[Bug 401823] Re: Gdk-WARNING **: XID collision, trouble ahead

2011-04-01 Thread rajhanschinmay
I am using 3.6.13 version of Firefox along with Adobe Flash player version 10.0
in Ubuntu 10.04.
I am getting this error.

(unknown:1716): Gdk-WARNING **: XID collision, trouble ahead

I tried upgrading my Firefox version to 3.7 once but I found it was not at all
a stable version and crashed multiple times.
so now I decided to use this version which is performing well except above
warnings.

someone above has suggested to use latest Macromedia flash player.
http://download.macromedia.com/pub/labs/flashplatformruntimes/flashplayer10-3/flashplayer10-3_b1_lin_030811.tar.gz

I downloaded this file. It is a tar file. I extracted it.
Inside it, there is a file like *.so and one folder.
kindly let me know how to install that.

I am having multiple users in Linux. so I would want to install it in such a
way that all the other users also can use the same flash player.
kindly let me know the steps.

if .deb kind of file exists for this flash player, then kindly give me the link.
Installing that is much easier and safer.

Yours
Chinmay

[Bug 284443] Re: gdmsetup: Don't offer autologin for ecryptfs users

2011-04-01 Thread Robert Ancell
Hmm, I tried to do this properly but GDM has beaten me.
So then I tried to make it look for the auto-mount file in the home directory
and start the login process but still prompt the user but GDM wasn't having any
of that either.
I've got it now checking for the file, and just ignoring the autologin entirely
if the user has ecryptfs.

[Bug 747072] [NEW] Ubuntu is suddenly becoming non-responsive ( freezing ) in various scenarios

2011-04-01 Thread HX_unbanned
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

This issue is struggling me for already ~ 2 months or so, so I decided
to collect the data and report and HOP[E THAT SOMEONE will actualy do
something, not just say usual stuff / crap like your package is non
genuine ubuntu package or use the packages that are native for your
distribution and version et cetera ...

So, in most cases this non-responsiveness / freeze occurs after:

1. Opening Opera 11.01 ( latest for Ubuntu ) if FireFox 4.0 is opened ;
2. Machine Uptime, lomger than 12 hours ( in idle ) ...

Result sometimes, after freezing and thus waiting is that GDM is crashed
and automatically I am dropped to bash ( w/o GUI ).

In this non-GUI mode there is line with message saying Plymouth:
crashed.

After runniing /etc/init.d/gdm restart system successfuly launches
Gnome and PC is usable again.

This issue occurs with various kernels ( MGTK 2.6.36 ; .37 ) and various

[Bug 747072] Re: Ubuntu is suddenly becoming non-responsive ( freezing ) in various scenarios

2011-04-01 Thread HX_unbanned
** Also affects: plymouth
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gdm

  This issue is struggling me for already ~ 2 months or so, so I decided
  to collect the data and report and HOP[E THAT SOMEONE will actualy do
  something, not just say usual stuff / crap like your package is non
  genuine ubuntu package or use the packages that are native for your
  distribution and version et cetera ...

  So, in most cases this non-responsiveness / freeze occurs after:

- 1. Opening Opera 11.01 ( latest for Ubuntu )
+ 1. Opening Opera 11.01 ( latest for Ubuntu ) if FireFox 4.0 is opened ;

  Fglrx ( previously with AMD Catalyst 10.12 ; now with AMD Catalyst 11.3
  ) versions. I simply do not know what are my options.

  Please inform what logs you need.

