[Bug 765575] [NEW] Can't unset Use compact layout setting in nautilus

2011-04-19 Thread Yrogirg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Up to date Natty 64 bit

In Nautilus 2.32.2.1 Edit - Preferences - View

I ticked Use compact layout and at least in the current folder it
turned to compact view. However I didn't like it and wanted to revert.
So I unticked this box but nothing changed.

In this specific folder the layout stays compact (other folders are all
right).

Please tell me how to revert to standard view, I don't like this
compact.

I have the same problem when using natty (all updates installed as of
today) in Virtual Box 4.0.4 (Windows), using the classic desktop. gnome-
settings-daemon crashes about 30 sec. after login, no matter whether the
vbox guest additions are installed or not. (The following .xsession-
errors is with guest utils.)

I also had random problems with gnome-settings-daemon on real hardware
(with closed nvidia driver) in beta 1, but they seem to have dissapeared
now. However, I am using Unity on this machine, not the classic desktop.

[Bug 765595] [NEW] gnome-settings-daemon crashed on printing, BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)

2011-04-19 Thread Tuomas Heino
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

Got the following in .xsession_errors when printing to printer that was
offline at the time. Ubuntu theming disappeared as result, window
decorations reset to gnome defaults.

The program 'gnome-settings-daemon' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
  (Details: serial 554557 error_code 8 request_code 15 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Not entirely sure about exact conditions that triggered this; will add
further details in comments if this issue reproduces itself.

[Bug 746028] Re: Edubuntu: Wallpapers are not updated on upgrade to Natty

2011-04-19 Thread Didier Roche
Right now on my machine, with the default wallpaper:
timestamp of the cache:
$ ls -l
~/.cache/wallpaper/zoom_1920_1080__usr_share_backgrounds_warty-final-ubuntu.png
-rw-r--r-- 1 didrocks didrocks 392625 2011-04-19 09:23
/home/didrocks/.cache/wallpaper/zoom_1920_1080__usr_share_backgrounds_warty-final-ubuntu.png

timestamp of the source image (0.31.9)
$ ls -l /usr/share/backgrounds/warty-final-ubuntu.png
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 231208 2011-03-23 23:34
/usr/share/backgrounds/warty-final-ubuntu.png

So, I created ubuntu-wallpapers 0.31.9ppa1 with a totally new wallpaper (still
warty-final-ubuntu, expressing all my artistic creation writing BRAND NEW! on
it ;)
You can find it in my ppa: https://launchpad.net/~didrocks/+archive/ppa
When I install it, I see the wallpaper changing, showing a nice Brand New!.
That's also confirmed by the timestamps:

$ ls -l
~/.cache/wallpaper/zoom_1920_1080__usr_share_backgrounds_warty-final-ubuntu.png
-rw-r--r-- 1 didrocks didrocks 670582 2011-04-19 09:30
/home/didrocks/.cache/wallpaper/zoom_1920_1080__usr_share_backgrounds_warty-final-ubuntu.png

$ ls -l /usr/share/backgrounds/warty-final-ubuntu.png
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 713318 2011-04-19 09:28
/usr/share/backgrounds/warty-final-ubuntu.png

Any hint? This should reproduce the upgrade case (we are using nautilus
in the gnome session, but it's calling the same library, and if, after
this, I try to start gdm (using g-s-d), I see the new wallpaper as well.
Can you try with the wallpaper asset in my ppa (I only changed warty-
final-ubuntu.png)

For Jonathan, here is the screenshot :)

PS: the exact same code is now in GNOME3 (I ported it, but no change at
all in the logic) and there is no bug opened against it.

With the keyring tool under System-Preferences you can change the password for

keyring will then be on your harddrive in plain text, readable for anybody who

[Bug 765398] Re: PyGObject 2.28.3 breaks ABI

2011-04-19 Thread Martin Pitt
Unfortunately the release of pygobject 2.28.4 was a bit premature, as it
removed the workaround for the broken GLib.Variant.new_variant. This was
only fixed in the yet unreleased g-i upstream git head, and not fixed at
all in glib itself yet. Thus using the pygobject 2.28.4 release with the
latest releases of glib and g-i is currently broken still.

I'll just cherrypick the patch for this then.

[Bug 765658] [NEW] No GUI to adjust touchpad properties for gdm login - bad UX

2011-04-19 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

On systems with very large touchpads (like Apple hardware) the default
behavior of touch to click is very frustrating when trying to log in.
It's very hard to not touch the touchpad when typing, if it's a large
one. So typing passwords frequently fails due to accidental touches.

This can be fixed after login using gnome-mouse-properties Enable mouse
clicks with touchpad = OFF
However this setting doesn't get applied until after login, which is too late.

[Bug 750334] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGABRT in raise()

2011-04-19 Thread Rodrigo Moya
It is Bad State indeed, I guess this happens during the time it tries to
reconnect to pulseaudio, so I would call this fixed with my latest
additions to the branch, as we would need to remove the
streams/sinks/etc outside of the idle_reconnect, and I'm not sure what
the effect would be. At least with this branch we fix the crash, and the
warning is normal, as the state of the sink is invalid.

