2011-04-23 Thread Roshan
Same problem,

- Looks like it is loading, but returns me to login screen
- If I enter wrong password intentionally it shows Authentication failure

And in command mode shows :

* Speech dispatches configured for user sessions
* Starting the Winbind daemon Winbind
* Starting common Unix Printing System : cupsd
* PulseAudio configured for peer user sessions
* Enabling additional executable binary formats binfmt support
* Checking battery state...

after this I am totally hanged nothing goes further, please help me..

Thanks in advance,
Roshan

[Bug 769366] [NEW] Monitor prefs: poor resolution options when EDID fails

2011-04-23 Thread Dylan Justice
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

If EDID/DDC fails, the resolution options are too restrictive; an
exhaustive list of resolutions should be available.

Use case: I run my third monitor through a DisplayPort--DVI adapter, so
no EDID information is returned. I cannot find any way to set the
correct resolution short of generating an xorg.conf.

[Bug 726692] Re: Screen backlight adjustment stopped working on MacBook Pro 5, 4 and other hardware

2011-04-23 Thread Mario Vukelic
Sorry, my previous comment #10 was incorrect. What worked again after
the reinstall was just the notification bubble, but it did not actually
change the brightness. I had to add the EnableBrightnessControl option
again, to the new xorg.conf that was created during installation. After
an X restart I now have the bubble and it actually works:

Section Device
Identifier Default Device
Option NoLogoTrue
Option RegistryDwords EnableBrightnessControl=1
EndSection

[Bug 85291] Re: filesystems are never fsck'ed if they live on removable USB disks

2011-04-23 Thread Mario Vukelic
In Natty:
When you log in at the console with removable disks attached which require an
fsck (due to being mounted too often without one) , bash tells you that they
will be checked on the next reboot, which is again plain untrue and gives you a
false sense of security.

[Bug 769403] [NEW] Nautilus crashes when using the breadcrumb bar left/right buttons under specific condition

2011-04-23 Thread Copernicus
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

This bug is repeatable and occurs every time so it should be easy to
track down.

1. Start Nautilus
2. Go into some folder structure with long folder names so Nautilus starts
showing the left/right buttons in the breadcrumb bar.
3. When it does, click the breadcrumb left button until Nautilus has scrolled
the breadcrumb bar to the maximum left.
4. Click the button next to the breadcrumb left button so the root folder
becomes displayed.
5. Click the breadcrumb bar right button once. Nautilus crashes.

I have tried to describe it as clear as possible above, but here is a
video that shows it just in case my description is not very clear. :)

[Bug 42052] Re: Screen not locked on resume from hibernate/suspend

2011-04-23 Thread Paul Taylor
I'm not sure if it's related, but I just then experienced the same thing. I was
able to use the computer for about 30 seconds after being away from the
computer for 20 minutes.
The computer wasn't in sleep mode, but the screensaver had kicked in. When I
moved the mouse I was able to do things, and 30 seconds later it took me to the
resume screen requiring a password.
I'm using ubuntu 11.04 64bit.

[Bug 762392] Re: Nautilus Crashes On Opening Directory With Large Number Of Files

2011-04-23 Thread kurt belgrave
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will
automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 762392

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you
may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe
repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect
permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability
to Change Non-Private data as it will be adding information to your
bug report. Thanks in advance!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 769502] [NEW] Trackpad on Dell Latitude E5500 becomes insufferably slow

2011-04-23 Thread Josh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

The last version of the Kernel where this problem DIDN'T happen was
2.6.32-35. With every kernel since, as the number of open apps (and,
I'm assuming, memory usage) increases there are jags where the trackpad
or mouse become almost non-moving. The speed of the cursor motion drops
to almost zero and the delay is astonishingly long. Eventually, if you
stop moving and wait, the mouse will catch up to your current position,
but any usage thereafter causes the same problem. Stopping and
restarting doesn't help. When I revert to the kernel mentioned above it
works fine, but every kernel since has had the problem. The problem
seems much worse when the PC is attached to its docking station, but
even when using the PC on its own I can see the small blips that will, I
know, mean the mouse/trackpad will be unusable the next time I hook it
up to the docking station.

[Bug 769290] [NEW] Totem crashes on switching to fullscreen

2011-04-23 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When I start a video in Totem it plays fine in windowed mode. If I try
to switch to fullscreen, Totem crashes instantly. In a console window, I
can see the following message:

The program 'totem' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 109 error_code 11 request_code 132 minor_code 19)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

[Bug 763433] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGABRT in __kernel_vsyscall()

2011-04-23 Thread kurt belgrave
Thank you taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.
However, processing the crash report to get detailed information for the
developers failed as the retracer did not generate a useful symbolic stack
trace.
Please try to obtain a backtrace manually following the instructions at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and upload the backtrace (as an
attachment) to the bug report. This will greatly help us in tracking down your
problem.

[Bug 769521] [NEW] indicator-weather deleted from Startup Applications on next login

2011-04-23 Thread Kevin Knerr
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

Several times now I've added the Weather Indicator to Startup
Applications. As long as I'm in my current session, it's listed there.
However, when I next log in, the indicator isn't running. Checking
Startup Applications shows it isn't listed. The only other app I've
added manually, gkrellm, is behaving as expected.