[Bug 644644] Re: Frequent PA crashes during playback - pa_stream_cork() failed: Connection terminated and pa_stream_writable_size(): Connection failed

2011-04-01 Thread David Henningsson
** Description changed:

+ *
+ SRU Justification
+ *
+
+ Justification: This is a medium-to-high impact bug as PulseAudio crashes,
causing non-working playback and recording. It is especially troublesome for
machines with low CPU power (e g Intel Atom based machines).
+ Regression risk: Low - the patches are both in Natty and upstream since 2-3
months back and no regressions have been reported.
+ Howto: please apply the maverisk-sru.debdiff patch to gst-plugins-good-0.10.
+ Test: on a troublesome machine - pulseaudio won't crash anymore after this
patch has been applied. To verify that PulseAudio is crashing for the same
reason as this patch fixes, take a PulseAudio verbose log (according to
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/PulseAudio/Log ) - in this crashing scenario, the log is
filled with extreme amounts of Processing Rewind messages.
+
+ *
+
  Binary package hint: pulseaudio

  With the recent kernel and pa upgrades in Maverick I am seeing very
  frequent crashes in Totem trying to play back audio as well as video.

  The error messages in question always arrive together and are as follows:
  pa_stream_cork() failed: Connection terminated
  pa_stream_writable_size(): Connection failed

  The machine in question is an Asus EeePC 1002HA and the problem persists
  on both the USB attached speakers and the builtin HDA device.

 It didn't correctly autodetect the encoding so I didn't see any benefit with

Alkis, can You please confirm that libnatspec is working correctly on
your machine, by installing natspec-bin frol ppa:r0lf/ppa and running
natspec -i? Does it correclty detects charsets for your locale?

Also can You post output of zipinfo -v biografiko.zip?

[Bug 740765] Re: nautilus crash: assertion failed: (NAUTILUS_IS_VIEW (view))

2011-04-01 Thread Martin Pitt
I don't think its' related to the actual change in 1:2.32.2.1-0ubuntu9,
this merely seems coincidental to me. I can't see how this patch update
could ever cause this assertion failure.

This crashes in nautilus_window_disconnect_content_view(), in g_assert
(NAUTILUS_IS_VIEW (view)); the passed view is not NULL, but apparently
it is invalid. Unfortunately it is the only place in the stack trace
whic exposes view.

Does anyone happen to have a recipe how this can reliably be reproduced?
I tried with closing windows, mounting several usb sticks and usb hard
drives at once, copying files as user, copying files on the command line
as root with sudo cp /etc/passwd /media/PittiUSB/, and so on, and
nautilus never crashed.

** Summary changed:

[Bug 740765] Re: nautilus crash: assertion failed: (NAUTILUS_IS_VIEW (view))

2011-04-01 Thread Martin Pitt
Ah, I know, it's not due to that patch change, and not even because of
17_disable_locked_automounting.patch at all. It's just that we re-
enabled SIGABRT crashes in apport without an assertion message at that
time, so before we didn't actually get these crash reports.

[Bug 740306] Re: Dragging Nautilus window painfully slow/sticky

2011-04-01 Thread Hugh Warrington
Ok, turns out this is misfiled. I /do/ see the same painful behaviour in
other programs too. I just hadn't noticed before, because the window
slowdown seems to be proportional to the fraction of monitor area filled
by the window. Yes indeed. I can only think it's a misfeature in the
window manager. I'd appreciate it if someone with more knowledge of
Ubuntu could move this bug over to the relevant package, if such a thing
is possible. Failing that, go ahead and close as invalid.

[Bug 747147] [NEW] nautilus folder properties window on netbook screen

2011-04-01 Thread Said Babayev
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Description:Ubuntu Natty (development branch)
Release:11.04

nautilus:
  Installed: 1:2.32.2.1-0ubuntu11
  Candidate: 1:2.32.2.1-0ubuntu11

 *** 1:2.32.2.1-0ubuntu11 0

Folder properties window on netbook screen is too tall to display, i.e.
on 1024x600 bottom side of window is not seen, only tops of close and
help buttons are seen.

File properties is OK

To reproduce:
1) Open Home folder
2) Right click on any folder and select properties

If your screen resolution is 1024x600 - then you'll see what I mean.

[Bug 747149] [NEW] Yelp no longer uses /desktop/gnome/interface/document_font_name

2011-04-01 Thread Luca Ferretti
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

It seems yelp changed from /desktop/gnome/interface/document_font_name
to plain /desktop/gnome/interface/font_name as GConf key setting the
font used to render the help text.