What do you think David?

[Bug 765794] [NEW] Many standard panel applets not available

2011-04-19 Thread Oli
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Just upgraded to Natty from a Maverick install. On setting it to Classic
Mode (I want the old Panel/Applet setup for now), things kick off. I get
several Do you want to delete the applet from your configuration?
dialogues for very standard applets (nothing special) including:

WindowListApplet
ClockApplet
NotificationAreaApplet

More than that, they're not available in the Add to Panel dialogue,
suggesting they're not even on the system.

I'm really struggling without the WindowListApplet and I think I'm going
to have to get something like DockBarX or use Docky's panel mode until
this is fixed.

More information (including a screenshot) is available on an AskUbuntu question:

Here's what I think: Neither us can reproduce the crash. Put your fix in
a ppa so affected people can test and see if that helps against the
crashes. If it is helpful, we can SRU the fix.

[Bug 746028] Re: Edubuntu: Wallpapers are not updated on upgrade to Natty

2011-04-19 Thread Jonathan Carter
How bizarre. In both Stéphane and my case, we installed a brand new
maverick machine, installed all the updates, and then used update
manager again to upgrade to the latest development release. And it's
reproducible every singe time on Ubuntu and Edubuntu. I'll look a bit
deeper today to see what actually happens in our systems. I really
thought it would be easier for everyone else to reproduce. Thanks for
the screenshot :)

[Bug 754005] Re: Rhythmbox crashes when adding/deleting files in iPod

2011-04-19 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 765847] [NEW] Send to Email is missing on Natty

2011-04-19 Thread Javier Rivera
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus-sendto

When you right click on a file inside nautilus, and select Send to it
will open the usual window. But I can only select Bluetooth,
Empathy, Disk burner and Removable disks (1). In older versions
there used to be an option to send it as e-mail.

It's always repoducible, and some other people seems to be suffering it:

[Bug 571038] Re: palimpsest crash with libgdu:ERROR:gdu-pool.c:2369:device_recurse: assertion failed: (depth 100)

2011-04-19 Thread Adam Niedling
I think the problem here is that the partitions are not in the same
order as they are physically located on the disk. This is also causing
the parted bug (bug #103794). It would be much better if gparted could
fix this problem instead of just showing unallocated disk space. I guess
there is no easy way to fix my partition table.

[Bug 445084] Re: click-to-focus window is too sensitive

2011-04-19 Thread Zod
I can confirm this bug too.

It only happens with xinerama enabled.

When I open a gnome-terminal, focus on another window (does not need to
be a terminal), and click into the terminal to focus it again, it
immediately selects a whole line.

Happens with any visual effects setting.
xterm unaffected.

This never happens without xinerama (not even on a dual monitor setup).

I have Ubuntu 10.4 x64 with the latest fglrx binaries from AMD.

[Bug 748804] Re: rythmbox crashes few second after opening ubuntu 10.10

[Bug 762918] Re: Natty Screensaver freezes system after some period of inactivity

2011-04-19 Thread manzdagratiano
There were no freezes after I disabled the screensaver on the Vostro
V13. Also, while the screensaver was enabled and X froze, after killing
X through a virtual console and restarting it, it could be seen in the
gnome system monitor that Hufo's Tunnel was using ~ 100% CPU; moreover,
Helios was also present on the task list, even though I had selected
Hufo's Tunnel as the screensaver (then again, it might have to do with
the fact that I have not rebooted that machine since).

[Bug 765888] [NEW] Invalidate rect/process update causes flicker for Cairo drawn content

2011-04-19 Thread tabbernuk
Public bug reported:

Screenlets (which are Cairo drawn widgets in an undecorated GTK window)
started to flicker in Natty from early alphas and are still flickering
in latest beta. It seems that invalidating GTK window causes the window
to go blank for a moment and then redraw its contents. Anyway the result
is hard flickering in some cases and more gentle flickering in other
cases. The same code works without any flickering in Maverick.

Ubuntu Natty (development branch) 11.04

[Bug 765962] [NEW] Repainting a widget causes Cairo drawn window background content to disappear

2011-04-19 Thread tabbernuk
Public bug reported:

Screenlets (which are Cairo drawn widgets in an undecorated GTK window)
include some cases where there is GTK widget on Cairo-drawn background.
One example is Lipik sticky notes screenlet for which the background is
an SVG image and foreground is coloured GTK Textview widget. At start
the widget is painted on SVG background all right, but writing something
into the Textview makes the GTK window on background go blank and lose
the Cairo drawn decorations. It also seems that this happens only when
the line written into Textview is longer than the lines already
contained in it (if the right margin needs to be extended, the window on
the background is blanked).

The behaviour started in Natty from early alphas and is still there in
latest beta. The same code works without any problems in Maverick.
