[Bug 401823] Re: Gdk-WARNING **: XID collision, trouble ahead

2011-03-31 Thread D. Hugh Redelmeier
If you read enough of this bz entry, you will see that it cannot be
fixed by a new Adobe Flash. Proof: I have the problem but don't have
Flash installed.

My best guess is that this is a GTK bug. You will see hints of this if
you read the whole bz entry. Or just look for GTK.

[Bug 746266] [NEW] bring back missing 3D support warning

2011-03-31 Thread Martin Pitt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

In alpha-3 we used to have a warning If you are using the live-CD
images, and do not have the 3D drivers installed for your hardware, you
may see a message like Sorry you don't have 3D support, install it for
your graphic hardware to get Unity or please reboot and select Classic
Session at startup.

This seems to have disappeared in beta-1. It should actually not be
shown on a live system ([ -d /rofs ]), but presumably for normal
installations _if_ there is a 3D driver available (- ask jockey?)

IMHO this is served better by the already existing jockey notification,
and the nvidia/fglrx drivers already point out that you need them for
unity, but this might be a design requirement.

[Bug 746199] Re: gedit crashes - no apparent reason

2011-03-31 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 642877] Re: Gnome-panel doesn't start upon login

2011-03-31 Thread Eliah Kagan
When I originally experienced this bug (and reported it as bug 742143),
it was on the live CD. But I had neglected to say that, shortly
thereafter, I discovered that it applied to the newly installed system
as well, even after I had updated it, and that it also applies to
another Natty system (with equivalent hardware), since I updated that
system. The panels sometimes are drawn, but usually are not. That they
are sometimes drawn is the reason why I had originally thought that the
problem only affected the live CD -- when I first logged in on the
installed system, the panels were drawn correctly.

Something else I had neglected to say was that the panels clearly are
doing *something* while running (even though they're not drawn), because
I am able to run programs from the Alt+F2 menu (which doesn't come up,
from that shortcut key combination, unless gnome-panel is running).

These virtual machines are fully updated, and still have the problem. I
have upgraded VMware from 7.1.3 to 7.1.4 (and upgraded VMware Tools--the
guest drivers--accordingly), and the problem occurs. The problem also
occurs (in the case of a newly installed system, installed with today's
daily-live) before VMware Tools is installed. It appears to happen
occasionally with the live CD, and most of the time with an installed
system.

I know everybody tends to want their bugs to be prioritized higher than
they are, so perhaps I'm indulging in that...but since many people run
Ubuntu inside VMware (including for production use, not just for
testing), and this bug affects a package that nearly every desktop user
of Ubuntu uses, and is using almost 100% of the time, that perhaps this
bug should be rated higher than Low. It seems that it would be
unfortunate if Natty made it all the way through the beta phase without
its interface being functional on VMware virtual machines.

Of course, no one else has yet confirmed that this happens in all
*their* VMware virtual machines.

Rather than listing specific details about the configuration of my
virtual machines (which are similarly configured to one another), I'll
instead attach the .vmx file for one of them, which provides all that
information. (This is a tiny file--I'm not actually attaching the other
associated files, such as the file representing the virtual machine's
hard disk. It's just hardware configuration that I'm trying to convey.)

[Bug 740346] Re: History in gnome-terminal not saving after close terminal

2011-03-31 Thread axeoth
Hi,

I think this is a duplicata of:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bash/+bug/725327

Apparently, for bash, this is an intended change: see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bash/+bug/725327/comments/6

Anyway, if bash's behavior changed, it is now to its GUI shell (i.e.
gnome-terminal) to fill the gap of a previously existant, now lost,
functionality.

 I rise two suggestions:

 - either adding to the GUI a new button (menu) to save with history, i.e. a
shortcut for typing exit then enter (history is still saved when exit is
typed)
 - either modifying the close button of the window to no more send
interruption signal to bash, but to send the CTRL-D combination key. however,
this is somewhat inconsistent with the GUI philosophy, where close button
generally means interruption signal.

Re: [Bug 731481] Re: second window does not open CTRL-T

2011-03-31 Thread Bernhard Kleine
Hi,

sorry I was to fast:

It worked only once: I had opened nautilus with the (standard) home
directory and could open a second tab using ctrl-T. But then again, when
I tried to change from home to a network directory, this took forever
and the network directory thus was never loaded, which worked, however,
when taking the corresponding entry from a fresh single tab working
nautilus. After that, even a second home directory tab could not be
launched. the same error as reported.

Please find enclosed the outcome from the suggested command.

Greetings

Bernhard

[Bug 746160] Re: evince do not have print button on natty

2011-03-31 Thread Robert Roth
In my opinion the menu location has to do with that in the following way:
before Natty, the menu was in the evince window. In Natty, the menu is not so
easily discoverable (there is another bug on this issue). Regardless of that,
let's take the most common use-cases of using evince : it is meant to handle
PDF files. What can people do with PDF files?
* read/scroll through PDF files - available with scrolling and using the
next/previous page buttons in the toolbar
* go to page number - available in the toolbar
* search pdf - available toolbar
* print - only available in the menu, but can be added to the toolbar
I think these are the most commonly used features of evince.

As the toolbar editor supports adding the print toolbar item, I think it
would be nice to have it added by default.

[Bug 746298] [NEW] uneven padding for thumbnails

2011-03-31 Thread Robert Roth
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Thumbnails in the side pane of evince are unevenly padded. When setting
the side pane width for the thumbnails to fit in the pane without having
a horizontal scrollbar on the bottom, the left padding does not equal
the right padding of the thumbnail. This is visible on all thumbnails,
but the paddings can be easily compared (also by eye) on the selected
thumbnail. There is a 7px padding on the left of the thumbnail selection
and a 15px padding on the right of the thumbnail selection.

The best would be to have a max 7 px padding on both sides, thus the
minimum value required to show the thumbnails pane without having a
horizontal scrollbar would de reduced with at least 8px.

it has likely been fixed in that upload

[Bug 745741] Re: rythymbox crashing

[Bug 644245] Re: gcalctool doesn't allow ~0 operation in hex mode

2011-03-31 Thread janisozaur
it is indeed fixed in maverick, but to the best of my knowledge, 10.04 has LTS
status. Perhaps the gcalctool from maverick could be backported to 10.04?
I have switched to 10.10 since the bug was reported, so I can no longer tell if
it has already been fixed for lucid.

2011-03-31 Thread Robert Roth
I can not reproduce this on Maverick, with gcalctool 5.32.0. I have
assigned the Favorites shortcut key to Launch the calculator, and when
pressed, calculator is launched. I have tried launching in all modes,
and none of them have the behaviour you describe. Could you please try
it on your computer and see if it is still reproducible?

2011-03-31 Thread Robert Roth
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gcalctool

gcalctool 5.32.0 on Maverick
Steps to reproduce:
1) Enable Show thousands separator in Preferences
2) Open Calculator in Programming Mode
3) Enter ~0 and press Enter -
1,111,111,111,111,111,111,111,111,111,111,111,111,111,111,111,111,111,111,111,111,111
 is displayed
4) Switch to decimal from the base selection combo - 18446744073709551615,
does not have thousand separators
5) Switch back to Binary -
 is displayed

Expected result :
4) 18,446,744,073,709,551,615 should be displayed
5)
1,111,111,111,111,111,111,111,111,111,111,111,111,111,111,111,111,111,111,111,111,111

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

* Is this reproducible?
* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?

This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

I have set it to confirmed, as I have experienced it once after checking
the scenario you have reported, but I can not reproduce this since then.
