[Bug 410288] Re: Nautilus does not handle FTP timeouts well

2011-05-05 Thread Pierre Quillery
Indeed, the bug is still present in Natty.

To solve the problem, I wrote a little shell script that will do a `ls`
on each FTP mounted with gvfs every 15 seconds, and that seems to do the
trick. I attached it to my message, hopefully it will help someone else.
Just launch the script and forget it ;).

[Bug 588353] Re: gdmsetup does not let me unlock

2011-05-05 Thread jaromil
Further testing shows this bug occurs if gdmsetup is called from another
windowmanager (i'm using awesome here, still freedesktop compliant): the
privilege escalation program doesn't gets called to unlock the widget.

once unlocked gdm lets one change the default system-wide (for all
users), but not for single users, so it is still a question how to do
that, since gdm doesn't asks anymore to change the default.

if you know how, thanks in advance for your hints!

2011-05-05 Thread Paddy Launch
A quick workaround that I use in Lucid when I want to leave my laptop
running overnight but want the screen off immediately:

1. Click power management applet and select Preferences
2. Select Put display to sleep when inactive for: 1 minute
3. Wait 1 minute.
4. Activate the screen again as normal, the power management applet is still up
- reset the Put display to sleep when inactive value to whatever it is
normally and click Close.

[Bug 777644] [NEW] keyboard shortcuts for email and browser pass spurious arguments to the applications

2011-05-05 Thread Stefano Angeleri
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

It seems since natty (maverick doesn't suffer this issue) when using the
keyboard shortcuts functionality of gnome to open them the applications
are called but with spurious arguments. In my case for firefox it's sent
a big number with no meaning (always the same too), for evolution it's
sent an %U. This thing makes both misbehave: firefox opens a weird page
with this number (http://number/) and evolution never opens the windows
if it's not already open. As a temporary solution I've worked around
this by putting a wrapper script which removes these arguments:

#/bin/sh
#for args
#do
#echo $args /tmp/out
#done

if [ $1 = %U ]; then
/usr/bin/evolution2
else
/usr/bin/evolution2 $@
fi

and

#!/bin/sh

set -e

if [ $1 = 3788462439 ]; then
firefox
exit
fi

# Firefox launcher containing a Profile migration helper for

on top of the firefox init script already there.
Obviously this isn't a correct solution. So why the keyboard shortcut launcher
is sending arguments at all? it should allow to configure them or not set them
at all. This is a clean natty install with just firefox config folder copied
from the previous install and evolution restored by using the backup
functionality but i don't think this matters as the problem is these arguments
which have no meaning to be there and shouldn't be there at all (so not firefox
373 or evolution %U but just firefox and evolution!)

[Bug 742516] Re: gimp-2.6 crashed with SIGSEGV in g_closure_invoke()

2011-05-05 Thread Viktor Ferenczi
It is well possible that comment #19 above points out the real cause of
this problem, thanks to Frido Otten. GIMP seems to be unable to create
its configuration folder (~/.gimp-2.6) or the code looking for a
possibly existing configuration folder is crashing due to a coincidence
with another folder introduced in Ubuntu 11.04.

It would also be useful to figure out what is changed by just switch to
Raleigh and back, which worked for Onewing. A directory or another
object is created somewhere, possibly, which helps GIMP to avoid
executing the problematic case.

[Bug 777661] [NEW] gnome-volume-control doesn't /always/ remember sound theme between sessions

2011-05-05 Thread Jo-Erlend Schinstad
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

In 11.04, if you select a sound theme in gnome-volume-control, it isn't
always remembered between sessions. It is a very strange bug. Sometimes,
it is remembered, other times it isn't and I don't know why. I use
Unity. Steps to reproduce:

1) Click the audio icon indicator.
2) Select preferences.
3) In the first tab, select a sound theme different from the currently selected
one.
4) close the dialog and repeat steps 1-3.
5) Observe that your choice is remembered.
6) log out and back in.
7) repeat steps 1-3: your choice of theme should now be forgotten.
9) if it is remembered, repeat steps 1-8 a few times and observe that the
setting is sometimes forgotten.

[Bug 777661] Re: gnome-volume-control doesn't /always/ remember sound theme between sessions

2011-05-05 Thread Jo-Erlend Schinstad
I think I've found the problem. It seems that the settings aren't
flushed to disk immediately, so if you log out quickly after changing a
setting in gnome-volume-control, then it is forgotten. If you wait a
couple of minutes after selecting sound theme before you log out, then
it is remembered. But this is inconsistent with the rest of the dialog,
because the volume selection in the same tab is remembered regardless.
Steps to reproduce:

1) select a new sound theme in the preferences dialog.
2) log out immediately afterwards and log back in.
3) observe that the new theme is not remembered.
4) in the same tab in the dialog, set a new sound level
5) log out immediately and back in.
6) observe that the volume _is_ stored.
7) perform steps 1-6 again, but this time wait two minutes before logging out.
8) observe that everything works as expected.

