidia proprietary drivers offered to me by Maverick,
  256.44.

[Bug 743523] [NEW] Empathy thinks a server certificate from www.EXAMPLE.com isn't from EXAMPLE.com

2011-03-27 Thread Feathertail
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

PROBLEM

When I go to log into LiveJournal's XMPP server on Empathy, I get a
dialogue that says:

The identity provided by the chat server cannot be verified.
The hostname verified by the certificate doesn't match the server name.
Expected hostname: livejournal.com
Certificate hostname: www.livejournal.com

This dialogue comes up every time I open Empathy or reconnect to the
server, unless I tell it to ignore certificate errors in the advanced
preferences under Accounts.

HOW TO REPRODUCE

1. Sign up for a LiveJournal account.
2. Log into their XMPP server using Empathy. Instructions are available at
http://www.livejournal.com/chat/

In light of the fact that Empathy's Accounts menu includes an option to
ignore certificate errors, it seems likely that this error can be
reproduced on other XMPP servers.

EXPECTED BEHAVIOR

Empathy will not throw up error messages that suggest that it lacks
basic reading comprehension skills.

[Bug 80702] Re: Keyboard indicator flags are missing

2011-03-27 Thread kernst
I suppose I should just learn how to make an Ubuntu package. But you can
use the (fairly complete) famfamfam flags icon set from
http://www.famfamfam.com/lab/icons/flags/, which is free for any
purpose with no requirement for attribution to get really nice looking
flag icons for the keyboard layout indicator with just a little effort.

Unzip the famfamfam icons into ~/.icons/flags as mentioned above. Then
open a terminal, 'cd' into ~/.icons/flags, and type the following
command (ImageMagick [package: imagemagick] must be installed):

mogrify -background none -gravity center -extent 24x24 *.png

This command puts the flags on a 24x24 pixel transparent background to
prevent them from being scaled (and distorted) to 24x24. Then set the
gconf key as described above
(/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/indicator/showFlags) using gconf-
editor and you're in business.

2011-03-27 Thread Stefan Bethge
Btw, this is actually a bug in the calendar applet. The command that is called
looks something like this evolution calendar:///?startdate=20110328T22Z
after clicking on march 29th. Evolution actually opens that date correctly.
Will this be fixed/not happen in natty since it doesn't use the panel anymore?

Thank you for your bug report. When you say it wont let me write

[Bug 743761] [NEW] Gnome reverts partially to default theme and fonts; gnome-session[...]: GLib-GObject-CRITICAL: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed in syslog

2011-03-27 Thread David-Sarah Hopwood
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

The icons, fonts, and some (but not all) window styling in Gnome
suddenly reverted to the default theme. At the same time, an instance of
Firefox crashed, although I don't know whether the Firefox crash caused
the Gnome problem or vice-versa.

This line in /var/log/syslog appeared to be logged also at the same
time:

Mar 27 18:05:46 shiny gnome-session[1470]: GLib-GObject-CRITICAL:
g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed

Opening the System | Preferences | Appearance applet caused the
configured theme to be restored. (The theme uses Crux controls and
TangoDance borders, with some custom edits to .gtkrc-2.0 and the
TangoDance metacity-theme-1.xml file, but I'm not sure that's relevant.)

These symptoms are similar to
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1575703 , but I don't have the
segfault in gnome-settings described there, so the cause may be
different.

Because this only happened once and gnome-session did not actually
crash, I can't get a stacktrace from the time of the crash. If there's
any other information I should collect, please say. The instance of
gnome-session is still running.

[Bug 743824] [NEW] Computer is a place, not an app

2011-03-27 Thread bitu-derr
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

In Lucid and Maverick, when I open Nautilus, my unmounted partitions, as
well as attached devices like mp3 players, show up automatically in the
left pane. This makes Nautilus and means and paradigms by which I
accessed Nautilus the goto way for me to find something quickly prior to
Natty.

Today, after installing todays Natty updates, I click the panel button
and start looking in the springboard and overlays for a way to get to
Nautilus. First time, clicking Find Files opens Nautilus, but does not
show unmounted partitions or attached devices in the left pane. So
moving screenshots over to my Lucid partition quickly was not going to
happen.

The second time around, clicking Find More Apps revealed the
Computer shortcut. Guess what, that launched Nautilus, and this time
partitions and devices showed up in the left pane.

(For the record, in both cased, Nautilus crashed).

Whatever ways Natty would have me relearn how to launch Nautilus,
Nautilus should always have everything present every time, no matter how
I opened Nautilus.

Never mind that the relearning how to open Nautilus is in itself a
productivity killer and another whole design faux pas in itself. My
computer is not a smartphone, and therefore it is not as ~limited~ as a
smartphone. Failing to recognize that is about as far from revolutionary
as you can get, and yields change for the mere sake of being different.

