[Bug 771661] [NEW] Allow .xsession-errors to be a symlink
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm Bug 60448 discusses the problem about ~/.xsession-errors growing unbearably large when there are buggy programs spamming it. [Bug 771824] [NEW] pointer speed/acceleration should be device specific, not generic
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center Different types of pointing devices behave differently, and so settings like acceleration and movement speed should be set by device rather than generically tied to pointer. For example, I'm using a ThinkPad x201. This has the IBM trackpoint (the red joystick nub in the keyboard), a touchpad and I am using a bluetooth Apple Magic Mouse. When I'm not using the bluetooth mouse, I typically use a combination of the pointer and the touchpad (for example, when working on a plane, or in a restaurant). These devices typically need a faster acceleration set to make pointer movements more efficient. So I set the acceleration higher to account for the much smaller surface area of the touchpad and the limited movement of the trackpoint. BUT, as soon as I connect my Magic Mouse, it takes on the same acceleration settings as I had set for the other devices, and becomes all but unusable because it's far faster by default when moving the pointer. So, the means that I, the user, must set the mouse properties manually every time I use one or the other. So when I don't have my bluetooth mouse connected, I have to set the acceleration up to compensate for the slow trackpoint/touchpad devices. when I do connect the mouse, I have to manually slow down the acceleration to make the mouse behave properly. Expected results: I should be able to set a profile for each pointing device with settings set accordingly. So I can set one set of parameters for the built-in devices and one set for my bluetooth mouse, and perhaps a third profile for a different USB mouse. Or at the very least, generic parameters set for decice TYPE. So built- in devices get one profile and config while external devices get another. [Bug 770382] Re: sound too loud at login screen
That is, you believe that drawing everyone's attention to your actions is not a loss of privacy? In theory, it is possible to turn speakers off. In practice, Nobody never remembers to do it. In addition, in some circumstances (like local trains) turning a laptop on may be just dangerous: this misfeature will draw attention of everyone around, regardless of who they are, and if there are people of some sort... well... you may have your face punched and the laptop lost, along with all data on it. Please forgive my bluntness, such simple things about real life are usually assumed to be self-understood. [Bug 770663] Re: New keyring password keeps being reset
well, i'll try to be more specific. basically the procedure is the following: 1. changing the password for the login keyring 2. logout/login 3. entering the new password in the password prompt - wireless gets connected (as a sign that the password was correct) 4. however, similar to bug #745780 (and maybe due to the same cause), another prompt comes up saying that the password was wrong (while it must have been right because wifi connected). so i cancel the other prompt. 5a. after the next logout/login, no password prompt comes up. this is because the password has been reset to be the same as the session password. (i checked that several times because locking and unlocking the keyring in the password manager only works with the session password and not with the new one i entered). 5b. the password also gets reset if i don't logout/login again (i.e. stay in the same session after step 4), which i confirmed by just locking and trying to unlock the login keyring once more in the password manager, which only worked with the session password. so, bottom line, my thinking is that the password being reset has something to do with the other password prompt coming up as described in step 4. i don't know if it's the same cause as bug #745780 (i have no idea of the internal workings of the keyring manager) so i filed a new bug instead of just adding it to the description of that bug. any other things i should add? i couldn't find anything in .xsession- errors related to gnome-keyring (other than some window size issues). any other place i should look? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-keyring in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/770663 Title: New keyring password keeps being reset -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 771884] [NEW] Rhythmbox Audio conversion from CD can only be played correctly on Rythmbox
Public bug reported: I've converted some audio from a CD I own to OGG format. Then I've transfered this audio files to a player (Palm TX with pTunes V5). The thing is that these audio files can only be correctly played on Rhythmbox. In any other player like WM, WM Classic, pTunes, sometimes in Totem; the audio got cut in some parts, got passed to the next song (like it is empty) or even get an error message (Invalid format in WM). I' certain it is the way that Rhythmbox converts CD tracks to OGG, I don't have this problem when I convert the same audio with Asunder for example. Discarded the possibility of a corrupted SD card cos reading it form the SD Rhythmbox is able to play it but other players just don't (or plays some cut parts). I'm not sure if I can (due to copyright) upload two samples of the same track converted by different software. Please let me know about this issue.