I've found no obvious entires in the system logs to indicate why the
indicator is failing to launch at login.

in your signal handler to prevent the default handler from running. Look at the
source code for the default handler in gtktreeview.c to get an idea what your
handler should do. (gtktreeview.c is in the GTK source code.) If you're using
GTK from a language other than C, there may be a more natural way to override
default handlers, e.g. via derivation.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make

not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

[Bug 439448] Re: Visual corruption affecting several panel applets

2011-04-23 Thread peterzay
Before the networking changes described in #379, visual corruption of
the upper right panel applets occurred very intermittently. On this
10.04 LTS platform, I could go for many weeks, possibly months, of daily
boots before hitting the bug. Now, after the networking changes, EACH
AND EVERY BOOT corrupts those applets.

This is systematic and reproducible. That cannot be coincidence.

What is your basis for claiming: Networking updates won't affect panel
applet display?

For example, the router is now set to use DST (clock applet impact?),
before it was not. DNS1 and DNS2 have now been removed from the eth0
profile (notification area applet impact?) and moved to the router.

[Bug 439448] Re: Visual corruption affecting several panel applets

2011-04-23 Thread pablomme
He means that the bug is a known painting issue with gnome-panel, and
that no networking experts should be looking into this because it is
definitely unrelated to networking.

Even the connections you suggest, which are valid hypotheses, are
obviously only circumstantially related to networking. Most likely,
network-manager is taking either longer or shorter to establish a
connection than before, causing nm-applet to update at different times
during session start-up, in turn triggering the race condition that
causes the corruption more often. It would be equally likely that an
update you installed around the same time that you switched routers made
the problem worse.

[Bug 439448] Re: Visual corruption affecting several panel applets

2011-04-23 Thread peterzay
I use update manager once a week and did so this week prior to the
networking changes. I did notice very minor panel applet corruption
after the reboot. I fixed that by removing and adding back the applets
manually and rebooted and solved the problem.

The networking changes resulted in an intermittent display bug occurring
reproducibly and permanently.

That is a huge change in bug behaviour, but does not mean that this bug
is a network bug. It just provides a clue to facilitate bug resolution.

[Bug 769382] [NEW] check for graphic errors

2011-04-23 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I usually get a log of little graphic errors while using Ubuntu. For
example, if I shutdown my computer in Plymouth. Sometimes I miss the
windows borders of Banshee, sometimes I can see the leftover of an old
window. One time I could see in the update-manager that the right-bottom
corner was a bit overlaping the close button. But there's no easy way to
report these bugs. Some bugs are so rare that you can't reproduce them.
Somehow in GTK, window manager, Xorg and plymouth there should be
routines, which check, if the rendering is as expected. If not they
should collect helpful information to report a bug. Or there should be a
way to click on a failed rendering, take a screenshot and collect useful
information about the rendering process.

[Bug 743525] Re: rhythmbox crashes on start-up

2011-04-23 Thread Paul White
I'm marking this as incomplete as there has been no follow-ups. It's
probably a duplicate of #529714 and I no longer have a Lucid
installation to check if the bug still exists.

[Bug 769642] [NEW] Power Management doesn't recognize Joystick-Input

2011-04-23 Thread Achim
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

This evening i played supertuxkart. A little bit longer (as always ;).
Then my monitor got black und went into stand-by mode after the given
time in power management. While playing! Right: Neither i moved the
mouse nor the keyboard. The menu in supertuxkart get's its input from
the joystick too. Power Management imho should respect that and not
jumping into a game as long as input is present - even from a joystick.

[Bug 761836] Re: Gtk-WARNING **: Attempting to store changes into `/root/.local/share/recently-used.xbel', gut failed

2011-04-23 Thread Adam Parker
Not that this is likely the appropriate way to fix this, but I had this
issue with everything I used gedit on, so I went and just made the file
and the error messages went away. It appears to be filling the file with
stuff, but I'm not a Linux guru so there might be a reason my hand
should be smacked with a ruler for getting rid of the error in this
manner. :)

I've had to use Konsole to continue using Alt keys, which I use heavily
in irssi. Upgrading to Natty is not really a consideration at this time.
Will there be a fix for this pushed to Maverick? If not, does someone
have a PPA with the fixed package?

[Bug 376073] Re: Pdf search doesn't find strings running over lines

2011-04-23 Thread markling
This fix should be high priority.

It can be hard to prove a negative.
The same goes for documents.
I.e. Professional people who use .pdf readers sometimes have a need to prove
something does not exist in a document.
They can do this by searching for the thing they need to disprove.

But if the search does not work properly because it can't spot strings
that fall over lines, and they don't know that this fault exists, they
will end up making decisions based on faulty information given them by
the software.

Ah, I don't know what this upstream lark is. I would presume it means
that its someone else's problem. All I know as a user, is when you
report a bug, you are taken to Launchpad. So you file your bug reports
in Launchpad.

I've just clicked your link and it says I need to log into yet another
bug reporting website called Bugzilla. Fair enough. I shall have a look
at this Bugzilla thing when I've got the time.