[Bug 767095] Re: 1 pixel icons in notification-area-applet for qt softwares

2011-05-05 Thread Dmitri
Problem seems to be connected with compiz...
I have another workaround, for those with whom reading notification area to
panel does not work.
Each time I open Skype I change Compiz to Metacity Window Manager - MWM -
install compiz fusion icon from Software Center .
While Metacity is enabled REMOVE notification area from panel and add again and
same with vlc.
Now you should see icons of skype and vlc (this was for when you started skype
or vlc while compiz was selected a window manager)

other way around is to switch to MWM first then start Skype or VLC and
go back to compiz

I know it is annoying, but this one works for me
Problem is that on one machine ( Radeon HD 5650) reading notification applet
workd, on another (Radeon HD 4350) it does not...

So I am sticking with this workaround for now, I hope it will help
someone and I hope this bug will be fixed ASAP

event. Tap with 3 fingers for right-click event.

  Observed behaviour:
  A 2-finger tap generates a right-click event and a 3-finger tap generates
 a middle-click event.

Looking at the changelog for 1.1.2-1ubuntu1 I see this:
  105_correct_multifinger_click.patch: Swap the right/middle clicks
 generated by multi-finger tapping.
This patch is then reverted in 1.1.2-1ubuntu2:
105_correct_multifinger_click.patch: Drop patch as it breaks the expected
behavior for multitouch clicking (LP: #320585).

However, I still experience the behaviour introduced in -1ubuntu1.
Hopefully I can help get the expected behaviour back in time for
  karmic's release.

If I start with AC adapter plugged in, however, everything seems to be

Reproducible: likely so (will keep observing, but won't restart system

Thanks.

For some reason right now it all works just fine, both Vlc and Skype
icons. I installed Apache2 package, mySql both server and client and
Mysql administrator and Query Browse, and php5 and php5-xdebug. I also
installed Kompozer and updated Netbeans and that is pretty much it.
After restarting the computer the panel seems to work fine icons showing
allright. I'll update with more info when I encounter more odd behavior.

[Bug 500417] Re: nautilus doesn't honor gnome theme

2011-05-05 Thread Rolo
Does you X41 have Optimus switchable graphics? Most likely the machine
will use the integrated graphics rather than discrete when on battery
power. You can test that this is what's causing it by switching to
constantly use discrete or integreated in the BIOS (watch out for the
BIOS option which automatically sets it back to optimus as well)

Not sure if that's of use.

[Bug 777777] [NEW] Mark read / unread only works once in message window

2011-05-05 Thread Callum Macdonald
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Open a read message in its own window, CTRL-SHIFT-K to mark as unread,
now CTRL-K does not work.

Open an unread message in its own window, CTRL-K to mark as read, now
CTRL-SHIFT-K does not work.

This can also be seen in the menus. Open an unread message and Message
Mark As Read is available, Unread is greyed out. Click Read, now open
the menu again, Read is still the only option available. It seems like
when message status is changed, the message window doesn't update to
notice the new state.

Note that the message is marked as read / unread, just that the menu
does not change in the Evolution window. This applies when opening
messages in separate windows, not while viewing messages in the preview
pane.

[Bug 775345] Re: USB headset not selectable in Output tab of Sound Preferences

2011-05-05 Thread David Sowerby
I couldn't afford to wait for a fix, so I re-installed 10.10. I didn't
realise just how much I had configured over the years of Ubuntu
upgrades; it took up a lot of time getting back to where I was - a
shame this one caused me to revert and spoil the good record.

Although I could install 11.04 on my laptop to try ..

I had a similar problem with empathy after upgrading to 11.04, mine was a

Empathy could not connect to Gtalk at all using the supplied defaults for

[Bug 432814] Re: Touchpad: Action for middle and right click is reversed since jaunty

2011-05-05 Thread Yuri Khan
There must have been a misunderstanding here. I’m not going to support
my patches on GNOME 3. In fact, they are not needed there, as there is
the hook framework.

When time allows, I will update my PPA for Natty, but only because Natty
was released with GNOME 2. (And I understand them — GNOME 3 is horrible
at the moment.)

[Bug 777817] [NEW] Panels and unity don't open automatically at startup

2011-05-05 Thread Rodicurus
Public bug reported:

I just installed Ubuntu 11.04. It reset my computer and when I logged in there
were no panels. I cannot access anything.
I have used a work-around up to now by typing unity into terminal, and then by
making a desktop launcher to start unity, and then by putting it in start-up
applications. It is related to nvidia cards. I would like to just press the
start button and have natty come up. This is a bug I can't fix, can u?

[Bug 722875] Re: [natty] evolution does not work with proxy

2011-05-05 Thread Gabriele Del Prete
I can testify I'm experiencing the same problem. If I set Gnome Proxy to Use
for all protocols then Evolution stays stuck and is unable to download or send
email from IMAP. If I set Gnome Proxy not to use the same proxy for all
protocols, but copy the setting for each protocol (HTTP, HTTPS, FTP), then
Evolution suddenly reacts and:
- ask me to accept the certificate (if the IMAP connection is set to use TLS or
SSL)
- download folders and mails successfully.

[Bug 708508] Re: Debug Setting Broken in C++

2011-05-05 Thread Harald Sitter
Incidentally the original issue of Amarok not starting due to fatal assert
should not be a problem in natty final as asserts are not fatal in Ubuntu
releases I understand.
However, the underlying bug prevents debug output when using gstreamer in a C++
application. This for example renders us unable to produce gstreamer debug
output with Phonon, which is a major PITA for upstream.