IMHO could be good to revert/patch this change, in order to allow people
to use a font well suited for large text blocks (such as Ubuntu Light).

[Bug 747175] [NEW] GDM prevents login since 2.32.0-0ubuntu13 or 14

2011-04-01 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

(sorry for not providing the usual Apport atttachments, but seeing how I
cannot log into the affected host...)

Since this morning, I can no longer log into my development laptop
running Natty. GDM's greeter log says something about display :0 being
temporarily unaccessible, even though GDM obviously runs off it.
Looking at the changelog, the only thing that might cause this behavior
is the patch to ignore some system UID in the face browser. My own user
runs as UID 1000, so it shouldn't be affected, however, it is a member
of e.g. groups 'sudo' and 'adm' which might be a factor.

[Bug 164265] Re: Transferring AAC files to iPod is broken

2011-04-01 Thread Chris Jenkins
This bug is active again in rhythmbox 13.3 . It looks like it was fixed
here:

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=508537

by adding:

} else if (strcmp (entry_mime, audio/x-m4a) == 0) {
entry_mime = audio/aac;

to sources/rb-removable-media-source.c

I think the code for determining the entry mime has moved to
backends/gstreamer/rb-encoder-gst.c and entry_mime is now
entry_media_type . I'm no programming expert but I've created a patch
which should do what the old one did.

I've tried manually killing gnome-settings-daemon before login. I can

must be a subtle race condition that is exploited more easily in a

[Bug 747287] [NEW] Default installation has many Additional startup programs in Startup Applications Preferences

2011-04-01 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Natty daily 20110327, all updates installed as of 20110401

1. Install Ubuntu and log in for the first time.
2. Launch Startup Applications.

What you see: 21 Additional startup programs are listed:
* Bluetooth Manager
* Certificate and Key Storage
* Check for new hardware drivers
* Disk Notifications
* Evolution Alarm Notify
* GNOME Login Sound
* GSettings Data Conversion
* Network Manager
* Personal File Sharing
* Power Manager
* Print Queue Applet
* PulseAudio Sound System
* PulseAudio Sound System KDE Routing Policy
* Remote Desktop
* Secret Storage Service
* SSH Key Agent
* Ubuntu One
* Update Notifier
* User folders update
* Visual Assistance
* Zeitgeist Datahub

The presence of so many items in this list makes it more difficult to
see and recognize any items that you have added yourself.

And the presence of basic system functions like Network Manager,
Power Manager, and PulseAudio Sound System makes it more likely that
people will turn them off thinking they don't need them, and then be
surprised that the OS stops working properly.

What you should see: While most of these things should be optional, none
of them (with the possible exceptions of Evolution Alarm Notify and
Ubuntu One) should be present in this list. Instead, whether they run
should be configured in more context-specific places.

  The presence of so many items in this list makes it more difficult to

  What you should see: While most of these things should be optional, none

[Bug 747287] Re: Default installation has many Additional startup programs in Startup Applications Preferences

2011-04-01 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
** Description changed:

  Ubuntu Natty daily 20110327, all updates installed as of 20110401

  1. Install Ubuntu and log in for the first time.
  2. Launch Startup Applications.

  What you see: 21 Additional startup programs are listed:
  * Bluetooth Manager
  * Certificate and Key Storage
  * Check for new hardware drivers
  * Disk Notifications
  * Evolution Alarm Notify
  * GNOME Login Sound
  * GSettings Data Conversion
  * Network Manager
  * Personal File Sharing

  * PulseAudio Sound System
  * PulseAudio Sound System KDE Routing Policy
  * Remote Desktop
  * Secret Storage Service
  * SSH Key Agent
  * Ubuntu One
  * Update Notifier
  * User folders update
  * Visual Assistance
  * Zeitgeist Datahub

- The presence of so many items in this list makes it more difficult to
- see and recognize any items that you have added yourself.
-
- And the presence of basic system functions like Network Manager,
- Power Manager, and PulseAudio Sound System makes it more likely that
- people will turn them off thinking they don't need them, and then be
- surprised that the OS stops working properly.
+ There are two problems with this. First, The presence of so many items
+ in this list makes it more difficult to see and recognize any items that
+ you have added yourself. Second, the presence of basic system functions
+ like Network Manager, Power Manager, and PulseAudio Sound System
+ makes it more likely that well-meaning people will turn them off
+ thinking they don't need them, and then be surprised that -- hours or
+ days later, after they next restart -- the OS stops working properly.