Since Nautilus kept crashing today, I hope the missing places in the
left pane of Nautilus is just a temporary bug. If not, and it is on
purpose, then this is the kind of ~feature~ removal I expect from Gnome
developers, but not from Ubuntu developers.

[Bug 743914] [NEW] Unable to send e-mail - no error

2011-03-27 Thread Jeff Glen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When I try to send e-mail, the mail just sits in the outbox and doesn't
get sent. There are no errors to speak of and this the first time I have
experienced this problem with e-mail in 5 years of using Evolution with
various versions of Ubuntu. The e-mail account does work when I go into
through my web mail (www.netfirms.ca) so my domain host seems to be
fine.

A couple more things:

* The js-config script will conflict. Not quite sure what to do with it; most
distros ship pkg-config, which is really better in all conceivable ways.
* Speaking of pkg-config, this does *not* ship a .pc file (it lives in
mozilla-central/xulrunner/installer). Would you take a patch to add one, say
spidermonkey-185.pc?

Normal practice is to only ship generated files in the foo.tar.gz, not
in revision control. In the same way that firefox-4.0.source.tar.bz2
includes configure, but mozilla-central doesn't.

[Bug 740815]

2011-03-27 Thread Chris Coulson
I've actually packaged this in Ubuntu now, but I hit a couple of
unexpected issues:

1) js-config --libs doesn't return the right linker flags (-lmozjs)

2) Even though it builds an ABI versioned so, the soname of the
resulting ELF binary is still unversioned (ie, libmozjs185.so rather
than libmozjs185.so.1.0). This would mean we couldn't support multiple
ABI's, which would make it difficult to do an ABI transition in the
future.

I have patches for both of these problems, although the patch for 2) is
a bit hacky.

2011-03-27 Thread Wes Garland
Chris -- argh, thanks for catching the js-config bug. I'll be cutting a
new release to address that specific issue RSN.

Thanks also for your SONAME patch: that's something I don't have a lot
of experience with.

Mike -- I named the library libmozjs185.so rather than libmozjs.so
specifically because it doesn't work as a drop-in for any previously-
released libmozjs.so (not even close -- see the release notes).

Versioning the spidermonkey library based on the JavaScript version it
implements (1.8.5) doesn't make much sense to me; I prefer to think of
this as version 1.0.0 of the library which implements JavaScript 1.8.5.
Trying to connect solib versioning with language versioning has, at
least in the past, been completely and utterly futile.

Thanks for pointing out the header bug, BTW. I agree that it should be
fixed, and in fact tried to fix it in the past. Maybe now that I know
my way around better I can try again.

I believe that the 1.8.5 numbering scheme is a pretty bad one, and is
only there because of history. Perhaps we should change it; maybe to the

I don't think it matters a lot, honestly. I really would rather we
ship. libspidermonkey does make more sense to me though if someone
cares to rework the tree though, so we're *very* clearly distinguished
from --enable-shared-js from mozilla-central.

I believe that the 1.8.5 numbering scheme is a pretty bad one, and is only

So combining, you're proposing libspidermonkey-4.so ?

[Bug 740815]

2011-03-27 Thread Ash-mozilla

I believe that the 1.8.5 numbering scheme is a pretty bad one, and is only
there because of history. Perhaps we should change it; maybe to the Firefox
version number or the Gecko one.

 So combining, you're proposing libspidermonkey-4.so ?

As someone else mentioned, there is also the version numbers from the
moz central tree - for instance FF4 was 2.0:
http://hg.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla-2.0/tags

But i would also rather we ship with what we have now than get bogged
down in deciding something else if there isn't a clear consensus.

Personally the 'JS version' has always seemed fairly arbitrary, and also
I don't imagine there will change very fast - so using FF or moz
versions would be far superior.

[Bug 740815]

2011-03-27 Thread Jorendorff
 (In reply to comment #30)
(Apologies if this is bikeshedding or a repeat of previous discussion)

(Well-aimed kick to the shins)

I don't think anything has changed since comment 5. See the last three
paragraphs there.

Since we're deliberately changing the name, maybe libspidermonkey is a better
name? I agree that putting 185 in the name isn't good. When we change to
 1.9.0,
would we have to change the SO name? That can't be right.

It isn't ideal, but it reflects reality. I would be thrilled to ship a
SM with no stupid version number in its name. We should totally do that,
as soon as have a sane upgrade story. First things first.

Fixing SM versioning was a non-goal for this release. Help us get it
right in the next one.

(In reply to comment #32)
I don't think it matters a lot, honestly. I really would rather we ship.

This, with a bullet.