  What you should see: While most of these things should be optional, none
  of them (with the possible exceptions of Evolution Alarm Notify and
  Ubuntu One) should be present in this list. Instead, whether they run
- should be configured in more context-specific places.
+ should be configured in more context-specific places. For example,
+ whether the login sound plays should be configured in the Sound
+ Preferences Sound Effects tab, not here. And whether software updates
+ are checked automatically should be configured in the software update
+ settings, not here.
+
+ This may become a tracking bug for fixing the individual startup items.

[Bug 740765] Re: nautilus crash: assertion failed: (NAUTILUS_IS_VIEW (view))

2011-04-01 Thread spupy
This is my recipe for reproducing the crash. (I think it's the same problem -
the error message is the same).
1. Nautilus running as desktop. Open a folder.
[Optional: 2. Press Ctrl+W or select the equivalent Close from the File
menu - no crash; window closes normally.]
3. Press Ctrl+Q, the equivalent Close all windows from the File menu, or
click the Close button on the window titlebar
- all windows close, desktop icons disappear and nautilus crashes.

100% reproducible here, just updated to Beta 1

[Bug 433651] Re: Chat window grows beyond screen bounds - no text wrap when typing in the message entry

2011-04-01 Thread Fibonacci
Maximizing the window will not only not stop the issue, but make it worse
instead: the window will jump back and forth with each letter typed.
Also, resizing the window is not an adequate solution if you have to type long
texts. Eventually you'll have to resize the chat window past the screen size.

[Bug 747175] Re: GDM prevents login since 2.32.0-0ubuntu13 or 14

2011-04-01 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

 If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

 If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

 If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
 I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 747351] [NEW] Application launcher should show option to create audio cd

2011-04-01 Thread Andy Kearney
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

When a blank CD is inserted into the CD drive in Ubuntu, the application
launcher only has an option to open brasero to write a data CD. I think
there should be another option in the menu to open Brasero to write an

Another alternative may be to have the option in the application
launcher to just open Brasero at the main menu where you can then choose
what type of project you want to start.

bigger number of retries for very slow machines (like a virtual
machine), but this is confusing, since the problem was really on fast
machines.

Trying to decompress a .rar file which is protected with a password that

[Bug 649809] Re: the session settings manager can try starting before the login screen one exits

2011-04-01 Thread The Compiler
Still not fixed for me either.

Latest beta, i7 640-LM, OCZ Vertex 2 SSD.

My session is a bit special, I don't start a normal gnome. It looks like
this:

florian@hermione ~ % cat /usr/share/xsessions/compiler.desktop
[Desktop Entry]
Name=Compiler
Comment=AWN and compiz
Exec=gnome-session --session=compiler
TryExec=gnome-session
Icon=
Type=Application
X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain=gnome-session-2.0

florian@hermione ~ % cat /usr/share/gnome-session/sessions/compiler.session
[GNOME Session]
Name=Ubuntu
Required=windowmanager;panel;
Required-windowmanager=compiz
Required-panel=avant-window-navigator
DefaultApps=gnome-settings-daemon;

mb21, anything like this applies to you as well?

Also, when I'm in the session, I cannot kill the original gnome-settings-daemon
with a SIGTERM, only a SIGKILL seems to do something...
Also, for some reason, it does not happen when I use a self-baked zen kernel.

Florian

[Bug 746694] Re: GDM_LANG overrides my locales

2011-04-01 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Thanks for the confirmation, Eimann!

To all:
What you need to do if you were hit by the issue in this bug is to update the
package information in Synaptic or Update Manager or via sudo apt-get update
in a terminal window. Then, if you upgrade again, the issue should be resolved.
